The Midget in Vale of White Horse

I enjoy this pub but it has downgraded ever since the revamp. Normally i would of loved to come to this pub but now after the revamp it doesnt have the same atmosphere as the midget. The staff are ok but not very friendly. The food was also a 90 min wait even though when it came it was very nice. I would not recommend anymore.

Great pub to visit. The service is excellent, and we are always made to feel very welcome. Food is good, and the team goes above and beyond to make it a great experience.

2 mains on a deal so very good value. Fast service. Good choice of drinks

First visit here in over twenty years, but following the revamp thought we would give it a try. Have to say we thoroughly enjoyed our visit, the revamp,food, service all good. Still don't agree with the name change though,fed up with companies bowing to a minority all the time.

Very nice and tidy, sound aswell, good i was, brillo, great. Only one problem, when they ask you for a review they ask you to choose from the drop down bar. There is no drop down bar. Having said that, there is a nice boozer bar there. Shot hit.

Nice place, such a shame the name changed, it used to celebrate the MG Midget one Abingdons legacies. Now it celebrates the rain and get pissed on in the whole of England. Apart from that. Superb place. Great food, plenty of parking and polite staff. Most excellent.

I have to start by saying the two young ladies who served us were friendly, helpful and did all they could. The issues were largely down to management , training and organisation. Firstly drinks- When we arrived and ordered drinks- 1 medium and 1 large glass of wine and a coffee- we were informed that there was no milk so an alternative drink was ordered When they were brought to the table the soft drink was brought without a glass and both wines were equally large A smaller one had been ordered for the driver so this was a concern. Later in the meal a no alcohol beer was ordered and there was lipstick on the glass! The bar staff happily replaced it and the beer, however the response from the manager (see below) was unacceptable Secondly, the food. When the drinks were brought to the table we were told there would be a 20 min plus wait as the chef had not come in and the manager was sorting out the kitchen. We said this was no problem and put in our order. A few minutes later we were told there was no Hunters Chicken so I changed my order to lasagne. When the meals arrived the lasagne looked unappetising and gloopy but I ate it anyway as we had come out with a friend who had just been bereaved and we didn’t want to make a fuss. (We had brought her here at her request as it was near her home) It was edible but the taste reflected its appearance! The fish and chips and scampi were also overdone but again they were eaten. What has prompted me to leave my first ever bad review was the manager. He came to the table, all smiles, and said if we’d only come an hour later we could have had what we’d originally wanted as the delivery had arrived. I commented that the lasagne was a bit grim and he said “yes- all the managers agree it’s the worst thing on the menu” When I said that my glass also had lipstick on it, he said the lipstick cleaner had just arrived with the delivery. I’m not sure if this was meant to be a joke or not but there was no apology for the quality of the food or the cleanliness of the glasses. Surely if they agree a dish is sub standard it should have been removed from the menu? To add insult to injury , we noticed on returning back to my friend’s house that we had been charged for the chicken dish, not the lasagne which was cheaper. We really couldn’t be bothered to go back to the pub for the adjustment as quite frankly we will never cross the threshold again!

Dont go on this place , i wait 1 hour and 40 min for food , and they told me that i have to wait 1 hour , horrible Service , don't go there choice another pub !!! The manger not even say sorry for that she lie my daughter that the food will come soon , soon means 40 min!!

Food quality - 5* if you get it Revamp - 5* looks amazing Service - 1* needs improvement Being my local, I couldn’t wait to see the revamp the pub underwent last year, it is a place we visit every week and it was much needed, in more ways then one!! After a few visits (including one lovely midweek lunch) we decided to come here for my husbands birthday meal last month, and wow it was like nothing had changed! We booked a table, arrived to check in to a 10 min wait as the staff were all new, (we get that) we spoke to a manager who wasn’t they were not working, yet they was ok serving the regulars so we had to wait!!! we then found out that no table had been reserved for us, fortunately there was empty tables. Once seated we found out other family’s had the same issues regarding booked tables!! We ordered our food for our sons to come out as a starter, then after an hour and a half we find out our meals have been lost! Yet others who arrived after us were being served theirs! This is not acceptable, and has put us off eating there again which is a shame as the foods great once you get it and as it’s our local we believe the pub to be a very important part of our community! We will still visit for drinks, but that’s all untill these issues are resolved

Disappointing. Used to visit while studying in the town found out recently that the name had been changed due to political reasons. I left without purchasing. Abingdon was centre of British motoring, and to change the name is an insult. It's bad enough the quality of green king has dropped, but now you may may aswell vist another well-known high street chain in town as all the qualities of green king have gone.

Had a fantastic meal here today. Was out of this world. Staff all amazingly friendly and helpful. Excellent!

