The best restaurants serving British food in Saddleworth North Oldham North West

Bakes custom made me a 30th Birthday cake box with various treats. This was during the COVID-19 lockdown so everything was done over social media messages. The service was excellent and of course was the cakes and biscuits. Would highly recommend.

We typically refrain from lodging complaints about our dining experiences; however, our recent visit to The Roebuck Inn on January 10th for a 50th birthday party warrants a response. Upon arrival, we informed the staff that we had brought a cake, but no offer was made to store it in the kitchen or serve it after our meal. While we accepted this oversight, the issues compounded as the evening progressed. The food quality was disappointing—steaks were overcooked despite specific requests, and the vegetables were overboiled and lacked flavor. Additionally, there was no table service for drinks, requiring us to go to the bar and pay each time, which was particularly inconvenient given our location on the top floor. The cleanliness of the room was also subpar, with remnants of the previous party’s food still on the floor. When the bill arrived, we noticed that the prices had increased by £3 per head compared to what we were initially quoted. The staff appeared disengaged and unprofessional, contributing to a generally unpleasant atmosphere. To make matters worse, the night was cut short due to a foul odor emanating from blocked toilets, which caused several diners, including us, to leave early. Despite these significant issues, no refund or discount was offered. Given the absence of the owners, it appeared that the staff might have been overcharging customers. Unfortunately, this experience was a complete waste of over £400, and we will not be returning.

Another visit spoilt by poor service. This is a lovely pub. It has a great atmosphere and decor and serves wonderful food. I hate to leave negative comments, but this is the second time we've visited and had poor service. Last time the waitress forgot to put our dessert and drinks order in and after a 20 min wait came back and asked if we wanted a dessert. This time, part of our drinks order was left on the bar, (we went and collected it ourselves) and then the waitress served our food to another table who only realised after she brought out another dish they hadn't ordered, but by which time they'd begun eating the other dishes. The pub wasn't even that busy. As much as I really like the place, I'll be considering elsewhere next time. Sorry.

Comfort Haddock absolutely beautiful. Beautiful sauce. Melted in the mouth. My husband had the steak pie, delicate pastry with so much filling. Great service as always.

Restaurant clean and friendly, staff polite as always. We chose from the smaller menu.. we ordered the creamy garlic mushrooms as they're usually delicious... however this time was drizzle with balsamic vinegar... spoiled the dish. The parfait and home made chutney was delicious but served with dry warm bread or aneamic floppy toast? The pepper corn chicken came which was fantastic as always. However the liver and bacon came still bleeding, very off putting. Next was crumble and custard, very tasty, also Sticky toffee pudding served piping hot. There was no need to put a wilted viola flower on a hot dessert. ... yes it was busy and service was a little slower today. The place is delightful and staff lovely so would still recommend. Obviously not the same chef.

Amazing pub; friendly and efficient service with cosy atmosphere. I'm very impressed by the food, would recommend to everyone. I intend to go again with my friends and siblings because the food was fresh, which we hardly get in the city and other town pubs. This pub should be proud of the service they offer, all I could say is regarding the food, there's not many pubs like The White Lion, everyone must try them, don't miss out guys. A special thanks to the chef for the yummy food 🤤. Apologies guys, I forgot to take pictures. Forgot due to enjoying the amazing experience I was having at the time but I will definitely post some pictures of the food when I visit next time.

I had hunter's chicken but found it way too dry and my husband had sirloin steak that was supposed to be medium rare but it was more medium to well and also extremely dry

Friendly, atmospheric pub serving nice ale.

Friendly staff, but overpriced, poor quality food. Avocado on toast was more like some weird guacamole, that was very lemony and smushy - yuck! Poached eggs nice. Kids burger really cheap 'beef'. Terrible smell as well - like extreme wet dog or gone off milk? It was truly awful.

Over priced.. cafe run by silly girls. No coordination as to what menu was available and queuing time ridiculous. Won’t be going back

Visited here yesterday as a group of 12 for my birthday afternoon tea. Everything from booking to the experience itself was spectacular. The staff literally couldn’t do enough for us. The afternoon tea was delicious and every need was catered for. The staff were super attentive and we all had an amazing time. Thank you xxxx

Went on a recommendation and was lovely. Went at 10am for Saturday morning breakfast Great coffee and service. Persian eggs with chorizo were nicest I’ve ever had….family who all had the small English breakfast said was plenty and very nice. Will be back for sure!!!

We visited The Old Original once again for our Christmas drinks together. As usual it was very cosy and easy, the staff were great and we just enjoyed our visit prior to a busy Christmas.

Absolutely lovely pub, we turned up 10 minutes before the kitchen was due to shut but the girl serving was more than happy to accommodate us, she was so friendly and polite plus excellent service. The food was delicious tasty and value for money, I recommend the rump steak with home cooked chips. The steak was thick generous potion and cooked to perfection. The pub itself was warm cosy and friendly.
