I honestly cannot recommend this pub/restaurant enough. The pub itself is attractive the food is absolutely superb and the service that we got from the very charming landlord and his second in command (his equally charming son!) was just right! Go and try it!!!

Arranged to meet old friends here. A warm welcome by the landlord and staff Gin and tonic served in nice bowl glass. A definite plus. Nice pint of beer. Spoilt for choice with the menu. Lots of good options. My wife had the slow cooked belly pork. It came with a very decent piece of crackling. I chose the minted lamb pie. Our friends had the calves liver and the spaghetti primavera. The spaghetti was definitely spring like with asparagus and mange tout. Good size portions. We still had room for dessert. The apple and gooseberry was both inventive and delicious. The three scoops of ice cream served an a sundae glass was great. A fabulous lunch.

A lovely pub. We have eaten here several time. It never disappoints. The food is really good. Honest pub food, done to a high standard. Always a good choice of daily specials . The Sunday roasts are very popular and for good reason. The fish of the day is also always excellent. However the stand out here without a doubt are the very friendly and professional staff. Nothing is ever a bother to them. Everything is delivered with a smile. Thank you Stewart and your lovely hard working team. Don't change a thing.

This is an outstanding gastro pub. The rooms are in an annexe at the side away from the main road - we had the window open and slept well. Rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated and exceptionally clean and really comfortable with waterfall showers The breakfast is very tasty. Amazing granola and fresh fruit and lovely juice. Cooked options are well prepared but perhaps would benefit from a couple of additional options and coffee in a caffietere would improve at this price point. Dinner is delicious using fresh local ingredients. We liked the smaller portion options. Front of house also very professional. Would we return & absolutely... Oh and a great location for the Thames Path.

Hello, me and my friends came in for dinner yesterday and I just wanted to leave you a good review as everything was just perfect. Initially we phoned up for a table and was told you were fully booked. A young man called Callum took my number and told me he’d call me back if anything came available. Around 10 minutes later he phoned me back to say there was now a table free and he’d booked one for us which I thought was really kind of him and he really went out of his way for us. The staff were super friendly on arrival which made us feel warm and welcomed and I was most happy when Callum came over and introduced himself and told us he’d be looking after our table! He was professional but had a great sense of humour. He accommodated to all our requests with ease and really made sure we were looked after. The food we had was just unbelievable. I had the steak and ale pie which just tasted so freshly baked and the value for money was great as the portion sizes were big! The whole service we received from everyone was great but especially Callum! When we tried to tip him personally and told him to take a £10 note for himself his response was “I wouldn’t want to do that, my colleagues have all worked extremely hard alongside me today especially the chefs so I’ll make sure it goes in the tip jar”. What a lovely, honest and respectful young man you have and he is a great asset to the business! We will definitely be back for some more tasty food soon, thanks all!

Excellent menu, just needs more steak options 😋 Had the 2x4 Fillet and it was superb. Starter was Korean BBQ pork, also very tasty. No complaints whatsoever, went early Saturday evening (6:45 ish) and had great service even when they got busier. Would love to see a 10oz rump or sirloin option too, they grilled the fillet to perfection and now I want more.

Great wine selection and the food was absolutely delicious. I had the chicken supreme. I could have licked the plate! Mum had the chicken salad and it was a very generous portion with a beautiful dressing. Only suggestion is to have a bit of background music to create a more relaxed atmosphere. They might do this in the evenings. We’ll definitely be back to find out.

Ourselves and another couple stayed from Monday 25th - Thursday28th September, we booked bed and breakfast. Breakfast gave a good choice and was cooked to perfection. The evening meals were so good, (with great variety of choice and everyday specials) that we came back to the hotel to eat each evening. Testament to this was that the place was full of diners each night we were there. We have nothing but good reviews for this little gem of a place. The new hosts had taken over the business about seven months ago, and they and all of their staff were extremely helpful, provided an outstanding service, and were cheerful with nothing too much trouble for them. The rooms were comfy and absolutely spotless. The accommodation is a separate building at the side of the public house, an added bonus it was very quiet in the nights aiding a good nights sleep. In our room was an information book with a section for guests to write reviews in. Every review for the last seven months in our room`s book was excellent from people from UK and a number of countries abroad too. Indicating to us their high standards we experienced are maintained continually. We found the Talbot Inn is an ideal spot for exploring the area, with easy access to Oxford, Blenheim Palace, Woodstock Village and other tourist venues. Plenty of free parking also. We would highly recommend this delightful place.

The manager is also the cook, and maintains a very high standard. Both lunch and dinner were unpretentious and not expensive but perfect: wide-ranging ingredients superbly cooked and presented. Since I was a walker, the manager took the trouble to arrange a complicated bag transfer to Oxford Station via a local taxi company, This place is well-run and well worth a detour.