Come here most weeks because its convenient - sadly this week it was evident the kitchen had no idea what our food orders were, they came out in the wrong times based on the time we ordered and missing items. Shame, place has been spruced up but the service is still the same

I hadn’t been in much before the refurb but have a few times since. The staff are really friendly even in busy times, the drinks are so reasonably priced compared to town and the toilets are always very clean. We’ve eaten here once, it was an absolute bargain, the food was delicious and the portions were big. A very nice, local pub.

Fabulous referb and now with the new management made this place my new favourite local:) great food too!!!

I come into the pub every day and I must say since the refurb it has been amazing!! Food has improved massively, Jess greeting everyone with a smile like always and always goes above and beyond to make sure customers are happy and gets good customer service. Ian the new manager introducing himself to everyone and makes a chance seeing a manager who actually works and makes effort with customers. Pleased to call this my local.

Just been in for lunch, between the refurb, new manager and staff it was absolutely wonderful! We also came for dinner a couple of weeks ago and again was amazing. Food piping hot and came quickly. Staff friendly and attentive. Shout out to the new manager who was also the chef today, incredible change!

After the revamp we visited or local many times for drinks, and had a lovely time so decided to bring my family here for my husband’s birthday! What, a , shambles!!!!!! Booked the table which wasn’t reserved, took 10mins for staff to actually deal with us and get us seated as she had been left alone, then our sons meal was brought out as a starter, our main meals were then lost resulting in other tables, who ordered after us, was given their food! Sat for an hour and 15 mins for nothing! Saw a family eating a McDonald’s and can now see why! Honestly thought the revamp would be the start of something good for my local, seems to be the place to avoid untill they manage to get staff who know what they are doing! Ruined birthday so will choose wisely next year! Come for drinks and 5* pub!

To the two lady's on bar to day concerning you was short staffed you was brilliant and explained everything so we new what was going on food was hot and to be honest the best I had down there in a while and to the new manager you went over and beyond had no chef you took over and you pulled it out the bag did not judge the kids being in there like old manger use to still not sure on name and will always migit to me but give it a go food nicer and very welcomeing

Disappointing experience ! I was looking forward to it, but Went to Roaring Raindrop for Christmas lunch with friends & family , There was No festive atmosphere, No Xmas decorations! Only one tree by the entrance with no lights on it. The poor chief was working on his own! Sadly Food was quite bland, I know it was a budget meal but No cranberry sauce was offered! staff seemed unprepared for us. I felt sorry for the chief. Overall disappointed, sorry.

This is definetely my favorite pub so far! Good food, good prices, family and animal friendly and humans are tolerated :) Cannot ask for more. Edit: It became even better with rebranding! Really good job 👍

Utterly ridiculous to have changed the name of this place. Don't spend your £ with those who cave to the woke and by doing so obfuscate our local history.

A disgraceful decision by Greene King to change the name of this great pub on the strength of someone in Liverpool being offended. There is over 5000 supporters of keeping the name against less then 1400 for the change. Greene King have already caused enough damage in Abingdon.

I have never been inside this pub, but the food in the pictures looks lovely and the building looks stunning and I would like to say that I feel very sorry about you. The government is trying to make you change the name of your pub and erase your history, so I rated you 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nice atmosphere with young ladies behind the bar ordered food come out some young lad with baseball hat and purple hair must of been on drugs went to 2 different tables before it came to mine had chat for 2 minutes at each table on way food came cold by the time it got to my table who interviewed these people hope the new landlord or land lady sort the pub out as it feels no one cares

Been here many times for breakfast, lunch, dinner and just drinks. The food is amazing quality at reasonable prices. The staff are incredibly friendly and fun! Really couldn’t ask for a better local, highly recommend this pub/restaurant.

Awful staff attitude, it feels like they couldn't care less about customers. I've never had a good experience.

Lovely pub to go to you can see they are short staffed but they work hard to keep the service at a high standard very polite and accommodating.

Staff not very attentive totally lacking in atmosphere, mains were average at best deserts nothing like we ordered, very disappointing. We will definitely not visit again and would not recommend

Popped into this pub with a friend for a meet up. Was nice and chilled, they had ALOT of TV's so if you don't like sport avoid it but was a good vibe inside. Nice staff and good service. Food was alright too.

We had a lovely afternoon at a family party. The staff were friendly and efficient, and looked after us really well. Everyone had a fantastic time!

The Yorkshire pudding with mash and Cumberland sausage was very hard and the mash I had to cut so not a good as I expected !!

Great Food Steak was cooked to a Perfect Medium Rare, pint selection is great and Josh behind the bar is a legend at pouring pints.

Myself and friends went to the Midget on Easter Sunday for drinks/food. We arrived around 3pm , The pub was extremely busy -i think due to the bank holiday and football being on TV the bar was very short staffed, only 2 serving on the bar (I felt sorry for the staff working) We ordered food and was told there was an hour wait. Which was understandable due to how busy the pub was , we waited more like 1.5 hours for the food only to be served with a black burnt meal which was sent back to the kitchen are replaced with a cold served meal which was also sent back. I'm sure if the kitchen staff were to probe there dishes before sending out to the table this would have been avoided . I have to say it was a nice atmosphere in the pub but lack off staff over a bank holiday weekend is a managers error!

