We went to the White Horse for a family Sunday lunch and were really impressed with the delicious food and incredible service. Our waitress Cat and the land lady served us and were more than accommodating for us on a busy Sunday afternoon. The fish was beautifully cooked and the veggies were delicious. Will definitely be returning

The pub, bedrooms, food and the staff were all excellent I genuinely cannot fault anything. I would highly recommend The White Horse.

Enjoyed a 'Muddy Paws' overnight stay at The White Horse following their recent refurbishment. The onsite rooms have been done beautifully with very nice little touches such as a cafetiere, digital radio and ours had an adjoining enclosed courtyard which was brilliant for the dog. The pub was admittedly very busy on the Friday evening which did impinge a bit on service (offered a dessert menu but wait staff never returned to find out if we did indeed want a dessert) but other than that we cannot fault our stay. The dog certainly enjoyed the fireplace! Fabulous breakfast and all round great visit!

I had the pleasure of staying at The White Horse Inn, and it was an experience to remember. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the beautiful and comfortable room. It was tastefully decorated, and equipped with all modern conveniences. The inn was wonderfully quiet, providing a peaceful retreat after a day of exploration in the surrounds of Pulborough-Sutton. The real highlight, however, was the inn's restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious! every dish was crafted to perfection with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The service was excellent, with friendly and attentive staff who went out of their way to ensure a pleasant dining experience. Overall, The White Horse Inn is a gem. Whether you're looking for a comfortable stay or a superb dining experience, it delivers on all fronts. Highly recommended!

The white horse has been a family favourite for years but unfortunately we left very underwhelmed this last visit. The place itself is nice but the food has gone downhill. We ordered the venison sausages which had mustard mash and the gnocci. The Gnocci didn’t resemble gnocci and was tasteless. The sausages were nice but there was also no flavouring at all for the mash. Perhaps a one off but it’s unlikely we’ll be back anytime soon.

Sunday lunch x2 Perfect spot to stop by. The service and staff are friendly and attentive. Even without booking, they find us a lovely corner to sit and enjoy the best veggie Sunday rost. Plenty of vegetarian and tasty options. Spotted clean, dog-friendly.

Living in Chichester we joined family here for dinner and breakfast. On our recommendation they had booked it as it had dog friendly rooms, unfortunately they did not notice on the website that price for the room doubled on 29th due to horse racing at Goodwood! Their room was very nice but 2nd floor with skylight so hot for a dog and staff emptying bottles in the bin below their window just before midnight wasn't conducive to a nice country break. It was fairly busy at dinner and we chose 2 x lamb kofta on a bed of giant couscous , Fish filet , my cousin said that the fish fillet was the smallest he had ever seen, lamb kofta was fine but couscous inedible due to excess of salt, could not find the sauce. Price was very high for the tiny portions of fairly nondescript food. Breakfast - the restaurant was quite empty and eventually the young waiting staff came and gave us a menu. Unless we misunderstood, we had a choice of an item on the menu without juice etc. Full English breakfast was a problem as they had run out of baked beans! We had to get up as unable to attract the waiting staff to ask for a pot of tea. In conclusion: Overpriced for tiny portion nondescript food, poor service at breakfast which also was very overpriced. So embarrassed that we recommended it and whilst a nice atmosphere and interior, despite being fairly local, we will not be in a hurry to return.

Fabulous location, excellent accommodation, amazing food, friendly professional staff. Come here, you won't be disappointed.

The White Horse has a good reputation, so we popped in for Sunday lunch, with high hopes. A rather sub-average meal, with an above-average price tag, awaited us. The manager created a few problems that didn’t exist, which were later solved by exhausted bar staff. Decor was ‘catalogue’ country pub. Against my review, it has to be said that the place was full, so while I won’t be back, it would appear that they are bringing in the customers. They must therefore be doing something right. But I would be hard pressed to tell you what that ‘something’ is.

The White Horse at Chilgrove has been a firm favourite for many years, and our recent visit for Sunday lunch did not disappoint! Enormous portions, good menu, excellent service, even EV charging too. We always take the scenic route through Petworth and Singleton, thoroughly recommended.

We stayed overnight at The White Horse between Christmas and New year and were blown away by the attentive service from all of the team. Nothing was too much trouble, from booking taxis, a late night snack when I am sure the kitchen should have been closing to taking genuine care of our dog. This is a truly dog-friendly pub! All of our tastes were catered for at breakfast, luxurious toiletries in the bathrooms, clean spacious bedrooms, plus a bathtub with a view in our bathroom, (Rabbit) couldn't ask for more! Thank you Sarah and all the team that looked after us during our stay, 5 * service, highly recommend.

