Second time eating at this restaurant, great atmosphere, friendly helpful staff , good beers and wines. Excellent choices on the menu. The food is high end restaurant quality at reasonable prices.

The best Sunday lunch I have had for a long time. You need to book a table as it gets really busy. It would appear that there are 2 sittings which tells you everything you need to know about how popular it is. Couldn't recommend it highly enough. I will certainly be returning . Car park is quite small.

What a find! Great food and really nice staff. We had were looking for something to eat on a Saturday afternoon on our journey from the Weald and Downland Museum to Bosham. As it was after 3pm most places were shut. Desperation set in. But we need not have worried. The menu had some interesting choices as well as pub favourites. We plumped for pork belly, cheese burger and a Cajun chicken burger in gluten free bread. While we waited we tucked into the bread and olives on the bar. A good selection of beers and ciders to wash it down and a bottle of ice cold wine for the table. Food was delicious - served on hot plates - and even the French fries were crisp and tasty. Then to top it all we received packets of Love Hearts with the bill. A proper pub doing interesting food. Thank you.

A Sunday roast with the family. Good in some parts but very poor in others. Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese were all good, those who had chicken were happy too. The wait was quite long for both main and dessert, the beef was sinewy and chewy, and the ice cream shouldn't have been served as it was....not ice cream!! For the high prices charged here, we should have had a better experience overall. These comments were made to the servers and just one ice cream cost (£4) was removed from the bill. We won't be returning.

Very good light lunch there today - very tasty and more than we needed!! Good service and we were given a warm welcome. We will go again without fail.

One of the best ever Sunday lunches. Staff were brilliant when we arrived about an hour early. We waited by a lovely fore and as soon as our table was ready they got us in. Excellent wines. My roast beef was superb. Lovely and red with great vegetables and yorkshire pudding. Staff could not have been better. Our table was quiet and the plavce has a great atmosphere. We will return.

Amazing Roast Dinner. Always loved this pub for food, previous ownership was superb until they decided to go into the automated pizza business, new owners have picked up the mantle & are doing a fantastic job. Probably the best roast dinner in West Sussex! Must go back one evening for a dinner.

We were staying at a local campsite “concierge camping “ and exploring the local area and after a long dog walk we popped in for some food and a drink. The food was lovely and service was great. Had a nice chat with some locals . One of whom pointed us in the direction of Kingley Vale . We are so glad he did as we walked there the next day and it was awesome. We would have booked in for Sunday dinner after that but they were full . We will return to the camping site and therefore the Richmond Arms for the Sunday roast at another time.

Been about 15 years since visiting this pub. We noticed it had a 4.5 rating so went for lunch. We had the venison hot pot. Wow! This is not a fast food restaurant so waited a while ( not too long), but what you get is properly cooked food, not heated up pre prepared. We were told he is a new chef. Maybe he’ll get them from 4.5 to 5* Beer was very good, Sussex best Very attentive and pleasant staff.

Slightly out of the way but worth the drive! We went as a large table of 9 and service was fantastic with amazing food. Prices are reasonable and what you’d expect for the high quality of the food, and would highly recommend for dinner or Sunday lunch!

Such a lovely cosy pub with friendly staff and locals. We asked for a Baileys hot chocolate which was delicious, and the men enjoyed their pints. Wishing them all a Happy New Year, see you in 2024

I organised a surprise 80th Birthday celebration for my mother and thirty of her closest friends. After visiting several potential venues locally, I was left quite disappointed by how despondent, disinterested and inflexible these venues were. What I experienced at the Richmond Arms from Sam and Dom was the complete opposite. They were friendly, engaging, helpful and flexible from the outset. The afternoon could not have gone better. The team had arranged for us to have the whole restaurant area which made for a nice private and cosy environment for everyone to enjoy. Chief came in early to cook food that was extremely well received by all. Beef Wellington, Coq au Vin, vegetable lasagna were all fantastic and exactly what was needed on a slightly wintry November day, nothing was too much trouble. In these tough trading time it was refreshing to experience genuine hospitality. Thanks Sam, Dom and the team enough for making my mum stay truly special and would fully recommend a visit to the Richmond Arms in the idyllic West Aisling. I can also testify to the Monday night pizza and a pint which is excellent. Proper thin crust wood fired pizza from the van and cold pint, ideal come winter or summer.

