Had the most amazing Sunday lunch carvery yesterday. Wonderful old village pub, great atmosphere, good service, and the food was delicious. A choice of 4 meats then as much veg, yorkshire puds and gravy as you wanted. All fresh and beautifully cooked with so much flavour, what a find. loved it and will definitely be back.

Great venue, proper English carvery roast, choice of 4 meats (lamb, gammon, pork, chicken) and all the accompanying traditionals ie. Yorkshires, stuffing, crackling!! Really enjoyed it, fab value and friendly welcome. Will be going again and spreading the word! Typical English Sunday lunch, loved it.

The Rose and Crown serves the best Sunday lunch for miles around. The landlord, does the cooking, carving and masterminds the serving. Ĺots of delicious vegetables, Yorkshire puds and the best gravy ever make the meal very satisfying. There are home-made puddings too and coffee or tea to round it all off. This is a brilliant village pub, full of character and very welcoming but if you want to enjoy a 'Sunday Best', remember to book to avoid the disappointment of being unable to find a free table.

We went for the Sunday Carvery. This was our first visit to the Rose and Crown. Meal was excellent. They were very busy so there was some waiting. They did apologise when we needed to wait and the service was good. They were very friendly. The meal was excellent. I had beef and lamb and my husband had beef and pork. The meat was cooked very well and everything was hot. Would highly recommend.

After visiting back in December we couldn’t wait to try the Cavery which was a choice of lamb, gammon, pork or chicken and all the delicious vegetables and extras you could ever need. For £12.95 this was an absolute bargain as well as delicious and Shae and the team were hilarious and entertaining as always. Thanks

We arrived too late for the carvery on Sunday; in fact the landlord was closing up! But we could not have been made more welcome - the landlord/chef set about putting up two roast dinners for us (we’d driven hundreds of miles returning from holiday) that were delicious and hearty! What a lovely pub and friendly landlord!

We had driven across from Kettering, after a trip involving the Yorkshire moors. We got there at 11.50, so parked up with another car waiting for the place to open. At around 12.00, the 'owner' turned up and said they had a private party. We had been sitting there for 10 mins and when I asked if we could at least use the toilets he refused. I tried to ask him about the next local place, but he seemed more interested in trying to sort out parking arrangements. I challenged him on his attitude and gather from another local pub that he is known!! It is extremely unlikely that I will be in the area again, but his attitude must go on record!

I had a very brief visit to this pub. We walked in, asked if they had any vegetarian options, were told they did not and so left again. I was surprised, I can't remember the last time I was told there were no veggie options in a UK pub, and it says veggie friendly in the trip advisor description. There were no other local pubs so we drove home hungry.

I really wanted to like this pub but found it to be quite average. The owner was unfriendly on the phone whilst taking our booking, it is not dog friendly and the Sunday roast is average (the gravy in particular was not very pleasant). Visited with two friends on a Thursday night - Shea welcomed us warmly, and let us know that the England football match would be on TV that night in the bar. He offered to move us into a quieter area if we preferred, but we wanted to stay close to the lovely open fire!I had the Irish stew, and it was genuinely one of the most delicious meals I've ever had in a pub. Tender lamb falling off the bone, tasty vegetables and gravy and - best of all - mashed potato. Clare tucked into her regular burger & chips, Janice enjoyed the amazing spaghetti and meatballs. Based on previous visits, we also shared a side order of chips, which should be awarded some sort of prize :-)Looking forward to coming back later in the month for the quiz.

We have been coming here for a drink for about 6 months now and love the pub, atmosphere and friendly landlord. Decided to try it for food for the first time tonight and was not disappointed. Food was very tasty and very reasonably priced. I had the Caesar salad which was very good. They weren’t afraid to add the anchovies that should be in a Caesar salad, so many places give you a rather bland version because they are afraid of the anchovy. My husband had the homemade burger which again was very tasty and finished it off with a knickerbocker glory. I had a coffee with a mint club biscuit , a very nice touch. We will definitely be back for both drinks and food. Wish we lived closer so we didn’t have to drive and we could stay for longer.

We called into The Rose & Crown today for a quick lunch and were not disappointed! The owner Shea, a great loss to Dublin, served our drinks and my wife quizzed him about the ham. He assured us that he cooked the hams himself so we wouldn't find better! We both chose Ham, Eggs & Chips. We didn't have to wait long and two cracking plates of food appeared. The Ham was exceptional and no short measures here! The hand cut Ham nearly covered the plate and it was delicious. The eggs perfect with runny yolks as requested. I said to Shea that I noticed Colcannon on the wall menu and enthused about it saying next time we were there I would have Sausages & Colcannon. The simple dish was perfect! Then Shea appeared with a plateful of Colcannon and Eggs 'on the house!'PERFECT!! The only regret is that the Rose & Crown is a good half hour from home but nevertheless we will be back very soon! Keren & John.