Been waiting awhile to come here and it didn’t disappoint. Food and atmosphere were great. My mother in law was delighted and even Harley, our dog enjoyed the treats we brought home. Can’t wait to come back again

Booked Christmas Day Dinner for my parents and they had such a lovely time , they said the staff were amazing and they felt very special a romantic afternoon for them . Thankyou for having them and maybe I’ll be back for a roast dinner with my dog soon .

Visiting the area for a wedding at Farbridge. On arrival the staff were SO welcoming. Our room was perfect and our dog loved the large lawned area to run around in and chase his ball and meet up with the other doggy visitors. Our evening meal was simply fabulous and the visiting brass band and Carol singing only added to the festive feel the beautiful decorations had created. I have never seen such an extensive breakfast menu, and the quality of the food was superb. We will DEFINITELY be looking to stay at a Butcombe In again and taking advantage of the Muddy paws offer

We had not been to this pub for over 60yr cos in 1968 it was to expensive for us as we were saving to get married. we went back this week on recommendation from our daughter. what a lovely surprise. we had their Christmas sandwich. which included a pig in blanket and gravy. absolutely lovely. we then went last night for carols, mulled wine, and their fish platter ( which we had just for 2) well, that was amazing . the atmosphere in the pub and decorations made a really great evening. though we live in Waterlooville, we shall definitely be going back. all I can say is food and staff are brilliant. and well worth the trip out.

We had lunch yesterday and chose from the Christmas menu. There was 4 of us and we all chose something different in order to do a little 'sharing'! The food was first class. Delicious, well presented and just the right quantity. Thank you and look forward to seeing you again.

Right on the South Downs Way. I stayed here on a Monday after cycling from Eastbourne. I arrived late and the staff kindly let me order food ahead so I could eat on arrival. I had the superb mushroom gnocchi and croissant choc pudding. Food and beer was fabulous and my room was so cosy with a lovely high topped bath. Excellent value and lovely service. Would highly recommend.

Amazing private room for an excellent group dining experience, decorated beautifully & kept warm. Some updates needed to the toilet attached. Great meal, Artichoke Risotto recipe needs work or take off the menu, it was quite bad, very bland & rice not cooked well, don’t order that starter, as all the others were liked. Ox Cheek Wellington & Turkey main courses were delicious. Unfortunately for us, there was not enough staff on our Saturday night for drinks or meal flow, but friendly staff and lots of smiles when they were available.

Our room was comfortable, the staff were all very friendly and polite and the food was good.

Really memorable multi-generational lunch at The White Horse at Chilgrove today. 15 of us (age range 5 to 77) and everyone served attentively and efficiently. Fabulous quality multi-joint roast with exceptional accompanying wines. A lovely huge table to accommodate us all which facilitated conversation and laughter. Can highly recommend. We had a wonderful Sunday roast dinner in this location. Beautiful venue, with a great atmosphere and really professional and friendly staff. The food was delicious with great offers on two/courses.

Gorgeous pub in stunning setting, super friendly and helpful staff and lovely food. Pub was beautifully decorated for Christmas when we visited, and the stove was lit, so very cozy! Rooms clean and comfortable, but starting to show a little wear, apparently being refurnished in Feb ‘25 so will be back again after that. Lovely stay and great walks nearby.

Great service and food at The White Horse, Chilgrove.

One of my favourite locations and staycations. I’ve stayed here probably 4 months in total over the past 3 years The news that the beautiful baths will be removed when it’s refurbished will definitely in my opinion be a big mistake. If it’s managements decision to make this even more corporate and similar to a premier inn, then you will loose most of your Wedding parties and similar guests. A result of a few people that prefer a shower which is also available. Elizabeth

What can I say, I have never been so disgusted as I have been by my treatment from this establishment, I had a small complaint about being charged £25.00 for three smallish scallops served as a main course, but could not speak on the evening as I was not paying. The following day I telephoned and left a message and also emailed, no response, I forwarded the email again, nothing, I have telephoned again twice with a promise the manager will get right back to me, but nothing. Three scallops for £25.00 is frugal in the extreme, just look what The Ivy offer. This was a minor issue that has grown into one the leaves a very bad taste, it appears the attitude is lets rip off the customers and if the don't like it they can get lost. A shame good decor, friendly staff, but something seriously wrong with the senior management.

We had a delicious Sunday evening roast at Chilgrove after an afternoon walk. The various food allergies in our group of six were managed very well. All in all great food and great service. Thank you.

