The pie of the day was described as boeuf bourginon but although it was a decent pie there were no mushrooms or shallots so really it was a steak pie. Don't be pretentious. Call it what it is. The banana fritters for dessert were presented rather unattractively and they were not deep fried in batter so not really fritters. I mentioned to the server that they were disappointing and why but she looked totally bemused and then came back to tell me they were done in batter. As I was the one eating them I beg to differ. It wasn't an awful meal but really didn't compare favourably with other similar venues in the area.

Visited here for afternoon tea. Welcome was ok, but then we waited for a while to see if there was a free table. Bizarrely no one else was in the cafe and the upstairs service where we were seated was almost unfriendly and you felt you were in the way. When we asked for a spoon for our tea we were greeted with a huff and puff… Gets good reviews elsewhere, but sadly not from us..

The front of this cafe/restaurant is deceiving as once you go inside there is a warren of rooms laid out with tables including a conservatory room which is bright and airy. The decoration is bright and cheerful and spotless. I came here with a friend, it was our first visit. Service is order at front desk with your table number and up front payment, a very friendly helpful guy took our order. Food is bought to your table. There is a huge selection of items, I chose the home cooked macaroni cheese with bacon and garlic bread extra. The macaroni was cheesy, creamy and delicious with a nice crust, a generous serving of bacon and two pieces of ciabatta garlic bread. My friend ordered the small vegetarian all day breakfast which was very generous and perfectly cooked. We were not rushed at all and were going to order desserts but left it a bit late as the place closes at 4pm and we had trains to catch. Staff were frequently cleaning and sweeping after diners left. The toilets were also spotless. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal, thought the price was good for the quality and I would certainly recommend this place as a breakfast and lunchtime venue. There are a couple of steps up to enter so not sure how wheelchair accessible this would be. Great for a family as they do offer a child menu.

Great town pub, I didn't stay but a colleague did and reported a clean, tidy and comfortable room. Good selection of Lagers, Barrel beers, Craft beers Ciders available, well stocked Spirits, all areas covered with alternatives available. Clean tidy bar, lovely old floorboard s and a fire on. Dog friendly, TV's with a selection of sports channels. It was a Monday night visit so not full , I think it's probably very popular on the weekends.

I have been visiting for the past 28 or so years - lovely quaint tearoom - decor not changed at all but this is the way I like it - lovely private garden - I always have the brown fruit scones which are lovely and their welsh rarebit is really tasty - yes its expensive but worth it - no nasties in the food!
