Only complaint nearly 20 pound service charge.

Had to put up with a yapping dog. Useless dog owners! Otherwise twas very nice .

Our friend had read a good review so we decided to drive over from Halifax with another couple. A beautiful traditional rustic pub set in a idilic country location within a quint essential English village. The homemade food is incredible, great menu variety, polite and attentive staff, quick service, very generous portions and great value for money. We are looking to return to the area in the summer and intend to book local accommodation so we can have a walk, book dinner here and have a few drinks as the outdoor seating area looks very inviting!

Brilliant choices on menu. Food was excellent and a lot of it very tasty the chips were very nice and home made. In a really lovely setting will definitely be back.

Amazing food and huge portions. Ordered a lasagne and my wife ordered a skewer had to take half home as we were so full. Service was excellent especially the young gentlemen who was serving in the restaurant. Will recommend

Good nice meal for my mothers birthday

Ordered lasagne and fries, came as a burned block so reordered and when that came we were left with the cold chips the first one came with, plus there was hardly any meat or anything of substance in it. We have been going here for years and it has always been chip heavy but mains were always half decent …nice pub, deserves better food

The food was beautiful! Really really good. We sat downstairs as there were lots of tables reserved (I'd recommend booking a table if you can) especially if you are visiting on a weekend. The food was really delicious. Dog friendly as well which is a bonus and we even got a sausage for our doggo! Highly recommend!!

I had hunter's chicken but found it way too dry and my husband had sirloin steak that was supposed to be medium rare but it was more medium to well and also extremely dry

Set away from the main village and lends itself to the most beautiful views of uppermill nestled in the shadow of one of the most magestic churches in the area steaped in history, the food and drink are amazing set aside sone you time to enjoy it to the fullest 😀

My sister in law and I went here for lunch for my birthday. Wow, this place is awesome. Outside and inside bedecked for Christmas. What a beautiful aura for customers. We ordered our food and drinks. We had the steak pie and the steak pudding. Oh my goodness, everything was delicious, the home cut chips and mushy peas were to die for. The staff are very pleasant and we didn't wait long for our meals, about 10 mins. The open fire was a welcome sight as it was quite a cold but bright day. I had to write this review as I have reviewed lots of places to eat in the past, but the Church Inn is one not to miss. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone as it serves the best food that I have ever tasted. Long may you all reign, you are all 2nd to none. Bravo to owners, chefs and waiting staff. A most pleasurable afternoon spent in a delightful location.

Great food at great prices. The place is a proper old style pub with a great atmosphere.

We had a lovely meal this evening. Lamb shank and a roast beef dinner. The vegetables were a big improvement from the last time we came. Service and staff were excellent tonight.

Food was amazing, big portions and it came within 5 minutes of ordering despite it being busy. Very reasonably priced, would highly recommend.

Myself and 7 friends came for Sunday lunch, we all had a great time. Food was delicious and piping hot, large portions too! I will be back for more home cooked deliciousness. Staff are friendly and attentive.

Brilliant, two staff behind bar to take meal orders and serve beverages at the same time. Walked out of Diggle Hotel where one poor staff coping with meal orders and everything else !

We visit the Church Inn regularly with family, on our last visit we had taken two of our grandchildren for lunch. We were disappointed in one of the children’s meals, the fishfingers that he had asked for were of poor quality resulting in them being left, I tried them myself and agreed that they weren’t nice. We ordered ice cream for the children, it was more like frozen water the children left it telling us it wasn’t nice. I tried the ice cream and agreed again it was awful. It’s not cheap eating out, but when some of the food is of poor quality it makes even more expensive. I hope this review is read as constructive rather than negative.

Lovely, warm & welcoming pub which serves absolutely delicious homemade food. This is a place we visit as a family when returning to Uppermill, where my mum grew up.

This is a beautiful pub with a great atmosphere. Pet friendly, and the food is superb.

Cannot fault the pub for anything great choice of food and drinks and at reasonable prices

I had meat and tatty pie and it was top draw and massive portion ! Couldn't eat it all ! Was red hot inside with the open fires ! My Partner had turkey sandwich with homemade chips and again lovely ! Plus a pint of Guinness 2 large glasses of wine and half a coke for £42 .. outstanding.

We had not been to the Church for some time but still very special. Friendly, Attentive staff and a system in place that the Church runs very well on both food and real ale if required. The meals are large and the chef/ chefs do a great job as location and nostalgia attract many people. Food very enjoyable and the service was really good. This is my opinion on the day that I went for food at The Church.

The church inn is my favourite the food is good (pub grub) the beer is very nice and they have a large variety of alcohol. The staff are very friendly and welcoming the scenery is brilliant.

I have been to the church many times and usually leave very satisfied. So it pains me to say it really, but the Sunday dinner was not up to the usual standard this time. Even the presentation seemed a bit rushed and thoughtless. The roasters were very undercooked and looked more like boiled potatoes, and the rest of the veg was very overcooked, so it was pretty flavourless. I'm putting this down to a one-off because I do love the pub and the location, etc, and the food is normally really good. Sorry, church Inn, but I felt it needed mentioning.

Was disappointed with the Sunday roast. Pre sliced turkey. Roasties tasted awful, not crispy, soft and hard like they had been frozen and reheated. Veg overcooked. I think I would stick to the homemade chips. They looked delicious. I would go again but not for the sunday roast. The chocolate orange cake was tasty.

