A lovely place. Great food and a friendly atmosphere

I can't believe I haven't written a review before now. We love the Bay Tree Cafe, everything about it is comfortable and welcoming, we can even take our dog with us and they gave him a free bowl of doggy treats. The food is always great, the service is always friendly, and the atmosphere is always friendly. Have been many times, and will definitely be going many more times.

It is a great cafe to visit food was delicious

The food was excellent and presented nicely. The dark haired lady who was serving was lovely, smiley, chatty and funny. Very busy which is good to see. A lovely place to eat.

Good to see a Seperate Vegan and Gluten Free menu. A good variety and nice homemade cake too.

Quick stop after Ridgeway hike. Food hot & served quickly Took a rocky road for takeout, very good

Owner responded to my original review then deleted comment so thought I would clarify. We visited for lunch, closing time on trip advisor showed 1600 but their winter hours were apparently closing at 1500 (not on TA). We arrived about 1430 my daughter ordered and we were served by someone who just placed the plates in the table in silence and walked off. Staff made no attempt to engage with us at all. They seemed more interested in closing up the kitchen Mine was a bacon sandwich, hard to make more interesting, but my daughter had smoked salmon and cream cheese with a large dollop of the cream cheese on it, wholly disproportionate to the balance. Must admit we felt we were tolerated rather than welcomed as customers. Must confess the chairs were quite hard so our short visit wasn’t even that comfortable. As is shown on my profile, I’m no stranger to reviewing and don’t have unrealistic expectations beyond the sort of venue visited. This one had little warmth and no welcome. Shame as I usually love cafes.

We visited just before closing, it was quite busy staff were there but not overly interested. Food was ok but not that exciting. Shame, staff could have been a little more enthusiastically served. Their chairs weren't that comfortable

Lovely place just on the outside edge of Wantage town centre. Lovely friendly feel to the place. The staff are welcoming and efficient. I can vouch that the English breakfast is outstanding, as is their Rocky-road slices. I will definitely be returning for food again.

Back again this weekend. Fabulous service as always and we decided on a cooked breakfast this time round. It was gorgeous, we took home several pieces of cakes too. Everything is very reasonably priced. The halloumi avocado brunch is to die for. Perfect poached eggs too. Excellent coffee and chat with the owner. Will be back again as it's so good..

The English Breakfast here is the best you'll find in Oxfordshire. Yes, really. The portions are generous, the staff are always very friendly and the seating areas are comfy. The prices are also very good value.

We came in on a very busy Saturday. Greeted and served by two of the loveliest and bubbly waitresses. The food we had was excellent, all topped off with first class service. Obviously a popular cafe due to the amount of customers. A real pleasurable experience....

Lovely suprise to find such great quality perfec poached eggs up a side street. Combune that with a warm welcome and a nice coffee made for a great visit.

Popped in out of the drizzle on a flying visit to Wantage. Picked the Bay Tree as it was No 1 on Tripadvisor. It was very busy for a Tues morning which we took as a good sign! Lovely waitress who was very friendly and polite. Great cappuccino, our friends ordered peppermint tea and red bush tea both of which were available and served in lovely big pots!

This is a lovely café tucked away a little, approximately behind the Post Office Vaults. It is immaculately clean and new-feeling, although it is very popular, so clearly they are established here. The coffee is fab and the prawn mayo and avocado sandwich I had was delicious. The cheese, onion and tomato toastie my friend had was also very nice. The service was efficient and friendly. Also what a refreshing change it is to see dogs being allowed back into some cafés, such as this one. We will definitely be back when we visit Wantage again.

Came across this place in Wantage and so glad we did. Upon walking in very clean and inviting decor, staff friendly and range of food on the menu was good. When food came it was presented well, very fresh and good quality. Will be going back again

Can recommend the Lemon cream tea and also the decaf cuppa tea too 👍 Lovely relaxing tea room. 2018. I live minutes from here and I'm upgrading my review of 4* two years ago to 5* now. Service is great, friendly and the food faultless. Super local tea room! 😊 Lovely food and great atmosphere. This is more tea room than greasy spoon, but an excellent alternative to Costa.

Great service, and nice drinks etc. The scrambled egg would benefit from some moisture, - a but of butter and milk would prevent it from drying up.

Friday morning 09:45 and it’s not open.…website and note on door says it’s open. A simple note on the door explaining situation would help and save a lot of confusion.

Excellent place for a tasty lunch or tea and cake. (Or both). Very friendly service, children and dogs welcome. Lovely staff. Good rang of gf options.

