It was a wonderful 90th birthday dinner. The food was really lovely. The only slight spoiler was that the wine didn't arrive with the main course so we had to wait a bit. Otherwise I would say it was a really great evening and the staff was lovely.

Lovely country pub. I have been a number of times but first time for Sunday lunch. Both my wife and I are vegetarian so had the celeriac main and a portion of sides. Overall food was plain in taste and small portion size, compared to the ample meat dishes which my friends had. Tomato starter was nice and the desserts were all sensational. Outdoor loos were cold and wet, unnecessary for a gastro pub, needs an upgrade

Underwhelming. Service was slow, the menu uninspiring, the food portions embarrassing and considering it's June the choice from the market kitchen non-existent. If you are going to offer standard pub grub, price it accordingly. If you are going to position yourself as a market garden, inspired gastro pub deliver it. The vegetarian choice was spectacularly awful and lazy.

AVOID ON A BUSY SUNDAY. Our recent visit to the WH wasn't a good experience, which was such a shame as it was for our 40th wedding anniversary. we've been before and had received excellent service, but on this occasion it was lacking in many areas. Table not ready, not a big problem. Taken to our table, 20 minute wait for our order to be taken, inc drinks, we were then told our starters might come out before our drinks. We've now been waiting 30 mins. Starters arrive, salmon 3 chunks, very nice but very small. Terrine arrives with 2 very small sourdough slices which were rock hard we had to order bread from the children's menu to eat the terrine with. Mains arrive teaspoonful of cold spinach, 2 rock hard potatoes, 2 slices of apple!! and no crackling as advertised, they'd we run out ! had to order cauliflower cheese to bulk it out. Pork was delicious. Vegan main 1 slice of aubergine with a topping the 2 Vegans paid £40 for a slice of aubergine and some tomatoes. Absolute rip off!! Then they were going to charge us for eating the cake my daughter in law had eaten, because we didn't have pudding, we didn't have pudding cos there was no vegan option on the menu, but were told after they did a vegan mousse. They did waive the charge and we were allowed to eat our own cake!!! We won't be going back!!

We recently visited the White Hart for the excellent value, Wednesday Dinner Club. The starter was the salt and pepper squid. It was beautifully presented and tasted absolutely delicious. We followed it with the signature pork. It did not disappoint! It was perfectly cooked and superbly presented with the long stick of crackling topping it off beautifully. We couldn’t resist the incredible dessert menu too, we had a deconstructed cheesecake, which finished the meal off wonderfully. A first class dining experience, in a beautiful building, with excellent service.

Went for dinner with a friend. I'm veggie and ordered the red cabbage ragu gnocchi. Was so, so disappointing. I basically had a bowl of chopped red cabbage with a little garnish of gnocchi on top. I never leave food but left most of it. Had to order a bowl of chips on the side to keep me going. I paid £20 for a bowl of cabbage basically (plus unplanned for chips as dinner was so awful). Lovely setting inside but very let down by the food. Very cheeky to charge so much for cabbage too!

Restaurant was lovely, beautifully decorated and loved the atmosphere. I am afraid I would have to say inspector (assessor) for a Michelin rating would have been disappointed with the Belly of Pork dried out and toughish and rolled up like a joint of breast of lamb, crackling was a wand that would have broken teeth and tasted like 'pork scratchings'. Why do this?? Others enjoyed their fish and chips! Perhaps it was just a bad choice??

I was a regular customer at the White Hart back in its glory days of the late 1970's but then the ownership changed and, like so many other pub/restaurants, it went down hill. I've looked in occasionally since in the hope that one of the succession of new owners has managed to turn the clock back. One such visit was quite recently with my wife. Walking through the door, the White Hart just oozed ambience and expectation. It was also pleasantly warm for a country pub in winter (we recently suffered the White Horse at Woolstone with no heating in the bar whatsoever when the outside temperature was -2 deg C!). We glanced at the pumps on the bar and were delighted to see out favourite beer, "Doom Bar". We have drunk many pints of this ale but none ever tasted like this one. More an IPA than the full bodied beer we were expecting. From then on our dining experience went downhill. The menu was limited so we both opted for the roasted belly of pork. Unfortunately the dish we were presented with was poorly conceived and badly executed. We were expecting a succulent piece of tender meat, covered in crackling and oozing juices. Unfortunately we were presented with a largish, dry, tough, overcooked, rolled piece of pork with a single speer of crackling the diameter of a piece of spaghetti. The menu did not mention vegetables except carrot so, at the time of ordering I asked the waiter if the pork came with any green vegetables. He responded that it came with spinach. Spinach and carrots must be very expensive in Fyfield because each serving included just one juvenile carrot and half a mouthful of spinach. As for the potatoes, these must be in short supply as each plate supported 4 sugar cube sized offerings. So much for a healthy diet! We paid the not insignificant bill and left, very disappointed in receiving such a disappointing meal in such lovely surroundings.

