The Brewery Tap PH in Vale of White Horse

I find it hard to believe that the young lady behaved in the manner that she did. I have been using public houses for over forty-five years and I have never encountered such rudeness and such a lack of respect for a paying customer. 'This table's booked' was her opening line. The words were not spoken softly, they were spat out. I had been at the table for some fifteen minutes. There was no sign to say that the table was reserved. 'Is there another table that is free?' was my meek response. I shall paraphrase her reply...'if you want a seat you'd better go outside' was her forceful response. Rather than start an argument and cause a disturbance to others, I decided to leave.

Perhaps a victim of it's success since I had sky high expectations given the reviews. The ambiance and feel of the place is amazing. The staff were perfectly polite and helpful. The food was just ok. The children's burgers were dry, rubbery and tasteless. The adult one was again dry and not good tasting. It was notably overcooked. The crispy bun really didn't work. The sauce was nice. I had wings which were nice enough but they were all mini drumsticks. I'm being a stickler but I I much prefer the winglettes for flavour. The fries were nice and the coleslaw a nice addition. Overall, especially for the price, despite some clear effort I felt the fundamentals just weren't there. Overall, the experience was alright and perhaps we picked poorly but I suspect the presentation and nice atmosphere is glossing over the mediocre food for many.

Love this place. Excellent tunes, local craft beer and Belgium beer in the bottle.

One of my favourite pubs in Abingdon. The atmosphere is always bustling and welcoming. The bar and serving staff are so friendly and helpful. Always really nice for a drink. Food-wise, the pub is well known for its pies and (huge) platters - think ribs, fried chicken, brisket, etc. All delicious and quite reasonably priced given the size. When my dad visited he insisted on coming two nights in a row for dinner! (September 2024 update: went out for dinner with friends and we had another great meal. Big shout out to our server Mia for being an absolute delight!!)

Great time at the Brewery Tap on the weekend. Popped by to see some local live music and had a great evening. Atmosphere was lively, music was excellent and Staff were lovely. Had a good few pints of Amstel and a jolly good time. Will be back again for more no doubt in the future!

Lady behind the bar was super friendly, just stopped for a half pint and a bag of Nobbys nuts but were made to feel very welcome

First time at the Brewery Tap in Abingdon. If you like a vast Belgium beer menu, a great Sunday roast and friendly staff this is the place for you. The wine list was also very good too.

8 of us for Sunday lunch, good food weii cooked with a good choice of drinks. Glad we visited.

The Brewery Tap was established by Morland's Brewery in 1993 in some old buildings on the main road, with the brewery just behind it. Sadly the brewery has long gone, taken over and closed down by Greene King, much to the disappointment of townsfolk and drinkers alike but the Tap thankfully survives - and not a Greene King ale in sight at the time of our visit. Instead there was a great selection of beers from mainly smaller breweries. There is an extensive food menu with something for everyone with with all the pub classics plus a good deal more. Homemade pies appear to be a house speciality although none of us went for a pie on this occasion - perhaps we'll come back try them on a colder day! Curiously Fish & Chips is only available on Fridays and Saturdays (perhaps they have a delivery of fresh fish once a week). Again, we'll have to come back on another occasion to try that. There is a courtyard at the back with some further tables. The venue has close links with Abingdon Morris Men and hosts their annual Mayor of Ock Street election ceremony every June.

I booked a room for the night for a works trip. I can't rate it highly enough, the staff were super efficient and friendly, my food was amazing and the room was perfect for what I needed. I highly recommend a visit here and will definitely come back. Thanks to all the staff

You really REALLY need to try this pub. I have never had a bad meal. Huge portions of the best British comfort foods. Pies, Burgers, Meats, baguettes, salads... everything is so tasty and worth every penny. Even the nachos comes out in a huge bowl topped with the best Chilli you've ever eaten and there's always a fantastic choice of specials. A great traditional pub atmosphere, live entertainment on weekends, a nice garden (and sun trap) and the staff always go above and beyond. You will not be disappointed I promise you. Oh and roast dinners to die for!!!