What can I say - this place was just amazing! We arrived late afternoon after a day out in the Cotswolds with friends. We had booked 2 rooms which were very reasonably priced and included breakfast. Check in was simple, rooms were very comfortable, shower was great. We then went down for dinner and the menu choices (especially the specials) were just superb. The manager could not have been more accommodating as we wanted to alter the menus slightly. The food was to die for! Great choice of wines and beers as well. We had a lovely nights' sleep and went down to a fantastic full English breakfast with continental as well and a choice of juices with as much as you could eat. Again, all of the staff are just amazing. Will most definitely recommend and stay again - wonderful place to stay especially close to Oxford and the Cotswolds (half hour from Diddly Squat Farm).

Pleased to see our local opening again and that the new owners have done a good job We have now been twice for food and on other occasions for drinks but unfortunately the vegetarian offer is very limited and so we will not be going again for food until there is a big improvement in the variety of food to meet the needs of vegetarians. I believe this business is charging full price to customers, with the Dine Out to Help Out scheme and may be claiming the government pay out. They display the scheme's sign and told me verbally that they were doing it. However, we were charged full price on everything, as they said it was only £10 off, when you spend over £20. You had to pay at the point of ordering and so were charged full price for coffees on arrival. Then full price for mine and my colleague's meals. Also full price for our disabled client, who paid separately. So for each of these 3 transactions, we paid full price and the bar man stuck to his reason, that the scheme was only for a £10 discount, on orders over £20, which we hadn't had, due to 3 separate transactions. He refused to budge when we explained how the scheme works and said he was doing what the manager had told him. There was no manager on duty, for me to take the matter up with. My colleague rang the next day and spoke to a woman. My colleague asked to speak to a manager and was told there was no manager on duty (again) but she would pass her to a more senior colleague. This man had a slightly different story, that the offer was only if you had a 3 course meal, from the menu. Nobody had told us that at any point and certainly not at the start, when I'd specifically asked were they doing the scheme. Nor at the end, when I'd realised what my colleague had paid and went to dispute the bill. This man told my colleague, when she disputed his understanding of the scheme, that this was how his manager had told him to do it and that every restaurant/pub were doing the scheme differently. So 2 different reasons had been given to us and when my colleague told me the response, I rang back straight away and spoke to Joanne, a member of bar staff. I explained again what had happened and that we've checked the government site and told her how the scheme operates. I then explained that unless a manager could explain their error and refund us for the coffees and subsequent meals, at the appropriate discount, then I could only presume that the business is acting fraudently, by charging full price to customers, then claiming half the amount back from the government. I gave them the opportunity to rectify the issue and Joanne said, at 1.30pm, that she'd contact her manager and that someone would ring me within the hour and she would ring herself, if she failed to contact the manager. Nobody has rung me and I've been ringing them at intervals, between 2.45pm and 5pm and nobody has answered. I don't believe that this inn has the right to display a Dine Out to Help Out promotion, or to assure customers, when asked, that they are doing it and then charge full price. It concerns me that they may be receiving half the amount back, from the government, by submitting their receipts. It may well turn out to be an innocent misunderstanding of the scheme on their part but I doubt it, as when you look up the scheme, it's actually very simple. And they still haven't bothered to contact me. So at best, they have very poor communication and non existent customer care and at worst, could be behaving fraudently. It has been reported.

A 'curate's egg' of a review. My first impression, on arriving after a long journey, was of a classic old inn with a very welcoming reception staff and, a rarity these days, real ale served on gravity from barrels behind the bar. I had booked a budget room and it had been made clear to me that this meant sharing a shower room and toilet with an adjoining room. So far so good and my room was small but very clean and comfortable. It would have cost the owners so little to have made sure that a bathroom tap was not constantly dripping and the plug properly secured. The toilet seat could have been firmly fixed to the pedestal rather than having a mind of its own when in use. The light over the shaving mirror might have been replaced by one that worked. And, worst of all, the carpet was utterly filthy. Such a small room - a cheap offcut would have sufficed.

Moored up nearby on The Thames, popped in for afternoon drink. Lots of screaming children running around: not my thing, but the pub explained it was a member of staff's sister's birthday, and it was about 4.00pm, so fair enough. Returned for evening meal, and it was just average. Several checks made to see what chef could do to cater for Mrs Traveller b32's gluten free requirements (which is better than guessing and getting it wrong). Burger and fish platter. It was ok, but exciting it wasn't. Attractive decking area for a warm evening drink, but the pub had the feel of a chain pub and so didn't reach out and grab us. Very dog friendly in bar area and there is a dog watering station.

Happy to leave a tip for friendly attentive service. Food was perfectly ok pub grub, not top gastronomy but I don't think they claim to be either. Couple of nice beers too. Good, honest pub.

We were attending a wedding in the area on Saturday and looking for somewhere to eat on Friday evening. I emailed to request a menu and within minutes I was emailed this across, then booked a table by email which again was responded promptly.