The food we had was delicious - pork and crackling with Yorkshire pudding, and lightly fried squid. Staff were attentive, to the point of offering an extra Yorkshire pudding half way thorough- which as a Northerner I had to turn down, simply because the first one was perfect and they are the size of a small planet!! The vegetables were well roasted and the side steamed greens retained their crunch and taste. Well done! Easy to find, large carpark and a decked area that would be perfect for sundowners... BUT it became so apparent why. The landlord came from the kitchen and we asked if it was ok to sit in the bar with our dogs (4 dogs)? His reply was "Well, no I usually accept 1 dog & not 10!". We replied that it was actually 4 dogs and you do specify that you are a dog friendly pub that's the reason for walking for 45 mins. Booked in advance for family birthday & celebration and very disappointed and won't be visiting here again. VERY basic menu - choice of scampi, sausages, chicken lasagne or egg & ham all served with chips and peas. Freezer to fryer food with no cooking skills needed to serve this mediocre menu. Feeling foolish now for recommending this venue to my family for a celebratory meal when the food was so inadequate. The reason we chose this pub was because we had a good meal here last weekend which is why we chose to come again but we were told there were no steaks on the menu despite them being advertised on the boards outside and giving them a weeks notice of our booking. A great example of what is rapidly becoming an endangered species, the village pub. Food is excellent and always well presented. Plenty of choice (vegetarian options continue to be a rarity, but it is always possible to negotiate with the chef). This is our local pub, it isn't very fancy just a traditional local but they do a good Sunday lunch. It does get very busy on Sunday's so you need to book or risk not getting your choice of meat. Each table is called up in turn, you help yourself to vegetables and the landlord serve your choice of meat. I had chicken wrapped in bacon and it was excellent. The portions are generous and the meat good quality with lashings of gravy available! Not the most luxurious surroundings but good hearty food.

Visited here during the 6 nations and had a really welcoming atmosphere and great family feel to it. Near full time the landlord offered free chips to everyone watching the game which was a lovely touch. One of my favorite pubs I've been to for a while and will visit again

I have visited this pub several times since my previous review (March 2015) and called in again with friends 'on the off chance'. The landlord had seen us arriving in the car park, and had immediately reserved a good table for us - how's that for service! Unfortunately, all the fish and chips had gone, but the delicious Irish Stew was available, with home made soda bread. This pub isn't trendy, by any means, but the food is good, and everyone is friendly and attentive. Be advised - the landlord chooses and cooks the food fresh, and not from frozen or leftovers, so popular dishes may go quickly. If you want the fish and chips with homemade batter, don't get there too late.

From the moment you walk in to this country pub you feel at home, greeted by the chef and landlord himself who immediate makes you feel welcome. We had the carvery the roast lamb was delicious and the vegetables are freshly prepared with plenty of choice. A really lovely atmosphere and all the staff are so friendly, it's also very competitively priced. A real gem of a pub and excellent value for money.

Decided to try a little village pub for a Sunday lunch and what a fantastic choice we made. A genuine warm welcome upon arrival from the bar staff and the landlord. We knew straight away that this was going to be nice. Good sized portion of food, so you wont be hungry after. The relaxed atmosphere reminded me of a typical Irish village pub. Well done all of you. We will be back.

Well what a great little pub! Shea and staff really accommodating and made me a cup of tea (even though Shea said it's a pub not a cafe ;)) roaring fire and plenty of room to sit and chat. Had a bowl of chips as a little snack - delicious! The menu looks great and really well priced - Thank you, Shea - see you soon

This is a very welcoming local village pub with parking and an 'elevated garden', if you fancy a bit of a climb.

We have eaten at The Rose and Crown on several occasions and have always been impressed with the atmosphere and friendliness of Shae and his staff.Sunday lunch is just like Mother used to make with meat cooked to perfection, crunchy roast potatoes and lots of deliciously vegetables and the gravy that brings the whole dish together. A real treat.

We enjoyed a very nice carvery lunch with a wide choice of vegetables and three beautifully cooked meats. The staff were cheerful and helpful. Open fire in pleasant rustic country pub. What more could you want for under ten pounds?

Excellent, dog friendly old fashioned style pub! The landlord and all his team of staff are very friendly and efficient. This was an ideal meeting place being a halfway point, close to the A34, between Southampton and Bicester. We met our friends there today and all enjoyed a delicious carvery with a choice of chicken breast wrapped in bacon, lamb or pork with a good selection of potatoes and an assortment of vegetables, all beautifully cooked. As the meals are very reasonably priced and the atmosphere within the pub is very relaxing, it is obviously a popular meeting place and I would advise booking. We shall be returning!!!

We recently had some friends stay whom booked a table in the pub for us all. On arrival we were asked to move to a different table which whilst larger was not as pleasant and hidden around the corner. The landlord seemed slightly happier but still does not welcome guests appropriately or makes you feel welcome. The food was slightly better than before but still greasy. Sadly the hygiene standards are not to our liking. A slight improvement on previous visits but won't be going back any time soon. The are plenty of surrounding village pubs with lovely landlords and locals and importantly the cleanliness and food standards are not even questioned.

I travel from the US to this area for work on occasion, and never miss a chance to visit this place. It is small and quaint, but not phony. The meals are surprisingly good for such a small place, and the cook (who is also the owner, I believe) clearly takes pride in his work. There is a good variety in the meal choice - though typically one only has 6 or so options. Last night I had the lamb cutlets with mashed potatoes and vegetables (broccoli and asparagus): standard (good) potatoes and veggies, and the cutlets were very good, with a nice light gravy with hints of mint. Taken with a couple of pints, this was, as always, a very enjoyable break from work!

A very pleasant cafe, well looked after and with a good range of well-priced lunch options. It was a glorious June afternoon, so my friend and I ate out on the patio area. Would recommend.