Fabulous selection of really well kept beers and served by knowledgeable staff. Great place with plenty of space with quite a few tables outside. Probably wise to book a table if eating 6pm onwards. The menu has a great selection, not your usual uninspired pub grub and the food is great and plentiful. I had a steak and kidney pudding which you hardly ever see on menus these days. Excellent it was too. Loads of pubs in Abingdon but it’s certainly worth a visit.

Called in yesterday 31/7/24 staying for a few days before going to the IOW had called at a few pubs in the town we love real ale as we yorkshire folk, the pint was perfectly pulled with a proper head Ionia I think she was called was very friendly and chatty but as I used to work front of house I did comment to her how lovely she was with the training of what appeared new staff , we ended up staying for a fair few drinks then ordered the chilli dirty chips which was amazing , we defo will be back if in the area again .

Excellent selection of beer, attentive service, great home cooked food and beautiful interior. A great all-rounder of an independent pub. Really enjoyed my meal.

Tasty food and nice local ales. 2 adults and a not quite teen after a long day plodding about Bletchley we were super hungry on arrival and super stuffed when we left. Shout out for Mama’s fried chicken - crumb coating was delicious and the gravy matched perfectly. The boy devoured the lot which was impressive as it was a huge portion. I went with the super salad with added salmon and halloumi- a revelation- healthy food choices can be as tasty as anything else! Him at the table had pulled pork which was also packed with flavour. Beer selection was great and well kept. Excellent friendly service.

Good location for visiting Oxford or Milton Park. Lovely large room very nicely furnished with large bed and TV. Clean modern bathroom with walk in shower. Food available in restaurant / bar below. Great menu with fantastic food. Breakfast / hot drinks buffet available to use at anytime situated in corridor between rooms. Only downside really as you can't get a proper breakfast in the morning, though I enjoyed being able to pop out to grab myself a latte or quick tea from the drinks machine in the evening. Overall a great hotel. Will come back again.

The best pub in Abingdon, a must visit. Excellent food. Sunday roasts are a must here, or try one of the pies during the week. Service is incredibly friendly and fast, with a great selection of food and drink, especially local ales all with a cosy pub atmosphere at a reasonable price. It's dog friendly and has a good selection of board games if needed, along with the occasional band and regular pub quiz. A decent sized outside area is great in the summer, and a huge fireplace is perfect for the winter. We've also had family stay in the rooms who've said they enjoyed their stay. Would recommend to anyone as it has something for all.

Excellent pie for lunch, fabulous horseradish, lit fire and great laid back atmosphere.

We pop in every week for a nice pint. Had the Korean Chicken Wings. Blooming lovely. Made even better buy the lovely service from Natasha, she is consistently lovely each week. We will be getting the Chicken Wings Platter next time.

One of our go to pubs for amazing food at decent prices. The atmosphere is always so cozy and amazing, we often have card game nights there. The staff are all super friendly and service is superb, highly recommend for a visit.

Had a great Sunday dinner here. Roast stops serving at 4pm but had a great vegetarian pie and chips. Busy St Patrick’s day with live music but the service was still good.

Whilst visiting family in Abingdon, we always try to fit in a Sunday lunch in February to mark my birthday. The Brewery Tap is a great favourite, with an excellent choice of Roast meats on a Sunday, and childrens' meals too. A wide choice of real Ales, and a good wine list to swing any doubters. Highly recommend the Brewery Tap, if you don't try it you'll never know what you are missing.

Very comfortable stay at the Brewery Tap, after a long drive from Norwich it was great to be warmly received and shown to a comfortable room. Sadly I didn’t get photos of my colleagues room as it was, just like mine quite interesting in regards to its architecture. After a few moments to trying to figure out why it was quickly apparent the photos on the walls signalled the history of that room as different sections of a brewery. 5 stars for comfort and 5 stars for nerdy decoration ! Good, clean, comfortable. It’s a self catering continental breakfast which was great but the coffee machine didn’t work for me, somebody came by and got it running but then it didn’t work again half way through making my coffee but everything else on offer made up for that. Even with the coffee saga, I'd definitely book here again when I'm back in Abington hopefully earlier next time so we can enjoy some of the great looking food !

