Popped in for lunch following a walk to the Halnaker Windmill. Managed to get the last table available.  I had the "lunchtime" size fish and chips with tartare sauce and mushy peas and my partner had the gammon, egg and chips.  Both were very good. The "lunchtime" size fish and chips was a perfect size. My partner then had the crumble and ice cream and I had a mini version with custard and a flat white coffee. All very good too. Friendly staff and a great menu. A good selection of alcohol free beers. Definitely one to visit again when in the area, would book in advance.

Although I really like this 'pub' (5 stars), the seating arrangement is dreadful. It has a huge restaurant and a very small bar area, so you are stuck if you want to have drinks and snacks rather than a formal meal. I remember that part of the 'restaurant area near the road had stone floor and was treated as if it was part of the bar. They could take down the doors between the bar area and the restaurant area thereby extending the bar round the corner. As it is now, it's difficult to meet people for a drink. No one wants to sit outside in bad weather

Booked for meal before a match against the Angelsey Arms petanque club. Very helpful in coping with several changes to number of people eating. Good choice of food and drink and efficient service to make sure we were ready for the start time of the match. Everyone enjoyed their food and would happily do it again.

Am sad to have to write this but feel compelled to do so after another disappointing visit. Despite living very close to the establishment this is my first visit in about 18 months. I haven’t visited for that amount of time due to issues previously which I won’t go into on this review. Despite this my party really wanted to visit so I thought why not, things can only get better. Sadly that was not the case, long waits for drinks at the bar and when they were served were not in correct glasses, our Guinness was served in a Heineken glass. No huge crime but not the service I would expect. Drinks also very expensive! We tried to order from our table but struggled to get anyone’s attention so back to the bar for another long wait to order food. Once the food arrived after another long wait (we were warned) the portions were tiny and the food rather dry. Vegetables provided were not adequate for 4 but again we couldn’t get attention to ask for more. As I said, I had really hoped things would be better but sadly it was not the case. I am so disappointed as I could walk to this establishment but choose to drive past to others where the food, service and ambience are at the service one would expect for the prices paid.

Had a great meal here on Wednesday which was also superb value due to "Supper Club" where you get 2 courses for £20. We weren't aware of supper club but the waitress brought it to our attention (it's only on Wednesdays) and so saved us a lot of money. Food quality was excellent but the menu is a bit limited for vegetarians although there is a plant based burger. Desserts were especially delicious.

This was our first ever visit to Anglesey Arms, Halnaker just as passing bye. It was fathers day so very busy and obviously hadn't booked anything as it was spur of the moment. Had to wait a while at the bar for service, eventualy we were served by efficient and attentive staff. After asking the chances of ordering a meal we were told yes of course but all tables were booked and would have to be outside in the garden, no problem it was a nice day so we took our menus out with our drinks and picked a table and sat down. After looking through a small but decent choice menu we chose roast chicken with fresh veg, the usual carrots, parsnips, broccoli peas and green beans. After finishing our drinks we saw a lady/waitress running drinks to tables, i approached her to ask if we could order drinks from her, the look she gave us was like something unpleasant she stepped in, "did you book a table!?" obviously we had'nt she then turned her nose up and sauntered off. The meal arrived with rock hard roast potatoes, peas green beans and 2 withered pieces of broccoli - disgusting for over £50 we won't be reccomending or going back. You don't get whats advertised on the menu or anyone to talk about it, i know it was busy but approachable and being available to customers is essentail as far as i'm concerned

The roast chicken was tender and moist, and the roast beef was cooked perfectly. You do need to book as its very popular. Hopefully the Anglesey won't do what many other pubs have done, and mess around with what is a clearly a winning formula.

Whatever you do Do Not order the soup and Welsh rarebit! It must have been highly embarrassing for the waitress to serve such miniscule portions! We received a very small slice of Welsh rarebit and about a tablespoon of soup for £11. When we pointed this out to the waitress she didn't question it, knowing herself how awful it was, and eventually came back with another small bowl each. What we had was very tasty, I couldn't fault that but there was barely enough for a small child! I don't know what the were thinking to serve such a mean amount.

We ordered the chickpea and vegetable soup with welsh rarebit. The soup came out in a snack bowl only 1/3rd full and was gone in 4 small mouthfuls!! With one piece of cheese on sour bread . For 2 soup luches and 2 coffees the bill came to over £30 which we wouldn't mind if we had a decent size portion. We will ill not be going there again for food.