This was the 2nd time coming here. 1st time was a few years ago and I remember it. That says a lot about this place. Welcoming and polite service with an amazing full English Breakfast. Can't wait to come again! 🙂

A very friendly cafe. Straightforward cafe menu with a couple of nice specials. I had the sourdough, poached egg, avocado and bacon. Really yummy. My daughter had the kids sausage, beans and toast. She made me take a star off because there wasn't any garlic bread. (thought it should get 5 stars but hey, I'm not in charge around here...) Lovely place, highly recommended!

Food was good however the service wasn't amazing. The server was quite rude and seemed extremely grumpy. My nephew is a very fussy eater and when asked if she understood what he meant she bluntly replied not really but there you go in a unhelpful rude tone. Very clean cafe and nice food. Service could be a little happier

Nice atmosphere, good menu, prices not crazy

Popped into the Bay tree coffee house in the week. My husband had a regular breakfast, I had a tuna sandwich it was all very good. Just one thing no egg mayo. sandwich on the menu. Was surprised as such a favourite. The lady’s are so friendly , they make you feel welcome. So much better than a sterile chain cafe.

My first time here. It's smashing. Lovely people, tasty food, great ambience. Definitely will become a regular. 😊

If we lived closer, my weight would almost certainly increase :-) The cakes and scones looked so tempting. We called in for brunch and were not disappointed. The food and service were very good, the staff delightful. The way the place is decorated is relaxing not at all noisy and a pleasure to be in.

Never been disappointed going here, and today was no exception. The vegetarian breakfast was the nicest I've ever eaten.

Have visited the cafe a few times now. Service is excellent and friendly. Food is quality. And the dog gets a sausage. And for those who who say would have got better at Costa. They eat out of packets, like cardboard cups and never eat at the table.we will return.

On the advice of a local we tried here today. Welcome was friendly and genuine. We managed to find a table as it's was lunch time and busy. Loads to choose from but in the end we had coffee and a wrap, all was delicious and we will be back. The only bit of advice I would give is don't go in starving as I did ans there is too many tempting options.

A lovely independent cafe serving excellent food at reasonable prices. The Bay Tree Breakfast is a biggish plateful nicely presented and very tasty.

Absolutely fantastic breakfast meal, even at 1pm. Very dog friendly, the staff love the 4 legged visitors.

Incredible as always. Great service and wonderful food. Been going for years and has always been great. Went today for an afternoon tea with my mum and Nan and it was fab! Great cakes and lemon drizzle scones to die for!

I dont go very often, but always make a visit when I'm in the area. Its reliably good. good range for tea and a cake or morning coffee and a sticky bun! Staff are cheery and courteous, prices are reasonable and the cafe clean and well appointed. Happy to recommend.

We are regular visitors to the Cafe lovely staff helpful and friendly Mother likes small portions so they always do this. Safe atmosphere clean and social distance maintained . Take away coffee & Walnut cake fabulously delicious 😋

This is such an amazing place to eat, food prepared fresh well cooked and served by great friendly staff. I had the vegan breakfast which was so good. There is a fantastic menu well worth a visit.

Had a wonderful lunch with my family today! I was happy to see high chairs and books for kids even though we didn't end up using them. The food was spot on, delish!

Generous portions and friendly service. We visited regularly before lock down and were pleased to see it reopen. We visited on a Saturday morning and the cafe was buzzy but we were served promptly. We both went for the Bay Tree Breakfast which was a generous portion and all well cooked. The coffees were a great size and nice and hot. Reasonable price and very friendly place. Staff even went out of their way to help an elderly customer to her taxi outside, carrying her bag and making sure she got off okay. Nice touch for a local cafe.

Nice clean cafe, lots of tables and friendly staff. Fast service. We had a hot drink each and a bacon butty and a sausage butty. Tasty sandwiches. Clean toilet & baby changing facilities. Nice cafe for a lunch or brunch. We didn’t have a cake but they looked delicious.

Visited here today for lunch with my Mum and my friend. We have been once before so we know the food and service is good. We had the soup, toasted and sandwich and coffee or tea offer it was lovely and for £10 an absolute bargain!!!! They didn't have enough soup for 3 but when the 2 bowls came out there was plenty for 3 but obviously that's what they serve and didn't want us to have a smaller portion. The ladies are so lovely and will have a bit of a joke too. We took 2 lovely pieces of cake away with us because it looked amazing. Thanks again ladies we will be visiting again very soon.