The interior is very attractive and the one waitress welcoming and friendly. The menu is varied and interesting with a Christmas special as well as the main choices. We ordered from the main menu, two courses. We had booked a table for 12:30 pm and the first course was served within about half an hour. However it then took over an hour for our main dishes to arrive. Two of us were served but then the waitress departed to deal with other customers paying their bill before returning with the rest of our dishes The food was presented well but was served on completely cold plates which meant the turkey/rabbit/fish we ordered were only warm, whilst the sauces served directly onto the plates were cold . Only the excellent roast potatoes were hot. My dish, the turkey, was accompanied by green vegetables. The broccoli and green beans may have been introduced to the boiling water but their acquaintanceship was brief! ! They were warm but raw. so, a disappointing lunch. The restaurant was not busy so that cannot have been the excuse for the poor kitchen service.

Locals recommended eating here and it didn’t disappoint. The service from start to finish was excellent and the food was delicious and beautifully presented, would deff go back if we come back to this area for a stay again

A very nice village pub, popular with locals and welcoming to visitors. We booked for Sunday lunch with our 2 dogs. They recognised that they were big dogs and relocated us to a more comfortable table straight away. The ale was well kept and the roast beef was excellent. If we are in the area again we will definitely pop in for more of the same.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch today, two families / friends both celebrating birthday.s. The food was delicious, they catered for the children and the fussy allergy person, exceptionally well. We all left with full belly’s , great portion size Service was spot on, very attentive. Happy to give extra sauces etc. Great atmosphere, friendly locals. Will definitely come for Sunday lunch again. My Mother in law generously took a group of us for lunch for my wife's 50th. What a fabulous experience. Attentive service and food beyond all expectations. Everyone left with a smile on their face. Well done and thanks to all at the Richmond!

We love this pub and the village but unfortunately the quality of the food has gone down. We had the Sunday lunch menu which was fairly standard. I had the roast lamb which came looking like a lamb burger. The beef was a bit disappointing...

Had Sunday lunch the pork belly arrived looking like lumps of clear fat. I could go on, but I won't and I won't be going back either.

We were welcomed with a smile and given an option of which table we would like to sit at. It was a calm and relaxing atmosphere, we were not rushed at any point during the evening. 5e food was outstanding and would definitely recommend it to others. The service was second to none. We will certainly be going back very soon.

Lovely location in quaint village with picturesque pond setting. Nicely decorated and super friendly staff. Some unusual culinary delights on the menu with some light bite options too. One of our party required gluten free and they were very helpful with advice. The brisket was delicious . Price wise it’s the higher end for a lunch for worth it.

Beautiful, contemporary and romantic gastropub, with friendly and engaging staff. The food was presented beautifully and tasted sublime. The menu is a delight of local produce paired with excited and innovative methods and favours. Wonderful experience and would highly recommend the Bavette and the Brisket for main course, the chorizo scotch egg starter was a taste bomb.

Had an excellent meal here, I had the wild boar taco and my wife chose the Cornish sardines both were full of flavour and great to see such variety of ingredients on a menu.Main courses were pheasant masala kebab which was very tasty and came with a great use of cauliflower from a farm in chidham!My wife went for the fillet steak which was cooked perfectly and on a BBQ!An excellent experience, great and different wine list, beautiful building in the country, will definitely be visiting again soon.

