Awful experience, principally because of the shocking service. Sadly, I cannot recommend it in any way and definitely won’t be going back. It took 70 mins from ordering to starters being served, then 40 mins between starters being cleared to mains arriving. In addition, a number of starters, mains and side orders were missing throughout resulting the significant delays for some individuals. We were a party of 16, but the restaurant was completely empty. I would love to say that the food made up for the poor service, but it didn’t. Despite what was a really nice looking menu, the food was distinctly average especially considering the price. I expected so much more. The room was also freezing; we sat in our coats for the entire meal. On the plus side, it is a genuinely impressive venue, the decor is on point. It is modern whilst complimenting the buildings amazing history. The manager did apologise, however I thought offering free coffee if we ordered desserts was a poor/cheeky offer considering the experience. We would have been there until midnight!!

This the first time I ate at this restaurant. I knew that The Ballroom at the Old Crown Coach Inn had won Best restaurant at the 2024 Ox in a Box award ceremony so I was keen to give it a go. It did not disappoint. The Menu was imaginative and the cooking was perfectly executed, the food delicious from start to finish. The service was friendly and efficient. I will be back!

A spur of the moment decision to book a table for dinner. Plenty of spaces in the dinning room but the courtyard was buzzing with people. Delicious meal, slightly over enthusiastic waitrose who didn't really listen to our order for drinks but the mix up was delt with efficiently and pleasantly. Loved the pickled veg in the salad and my partner was raving about the cold pea soup

Booked for lunch as it was a special family occasion. Lovely setting and dining area. Great friendly staff with nothing being too much trouble. Catered very well with options for one food allergy in the group but all the above was just a taster of what was to come. The FOOD, which was superb! Interesting combinations of local fresh produce, prepared and presented with care and expertise. Everything that came looked and tasted fantastic. Really a stand out meal and occasion. My huge compliments to the chef and crew.

We had a gorgeous pear/ chocolate/ dessert also . The homemade bread was very nice too !! I felt that £30 for three courses of food which was of a “fine dining “ standard was excellent . We stayed for 2 nights in the huge Court room suite, with 4 poster bed, once used as an actual court room by Judge Jeffries. Fascinating history. Everything was very clean and every need catered for. The bar area was nice and relaxing and staff very attentive. We ate in the restaurant one night, which was very nice, but fine dining is not our preference and we felt the food was very small for the cost. Would like to see a broader more affordable menu. Breakfast was excellent. We had booked on the champagne folly tower tour, which was fantastic. Martha, a lovely member of staff walked us up to the folly tower, unlocked it and took us up, unloaded her backpack with an ice bucket, ice, a bottle of champagne and 2 glasses she had carried all the way, and left us for 40 mins on our own to admire the views, while sipping champagne, which was absolutely fantastic as was the weather. Definitely worth doing. Thanks to Martha for making this such a special start to our holiday. We would definitely return as hotel is newly refurbished in the last year or so and staff are excellent.

Oh Faringdon....what is on your doorstep??? I've lived here for 20 years and before tonight, only been in the Old Coaching Inn once. Because we wanted to try it out before making a booking for a group of us, we ventured in there this evening. Booked online (easy), a phone call from the Maitre D' - were we aware it was a special Valentine's menu?..... We needn't have worried - it was just totally delicious. The salmon with wasabi and pea ice cream....a stand out and a dish that has to rank as one of my all-time favourites. A beautiful old building with bags of character and really tastefully restored. Great staff.... Faringdon, appreciate what you have - a gem!!

I read a book called The Southerly Curse, (Before the Poets Trap) by Sylvie Gallimore and a visit was made to the Old Crown Coaching in by the hero in 1840. The Inn sounded delightful so my family and I drove there to have one of their Sunday Carveries. Brilliant food. It was however the flagstone floors and exposed beams that I was looking for, as in the book. I can see why this In was chosen to have a place in the story. We did not stay over night, but might in the future.

Stayed overnight recently in this quirky ancient hotel cum drinking house. The room was adequate with comfortable beds but the room gave an impression of tiredness - free standing wardrobe, plenty of hot water and toiletries. the bar has flag stones floor but, importantly a good range of beers with a courtyard where smokers can mass. As we had an evening engagement and would be returning about 9.30pm we asked if was possible to have sandwiches available in our room. Our request was readily met and our modest snack was waiting our arrival . Breakfast in the car very was self service but everything you could need was available. Marvellous start to the day.

I used to live nearby and came down from Northumberland for a reunion and specifically chose this inn as I have fond memories of the pub and the town. This was a fabulous coaching inn with lots of quirks, a huge building and labyrinthine. Great beer and staff and an absolute delight. I arrived in the town to find it had died. It was a cotswold border/Thames Valley lovely small town with a wonderful selection of shops and pubs. It’s now a desert of boarded up pubs, closed shops, and an air of resigned despair. On checking in the manager seemed a bit annoyed to be taken away from his dinner that he was eating near the bar. Even though I had a heavy bag, and a dinner suit there was no offer of help. He seemed put out by my arrival. The room was tired and in great need of refurbishment. The bathroom has a window at bottom height with no discernible blind! There is a telly and a tiny freestanding wardrobe assumably bought from a house clearance, but the rest was chipped and shabby. I went for a pint downstairs and the one I was served to take to my room I poured down the sink and opened a can that I’d brought with me. I chose not to pay the £8 for a breakfast and will source it elsewhere in the morning.I am very sad about writing this as I have very fond memories of this town and this inn. The town appears to have died and no one seems to be interested in giving it life support, including this and the other pubs. I spent 5 years in the Round Table here, helping make the community a great one, hence the reunion. But they all have seemed to have given up. Including the management of this once lovely inn.