I feel slightly bad writing this review, but I do so in the hope that it maintains its standards, as the previous two occasions we’ve been with family have been utterly incredible. I’ve also written past reviews and gave them top marks. This time felt a little different. It felt as though things were slipping which, when it costs as much as it does for essentially good pub food, needs mentioning. The service, although polite, was so slow. With two small hungry children this became an issue. But most regrettably, hairs in food. One at the bottom of a pile of mash (not ours, was deep down and the wrong colour!) and another in the vanilla ice cream. I’m not sure it would put us off coming back, but maybe think twice about returning for a bit. Other than that the food was immense. The beef short rib to die for!

Pub located in village of Halnaker, around 15 minutes drive from Chichester. Large car park. Extensive menu of largely traditional British dishes. Really traditional/authentic English pub with good selection of local beers. Restaurant is a nice room to one side and back of the pub and there is a great outdoor seating area under a huge stretch tent. Very welcoming and excellent attentive service throughout meal. Some great Bar snacks which you can also have as starters. Crispy belly of pork with a spicy apple sauce was delicious as was a melt in mouth Scotch Egg. Baked Camembert With Rosemary and Blackberries also very good served with Garlic Sour Dough bread. Beef and Ale Pie/parcel full of tender beef in a delicate short crust pastry with an unctuous rich gravy. Chicken Schnitzel also tender and substantial. Very good and reasonable priced wine list with some decent reds in particularly. Great pub restaurant food well worth a visit.

Great atmosphere for drinks. I'd heard the food is hit or miss so deciced to try it with friends. One really enjoyed their food, it was fish and was cooked there. One said their dish was OK, but was a bit of a "ping" meal. However, they were given dried up vegetables with it and when they commented on the fact they looked like they'd been under a heat lamp, instead of getting some fresh veg, the waiter just said they wouldn't charge him for the pint he just ordered, so he still had veg that was dry and going brown at the edges. The third person said that on reflection it was the actually the worst pub meal that they had ever had and used words like "vile".So in conclusion hit or miss. From the other comments it looks like if you choose something they have to cook from scratch then you should have a better meal..... if it doesn't say homemade, then it isn't. I will happily drink here, which is why I gave it 2 stars.

The cheeses were nothing special…. However we weren’t disappointed! Our group of 3 all had different starters from the menu. All were exceptional, beautifully presented but even tastier! Luckily our friend let us share his Southern chicken dish- yummy! Our roasts were absolutely beautiful, spot on! Great portions, so tasty and the side of extra gravy we requested was out of this world to accompany our perfectly cooked roast Beef.We all ordered extra sides ( that we didn’t need! But couldn’t resist)We finished with deserts, I was desperate to try the cheese board which had been recommended by numerous people but sadly didn’t have anyone to share with. The waitress recommended the sticky toffee pudding, a dish that none of us would normally chose, but wow it didn’t disappoint! Our visit was just perfect, the food was the best we have all had for a very long time and we are all big foodies. Our waitress and the service was perfect, sadly can’t name her, but thanks for her great service. The team is clearly extremely well managed and ran so smoothly. My only criticism was we wish we’d managed to come sooner, we are already planning our next visit! This great Pub is just what Chichester needs!

I’ve been a regular of the Anglesey for many years. It has recently changed hands and undergone a full refurb. I have to say, I love the new decor whilst also liking the fact that they haven’t changed the layout. Personal opinion but I really don’t like it when pubs are completely gutted and changed. They are part of history. I have to say, I was a little apprehensive as I got the impression (wrongly) from others that this had really become a ‘food’ pub. The pub always thrived on its diners but one side of the pub always welcomed those just wanting a drink. I was there with my family for a meal but we also wanted to enjoy a few drinks before we ate without any pressure to leave the table. How wrong the rumours were, we were able to enjoy a few sociable drinks as a family in the front bar (whilst others comfortably dined around us) and it was thoroughly enjoyable. Dan (bar manager?) was great and kept us informed as to when we could go to our designated table for our meal and also informed us we could stay where we were if preferred. I was impressed with the service. Once we moved through, the service was excellent, fabulous menu and speedy service. The whole party enjoyed every part of the food and we had a lot of different meals ordered (roasts/steak/burgers) everything arrived together. I often find if some order Sunday roasts and some order ‘off’ the roast menu that there can be issues with timeliness but there were no concerns! We all had a great experience. I knew it was a dog friendly place but wish I’d known dogs could go in all parts of the pub, I left my dog at home as we were eating but if I’d known she was welcome in the dining area I would’ve stayed a lot longer!! Overall a great afternoon and I can’t wait to get back.