We’re regulars, because the beer from the barrel is good. The menu has been changed, but the soft baps are as good as the crispy baguettes. Perhaps under staffed on this occasion, but we were well looked after. Till next time. Thank you

It’s about a 5 or 6 mile cycle along the Thames from Oxford (cross the river Swinford Lock). Great setting, friendly pub, but brunch just what you’d expect in a hotel I’m afraid - not bad just nothing too exciting.

Good parking facilities, greeted by friendly staff, good selection of drinks, good selection on the menu. Colleague choose pork belly, not the best. My meal was good. Paid £60 each room with breakfast. Room was nice, clean, good facilities. Nice a warm. Breakfast was good, cooked fresh, choice of yoghurts and cereals.

After our booked hotel refused is over our dog we were lucky to find this gem. Very comfortable rooms, lovely views and walk to the Thames. 15 minute drive to Oxford. Adepted breakfasts for our picky kids. Wish we could have stayed longer.

We were staying in a nearby B and B and the Talbot was the only pub within walking distance for an evening meal. Apparently quite popular with the locals and offering good food but couldn’t be further from the truth and service to match.

I Came here for a family/friend gathering. It's a nice pub by the river. Unfortunately a few of the food options had already run out, which limited me, as a vegetarian. There weren't many veggie options but all my family/friends who weren't veggie enjoyed their food a lot!

We were made to fell very welcome indeed by the team at The Talbot, so much so in fact that we abandoned our plans to venture any further into Eynsham for dinner.

Four of us called in at the Talbot Inn for an evening meal whilst travelling. Made very welcome by mein host and his staff. Good food and good beer made for a pleasant evening. Would be happy to call in again should I ever find myself round Eynsham way again.

Called at The Talbot Inn after a busy day sightseeing in Oxford and not being a local didn't know what to expect. I received a warm welcome in this pleasant country pub and found the menu offered more than the usual suspects. My 'summer chicken' was moist and flavoursome and came on a bed of roasted Mediterranean veg with a pretty well made chimichurri sauce so it was a shame about the chips that were the frozen variety. To be fair, decent enough pub grub at a reasonable price that with a bit of tweaking could get have got a 'very good' rating from me.

Very nice lunch time visit.A nice baguette and my friend had soup.Med vegetable she enjoyed as well.Nice Australian Staff.Other people’s food looked most nice. And large generous looking portions.Plenty of car parking. And good bus service.Stop opposite. And stop outside of the pub.Very good disabled toilet.I fully recommend this pub.I will say the food is so fresh. If you are in a hurry it takes a little time to come. But it’s well worth the little wait.Nice scenery outside and there is facilities to sleep as well I noticed.

Enjoyed a really lovely meal yesterday evening at the Talbot. There were 6 of us, we'd booked a table and were pleased we had as the restaurant was fairly full at 7pm. 5 of us ordered fish and chips (it's their Friday special) and the other meal was a chicken and pasta dish. For puds there was a good choice, and together for those of us that had fish and chips plus a pud the cost was £12. Unbelievable!!! The staff were great and the loo's spotless. Cannot recommend the Talbot highly enough.

We have visited the Talbot several times and the main courses are always very good. The service is good and the draft beers also very good. However, the desserts are always a great disappointment and spoil the impression of the restaurant. They are over-priced for what they are and the quality / presentation is always poor. We would suggest enjoying a main course and skipping dessert to avoid disappointment.

Very cosy atmosphere, very good service and staff. The meal was 4 out of 5, pretty good. Good facilities. Also has a water deck over the river, which looked nice, but way too cold for us to sit there in Feb!

Met by a rushed member of staff, that asked us to come to the bar to order drinks before going to our table. There was a dog with people seated at the bar, that barked a lot, but there are also food tables just a couple of feet from the bar.

Came with my family, place looks nice and staff are friendly enough but the menu offered a poor range of vegetarian options and our meals took almost an hour to arrive (there were only 5 of us) Food was oily and in my opinion, overpriced and it also made me ill for a few days. Overall not too impressed, will not be returning.

One of those places that you pass and one that you feel you must go into. Made a special point of booking a table for 4 on a visit to Witney. Done of us were disappointed. Possibly a bit short of waiting staff but they did their best. The staff were friendly and pleasant throughout. Meals were excellent and sizable.

I find it hard to believe that the young lady behaved in the manner that she did. I have been using public houses for over forty-five years and I have never encountered such rudeness and such a lack of respect for a paying customer. 'This table's booked' was her opening line. The words were not spoken softly, they were spat out. I had been at the table for some fifteen minutes. There was no sign to say that the table was reserved. 'Is there another table that is free?' was my meek response. I shall paraphrase her reply...'if you want a seat you'd better go outside' was her forceful response. Rather than start an argument and cause a disturbance to others, I decided to leave.
