Great pub with excellent an atmospheric feel. Food was delicious and seriously hearty portions. Good value and a great welcome.

A haven is fine ales in a wonderful building in a great setting.

Looking a bit run down. Food and drinks left on tables nobody clearing up.

We got a lamb shank and a small roast(Turkey). Everything was perfect! Mash was incredible. A resident pair of peacocks are free roaming and can and will jump up on the tables outside! What an experience! Will be coming back.

If you want a decent home cooked meal then here is your place. Excellent food, fantastic service and an all round lovely cozy pub set up in the hills of uppermill. Staff very friendly and you can take your dogs in too. We were made to feel really welcome and will definitely be going again.

Nicely located pub on the hill tops of Uppermill in Saddleworth adjacent to the Parish Church. Great range of nice food and a good range of good beers.

First time today lovely place went for a walk first around the church then lunch food was great plus came out fast 🤘

Honestly what a great find! Great food, decent pricing and not at all pretentious. Beautiful setting and a lovely area to hangout outside. Can tell this is a great pub by the many welcoming and friendly locals dotted about. Everything a country pub should be!

So, the atmosphere was nice and the beer quite good, but the food wasn't good. We ordered some home made chips (as advertised) and they came burnt, they basically said that they weren't burnt it was just the potatoes, when I showed him a deep black chip he couldn't defend it anymore, took it back to the kitchen and then we got served undercooked chips, there was a whole several shades of cooked that they could have gone for, but you could tell that deliverately they werent having it. At that point. Seeing the attitude of the staff we decided not to argue anymore but got really disappointed. I have Cancer, I don't really eat out much, and this really put a sour taste on the evening. A shame really, the place has a beautiful potential.

A cosy, traditional pub with a friendly atmosphere. They have a varied menu with something for everyone, including a few vegan options. The food is classic, home cooked pub food and did not disappoint. The chips are to die for!

Nice varied menu and choices, the meals we had were all good and we had some good variation, I had the homemade lamb kofta, my wife and her friend had the roast dinner deal (£16 for a soup starter,a roast dinner and a pudding after) which was excellent value, the other person in our party had the mixed grill and we all really enjoyed it.

Had a homemade rag pudding, which was delicious, and my mum had hunters chicken, which she said was very good.

Great home cooked food. Great prices.

9 of us had a gorgeous meal here on Sunday, nothing to much trouble, would recommend to anyone

Never a bad meal when Dad and I visit this happy Inn. It seems all that visit here, go away fulfilled either by food or drink, and I can vouch for both 😁

Brilliant steak and onion sandwiche on ciabatti. Chips are something else. Proper potatoes. £10.95, bargain, washed down with 2 pints of st george bitter.

Had no idea of it's existence until 3 weeks ago. I'm sure we will be visiting on regularly visit. The food (steak and kidney rag puddings for all plus choc orange cake and apple pie for dessert) were all fantastic. Some of the best pub food we've had anywhere.

Nice to come back after a ten year gap with Julian's family now all grown up. Superb food and drink as usual at bargain prices. (gravy on the Sunday roast to die for) generous meat and vegan chicken portions, superbly cooked and delivered on a busy Sunday in just 20 mins. Still my favourite pub in the UK.

A beautiful pub / resturant, very welcoming and cosy atmosphere. Lovely to see the original bar and fireplace. The food was delicious and offered local dishes, using local produce. Definitely recommend it as it was also dog friendlt

Eaten here a couple of times after long walks in surrounding countryside. The food is average at best & sometimes poor, which is a shame as its a lovely old pub. Had fish & chips this time, which wasn't the best, dry fish with few bones & warm but not hot mushy peas. I can't help think the menu size is an issue it's way too big to cook so many dishes well. It's often a point made by top chefs on these kitchen nightmare programmes & can see their point. Less is more.

Having been here before, we were looking forward to our Sunday roast. However, we were dismayed as soon as we arrived, to find the bartender seemed very inexperienced, and struggled with four drinks. We all ordered our food at the same time, but three mains arrived, more or less together, leaving the fourth eagerly awaited…..I was served two incorrect meals, and only got the one I ordered as my family finished theirs?? Then we had to ask for my pudding…. Such a shame, after such positive experiences in the past …..