The SAME bottle came back to the table.we asked where the glasses of wine had gone that had been taken back with bottle. We were told they’d been poured back into bottle!!!! Really!!!????!!!In the meantime starters arrived….. well…. Chef had obviously used all his culinary skills to open a pack of smoked salmon , a pack a crisp bread and stick it on a plate. Needless to say we called our cab back to take us elsewhere Had been so looking forward to going to the Anglesey after it’s refurbishment. Also let’s hope they don’t get too busy as only one ladies loo.

We decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary here, and I will definitely come back! My husband and I both had the Pork belly roast dinner, and honestly... is the best roast dinner I've ever had! Staff are so lovely and friendly, the pub is absolutely stunning, and the food is amazing. They even gave us an anniversary card, so sweet of them ❤️Thank you very much for a lovely meal and experience!

Pulled beef burger! What a cop out. Cook a lump of beef all day then scrape some of it off with a fork and shove it in a roll and call it a burger! Clearly the chef has never seen a gourmet burger made or even eaten one. Sure making good burgers is difficult,so if you can’t do it properly, don’t have it on the menu. A rare roast beef sandwich would be better. Great starters on the menu. Would be good to have something like a chicken baguette on the menu. Having said all this, it’s a very nice friendly pub. I will return.

Well refurbished with the advantage of large car park and garden area, part of the latter being sheltered. Separate bar and restaurant, good range of drinks and much above average choice of wines by the glass, not just the usual suspects. Excellent friendly greeting by the manager chappy and the lady servers continued this theme. Good menu choice and a fresh fish special, red snapper on our visit which my wife enjoyed. She was rather bemused by her margarita cocktail as this looked and tasted of tomato juice (I had to confirm with a sip) and our most pleasant lady server was able to rectify this so well dealt with, some of the team are probably quite new. My one gripe, a personal one I guess , was the piped pop music fairly intrusive and not I would have thought too suited to the generally more mature clientele of the lunchtime session. Overall though good value for this area.

What a difference - friendly, efficient courteous, fun staff, fresh paint, front door open at last, clean surfaces, fresh paint, lights, garden to front. Whilst on a sunny day trip out, we decided to try and find a pub for a late lunch, whilst on our way home from Sussex to Surrey. We just happened to pass the Anglesey Arms and we were so pleased we decided to stop here. Although it was 2.30pm, we were warmly welcomed. Having both chosen the fish and chips, we only had a short wait before we were presented with the most delicious fish and chips we have had in a very long time. The batter was so light and crispy that I ate every bit, along with the tender fish. The chips were also hot and tasty. I was full but my husband managed a chocolate dessert, which he also enjoyed. The staff were all very friendly and we understand that they also serve Sunday lunches, which we now have to try! Definitely worth the drive and we thought this pub was a real find!

Visited last night with family who are over from The States so wanted to take them somewhere special. The newly refurb'd Anglesey didn't disappoint. Only 10 mins drive from us so we've watched the transformation as we pass over the past months.Great food & just as importantly, great staff ! Friendly barman as we arrived and all the restaurant staff looked happy . So good to see - we've eaten out recently where staff look really stressed & overstretched. It can spoil the whole experience. Both our waiters interacted & were efficient. The garden set up is fab. New menu is really good! Lots to choose from and we six all had starters mains & 2 managed puds so got a good mix of dishes to compare. Everyone was very happy with their choices. Great to find somewhere local that's serving food on a Sunday night too! We'll recommend to friends & we'll be back X

This has apparently only been Re opened for 4 weeks so Some of the staff don’t know the menu yet, some of them don’t know what wines or beers to recommend, somehow this doesn’t matter as it’s a tastefully decorated haven on the Goodwood estate and the well meaning overly young staff compliment the experience……the menu lacks a lot of firm favourites especially chicken but what they do have is very good indeed.Don’t try the neck oil lager it’s dreadful.. which is why I’m glad they only gave me a taster … the garden is enormous and would be perfect for a boules competition, you can bring your dog, children and when it’s sunny it really makes you glad to be in England.

We have driven past this pub many times and never gone in but we were so glad we did. We hadn’t booked but luckily they said they had one table left for us. The menu was really good and our starter and mains were all delicious. Good service too, our waitress couldn’t of been more friendly. The pub itself looks lovely inside and had a nice garden. My only complaint is that it was a bit drafty from the garden door. Thank you guys for a lovely meal highly recommended!

Very clean and decorated with great taste a perfect place for a drink and a meal. We would certainly return if we return to this lovely part of England in the future.