We had a lovely room but the heating was not working luckily it wasnt cold. We love the area and the pub is very dog friendly our dog gets lots of attention 😁 breakfast service wasnt the best we waited half an hour for toast which still turned out to be cold sadly but we will go again as its over all good

The best Sunday Lunch I’ve had in years, possibly ever! Wonderfully welcoming, efficient service, delicious food - great menu! Oh, and very friendly with dogs. We will 100% be back!

Lovely place with great staff but OMG the food prices are astronomical for a pub! Over £10 for most starters and often more than £24 for a main. At least the alcohol prices weren't too bad though. But won't be going back to eat any time soon, even though the quality of the food was pretty good. P.s. can't comment on the hotel part as only went for food and a drink.

We enjoyed a really excellent Sunday lunch. My beef was exceptional and the Yorkshire pudding was perfect. The rest of my family also praised the food. We also appreciated the warm and welcoming service. The prices are not cheap but I feel reflect the standard of dining.

Lovely pub but very disappointed in the food. Lunch time menu abysmal. Very limited choice so chose a Ploughmans sandwich. It arrived looking very uninviting no salad garnish of even a few crisps. The bread seemed very dry and realised that it was cold toast! The drinks were very overpriced. We went elsewhere for dessert and coffee. Did mention the poor choice on menu but not the poor food as we were out for the day celebrating my birthday. So disappointed!!!

My husband and I went for lunch. The three course set lunch was very well priced and delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. It was lovely to sit outside.

Fantastic location, beautiful building and very fast service. Unfortunately plates were cold so food went cold plus prices were higher than average -£18 burger and£6 pint. Maybe am being unfair as my expectations were very high.

Over the years we have been to the White Horse on numerous occasions including staying overnight at least twice and with family. There is a lovely circular walk (amongst others) you can do to burn off some calories before tucking into some food. Last Sunday we went for a roast which by all accounts was lovely. The only thing that wasn’t top notch was the service. We had to ask for our table to be cleared after having our mains and had to ask for the waiter to come back over to take our orders for deserts some 15minutes + after having the table cleared. The bill, when asked for (no sign of any staff member checking to see if we wanted it) was not calculated properly (overcharged by £9 which isn't huge but just shouldn’t happen). There was an item on the bill that we didn’t order. When we pointed out we didn’t have that item of food the reply was ‘we don’t have enough buttons on the till to name every item’. It’s simply just a re write on the till. We will be back but just wish the service a little more attentive and caring. 2 people, 2 mains and 2 deserts with a small wine and 1 larger at £90+. Fully appreciate the costs of running a venue such as the White Horse but if prices are premium then service needs to follow suit.

We were greeted with such a warm welcome by the friendly bar man, enjoyed a drink in the lovely bar area before being guided through to the dining area for what can only be described as a most satisfying, sensationally flavoursome dinner. We will be back!

I’m sure a lot of the food and staff are very nice but we stopped off as a group for coffee and was shocked at how expensive it was (£4 cappuccino). Tolerable as a once off if it had been a decent coffee but it was just warm milk with a bit of flavouring. Really unpleasant. The whole table who had coffee felt the same. We did mention it to a member of staff, but it was just a “sorry about that” reaction.

My work team and I met here for an early catchup. Excellent coffee and breakfast. Not really suited for a business meeting, but that's not why we use the site. Location is easy to find. The White Horse is a dog friendly pub, which means I'll be back with four legged friends!

Everything one needs is found here - comfortable rooms and facilities therein. Staff are friendly. However dinner is only served before 9pm!

Beautiful food and wonderful service from the young bar staff. I had a slightly unexpected comment from a much older lady behind the bar, as I was taking one of my clients to the toilet after the meal.... Excuse me but you haven't paid?!?! I replied yes I'm quite aware of that but I need to take one of my clients to the toilet! I thought it would be patently obvious where I was going but I guess she saw me as one of 'those' people who try and do a runner... Even though I was with two disabled clients whom I was supporting... Still nevermind... The food is fantastic and that is the main thing!

Myself and my partner had a fantastic meal! The location and pub perfect. We both had the wild boar and chorizo burger which was stunning. The front of house staff were great from start to finish. Will be back soon

This was my first visit to The White Horse. I chose it as a venue for a funeral tea as it was near to the church on the edge of Chichester and the setting seemed ideal. It was perfect ! The staff at every stage in the planning were kind and helpful , of course , but it is what happens on the day that counts. Everything was prepared to a high standard and all that I had requested was granted. In all , I had close contact with three members of staff , all of whom were cheerful and so efficient. It meant I and my family could relax with confidence that all was well , which is so important at a function such as this. Thank you to all at The White Horse .