Excellent vibe. There was a lovely fire on the go which was very pleasant on a cold afternoon! The lady behind the bar was absolutely hilarious and very welcoming. Just what we needed mid-hike!

Very very disappointed Medium fish, chips and peas Pudding, chips and peas Both meals had Chips which were rock hard and Crunchy. Complained to the waitress who advised we could have some more chips, but would have to wait 10 minutes (Didn’t offer to change our meals) We declined the chips as the rest of the meal would have gone cold. Only ate the fish and the pudding and peas. Plates with all the chips returned. When we asked for the bill, there was no reduction just full price for the meal. After airing our disappointment, eventually knocks off £3 for a totally spoilt meal Needless to say, will not return And certainly will not recommend Poor

Vegan rag pudding is amazing, huge portions. Masses of freshly cooked chips and mushy peas. Great old fashioned pub. Own micro brewery and very good selection of local beers.

Went to the Church Inn on Tuesday for a Valentine's lunch. We ordered 2 drinks and proceeded to order our food. I ordered the Liver and onions, and on arrival I received a puree of liver gravy. My partner ordered the Steak and Ale pie. When her meal arrived all she could taste was the liver. It's obvious that the same ladle was used for the normal gravy as for the liver puree. We have tried to contact the establishment to know avail. This is just to give the heads up for other customers.

Proper northern food. If you want a pub where it feels like your Nan/Mum is making proper good food then this is your place. Excellent portions, excellent prices, staff were really friendly too. Brilliant place, I was full after it!!!

Big roaring fire, a great selection of ales and hearty food...quite a lot of it, actually.

Booked in for Saturday lunch with my two daughters, ordered 2 hot beef sandwiches and Thai green curry with garlic bread starter. Starter never arrived, the beef wasn't great, the gravy was tasteless, bread was soggy after 30 seconds, chips were average at best. if your going to charge 13 quid for a beef butty, at least try the beef and the gravy to make sure its edible, and serve it with a bit of a garnish!!

Everything was great but unable to try there cheese and onion pie as it wasn't ready for lunchtime

Place of warmth in cold January. Can’t wait to visit again. Interesting setting. Lovely walks nearby. Excellent food.

Amazing food. Recommend you book in advance. The lady who served us had only just started and she was just amazing. The food portions are just enormous. I had the pork in paprika sauce. I don't think I ate for a week afterwards!!! Parking can be a bit of a pain but overall, let's happy and would definitely recommend! Update: went just after Christmas and it was rammed. Lots of walkers had ended up here (probably due to its reputation) but just want enough serving staff. Well done to those who were there working and serving. Food took a while to arrive but was great food anyway.

A proper pub that also does really good pub food and beyond. To be honest I never get far beyond the rag pudding or cheese and onion pie. Both are to die for.

Came for dinner with two friends after a stunning walk around Dovestones. The pub is just delightful, really cosy. We had cheese and onion pie, homemade chips and gravy and WOW.. delicious!!! Really generous portions for a great price. Staff were so lovely too. Will definitely come again. Thanks so much :)

Never got no food as we were told we hadn’t made a reservation so they couldn’t host us even though I ALWAYS book but for some reason my booking was missing??? It’s ok though as we won’t be coming back and we have now gone two minutes further up the road to the Cross Keys pub and was so grateful we did the food was fantastic, and the staff the same. So we have now found a better place. Thank you for refusing us we have now found a better place to dine out.

Good value for the money. Nice warm atmosphere. We went for Lunch they were doing a lively trade always a good sign.

Disappointed today with my food,I have always enjoyed going to the Church Inn, for its charm and food, I had a tuna panini and chips, I had to return it as I'd asked for it toasted and it wasn't, some of the chips were black and bitty , the lady offered me curly chips instead , toasted panini was returned with curly chips, it was a poor meal , very very bland and I just left the heap of curly chips as they wasn't what I had really wanted, shame like I say as I've always liked going, put me off today ..

Simply the best nothing compares to home cooked food in a rustic old country pub . Few local fools who look down at non local folk but the owners and bar staff top notch ignore the ten bob millionaires with tales of how much their houses cost ! Food spot on

Only stopped for some hot chocolates after our wee walk up pots and pans. Lovely cist atmosphere to come into on a fresh day.

Went as a large party after a funeral. Friendly staff. The portions was huge and well worth the money. Lovely place, would go again and do recommend giving the place a visit