We had a lovely meal here. The staff are very welcoming and funny and the pub is well-furnished and welcoming. We all had pies and they were absolutely delicious and came with plenty of sides. Puddings were also tasty!

We visited this pub and B&B for the first time. Apart from there being very little parking available on site, (although easy to find off road parking nearby) everything else about this pub is excellent. They serve a vast menu with very large portions, the staff attentiveness was great and we were made to feel very much at home. They have great real ales and my wife will say lovely wines too.The bar manager (I didn’t take his name) showed us to our room above the pub and was very polite and couldn’t help us enough.On the night we stayed there was live music, but didn’t affect our sleep/ stay. Even down to the housekeeping lady in the morning who was over helpful and very nice. This one has been marked down by me as one to return to. Brewery Tap you have a lovely place and amazingly friendly staff - look after them and you will reap the rewards. Thank you to you all 10/10

We read reviews and decided to book a roast on our short break from Kent. So glad we did. The roast dinner was superb. So much meat and plenty of different vegetables. The member of staff serving us was brilliant. Very attentive and what was nice was when you had finished your dinner he gave you plenty of time before asking about desserts so it gave us more time to make room for more. Have booked to go back before we go home to Kent.

The staff (all young) were very helpful on our visit with a dear friend who has mobility issues/ special needs. A cone was placed in the car park to enable her to reach the pub entrance with relative ease and the team took our order at the table. Ramped access to the disabled toilet was good. These little things made the whole experience enjoyable. Thank you!

The best pie ever! I had the lamb and mint pie which had huge chunks of lamb inside a beautiful pastry case. Excellent choice of sides to have with it (I had chunky chips and veg - again all beautifully cooked) and a jug of gravy on the side. The team at the Brewery Tap were attentive, welcoming and friendly.

Booked for 9people for my daughter birthday had to prebook roasts . Dinner was for 3pm has drinks dinner arrived at 3.45pm not all together either . No condiments on table had to ask and meals were not given all together. The plates were so hot was told not to touch them . Dinner Luke warm . Roast potatoes were so overcooked could not cut them as there was no potato inside . Dinner was as reheated. Staff must have known as they gave us a bowl of extra potatoes which were no different . The service was non existent and even had to pay £3 extra for Yorkshire pudding which was another thing that was reheated . I did write a review to Brewery Tap and literally invalidated my review and was patronising telling me basically me that I didn’t know how roast potatoes should be cooked . Having a pub myself and cooking food I do know how meals and service should be . Went in 2021 with friends and was not good now for my daughter birthday to see if changed as reviews were good . Was not going to put this on trip advisor as I don’t do this but reply from team from Brewery Tap was unapologetic, could not care attitude. Will not recommend or return even for a drink

We stumbled on the Brewery Tap last year while driving from the Lake District down to Winchester to visit friends. It was good then and last month while driving from Yorkshire we decided to pay a repeat visit for the Sunday roast. It was magic. I had the duck and my wife the lamb. Cooked to perfection. The staff was very helpful and although reservations were recommended they made a spot available for the two of us. Great up market pub atmosphere without being over the top.

after discovering i had booked for the wrong evening barman sorted out the drama and found us a vacant table - fantastic experience great selection of beers - great atmosphere - friendly chatty but not intrusive staff food absolutely first class. we went for a complete mix of starters which was brilliant. haloumi fries, whitebait , calamari, ribs and more sticky toffee pudding a must !

Sunday roasts are especially good need to book. Have net eaten here several times over the years and it never disappoints. Portions are decent - they aren’t trying to make up for anything with a giant portion, but you’ll definitely be full up. Good variance...

Excellent vibes! Everyone so welcoming and lovely and warm. The food is IMMENSE. I loved my brisket sandwich and my partner loved their fried chicken sandwich. Great that you can choose which side they come with . Would come again for sure!

Walked up here from my hotel, looking forward to some craft beers. Although the selection of draft was quite extensive, there wasn't much that you couldn't get anywhere else. Such a shame as the pub itself was nice and cosy.
