The Crown in Vale of White Horse

The Crown was ok. It does seem expensive for what it is. My sandwich had very ordinary sliced white bread, one corner of which was slightly stale! The filling was nice as was the slaw and fries. It just felt like new management from when I had much more enjoyed it in the past. So, ok only.

Good tasty roast beef but served warm not hot on a cold plate. Ambience of the Crown is bare boards.

Over 45 minutes wait for snacks soup was warm nit hot. We have been many time and never had these issues

We love The Crown but this was a poor evening. We booked out table two days beforehand. Ordered starters and pizzas - no worries. Then the waiter told us the kitchen was busy they wouldn't be starting to cook pizzas for 45mins. We said that was OK. Then the waiter came back and said they couldn't do my order of Padron Peppers so I had to order a different starter. They arrived and my wife was given the wrong starter. Given the wait she just ate it - but it was totally overloaded with garlic. Then the waiter told me they were starting pizzas but couldn't do my order of Pizza Bianca and I had to order something else. The Pizzas arrived (two different kinds) and they were horrible. Pizza isn't that difficult! Limp cold base, hardly any topping, no tomatoe, and some sort of stone-cold shop-bought ultra-sweet sauce squeezed all over. Almost like sweet raspberry. They were horrible. Bill was over £80. Waiter did his best - he was nice. We've always loved The Crown's ambience and I don't like to moan but this was really terrible.

Everything fairly awful and too expensive. The absolute low was one of the staff deciding to clean all the kids chairs with foul smelling chemicals in front of 3/4 tables. Why during Sunday lunch?

We visited crown on 27/12. I always have a good experience here. Today no exception. The only thing was this time due to season they were very busy so took a bit longer for food to arrive but worth the wait. Staff very polite and apologetic. Good atmosphere. Pineapple and carrot cake a must

It was a very, very busy Christmas Eve. Staff were brilliant! We booked a table, it was reserved. Food choice good. Beer too.

The sandwiches on the lunch menu are very disappointing. The main problem is the bread which is semi-toasted which presumably is because it has been defrosted in a microwave. The chef should visit the Blenheim Sandwich Bar and see how really fresh nutritious sandwiches and filled rolls are prepared.

Great service, food was good slightly on the pricey side for what it was. Serving staff were very chatty and friendly made us feel really comfortable. I can recommend the malbec it was fabulous

We had a lovely meal at the Crown. Although when a friend asked for some Parmesan to go on top of her dish of gnocchi we were charged £1.50 this was not made clear when it was asked for and in no way did she eat all of the parmesan that was given to her in a pot. Very disappointing. On the whole the food was lovely and the meal enjoyable

A lovely relaxing environment. Very friendly and helpful staff who make you feel very welcome. The food is lovely especially the carrot and pineapple cake. Highly recommend

We visited the Crown on Sunday . We felt customer service was poor, we waited 20 mins before we had to go and ask if anyone was able to take our order only to realise the table behind us who came in before us had also not ordered food either. We were never asked if everything ok . Other than the fact we were hungry we may have been more critical re food but it was typical pub food . We also ordered drinks and had one completely wrong . Then bill was wrong and 12% service charge which we didn’t feel was justified so had that taken off . Would we re visit? Based on our experience and possibly when other places could be tried. No. Better staff training could have made this experience more positive as clearly staff were not working as a team .

Always have had good food and service, however yesterday evening we were seated next to a hen party. No problem with the party but would have appreciated a table in an adjacent room.

We've come here a few times for dinner and it's always been so lovely! Last night we went for a birthday and the service was great - we were greeted really cheerily and the people were so kind. The food is always so tasty here, too - we ordered the steak tagliatta and chicken caesar salad and both were so fresh and tasted great. We also ordered the squid and focaccia for starters which were really nice! Will always go here when we're in Woodstock :)

The restaurant was buzzing with covers on all tables. It was so popular that one of the ‘starters’ was not available. Lots of people but one could hear one’s self talk, just. Friendly mine hoste and staff

Lovely staff, great pizza & nice atmosphere. Was just what we wanted. We are at 8.15 on a weekday but were not made to feel rushed in any way.

The Crown is a fantastic venue for eating or drinking and meeting friends and family. Immaculately trained staff, attentive without ever being intrusive. There is a wonderful ambience there which encourages you to stay and entices you back. Fabulous food; not cheap but worth every penny. My favourite public house.

We had a perfect evening, welcomed and seated in the conservatory which was light, airy and relaxing. We had the loveliest waitress and our food was delicious - chicken & gnocchi - accompanied by lovely wine. Our halloumi shared starter, bread with oil and shared cheesecake also delicious. Relaxing after dinner drinks in the bar before home..we need to make sure we return more often!