Our inaugural dining experience at The White Heart in Fifield surpassed all expectations, instantly earning its place as our absolute favorite. From the moment I called to inquire about a reservation, the staff's kindness stood out. They thoughtfully asked if there was a special occasion, and I shared that my girlfriend and I were celebrating our fifth kiss anniversary. To our delight, upon arriving at our table, a heartfelt congratulations note awaited us – a charming and unexpected touch that set the tone for the evening. The culinary journey that followed was nothing short of extraordinary. The Nduja croquettes, Smoked mackerel pâté, Slow-roasted belly of Kelmscott pork (an outstanding signature dish), and the Roasted haunch of fallow deer were not only exquisite but also presented with artful precision on our plates. To cap off our meal, we were surprised with a couple of delectable complimentary brownies, a sweet gesture that truly made our night. Our cocktails were not only visually appealing but also a perfect harmony of flavors. The service throughout our dining experience was characterized by genuine friendliness, adding to the overall positive atmosphere of the evening. Connie and I are already eagerly anticipating our next visit to indulge in more of the delightful offerings at The White Heart in Fifield! We will make sure to go back on a Wednesday night to try the White Hart's set menu ! Thank you!

Having had a few unforgettable Christmas meals at the atmospheric White Hart, disappointment this year and new plans in 2024…. The food used to be as good as any in a gastro pub in the area. This year though felt like an average Sunday roast (at top restaurant prices). To be put in the pub dining area backing into a big group of Sunday drinkers perched on the edge of our table, and told that we had missed the restaurant area because that was first come first served was disingenuous… when we booked in September they made the point of telling us we were one of the first bookings. At £160 per head very underwhelming - some good memories from years gone by but unfortunately no more

I think an English roast should be a simple thing with a very plain starter. The menu was short and seasonal, full marks for that, but in execution the dishes were busy for a country pub, scattered with cubes of this and that. Prices reasonable, our meat eaters got decent helpings of pork and the kitchen were all prepared for our vegan. In retrospect I wish we had looked more carefully at the cheese desserts as they appeared well thought out. I'd go again but probably not for Sunday lunch.

Game Night At The White Hart We love the White Hart and have been regular customers for more than a decade. The ‘problem’ is that it’s tricky to come up with new ways to write a review, because they are consistently fabulous. We’ve seen the front of house staff change over the years (we miss seeing you Sarah) but what stays constant is the ability of the team to be friendly, professional and welcoming. Kay obviously puts a lot of effort into building and training the team, and it shows. Last night was a particularly lovely atmosphere by the hard working staff. So now to the tricky part, how to share the experience we had in such a way to give it justice. This Game Night tasting menu was one of the top tasting menus we’ve had anywhere, and we’ve had some tasty treats on our travels. The Rabbit won tons with cider apple hoi sin left us wanting to lick the dishes! We didn’t, but we might have if we’d be sat at a more discreet table! Pithiviers are on lots of menus at the moment, we had some in Barcelona just last week and they featured on Bake Off the week before, but the Venison hot pot version that was served up to us at The White Hart was the tastiest we’ve had this season. The pastry was flakey and crisp, the venison was seasoned to perfection and perfectly just moist, what blew us away was the tangy sharp mustard gel. Such a treat alongside a miso roasted carrot that was so very good, and I don’t even care much for carrots usually, if they all tasted this lush I’d be growing a whole crop. Next came the Salt-aged Mallard, duck faggot and accompanying elements, this plate was delicious. I adore duck and this was served exactly the way I love it, so much flavour. The whole meal would have been a success if we’d have stopped there. But no, at The White Hart the desserts are going from strength to strength over the last months and this menu took things to a new height. An Almond Tuille filled with the most delicious soft white chocolate ganache managed to hold the delicious flavour and yet not be too sweet, marinated blackberries and apple sorbet was such a refreshing contrast and combination of flavours I’d be happy to have it every visit for a year, so delicious. Then there was a second course of desserts, did I mention how much I love desserts! This was quite lush, a gingerbread mousse with a purée and a caramel and chocolate ice cream which was devoured as though it was the first plateful of the evening. Just when you think you can’t possibly find a space for anything more they brought out a plate with a simple Sloe Gin and Blackberry Jelly, the flavour of which lingered on my tongue way after we got home. As we left we were asked if we’d enjoyed our meal, my answer was that there was only one thing that could have been improved, that would be if our home was within walking distance or if there were rooms upstairs that we could have retired to. All for an extremely reasonable price too, wish we could have partaken of the wine flight but one of us had to drive. So Mark and Kay and all your wonderful team in the kitchen and front of house, thank you all for giving us a great menu, evening and experience, our expectations were high and you pushed the bar even further. With all our best wishes Libby & Jason

As this review is honest, I'll start from the positive points: - The atmosphere was very cosy, it felt nice & toasty as there was a big fireplace, the interior was lovely decorated and the whole place gave a good historical vibe. - The food was very delicious - although their menu is not so big, they surely have their signature meals. Now, moving to the not so positive: - We have ordered two mains and one was Roast rump for my husband - the meal comes with some sides including Duck fat potatoes - they were missing and placed into my meal instead. It might seem just a small mistake but lets all admit it does let you down when they charge for the mains between £22 and £35 (Roast rump was £32). - We have opted to pay by cash and were brought a piece of a paper receipt on its own - no check holder? Okay, I have reviewed the payment and prepared the money. Nobody came to our table during an appropriate time period so we had no choice than to go to the bar. At the bar, I was asked do I need a change and how much do I need! I see this place has a big number of 5-star reviews and I wish I could rate it higher than I did. I strongly advise the owners to provide more training for your staff as it is obvious they don't know how to deal with those nowadays rare cash transactions and sincerely wishing this restaurant all the best.