Our recent family visit to the Church Inn was a delightful experience. The food was delicious, the staff attentive, and the overall ambiance charming. We were particularly impressed with the excellent service provided by the lady who served us. The pricing was reasonable, offering good value for the quality received. The combination of tasty cuisine, warm hospitality, and pleasant surroundings has certainly enticed us to return. We're already looking forward to our next visit to the Church Inn.

Deadfull food.!!!!!..Steak and Mushroom pie small portion and tastless.the chips were [we were told] hand cut...they must have found the smallest potatoes ever...they were scraps and plus slices of potato on my meal ...awful.never again........ plus the wine is terrible no choice just one brand called Rabbit ...i think.......very overpriced for the quality of food......I did complain on the way out.....and asked about the sliced potatoes i didnt order......it really was awful!!!!!!!!!!

Looking a bit run down. Food and drinks left on tables nobody clearing up.

We got a lamb shank and a small roast(Turkey). Everything was perfect! Mash was incredible. A resident pair of peacocks are free roaming and can and will jump up on the tables outside! What an experience! Will be coming back.

If you want a decent home cooked meal then here is your place. Excellent food, fantastic service and an all round lovely cozy pub set up in the hills of uppermill. Staff very friendly and you can take your dogs in too. We were made to feel really welcome and will definitely be going again.

Nicely located pub on the hill tops of Uppermill in Saddleworth adjacent to the Parish Church. Great range of nice food and a good range of good beers.

Honestly what a great find! Great food, decent pricing and not at all pretentious. Beautiful setting and a lovely area to hangout outside. Can tell this is a great pub by the many welcoming and friendly locals dotted about. Everything a country pub should be!

So, the atmosphere was nice and the beer quite good, but the food wasn't good. We ordered some home made chips (as advertised) and they came burnt, they basically said that they weren't burnt it was just the potatoes, when I showed him a deep black chip he couldn't defend it anymore, took it back to the kitchen and then we got served undercooked chips, there was a whole several shades of cooked that they could have gone for, but you could tell that deliverately they werent having it. At that point. Seeing the attitude of the staff we decided not to argue anymore but got really disappointed. I have Cancer, I don't really eat out much, and this really put a sour taste on the evening. A shame really, the place has a beautiful potential.

A cosy, traditional pub with a friendly atmosphere. They have a varied menu with something for everyone, including a few vegan options. The food is classic, home cooked pub food and did not disappoint. The chips are to die for!

Nice varied menu and choices, the meals we had were all good and we had some good variation, I had the homemade lamb kofta, my wife and her friend had the roast dinner deal (£16 for a soup starter,a roast dinner and a pudding after) which was excellent value, the other person in our party had the mixed grill and we all really enjoyed it.

Had a homemade rag pudding, which was delicious, and my mum had hunters chicken, which she said was very good.

Great home cooked food. Great prices.

Brilliant steak and onion sandwiche on ciabatti. Chips are something else. Proper potatoes. £10.95, bargain, washed down with 2 pints of st george bitter.

Had no idea of it's existence until 3 weeks ago. I'm sure we will be visiting on regularly visit. The food (steak and kidney rag puddings for all plus choc orange cake and apple pie for dessert) were all fantastic. Some of the best pub food we've had anywhere.

Nice to come back after a ten year gap with Julian's family now all grown up. Superb food and drink as usual at bargain prices. (gravy on the Sunday roast to die for) generous meat and vegan chicken portions, superbly cooked and delivered on a busy Sunday in just 20 mins. Still my favourite pub in the UK.

A beautiful pub / resturant, very welcoming and cosy atmosphere. Lovely to see the original bar and fireplace. The food was delicious and offered local dishes, using local produce. Definitely recommend it as it was also dog friendlt

Eaten here a couple of times after long walks in surrounding countryside. The food is average at best & sometimes poor, which is a shame as its a lovely old pub. Had fish & chips this time, which wasn't the best, dry fish with few bones & warm but not hot mushy peas. I can't help think the menu size is an issue it's way too big to cook so many dishes well. It's often a point made by top chefs on these kitchen nightmare programmes & can see their point. Less is more.

Having been here before, we were looking forward to our Sunday roast. However, we were dismayed as soon as we arrived, to find the bartender seemed very inexperienced, and struggled with four drinks. We all ordered our food at the same time, but three mains arrived, more or less together, leaving the fourth eagerly awaited…..I was served two incorrect meals, and only got the one I ordered as my family finished theirs?? Then we had to ask for my pudding…. Such a shame, after such positive experiences in the past …..

Excellent vibe. There was a lovely fire on the go which was very pleasant on a cold afternoon! The lady behind the bar was absolutely hilarious and very welcoming. Just what we needed mid-hike!

Very very disappointed Medium fish, chips and peas Pudding, chips and peas Both meals had Chips which were rock hard and Crunchy. Complained to the waitress who advised we could have some more chips, but would have to wait 10 minutes (Didn’t offer to change our meals) We declined the chips as the rest of the meal would have gone cold. Only ate the fish and the pudding and peas. Plates with all the chips returned. When we asked for the bill, there was no reduction just full price for the meal. After airing our disappointment, eventually knocks off £3 for a totally spoilt meal Needless to say, will not return And certainly will not recommend Poor