However here, without prior warning, the chef was able to provide a delicious off menu main course and then, to her amazement, a gluten free 'normal' desert apple crumble. La ducha y azulejos estaban moule, mantenimiento de nuevo montado sólo es necesario. Visited this last Sunday. First patrons of the lunch service and about 40 of us in total. The set up was nice in the "private" room we'd booked, right next to carvery. We all started queuing for the carvery and waiting our turn to then have members of the public kicking off about standing and queueing and waiting. All be it, one lady was older and complaining about being on her legs all morning so couldn't wait any longer.. I'm heavily pregnant and had also been on legs all morning but got on with it. After queuing 20 minutes for the food and paying £4.90 for half a pint and a pint of coke - seemed expensive.. I chose what I wanted. Got tiny slithers of overcooked meat, one nice Yorkshire, a few overly greasy roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese which was mushy, unflavoursome and swimming in milk rather than anything seasoned. The parsnips were either still from the ground or burnt, peas tasted out of a tin of brine and the "creamy" mash was not anything close. The best part unfortunately was the table sauces from a jar as meant I had some flavour to my meal and cut the dryness.Won't be visiting again. Wasn't the only one bitterly disappointed.

All skin no meat and the calamari had 4 very small pieces for $22 entree.Barramundi main was good ,again small but tasty .Enjoyed the diffrent selection of wines .Suggest if you try this restaurant you only have a main .We had 3 entrees, one main and a bottle of wine for $140 and didnt enjoy the food other than the Barramundi.Nice old house and good 50s music which is played on LP records .We booked and when we arrived they said we had to share a table ....no way would I do that when I had booked for 2 and they never mentioned that ,they sorted it but it took some convincing on my part before they rearranged the computer as there were plenty of tables for 2 when we arrived .Wouldnt Rush back.

Have now eaten here 3 times since the new management took over and have been very satisfied with the amount of (very tasty) food i have been given. all staff were very polite and willing to cook extra food not advertised. I would recommend having the carvery! As for the building it has lots of character and a fascinating history. Will definitively be coming back

Went here for lunch on a Friday. Lovely old pub with great atmosphere and lovely log fire. A new menu was advertised. There were a couple of items written on a board. i asked for the menu and was told it was being printed. When it came there wasn't much choice. Very disappointing. We had Balti chicken and my mother had scampi and chips. The portions were very small, not very hot and nothing special. My mothers meal looked very dry, in fact the lemons looked as though they had been left out for sometime! She didn't eat much of it and for what we had was expensive. What started off as looking quite exciting when we walked through the door ended up as a damp squib and we won't be lunching there again I don't think.

if your after old and quirky. You've found it ! Room very small and sparce , thin walls so you hear all the noise in the hall way, Staff polite and friendly, breakfast good with good choice overall. 6 out of 10. Ok. For a one night stop over

Went to this pub after a lovely visit to Kelmscott Manor, we had booked a table for 6pm as we were going to use our Taste Card, when we arrived we went to the bar and ordered some drinks, when we asked where the restaurant was we were told it wouldn't be open, we could go and sit in there if we wanted but we wouldn't be able to be served from there as there was only one bar person working, we asked where we could sit she said anywhere in the bar or out in the courtyard, we got a menu, the dishes on offer seemed to be very mediocre, fine if you wanted an easy pub meal certainly not restaurant standard, so we left feeling very disappointed.

The room was very spacious and lovely. Plenty of room for the travel cot. Extremely comfy bed. Not noisy at all considering we stayed a Saturday. Breakfast also delicious and staff very friendly. We have found a gem and will use this hotel as our regular stay when visiting family in the area.

This an excellent Sunday carvery with a good range of roasts, and good value for money. Always friendly and attentive service.

Stopped here with friends for a few cold beers. The staff were fantastic as was the service and special mention to a lovely bar maid called Charley. Friendly and professional. Although I did not eat this time the food coming out of the kitchen looked very appetising and will definitely be returning

we had a pub meal with the kids, (sorry cannot find the pub separate) but wanted to write a review, we looked at trip advisor before we came out but hadn't sen this one, then on a wet Saturday lunch time in Feb quiet a few places were shut but not this one. The staff were friendly, great with the kids, didn't feel at all bad with a 3rd old and 7 yr old in tow. The food was homemade, tasty and relatively inexpensive which was great. Loved their own beer. All in all helped make for a nice day out when the weather was anything but. Thnkas

Went with a crowd of associates to the Old Crown, primarily for a drink and to watch the football. The beer was great. I tried two or three real ales. Some of the crowd ate and it looked excellent. There was plenty of it and my associates said it was excellent too. It's a shame I was at the Old Crown for one night as it was extremely pleasant had a convivial atmosphere and friendly and helpful staff.

My wife & I visited the restaurant here for a Sunday carvery shortly after moving to Faringdon. The food was really excellent and the service outstanding. It was good to see that the luncheon was well supported, but there was plenty of room for more people!

This is definetely my favorite pub so far! Good food, good prices, family and animal friendly and humans are tolerated :) Cannot ask for more. Edit: It became even better with rebranding! Really good job 👍

Pork belly with crackling, total disappointment. Average meal with rock hard crackling don't reflect the price. Use to love this place.
