I come here everytime I come to Oxford from Australia 🇦🇺 and it's never disappointing

We’ve been coming here for a while now both with the family and as a couple. We have never been disappointed! The food is absolutely delicious and staff are always so warm and welcoming.

6 ladies out for a meal, I've never been there before but will definitely be returning. The staff were welcoming and attentive, and the food was wonderful, we usually have a moan or too if someone's food is not so good but everyone was happy and enjoyed every mouthful.

My first visit, very friendly staff. Becky was exceptionally warm and welcoming, a true gem and a credit to the Spread Eagle Abingdon.

First time here as we were getting bored of the usual Green King rubbish. Very pleasantly surprised at their lovely garden with booths and shelters. Food was also 10/10. Definitely give this place a try.

Had a meal Saturday evening with friends. We had a pod food was amazing staff were lovely friendly. It was nice as there was a party there with music going outside brilliant atmosphere

Really enjoyed our visit to The Spread Eagle. We just happened to come across it by chance. Had a meal in one of the booths outside which were fab and I have to say the food and service was top class. Really attentive team there. Highly recommended.

They serve full and half portions to adults great for lunch and great idea in the times we are in !!

Three of us ate here last night. We were seated inside but there is outside seating and several pods. My wife does not usually have a starter but the choice was so tempting she decided to join us. We had three different starters and three different mains. All were excellent. I had two of the exotic meats on a hot slate. Very different, and tasty. To finish off we had puds from the specials board. Again very good. We could have chosen from the extensive menu but were swayed by the chalk. Definitely a place to visit again.

Came for dinner with some friends, picked randomly off thr map as its half way. Food was superb , service was fabulous and atmosphere was locely. Great olace.

Really excellent food, lovely well-kept beer, wonderful service and a great atmosphere. I’m sure it helped that we were there on a gorgeous sunny evening, but this place was a 10/10 midweek night out from our point of view! We both chose “hot rock” options for our mains. That whole experience was fun, and worked particularly well out in the fresh air (we sat in one of the garden “pods”, which were fab). Meat, sides and sauces were delicious, and the chips were incredible - crispy and fluffy and somehow stayed hot for ages! Highly recommend this pub - we will be back to try some other menu items, and particularly keen to leave room for an ice cream sundae next time.

Came here 12/6/24 for an early Father's Day get-together. The service and atmosphere were great. The food did not take long to come & was hot, delicious & reasonably priced. They have a tremendous choice on their menu, including large or small portions. Love the music they had playing which contributed to the relaxed atmosphere. They have a fantastic outside area which plenty of seating in wooden cubbies. Definitely recommend!!

Nice and polite people, I stopped there couple of times after work for a pint, probably I wasn't looking the best. Nice back area with individual places for little groups. I definitely will have more pints in this pub 🍻.

My wife and I shared the 4 meat 'platter' 3 if which she enjoyed. She found the zebra tough and didn't like it! Otherwise, all good. Service is very good with pleasant staff. Good old fashioned British pub! Reasonable pricing in this day and age.

Food was basic. Was expecting better. Cold indoors so had to keep top on.

Absolutely love this pub restaurant. Been a few times now. Lots of options on the menu and the safari grill is a real experience. Recently visiting with the extended family and all were very impressed with the food and service.

Service was good. Food was a little small portion for the price. We were placed in an area where it was really cold, we had to wear our coats inside. Really enjoyed the music and the desserts were fantastic. The outdoor area was really pretty too.

Came to the Spread Eagle Friday evening and what can I say the service was amazing!! The staff were very friendly and provided the best service I have had in a long time. Nothing was an issue and they were very attentive! The pub is literally a 10 minute walk and feel will be me and partners new local for food. We got the steaks that you cook yourself and they were very good quality. I can’t praise this pub enough. Will be returning.

Arrivedn Wed lunchtime on the off chance. Staff acknowledged us as soon as we arrived at the bar. Seated very quickly. We both had the grown up 2 course menu (first time), 4 Mains and 4 desserts to choose from. For £10 the portions were just right. Left feeling full and have all ready recmended it to others. Looking forward to seeing next month's menu choice.