So we arrived, around 3.30pm on a Sunday, so pretty late for a roast, but nevertheless, all good. We asked if the roast was still available which it was.All ordered, all good. Apart from the wait time.We sat at a table outside, then decided to move to the table next to us (under the shade) told a member of staff who said "no worries" - starters came out... To the wrong table, had to call for them to come to the new table, no real problem, starters eaten, all good. Great food. After an hour one of the staff came out & asked if we were waiting on food & proceeded read our order to us & asked if we were on a different table when we ordered & that had aparently confused the kitchen?! The waiter kindly said, no problem, they're plating your food up now.... 20 minutes later the food finally arrives. No complaints there apart from the stingy portion of veg. Some boiled carrots, red cabbage & 1, yes 1 piece of tender stem broccoli between 2... Even the waitress seemed embarrassed about this & got us another portion of veg... Which arrived when we were about to finish the meal. Wasn't the busiest time, perhaps the chef was already looking to clean down & go home! What made it slightly worse was there was other tables around us making similar complaints about the wait time. Overall an OK experience, drinks were great, there was just a very apparent lack of communication between the staff, hopefully this will get better as they've just reopened under new management.

Under new ownership - and what an amazing transformation of this once sad pub.I haven’t visited for a couple of years as it was tired and the food was average. But now the whole pub has been refurbished with beautiful details, plus the garden is very smart with an undercover area.To add to this my husband and I ate there, we enjoyed the olives and prawns for starters which were amazing, followed by the roast beef with the most amazing onion gravy. Then to top it all off we finished with the sticky toffee pudding which was divine and my husband loved the flapjack crumble. There was an amazing choice of beers and wines too.A once dreary pub now brought back to life. Our new local for sure!!!!

It’s been years that this lovely pub has looked unloved, but it’s had a much needed clean up, walls painted, windows cleaned etc etc. Thank goodness. The steak and ale pie with a top and bottom was excellent. Keep it up. The ribeye steak could have been better. Very nice desert.A friendly welcome that’s been missing for many years. Staff excellent. The pub suffers from too small a bar area making it difficult to pop in for a pint. They should have knocked through to the restaurant area (instead of two doors) and had a semi circle bar with more stools and more casual tables. In fact even now more and smaller tables in the bar area would allow more than two parties to sit down. Sitting in the dining area defeats the point of going to a pub. The dining area is big enough to split it into formal dining and pub dining. Outside has been improved but it’s rather odd to have new tables seating 10 or more people. Doesn’t make it easy for a party of 4. Finally, it needs 4 or so tables with umbrellas outside the front door like many other pubs do. It makes it much more welcoming and allows you to watch the amazing cars drive by on their way to Goodwood. It’s great to have this pub back, but the licensee or owner needs to understand what pub goers want. Still work to do.

We popped in without a reservation on a Saturday lunchtime and luckily they had a table for us. The pub was buzzing with happy people, clearly lots of locals too which is always a good sign. We had three courses - hadn’t planned to but the food was just soooo good! The prawn cocktail was the best we’ve ever had, and mains were delicious. OH had sea bass and I had lambs liver. Both served piping hot and with fresh veg. One of my main beefs is when food isn’t hot enough. Not so here, well done Berkeley Arms. The sticky toffee pudding was to die for too. We live 20 mins away but we’ll most definitely be back!

Very disappointed in my Scrambled egg on brown toast, the egg had no taste very pale done in the microwave, and water on my plate made my barely toasted toast wet and soggy. Great pleasant staff. Service good but unfortunately the breakfast was horrible.

We often visit this Greggs whilst shopping in Chichester as their sausage rolls are the best. As I don’t drink dairy milk, in the past I’ve always had soya in little cartons. My husband asked for oat milk (my favourite) and to my pleasant surprise Greggs now offer oat milk as an alternative. So my order was for an Americano with oat milk on the side. My husband also mentioned “on the side”. This is because I don’t take much so need to add it myself. So when the lady served an Americano with oat included (frothed up, yuk) (Since when does an Americano have warm frother milk in it?) I said, no I ordered oat milk on the side. Stroppy cow said she didn’t hear that (we said it twice) and that anyway they don’t serve oat milk on the side. So I’ve paid for a coffee that I can’t drink as it’s too milky. I really expected her to say “sorry madam, let me do another one for you”. I mean, for the sake of customer satisfaction, just pour it away and serve me what I’ve asked for! Is it too much to ask to have oat milk on the side? This is a first for us. Every other coffee establishment we visit serves it cold, and on the side when asked. She has no customer skills at all. A right stroppy cow. We were disgusted.

Have visited before and we came again for a pre theatre lunch. I opted for the tandoori trout which was cooked just right and tasted lovely. My husband had 3 fab sausages in his sausages and mash and said it tasted delicious. Really good service and friendly staff too. We will return on a Friday for the fish and chips deal. Highly recommended.