Wonderful food in a nice place. Dog friendly & the staff were very helpful. They gave us superb ideas of what to do with the family on holiday in the area. A bit pricier than we would normally pay, but the food was worth it.

Beautiful pub in lovely rural location. Staff were all consistently friendly and efficient. The food was really tasty, well-presented and there was a good choice. My room was comfy and quiet and had the best bathtub I've ever had a soak in. It's hard to be as enthusiastic as I'd like to be because I just didn't feel the room was worth the fairly hefty price tag. Admittedly, it was a Sat night when I stayed but the hike up in cost for a night seemed a little unfair. Charging over £300 for a room and describing it as 'boutique' sets up expectations which weren't met in terms of decor and additions to the room such as cotton wool pads, shower cap, robes, etc. I don't think a bin should be plastic in a boutique room and I think towels should be big and fluffy. The breakfast offering wasn't generous as the menu asked guests to just chose one dish. In other boutique stays there are a range of cereals, fruit, juices and pastries available to help yourself to as well as hot food to order which brings with it a more generous spirit. These things probably sound a bit petty and I wouldn't have minded if I hadn't paid so much. I've recently stayed in a shepherd's hut which had more in terms of comfort items and was more boutique-like and was a lot less money. I can even stay at a Pig hotel for less per night. So, overall, I left feeling a bit disappointed. I think you could either lower your prices slightly or visit other boutique stays and make sure your offering is in line with them. I fully accept that it's my choice to stay and I did know the cost beforehand but I was expecting more for my money. You have lots of potential and you are so nearly a perfect stay that I've bothered to write this long review as I want you to be better!

We booked this as a last minute on the day trip for 1 night, dinner and a room. We had a brilliant experience and would highly recommend. The location is superb - quiet, pretty and amongst many fantastic walks. The room we had (Badger) was big, clean, comfy and quiet - and with a beautiful bath for a soak. The pub itself was splendid, pretty, warm and welcoming. The food was top notch too and the servers friendly. We'll be back :)

4 soaking walkers and a moderately well-behaved Border terrier received a warm welcome for lunch from Sarah and the team. We thought that the daily menu (3 courses for £21.95) was particularly good value and offered delicious choices. The food, along with well-kept Butcombe ale and a lovely house Shiraz, was beautifully served at a really enjoyable pace. Nothing was too much trouble - we were so grateful and appreciated the team's friendly, professional approach very much. We look forward to returning, hopefully for the night, in order to make the most of everything that the wonderful White Horse has to offer. Thank you very much to the Team!

We stopped in to ask directions then decided to return later for dinner. This is a very dog friendly place and we had a great meal. The staff were very helpful in recommending places to visit in the area (many of which we did).

I meet a friend here once a year as she lives in Kent and I in Dorset and it is conveniently half way. As usual, the food was superb and the service outstanding. Nothing is too much trouble. Exactly the right amount of attention, without feeling bothered. We love meeting here as we are never hurried and are assured that we can stay as long as we like. As usual though, the day ends all too quickly and it is with a fond farewell that we take our leave, yet already looking forward to our return visit.

There is some issues that needs to be addressed, I booked The White Horse as it had five star's, far from it The room we had, there was mould in the shower, the shower door was very dirty the base was soft and about to collapse possibly, Crack in the sink, The window in and out very dirty, Dampness above the skirting board, Mould on the backs off the curtains, The handle on desk fell of and I replaced it back on, Cup's had brown stains in the bottom from tea, The lights was very dusty and one spotlight out, No ac in the rooms not even a fan on one of the hottest days, The tables on the patio were in poorly Bamboo broken and missing, The pub was nice and the food was good the stuff were very helpful . Mr A skinner.

Fabulous Birthday dinner for my partner. The staff were great and unfazed by our comings and goings to the table - so we eat a good hour after the booking and there was absolutely no grumbles. Food, wine and cocktails were delicious - lovely evening, thank you

I recently had the displeasure of dining at The White Horse, and I must say it was an experience I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. From the moment we walked in, it was evident that the staff had a blatant disregard for non-locals. Despite there being empty tables, we were made to wait for what seemed like an eternity. Once seated, the rudeness of the staff was undeniable. They seemed to take joy in making us feel unwelcome, clearly treating us differently because we were foreigners. This level of unprofessionalism is shocking in this day and age. The food, when it finally arrived, was mediocre at best and certainly not worth the agonising wait. I would strongly advise anyone considering a visit to The White Horse to think twice, especially if you’re from out of town. The staff’s behaviour was not just unprofessional but downright discriminatory.