Just had chips and peppercorn sauce here, and oh my goodness! How moreish? And I've got to say, these are the best chips in the world, bar none, even if you do have to wait a bit before starting to eat them because they are served piping hot. Crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked potato on the inside. Aside from that, fantastic service from the lovely Vickie and Pat, who truly make this place like visiting friends.

Considering we've lived a 5 minute walk from the pub for the last 5 years this was our first visit and we wished we'd come sooner. Quick service and really tasty pub grub. Big portions. Starters were lovely and mains were too. Chips were really crispy!! We'll be coming back.

We went on Sunday for a meal eight of us. And the food was excellent and service excellent everyone in our group enjoyed their meals first pub in a long time to have good food good service excellent. I think this pub as gone undetected for his excellent food service and hospitality. Loved it will be recommended to all my family friends. The staff and proprietor’s excellent. They know how to run a pub excellent experience. Xx

Burnt black jacket potato and the othernot cooked properly and are chips where to over done not worth the money at all.not going back

I attended last week for my Uncle Henry's wake. He loved this pub and used to spend his time there with friends. I can see why he loved it so much. The staff were lovely and so considerate. We will return when we next visit. Highly recommended *****

We came here for the first time, with our daughter for lovely meal on Saturday night. The girls had a "rock" steak with baked vegetables and I had a chicken breast with bacon and cheese, it was all beautiful. The service from the landlord and the two ladies was great too, thank you very much! The guest beer "Abingdon Bridge" was also in impeccable condition, so it would be rude not to have a second one, wouldn't it! All in all a very enjoyable evening, thank you very much Nick, Tina and the Team! We'll be back!

We have been going to this pub for years as my elderly and unadventurous parents liked it. Sadly the quality of food has gone downhill, and a birthday meal recently was very disappointing. My salmon was just a dry tail and tasted freezer burnt. The sauce was non descript. The roasted vegetables were undercooked, and only the potatoes were enjoyable. The other meals were variable and the pork was better. We will take our custom elsewhere in future.

Great food and the staff were amazing! We opted for an outside pod with our children and they popped out to furnish us with hot water bottles and blankets to keep the chill out! The food was all delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening!

Love the character of this pub and staff friendly. Not great if your chosen beverage is wine, unless you are a fan of the Australian grape. Lots of lovely sounding menu choices. Had the Ocean Platter which I felt was a bit bland, wish I had chosen the chilli burger. Typical really!

My Mum had a number of food allergies and they were extremely accommodating. We ate inside, however there were some lovely pods outside and some wooden 2 person booths.

Food could be better. I heard great things and did not feel my experience was to the standard of other reviews

Unbelievable atmosphere and incredible service, the food is out of this world, must recommend the samosa’s and tikka masala, if you fancy something spicy then go for the lamb shank! Excellent beer choices and the pub quiz on a Thursday is second to none! When the pub quiz is done and the food is eaten, go try your hand at the dart board!

Went to the spread on Easter Sunday, was a great atmosphere staff were friendly and welcoming and the hot rock experience for 2 was amazing! And the bread was delicious. Great menu would highly recommend and will be returning.

The food was awful. Vegetables were not cooked and Sole was soggy batter. Not impressed will not go bk again.

The upside down pork was excellent. A good selection of ales on tap and friendly efficient staff.

Nice pub with an interesting meno of exotic meats (llama, crocodile, buffalo etc) on a hot rock and sizzling dishes. Local ales served here. Friendly staff. -1 star for not having a children’s menu.

My wife and her friends attended for a social evening my wife is a coeliac and needed a gluten free and dairy free meal a lack of options and the restaurant was cold due to no heating and got nothing like free coffee or even something off the bill Bad customer service

We had a wonderful Christmas dinner here as a family, food was delicious and service was fantastic. Look forward to returning again over the Xmas period.

Great outdoor pods with heating, hot water bottles and blankets, plus of course great service and food.