The food was absolutely incredible, and for the standard being given was also a bargain. The staff were all so nice and the wait times for everything ordered were great. What was really impressive was that even seemingly rather mundane options on the menu has been taken to a whole other level of creativity that we couldn’t have ever imagined ourselves. Seriously impressive! To top it all off, the owners left a birthday card and the staff also brought out a final treat at the end to say happy birthday. A fabulous place to have lunch or dinner! Mark and the team are incredibly welcoming and the food is delicious too. Has to be the best eatery in the area and would highly reccomend it to anyone! We'll be back very soon!

This was an impromptu lunchtime visit for two people. I popped into the bar to ask whether they might be able to accommodate us for lunch and the barman said that they would squeeze us in. It seemed really busy, with almost every table taken. We sat in the bar, and the waitress quickly came and took our order. Whilst the two course lunch menu looked appealing, we chose from the a la carte menu and were delighted with our choices. The belly pork was amazing, as was the steak. Desserts were fabulous too. Cappuccinos came with lovely chocolate brownies but sadly we were too full to even attempt them. Fabulous food, a warm welcome, what's not to like here?

This is a lovely setting for a pub, it's lovely inside with a nice atmosphere. The food for me was average, we had the mezze starter boards which I thought were expensive for what was on them. We ordered the fish and chips for our mains which again, I didn't think was anything special, pretty much what you get in any pub but the peas were nice and the homemade tarte sauce I thought was very nice. I didn't enjoy the Mille feuille for dessert, too sickly and no crunch to it. Personally, I thought this was a nice place to enjoy lunch but overall, it was average, HOWEVER, I did think it was very expensive for what it was. £16.25 for a GLASS of wine. The staff were very pleasant but I agree with another review on here that the service was slow and we were there at lunchtime when it was not overly busy.

Lovely building and great service. High quality food, quite pricey. Delicious sharing boards. Menu perhaps a little limited if you were to go regularly as it doesn't seem to vary much.

Loved this place. Oak beamed Gastropub with vaulted dining area roof ( and upper gallery with a couple of tables) Prices on the high side for this type of eatery..but frankly worth every penny. Chef superb , the presentation of food , stunning. Defo going back.

Outstanding food, impeccable service, and a divine environment. I cannot fault this establishment on any part of its food, service or the building. Ridiculously good food served in a 16th century building by highly trained polite staff…… what’s not to like …. Nothing ! Frankly if you have not used this gem on your doorstep you are a fool !

Went here for an anniversary meal and overall had an excellent experience so no major complaints. Just a couple of things that would just push it to perfection. Had the antipasti sharing board for the starter, wasn’t to my tastes at all. Just didn’t blow me away for the price and how it sounded on the menu I would say it was very average. Would have benefitted from some olives or fruit in my opinion. Pork belly for main which was beautiful, so tender and not fatty at all. Would have liked some apple sauce because even though the pork was delicious I just love the flavour combination, however didn’t really get much opportunity to ask as service was a bit slow for my liking. Although I don’t like staff all over when I’m eating I felt like the visits to the table were a bit infrequent and while I appreciate it was probably a busy Saturday night I felt like it would have been nice to have a bit more of a look in. The staff were very friendly and polite however I did have to keep prompting them to come over when I wanted the bill etc or wanted to order another drink etc etc. Shared a sticky toffee pudding, was tasty but extremely sweet. Got a lovely surprise at the end of the meal which made me smile. Overall excellent but not quite perfect. Thanks

Fantastic 2 year Anniversary experience with my partner at the White Hart; we even got a lovely card and the staff made us feel special which was great stuff. We asked about the history of the building, and received a very consciousness response from our server. Really yummy food, quality products used and attentive, slick service - making very good value for money! The food comes from local suppliers and their garden kitchen and this shines through the dishes. If I may I would say that while the Malbec & Bordeaux wine selection was flavourful I would kindly suggest taking a look to see what else could be offered at this price point. However, good value and felt inclined to leave a nice tip. 😀

We had an outstanding lunch comprising tasty local food (e.g. Cottswolds roasted lamb) and some twists on classics (Hash brown cooked with duck fat). The drinks selection on offer was good and the service was professional, friendly and down to earth. As far as I am concerned this is the best restaurant in Oxfordshire I had lunch in during the past five years by a great mile and quite a lot of other venues could learn a lot from the White Hart and the team.

Lovely pub, fantastic food and great service. Unlike most restaurants these days, they dont have a mandatory service charge, which is refreshing! I had the nduja croquettes, roast lamb and a very well balanced chocolate marquise with liquor soaked cherries and some sort of coulis - not too rich, very tasty!

Receptionist on the phone is not very nice at all, sort it out. I don't appreciate being hung up on when I'm in the middle of talking, disgusting.