Been going here, off & on for about 58 yrs. My wife and our friends loved it, food was fine ( lunch only). Unusally they have two Tesla chargers which we drive but one was charging and someone had just parked needlessly in other bay, not worth making a fuss. Lady who served us was nice and informative, afterwards we ambled across to the wine shop, very good selection.

Room was lovely but is quite noisy, comfortable but squeaky bed. Bar was great and had a few drinks with a couple of the regulars Phil & Roger who were lovely, friendly and funny. Lovely atmosphere. Staff very good and served with a smile

Currently staying at this pub and the food and rooms are excellent. Nice to stay somewhere that put some thought into it's food and rooms are well appointed with all mod cons. Fantastically run place

We came for Father’s Day! The roast wasn’t great. Potatoes were very salty, I had the smallest bit of chicken and pureed swede, one parsnip and a small amount of greens. I did not enjoy my meal. The prices that are charged do not reflect the food. It was a very disappointing Sunday lunch. They did remove the price of my roast dinner! I don’t think I would eat here again 😔

Over priced food. Children’s food is not worth it. Why serve chicken with bones in it. Absolutely awful. Fully aware the chicken has bones in it but not to be served on a child’s meal. Your comment is very patronising like the awful service you gave

Stopped for drink and sandwich on a bike ride. Sat outside in the sun. Very nice! Went back for a Saturday three course lunch. Great food and drink. Would recommend Back again with friends recently for evening meal and food and service was awesome

We stopped in for Food & Drink after visiting West Wittering beach. Lovely spot to have lunch and dog-friendly in bar area. Interiors were fab, so were all the seating - we got a great spot in the window bay so we could look out whilst we ate. We didn't use hotel, but we have noted it as one that we would come back to, should we be staying in the area again.

Visited for lunch after a walk up at Kingley Vale. Food was delicious, best Arancini I've tasted ever. The scallops and black pudding were supereb. The menu has lots of great choices so will have to go back. Easy access to some great walks. Service was efficient and most of all very friendly. Very enjoyable experience.

I will start off by saying the manager at The White Horse is fantastic. After a poor start where we were misinformed about our room not being ready, the manager resolved this issue very quickly and my wife and myself had an amazing stay. The evening meal and breakfast was outstanding and we loved having a bottle of wine in our own private courtyard. We will definitely be returning

Wr didn't get a room we did go and have dinner there for our anniversary. Very nice food and the atmosphere was nice it was a tad chilly but other than that it is a really nice place to eat.

Absolutely brilliant from start to finish. We had a 'significant birthday' party here with friends - and the setup of the dining room was so thoughtful and exquisite. Delicious food (and chef catered to all the DF, GF, VG etc needs in the group), great friendly hospitality from the staff and well appointed quiet rooms, set in beautiful surroundings. Great place from which to go for a walk or just look out at the world! Highly recommended and we will definitely keep coming back.

I'm so glad we chose the White Horse for a birthday meal with my son. The food was delicious; the first taste of the scallops with celeriac was an OMG moment! The chicken Kyiv was the moisest chicken I've tasted in years and the venison just gorgeous. Service was great, helping with menu choices, a welcoming smile and a joke or two shared. Away from the restaurant area the rest of the pub oozed quality and comfort in an old fashioned pub way. I would love to come back soon for lunch with friends and then while away an afternoon in the bar with them. Maybe stay overnight too - it would be rude not too!

Wonderful weekend spent at the Whit Horse. The staff are very professional, helpful and friendly. Food was amazing.

Had a fantastic Mother Days here! Staff were fantastic and very welcoming. Was extremely busy here, so happily had a drink at the bar first. A set 2/3 course menu was on and the price was around 30 for 3 courses which we all went for and for the quality of food was a fair price. Some great pubs in the area here, but taking everything into consideration this comes top of the bunch! Well done White Horse.

8 family members and I spent Mothers Day here, which was my first (and last) visit. The staff were very welcoming and the pub is lovely. However the food was bordering on being inedible. The starter of trout was virtually tasteless and very little of it. The main course of roast beef was cold, the vegetables sitting in water, (microwaved I suspect) two slices of beef which were very substandard. Burnt Yorkshire puddings which were replaced with fresh ones (and very good) why not serve these first time? The roast belly of pork was a joke, just a ring of fat with a tiny amount of meat no delicious crispy crackling on offer. My mother-in-law had the fish, ‘Catch of the Day’….but appeared to be a supermarket bought piece of salmon which was overcooked. The only saving grace was a couple of deserts which were ‘acceptable’. A deduction of £70 was taken off the bill, which in my view was insufficient considering more than 50% of the food was not eaten. To summarise, there are many more establishments offering superior food at similar costs and would surely compensate their customers when they get it wrong.