Great place to go for a drink with friends, but the menu is old and outdated. The menu is huge meaning almost everything is either deep-fried or not cooked fresh, and often comes smothered in commercial sauces and flavourings. Homemade is not a word you see on the menu. You can only get a steak (beef, ostrich, kangaroo) if you have it on a hot stone - how '80's is that! I cannot remember when the menu was last changed. This is a potential gem of a place that would become a real diamond with just a few changes like a couple of homemade specials (one veggie, one meat or fish) each week.

Went with a group for lunch mid-week. A delicious two course meal for £10.00. Everyone was delighted with their meals. Service was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful.

A small village pub who dealt with 50 plus hungry and thirsty football fans had a nice meal with a good range of drinks.

Friday night visit with some friends for a couple of hours; just drinks. Sat inside, good atmosphere; quite full by 6.30pm. 2 pints, 1/2 cider, & medium wine was about £17.50. Service fine. I had Tribute & Morlands Original on tap. Would be nice to see some Loose Canon offerings.

Best ever chips and beer after an autumnal Tuesday evening bike ride. Bit chilly so had to put the heater on in the pod, first time this year. Funky sauce helped to keep warm too

Four of us had a late lunch at The Spread yesterday, 17th September. The meal was outstanding. My husband chose the ribs and the meat was falling off the bone as he picked them up. I had Oriental Salmon which was delicious. Other meals were chicken madras and Mango Surprise, also very good indeed. Starters and deserts were also very tasty. The two waitresses were very friendly and cheerful, which makes a big difference. We are fairly new to this Pub but will certainly be making return visits.

Great food. I had the small platter of ribs, which comes with chips and a small salad. Husband had the Aged cheese burger with bacon. Two meat patties. Both were very good. We sat outside, tho it was getting chilly. There are other seating arrangements under markees which might be warmer. It took a while for someone to take our food order after bringing our drinks, but staff are pleasant and accommodating. Recommended.

Fishfinger Sandwich was a little dry the bread that fish fingers themselves with lovely staff were great shame the bread seemed a little on the stale side

It had been a while since I had been in to Spread Eagle and they have redone the "garden" out the back to have quite a lot of space. Beer range is less than I remembered but still has a nice pub atmosphere.

I was here during the week with family and needed a cab long distance - the people here were amazing and organized everything and got a good price with a great driver and he arrived promptly. Meanwhile the food and drinks were great and the genuine local and friendly atmosphere was great. Top place with real nice people. Thank you.

Absolutely fantastic. Didnt have a booking so thought mwe might not get in. However no worries on that front. Excellent host who showed us to a table. The menu is extensive. Had tje turkey escalopes and they were excellent, others in our group had the steak and ale pie, Chinese pork and another dish I can't remember. Bottle of fizz too. Specials on the board to add to the menu. Worth every penny and will be returning.

Always have a great meal when ever we go, have used this great pub for years. More recently have been popping in for lunch on a Saturday! Fantastic value and quality baguettes much prefer this than sitting in a chain cafe in town 'Spread' out a bit more and head over to the Spread Eagle for great value lunches you won't be disappointed

We visited today for Sunday lunch. There was 9 of us and a mix of adults and children. The atmosphere was very relaxed and we didn’t feel at all rushed. The service was good and there was a button on the table to press if you needed someone’s attention. The menu was huge, so much choice. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and the portions were generous. We felt it was reasonably priced for what we had and wouldn’t hesitate to return.

This was our first time to eat here. The service was friendly, helpful, and prompt. The food was excellent! The chips were similar to Belgian style, crispy on the outside, chunky, and soft in the middle. All of the dishes were yummy! It was also a good overall value!

Back in the 60's and 70's my parents ran this pub, and I haven't been back since they left in 1980. So this was as much about curiosity as having a family meal. I was really pleasantly surprised at the variety of beer available, including Morlands Bitter, which I had for old times sake. The menu was pretty extensive, which can mean poorer quality meals, but definitely not in this case. One of our group had the hot rock steak option, and enjoyed the novelty of cooking their own dinner at the table. The staff were excellent. I particularly liked the buzzer on the table to attract their attention, I'm glad we made the effort (a 70 mile drive) to have a family get together at this venue. It won't be the last. Well done Spread Eagle.