Three of us had a table, two of us ordered the bavette steak (finished on a bbq), 1 had hogget .. I ordered a bottle of Sicillian red wine Nero d'avola off the menu without putting on my glasses (it was served cold - weird, we didn't complain but would have appreciated it being pointed out as it was January after all?!) ... my husband and I felt the bavette steak wasn't particularly tender or a good cut (we have an amazing butcher we use at home). The lamb was better. Desserts ... my mother-in-law and husband said the best she had EVER had, a sort of Christmas pudding flavour with meringue ... I had the salted caramel ice cream which was lovely. Nothing really wrong but somehow the menu is a little 'off the wall' for our taste perhaps, we prefer Earl of March or Crate & Apple but a welcome change.

Celebrated a work colleagues birthday here and ‘Wow’ what a perfect find! A small and quaint traditional pub, very cosy and welcoming. The choice of menu was perfect and catered for everyone’s tastes.Honestly every mouthful of our choices across a table of 7 of seven of us was sublime! I had well hung hare and hedgehog mushroom croquettes to start and a beautiful brisket for main. Every dish delicious. A lovely selection of ice creams and desserts too. Excellent wine!The chap at the bar who had only been there for a week was knowledgeable, welcoming and Passionate about the pub and his role! Wanted to snatch him up as an excellent advocate for any business. He talked us through all of our choices and wine with ease and confidence. Have already told family and friends to visit and will be taking hubby there soon!

A table for 3, 3 courses and drinks, midweek. All very good. We discovered on arrival that dogs are not allowed, apart from weekends in the bar side.

Had a fantastic roast here, one locally foraged mushroom flatbread and an octopus to start, both very tasty and full of flavour. We both had the roast beef which was the best I have had great flavour and cooked beautifully. Carrots, parsnips and potatoes cooked well and good flavour, oh and an amazing Yorkshire! Good, concise wine list with something for everyone, we will definitely return!

Do t believe the photo on Trip Advisor. We booked this to take my Mother out for Christmas lunch. We were packed in like sardines. Because of this the noise in the room from everyone there was nearly unbearable, and then the staff turned loud music on. Admittedly they eventually turned it down.The food was a real disappointment. The starters were good, but the mains were very poor. All the roast potatoes and roast veg were sloppy and soft. The creamed leak was very watery. I had belly of Pork which was, I think, supposed to be wrapped in crackling, but this was just a band of soggy fat, not at all crispy.On top of this, the table next to us was full of and arguing family who couldn’t control their children.Overall, and awful experience and one to avoid. Great setting, but there are much better country pubs to eat in in the area.

Unsure how to review this as we were made to feel really unwelcome , even though we called at 9am on the Sunday morning and made a reservation for 2.30pm.

We ate with friends using the “Country Table” option. This involves advance booking and payment and arrival well before the start of meals being served at 7.30 sharp. There is no choice regarding the menu (all tables get the same meal) and in our case it was ribolta (thick vegetable soup [delicious]) for starter, hogget (lamb/mutton) for main course and apple cake for sweet. The food is brought in large tureens or plates and guests serve themselves. Food is wholesome and well cooked. Coffee was below standard and not recommended.

This place is very close to where live. We often use it when family come to stay.

We visited for Sunday Lunch during our first visit to the area. the restaurant was sourced from the Good Food Guide.We were'nt disappointed. The village was very picturesque and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere. Our waitress was a lovely girl, very friendly and efficient. The owner also came to each table checking all was ok. The roast beef was very good, nice vegetables displayed well. My husband had Pork, which was tasty but a bit dry. However, the licorice ice cream was the best ever!

A return after far too long. The journey for us on a rainy Saturday night is about 20 miles from Angmering and takes around 40 minutes. Is it worth it? Without question, it is!

My mother-in-law wanted to treat us to a meal out and we wanted a change from the Earl of March and hadn't visited The Richmond Arms for years but after reading TripAdvisor reviews and viewing the on-line menu we are so thrilled we did.