What a find! We chose it for the location and menu, and were delighted in the quality of the food and drinks. My Cosmo was delicious, and a nice change from my usual G&T. This pub has a real bartender. We ordered croquettes--superb. Etherially light but fully flavored. Ditto the meatballs--light but very flavorful, with a delicious tomato and garlic sauce. The server told us the chef is Spanish--which explains the lovely crema Catalana dessert. Go, go!

Good quality food freshly cooked to order and very attentive service which was greatly appreciated

Seated in the restaurant area at the back - plants on the windowsill looked very unloved, spotted some ants around. Ordered roast (1 x veggie wellington, 1 x chicken). Initial chicken was severely undercooked. Sent back, received fresh plate quite quickly, with apology. Alarm going off in nearby storage area, wasn't dealt with. Overall, seems overpriced for the quality offered. Was not offered a discount or any further follow-up apology despite the undercooked chicken.

Service was really slow and no one came to tell us there would be a wait on food. Generally just felt disorganised - they brought us a jug of water straight away but we had to wait for glasses as they didn’t have any. A bit disappointing that they only do roasts for children on Sundays. The roasts were decent - the roast chicken was lovely but for the price they need to have something to make them special e.g. the chicken didn’t come with stuffing or bread sauce.

We went on a Sunday for the lunch menu- ordered the lamb roast and the vegetable wellington which were both incredible. The atmosphere was great, very family friendly location with lovely decor and a warming fire.

We had dinner at The Crown. The setting is nice, the food is pretty average and overall a bit disappointing. Staff is friendly and always available.

Very good food and service from a mercifully small menu. One of the best Old Fashions I've had in the UK. The prices are reasonable and the service is very friendly. I'll definitely be back.

We had to wait for 50 mins for our food from ordering. Only once prompted, did the waitress state that they were having a food safety inspection (which was fair) but completely failed to state this in the 50 mins earlier! Once food arrived, the fries were completely undercooked (obviously rushed through) and the strips of steak in my 'burger' were completely overcooked and chewy! The rest of the food was fine and the waitress, to be fair, gave us a very generous discount.

Attended a wake here recently. We were well looked after with a good selection of finger buffet food.

The service is invariably efficient and friendly. The food, overall, is good quality. However, the hummus was too garlicky and over salted. The chips and zucchini fritti were delicious, as were the pizzas. My gnocchi, however, were a little under flavoured. We will return but the food felt somewhat underpowered this time around. A lovely place to visit and highly recommended.

Boxing Day and the service wasn’t great. Limited menu but really tasty food. We wanted to sit by the fire on a free table but the waiter was adamant he wanted us to sit across the restaurant on a chilly table by the window. I didn’t understand why people were being turned away from nice tables as it was so quiet! We had to ask for a menu which was a shame. Food was nice though.

Sunday lunch at The Crown, Woodstock on 17th December 2023. Wasnt helped by the fact we - as a couple- were seated right next to a rather loud and merry table for 12+ kids- depite the other seats available. Bar humbug you may think but literally couldnt hold a conversation at some points. £22 each for a roast dinner: beef, lamb or pork with carrots, cabbage, parsnips and a couple of roast potatoes was very pricey in my view - food was warm though and meat well cooked - but nothing better than my local £10 sunday carvery - perhaps being close to Blenheim Palace has upped their prices - if not the delivery. Add on dessert - a nice stickey toffee pudding ( best part of the meal) and icecream - was a hefty £77 for 2 for Sunday lunch. Staff were ok - efficient enough - in short - was ok but didnt make me want to rebook

Think we had a new waitress, lovely person but didn't have good knowledge of the menu or available drinks. Otherwise the food, surroundings and prices all good. Would definitely go back.

The food was good, however the toilets were disgusting in both the men's & ladies.

Waiting staff were lovely and courteous. Food wasn’t great for the place we were in and the ambience. Main items were pizza which we were looking forward too… very bland with no herbs, garlic or flavour to them leaving the toppings and cheese tasteless. We ordered a starter of focaccia bread, which was just a bit of bread nothing to it, very overpriced for a slice of bread. Also starter of meatballs didn’t define the meat, granted we should have checked but still no consideration for whether we eat pork or not would not recommend anything we ordered.

Waitress and barman were lovely. Food fair, nothing special, bit disappointing. The cost of a mulled wine was meant to be deducted but it wasn’t until I mentioned it.

Breakfast whilst in the area great staff fully recommended it

I checked the online Menu for my kids before booking to ensure there was good enough choices for them. This was a futile exercise as the menu was “out of date online”..the exact words of the waitress. The only option they had for kids was 2 variants of pizza. It was my daughters birthday, they had been for pizza with their mother in the afternoon. I asked if the kitchen could do something else for the kids (plain chicken with chips etc) but was told they would not do this. This lazy attitude was seen throughout the venue, the Loos were filthy and the food we had was basic and under seasoned. Not good at all.