Have booked a meal for Sunday food looked good.

Lovely little Gem of a pub. Only visited once while staying close by. Very friendly , happy to help, lovely and clean. Friendly service will be visiting again. Happy New year to everyone there 🎉🍾

Very long wait for food, 45 minutes,pub was very quiet. When meal arrived garlic breads had to be asked as it didn’t come out with the food. When we arrived a member of staff was clearing and rearranging the tables, very noisy and almost throwing the chairs, looked very fed up.

Slow service. Too noisy with football tv. Toilets appalling

Waited around 20 minutes for food to come, but reflected that the veg was freshly cooked, plus several other groups had ordered just before us. The meals were hot, fresh, very tasty and generous portions. Besides the usual 'pub grub' there were some interesting different dishes, including Christmas offerings. Staff were friendly. Plenty of seating. Large car park. It is a 'sports' pub with loads of screens - just be aware if this isn't your thing. Though it was very unobtrusive at lunchtime.

Arrived for lunch (having booked online a week ago) to a member of staff who stated he "hadn't been told there were any bookings) and then a woman to say "you aren't planning to wat are you? We haven't got a chef". They had my contact details on the booking yet no one bothered to call and advise. There was no apology only "I've only just got here and been told, nothing I can do". AVOID

Our local pub. Ate and drank there many times over the years. Most resent visit was to celebrate our wedding anniversary with a meal and drink.

What a great place we went here for a belated birthday meal with my son and had a lovely meal which was hot and tasty and as there was 10 of us and it all got to us at the same time was great. The staff were lovely, polite and very efficient.

We decided to have senior meal fish and chips the fish came out all batter could not find the fish no one seemed to care also our friend had steak pudding meat was all gristle and the mash potatoes where all dried up we are never going there again very disappointed

A rare sunny lunchtime caught them by surprise, so the pub was busy and they were struggling to provide a full menu. However, the staff and manager were super friendly and went out of their way to overcome their difficulties. Standard chain pub food (when available) but great service. Great outdoor seating in the sunshine.

We camped at the rugby club came down to get some food during the day service was good staff were friendly, really enjoyed the food just a shame we didn't get to have a game of Aunt Sally .

Went for the oddballs rally at the weekend. Good food, good beer, great atmosphere and the manager (John) even put the Celtic game on when we asked. Very accommodating.

Do not under any circumstances eat here. Ordered Sunday roast. Veg looked 2 weeks old. Mash was rubber and stuffing like a squash ball.

Had to wait 90 minutes for two meals. The wait was bad, but the dishonesty about when the meals would arrive was the worst. After about 45 minutes I was told the meals were 5/10 minutes away. When I asked about 30 minutes later I was told one of the meals was actually ready, but the we didn't see the food until about 20 minutes later. If the chef had been honest about it we probably would have gone elsewhere. The reason they gave for slow service was that lots of orders came in at the same time. Lots of dinner orders around 7pm, absolute shocker! We did get a refund, and the food was tasty when it came. I've had a decent experience in the past, about a 40 minute wait, so was hopefully just a one off. Maybe better for just a drink, though.

A group of us went to the Midget for breakfast this morning. The food was lovely and the waiter dealt with us on his own. He was wonderful. Really enjoyable . Well done Midget.

Such a lovely afternoon spent at our local pub. Really welcoming and friendly staff. Food was absolutely delicious! Lovely atmosphere whist watching the football, playing pool and talking to others in the pub! Thank you all and will definitely be back!

15 members of the MG Car Club attended this morning for their all-day breakfasts and had a great welcome and wonderful service from the staff, facilities clean, food was plenty and so reasonable too, as MG nuts it was lovely of the landlord to bring out the old visitor book going back to 1977 for us to sign, a nice touch by him, and plenty of MG memorabilia throughout the pub. Would most certainly return and happy it is fully dog friendly as well.

Friendly, great prices, good service, good food. The locals are really welcoming and there is a great atmosphere.

Very enjoyable food, three courses for £6.49, numerous varieties of beers and lagers. Staff were also very friendly and helpful, perfect lunchtime.

We went there yesterday one person on bar got drink worng twice waited over half an hour four a coffee as they served people after we asked four one joke got a buger meal was not nice at all and waited over an hour staff need to learn how to smile and go on customer service corse and four when my daughter 3year old son who is being assessed four adhd and autism four the lady with blonde here and black glass to pull a face and shake her head when cleaning tables thought no one see will i did🤬😡 not happy ment to be a faily pub i would stear clear

Even though it was very busy and only had two people on bar we got our food and drink with little wait for the amount of people there. Staff were friendly and polite we will be returning

Large pub with good parking. Food available and reasonable prices.

We have been coming in regularly now for a couple of months with our two boys. Food has always been great and service never short of fabulous thanks to Tracy!