We had an evening meal there while staying on a local camping site. We booked in advance which was suggested and ate outside as we had our dog,although the staff were more than happy to let us eat in. The food was absolutely fantastic, very tasty and a bit different from the norm as was the 'Silly Moo' cider! Staff and locals were friendly particularly when our dog decided to escape into the kitchen! Highly recommended. thanks

I have just eaten one of the best and tastiest meals I have ever eaten . Will and his team have just blown my mind in a good way, and I do not say this lightly. I ordered the Suckling Pug shoulder with the butternut squash, chargrilled broccoli and the pickled cherries. It was sublime. The flavours in the pork were magnificent and the butternut squash- I want the recipe. I have never tasted squash like it. A really amazing meal. One I won’t forget. Thank you all. It’s a meal I will really cherish.

Let's start with the positives. It's a really welcoming, appealing room and the waitresses are friendly, lively and efficient. We really wanted to enjoy our lunch here and in parts we did. Starters scored highest. My partner was amused by his cheeseburger spring roll and enjoyed it. I liked my baby artichokes with broad bean and goats cheese hummus - I'm not normally a fan of broad bean hummus, but the addition of goats cheese works really well. We were, however, rather less happy with the mains. My partner was a bit critical of his Secretto corn fed acorn fed Pata Negra pork, largely because of the slick of oil left on the plate when it was finished. I too had my reservations about the so-called 'meltingly tender' grilled organic lamb - not so tender and its tahini based sauce was not unpleasant to the taste, but pretty unappealing on the eye. Something of a delay before the arrival of my partner's peach trifle was almost certainly explained by the frozen slice of sponge at its base - we suspected there'd been an issue in the kitchen with thawing it out. Were we being metropolitan snobs? Possibly. But the fact is the the standard didn't consistently match the prices. We'd certainly go back and give it another try if we were in the area. But the overall impression of the cooking was that it was just a bit too inventive in its attempts to be cutting edge and, for us at least, a little bit more simplicity might produce better results.

We spent Friday evening as dinner guests and also stayed overnight. The menu was mouthwatering and didn’t disappoint in the slightest. Wine menu was excellent and the staff relaxed but attentive despite running a packed restaurant. Ambience was exciting and full of happy customers who didn’t mind waiting for the food as the quality was so good and the staff obviously working very hard.

On a rainy Friday while on holiday, a leisurely lunch seemed a good idea. The Richmond Arms is charming and welcomes dogs. We were seated immediately and took ages to select from the menu as everything sounded great. The scallop starter with pineapple was amazing, as was my Chorizo scotch egg. Mains of Sucking Pig and a cut of Pata Negra were outstanding. Desserts were equally different and divine. Good wine list, attentive friendly service and good value for money considering the excellent standard. Loved it! It surprises and delights.

This was the second Saturday evening visit in as many months. Our first time was a special occasion and we enjoyed delicious woodfired pizzas and the accompanying menu starters. We then had somewhat of a wait to be noticed, for dessert orders to be taken and desserts served, and again an overly long wait for the bill, so much so that I elected to pay at the bar.

Based in a lovely and quiet village. Horses clopped by as we sat down to have a pre dinner drink. The windows were open to allow the air to waft through on a warm summer's evening. Very friendly welcome. Service of food from ordering takes a while but everything seems to be freshly prepared and it was worth waiting for. Good food but on the expensive side. Would go again when in the area as it offers something different by way of the food choice and ambience

Excellent choice of food and wine. We dined on a Thursday night, I had fish of the day, local turbot cooked to perfection over charcoal, thoroughly recommend this gastro pub, easily the best in the local area

Booked for 3 adults, 2 kids. We we’re told upon arrival that their wood fires oven was off, so only gougons on offer for the kids. Apparently we were called and told this (we weren’t), and we’re then told we were told this when booking (again we weren’t).

Nach der Empfehlung unserer Vermieterin und Besuch der Website hatte ich ein bißchen mehr erwartet. Wir hatten per E-Mail reserviert, auch eine Bestätigung erhalten, doch waren wir nicht vermerkt und bekamen nur einen Tisch, weil wir früh dort waren. Die Vorspeisen haben uns sehr gut geschmeckt, auch die Weinkarte war hervorragend, doch mein Hauptgang und die Beilagen fand ich nicht besonders inspiriert und gelungen in ihrer Zusammenstellung. Der Service war zwar nett, aber etwas hektisch. Es war für die Anzahl der Tische einfach eine Servicekraft zu wenig da.