Menu was super limited and we were not told ahead of time. Also super obnoxious guy at the bar listening to his phone on speaker. I had to ask him to stop which got confrontational and honestly the bar tender or restaurant should have handled it.

Fast friendly service, nothing was problem. Good quality food, would return when passing.

Always a good experience and food is great. My daughter said her double burgers was amazing, my husband really enjoyed his pigeon and my shredded lamb shoulder was a good size portion but sadly the lamb lacked flavour it needed to have more red wine gravy but potatoes were really nice. My squid starter was excellent.

Great food and great service, walking distance to to Blenheim. Accommodated 11 easily. They do put a 12.5% service charge on though.

We had previously stayed at the Crown a few years ago and really enjoyed it so decided to call in for dinner as we were in the area. Food and service were excellent.

For reasons beyond the pub’s control, the full menu wasn’t available. This was a shame as I was in the mood for one of their hearty Spanish-style stew-type dishes, but the celeriac steak I had instead was delicious, and my friend enjoyed his pizza too. He said the base was softer and tastier than most, and that the cheese, spicy sausage and peppers were good too. The staff were excellent - friendly, thoughtful and attentive. We will be going back.

Had a family meal out here and had a lovely time. The food was really nice, the servers are very welcoming and came over to check we were happy several times. The atmosphere is lovely and there is free parking along the road that can be used.

Helpful staff who were very flexible about us changing the time at last minute but the food, which was largely pizzas, took a very very long time to come - a good hour - we had clients with us so that made it a little tricky. on that basis not sure I would recommend for business use but yes to a friend with a caveat

Great awareness of coeliac. Staff were aware of gluten free and coeliac and showed me what I could have on the menu. They also informed me that their dishwasher was broken incase I was concerned about plates being washed with water that may have gluten in. I found this very thoughtful to inform me. Great experience overall and delicious food. Will be returning. The blonde lady that worked as a waitress was very polite and well informed!!

Lovely lunch. Few too many dogs for my liking. They were very well behaved but I’m not keen on dogs being around while you’re eating. Otherwise very nice indeed.

Had high expectations! But very overpriced and very little value for money. We picked this place for good location and reasonable children’s menu. The fish fingers were simply frozen bog standard fish fingers from a supermarket. The pizza a chicken, sweetcorn and onion had huge chunks of chicken many bits having to be removed as they had fat and uneditable bits of chicken. The steak sandwich was sent back the first time as the bun was burnt to a crisp. The second one was better but still not good value. The waiter did say they would remove the cost of drinks for the inconvenience however they did not. The toilets were dirty. The restaurant was full of flies. It just generally felt like there was little effort to be a higher end pub but just settling for mediocre at best. Such a shame will not be visiting again.

Very nice meal Staff were great as always. Nice to see a changed menu.

Food was great, was a bit surprised about service charge on top. Would have thought it would be customers choice. Must be honest it has put us off going again because of this. The salads were quite pricey on their own. Which I do not mind paying (compliments to the chef) but charge on top was a bit much.

Pleasant spacious interior. Three local real ales on handpull. Menu reduced on Tuesday but still reasonable choices. Tasty pizza shared with a salad... Seems preferable to ploughing through a whole pizza (or leaving some). Service was very good.

It was an unusually quiet Saturday evening in Woodstock, pretty much everywhere. But that made it a very chilled evening, and at The Crown, we experienced a warm welcome and lovely service, which we always do. I wish they had continued with their pea & rocket (?) pizza, it was delicious, so I'm hoping it might make a return!.. Lovely wine, warm and helpful service, good table, there's nothing not to like when we visit. Thank you :))

Lovely pre-concert meal - managed to get a shaded table in courtyard so lovely cool meal and cocktails

They accepted my reservation but when we arrived, we were told that only had seating for us in the bar. The bar doesn’t serve food after 8pm, so what was the point of our dinner reservation?! Luckily we were able to find dinner somewhere else, but really disappointed with this place. We had heard good things.

The food was fantastic, so was the service. I would highly recommend it.

The atmosphere and service were very very good but I was slightly disappointed by the food quality and lack of options. Gone were the trademark veal meatballs that had been one of the reasons we kept on going back to the crown over the past decade. The focaccia which used to be fragrant and crusty lacked flavour and the burger didn’t include any greens. The hummus and flatbread were very good and my husband’s pizza was nice so overall still a good experience.

Four of us went on a lovely sunny Saturday evening. The place is located in the centre of the town, ample on street parking around. We were meet as soon as we entered and shown to our pre booked table. Drinks order taken and delivered swiftly food order followed. Menu has a reasonable choice. Drinks and food about what you would expect. Our waitress was friendly, smiled, seemed to enjoy her work, she certainly had plenty to do, she even came out with a couple of funny responses. The place had families and groups of young en and women. The place was clean and as soon as a table was emptied it was cleared for re use. I wouldn't hesitate in returning.

Always good food and great service. They are also child friendly.
