We stopped for lunch and enjoyed the best egg mayonnaise sandwiches that we'd ever had. Made fresh, retaining some warmth from the eggs being boiled, and with pepper for taste. Even though it was served in white bread, the effect was wonderful. Kudos.

Really good pub food. Shea cooks everything fresh so you have to wait but it is always good when it arrives. Not expensive, very good value. His chicken and ham pie was excellent and the ham in the ham, egg and chips was home cooked and really tasty.

This was my first visit to the Rose & Crown in over ten years, and it was wonderful to see that Shea's still running it and that new locals are enjoying it. The beer seemed remarkably cheap compared to other pubs I've been to over the last week, and I really enjoyed the Abingdon Bridge ale. As it was just a fleeting visit, I didn't get to try his famous carvery this time, which I've heard all about, but I will make sure to stop by to eat next time I'm back in the village!

We were made to feel very welcome on our first visit to this village pub. We live locally in Harwell but unfortunately our own village pub has recently closed down, so we had to travel a bit further afield. It was St Patrick's Day so there was a band to celebrate the occasion and the landlord also supplied free bar snacks, which were very tasty and much appreciated. It was a lovely night, thank you Shea.

Went in looking for a new local after recently moving to the area but… As others have mentioned, the landlord is rude and classless, making several facetious comments towards us before we left after one pint. He also served the locals before us, despite arriving after. Don’t bother

The Sunday roast choices were well cooked and very tasty. Waitress was polite & attentive. Unfortunate that the Landlord is quite so obsessed about footwear in his pub☹️ We had been warned that dogs & dirty boots were unwelcome. So our group had all changed out of our walking clothes & footwear. But still the Landlord felt it necessary to come and ask about our shoes😡 The Landlord’s attitude would make me think twice before going back

Absolutely fantastic little pub. Came in on Sunday evening and despite having stopped doing food at lunchtime, the landlord very kindly offered to get us some leftovers from the carvery. We had driven across from Kettering, after a trip involving the Yorkshire moors. We got there at 11.50, so parked up with another car waiting for the place to open. At around 12.00, the 'owner' turned up and said they had a private party. We had been sitting there for 10 mins and when I asked if we could at least use the toilets he refused. I tried to ask him about the next local place, but he seemed more interested in trying to sort out parking arrangements. I challenged him on his attitude and gather from another local pub that he is known!! It is extremely unlikely that I will be in the area again, but his attitude must go on record!

We have been coming here for a drink for about 6 months now and love the pub, atmosphere and friendly landlord. Decided to try it for food for the first time tonight and was not disappointed. Food was very tasty and very reasonably priced. I had the Caesar salad which was very good. They weren’t afraid to add the anchovies that should be in a Caesar salad, so many places give you a rather bland version because they are afraid of the anchovy. My husband had the homemade burger which again was very tasty and finished it off with a knickerbocker glory. I had a coffee with a mint club biscuit , a very nice touch. We called into The Rose & Crown today for a quick lunch and were not disappointed! The owner Shea, a great loss to Dublin, served our drinks and my wife quizzed him about the ham. He assured us that he cooked the hams himself so we wouldn't find better! We both chose Ham, Eggs & Chips. We didn't have to wait long and two cracking plates of food appeared. The Ham was exceptional and no short measures here! The hand cut Ham nearly covered the plate and it was delicious. The eggs perfect with runny yolks as requested. I said to Shea that I noticed Colcannon on the wall menu and enthused about it saying next time we were there I would have Sausages & Colcannon. The simple dish was perfect! Then Shea appeared with a plateful of Colcannon and Eggs 'on the house!'PERFECT!! We had a delicious Afternoon Tea at The Grocer Chef today. A lovely selection of sandwiches, cakes and scones in a beautiful setting. Highly recommended.

Can't fault the service and the food was exceptional. The size of the portions incredible. Not sure we needed the starters. The plates on tables around us just looked amazing. Well done all.