I took some Australian relatives here on Friday evening along with other members of my family. We had a great evening. The food was excellent, the service was first class. The place was clean and well staffed. The staff were very attentive at all times...My guests were very impressed.

I must have cycled past this place hundreds of times but haven’t been in since it was a pub leading the real ale revival in the 70’s. Finally managed to make a booking after it was recommended by a friend who lives nearby. Our meal was superb. The menu is short (just what I like) so it concentrates on good, often local, produce, good cooking and slightly frivolous presentation. The staff are lovely too.

Food as good as always, although the Grand Marnier ice cream in the dessert I had, a difficult thing to get right, was more sorbet than ice cream, shame.

Whether it was the whole baby Cadiz squid,Wickham Goat or the sticky Funtington Brisket the whole meal was simply exquisite! Thank you.

First time visit and with another couple, having booked in advance which is clearly essential. Out of the way place, and parking areas limited, albeit can park down the road somewhere. Seated very quickly on arrival by a lady clearly in charge, and extremely helpful and knowledgable. Menu was not the run of the mill and was so nice to see something different and inventive. We were not able to have anything from the wood fire menu as weren’t in the correct area and you can’t mix menus either which was disappointing for some of our party. Appreciate menus are cooked in separate areas and we wouldn’t receive our food together. Kind of been helpful to know when booking. Food was served nice and timely throughout the evening, well presented and was delicious. Starters included the asparagus, chorizo scotch egg, tempura mushrooms - all perfect, and main meals included braised brisket in sticky bbq sauce that fell apart and Indian chick pea flatbread which was from the vegan menu and equally great. Restaurant was quite noisy thanks to a larger group almost on top of us and particularly loud which was annoying somewhat. Overall food was very good, service too. Cost was around £40 per head including drinks (no bottles of wine) - so above average cost, but for and above average meal.

The second visit to Richmond Arms, we went a few years ago and promised ourselves we would return. It was a lovey friendly atmosphere with helpful attentive staff. We had pleasant feeling of not being rushed to finish dinner as often, in other places you need to vacate the table for the next sitting. The food was exceptional with a good range to choose from. All freshly cooked and well presented. We will definitely return again!

Two of us ate here this evening, sharing a starter of the gremolata crusted halloumi “chips” with a delicious homemade tartar sauce. The steak bavette was cooked to perfection and dressed with herbs and lemon zest. The chunky chips were crunchy, piping hot and fluffy inside. Everything was cooked beautifully and served very hot. Even the old fashioned cutlery was charmingly appropriate. My companion had the pork served with pickled kumquats, also very good apparently. We couldn’t resist the ice cream, trying rhubarb sorbet, grand marnier and salted caramel. They were all divine, absolutely exploding with flavour and rustic charm. The bill was £80 for two people, two and a half courses each, including a bottle of really nice rosé. I thought it was good value at that price and exceptionally good food. The pizzas being served outside looked fab as well.

Having always been tempted to try this al fresco style dining the baby sitting of our twin grandsons provided the ideal opportunity.

First time to the RA and we were not disappointed. Warm welcome, nice atmosphere, not too noisy, and menu selection was very difficult as there were many great dishes to choose from. Recommend the brisket and pork for main, and for starters, recommend the cheeseburger spring roll!

Four of us had a 5 mile walk between 4 villages in West Sussex and our start point was West Ashling, where we came across The Richmond Arms gastro pub and what a find.

My first visit to this lovely gastro pub for lunch with a friend. I was sooo impressed with this pub, it’s surroundings & the food, which was exquisite. I had the chorizo scotch egg to start, followed by monk fish & finally the dark chocolate mousse. I will definitely be returning again soon with my partner, as I’m sure he’ll love the food too!

This was my first visit although local to the Richmond I had been encouraged to try the restaurant by my son who praised it highly.

Just dropped in for lunch with a friend and oh what a find. One look at the menu at we realised this could be great and it didn't disappoint. Fabulous food and excellent service this is a place worth making a detour for and it is in the most quaint village.

Went for a celebratory meal with friends one of them vegetarian. All enjoyed the meals, wine and ambience. Unfortunately one of the main vegetarian meals was off that night. Excellent evening nonetheless.

The cooking is divine at the this quaint restaurant. But make sure to book in advance as very popular. Lovely building and the food is, sorry to repeat myself, lovely.

We visited here mid-February for lunch, having eaten there once before. There was only 1 other table in use and we were seated quickly. As time passed, it got busier until there were around 5 or 6 tables in use and the waitress was running around tryin to work the bar and take food orders.

Being lucky enough to live locally, we have been visiting for many years, and this is our number one place to take friends. I can say with confidence that you won't get crossed off a Christmas card list for recommending the Richmond Arms!

This looks like a pub but it’s a fancy expensive restaurant with a bar. We popped in for lunch with friends expecting typical pub food but we were faced with an fine dining exotic menu of things we didn’t really want to eat in the one hour we had for lunch. Having committed to it however, we stayed. The food was ok but not at all what we wanted. We did see another couple come in, order a drink, sit down, look at the menu, then finish their drinks and leave. Fine dining is ok for evenings but at lunch time it needs to be lighter. Fish & chips, sandwiches, burgers, pies, sausages etc.

This Valentine's Day supper was delicious. Pulpo and Sobresada skewers and Haloumi followed by steak cooked to perfection, medium rare, on a wood-fired grill served with chips cooked in dripping and some cabbage all washed down with a Ribeiro from Galicia.

At last a pub that serves a great home cooked Sunday Lunch! I had the lamb which was really tender and the service was excellent. This is my first visit to the Pub and will be returning. We also has the sardines which were delicious - it is the little touches that make this a great experience.

Fabulous is all I can say. The service, the food and ambiance. Looked after us very well and you could not fault anything. Will be back

We had a light lunch her with a drink.the staff were rely helpful and very polite.The food was well prepared ,looked good on the plate and was very tasty.will go back again in an evening soon.

Booked table for 4 people and it was a great experience from start to finish. Great selection of starters, mains and even made room for dessert. Want to return during the day.

This is a lovely cosy country pub which serves quality food. It is my go to restaurant if I want to be assured of a good meal and is my favourite local eatery.

We have eaten here a few times over the years, and generally it's been ok, but finally we had a breakthrough and this meal was quite something ! Broccoli as a starter may not be everyone's favourite, but it was very tasty, as was the beetroot 'kebab'. All diners had the braised brisket with dripping chips, which was simply melt in the mouth. And the puds were good too ! On a weekday lunchtime, we were the only diners, which meant we could hear each other, even if it meant there was a lack of atmoshere. But - no reason to stay away, great food ! And the service was very friendly, prompt and helpful !

Used to be better, they have always been very very good at accommodating allergies or special diets. We have always had good food and service over many visits, our last visit was very different! The waitress wasn’t very smart, she didn’t remember the special items we ordered. When the GF toast arrived it was burnt, we asked for a replacement and it was burnt the second time.

I cannot recommend this highly enough, the food is outstanding and you can choose to eat a la carte or Pizza, both are amazing. Proper food, beautifully cooked. Great wine list and the rooms are warm and comfortable.

Sunday lunch with the mother in law. Booked late the night before and they managed to get us in, thankfully. Everything was fantastic. Decor, service, oh and the food was delicious. We all had the lamb (with the funny name) leaving us reeling in delight for the rest of the afternoon. Perfect roasties, creamy leeks, roasted parsnips and carrots were all yummy. Harvey's beer on draught... I had a combination of the two (IPA and Old Ale) the staff informed me it's called a 'Mother in Law' because its old and bitter! Told the mother in law too.
