Daniel, Stephan and Summer made our visit absolutely beautiful! It was my boyfriends 30th birthday and wanted to treat ourselves and him after moving close to uppermill. I forgot to put on my booking notes that it was my boyfriends 30th birthday and after an undercover request, they made everything so special after our meal. But then again, it was from start to finish. What a lovely bunch and thank you so much!!!

14 Apr update Quiet Monday. Ambience good despite quiet. Nice greeting. Good selection of dishes. Unfortunately, the B Team was in the kitchen and serving. Server didn't know the offers or dish of the day. New I suspect but left without adequate training. Meals not stand out and onion rings inedible and cold. A slice of frozen roly poly for £8 a little cheeky. Average to poor compared to sister restaurant Salt. Needs to up game with their 20£ pie and chips. Prev visit. The good was really exceptional. I don't normally do mothers day out as too busy, poor menu and and poor service. Not here... Really good flavours, good value. Opened my eyes and will deffo be back. Need more like this place in the area.

This is usually my favourite place to eat in Uppermill but unfortunately we visited on Mother’s Day and I’m not sure we will return, the food was cold and when they served us another dish it was the poorest toast dinner I have eaten, the lamb was a plate of fat, the roast potatoes were powder and the cauliflower cheese tasted like it was from a packet. No one asked if it was ok so we just left it and went hungry, we noticed most roast dinners left as we were leaving…….. not sure what’s happened???? Very poor.

Booked a table here with family including my 5 year old Granddaughter. Upon arrival we were shown to a table with high bench seats which were very slippy. We asked about sitting at a lower table, there was one available near us, only to be told we should have stipulated this when booking. After sitting at the table for over 5 minutes we had to ask for a menu and were told they only had 2 to give us. We eventually got 3. We then waited another 15/20 minutes and again had to ask to give our order. While waiting the inevitable and our Granddaughter slipped of the leather seats and banged her chin on the table. Known of the staff showed any concern. This was the final straw so we got up and left after complaining to the so calledManager.

Absolutely awful visit today. Our family had booked in advance and mentioned we had a small child. When we arrived we were put on a high table which was unsuitable. When we asked for another table we were spoken to rudely and advised to choose a low table next time we booked despite there being no option for this when we booked. We had to ask for menus after being left for a considerable time and then were not served for a long time despite there being 5 staff members stood doing minor tasks (folding napkins, talking) by the till nearby. Before our food could arrive my child slipped and hurt her chin on the high table. We had been careful due to the hight but the seat was slippery. When we mentioned this to a manager we were then left and ignored until we chose to leave. Appalling behaviour. We chose to go to another restaurant just a few doors down and relieved the best service from the wonderful staff and had a brilliant meal. I left a glowing, very positive review for them as it just highlighted how much better they were than this pub. I would highly suggest that you go just a few doors down and avoid the Waggon completely.

A lively friendly evening, great staff with a sense of humour. Very attentive, professional slick and unobtrusive service with a smile. The food was delicious from what would appear to be a very competent kitchen crew. The beer battered was one of the best we’ve tasted, salads extremely tasty and fresh leaves. The tartare sauce was delicious, all the food was freshly prepared and served with style. Well done team Waggon.

Recent visit Certain meals where food the starters were nice as was the pie and the roast dinners but the burgers were terrible no taste and just lacked everything to be honest. Service wasn’t great waiting 15 minutes for our table which I could see was ready 10 minutes before I had to ask if we were able to be seated had to as a lot for things such as more drinks sauces food that wasn’t brought out dessert menus then to actually order desserts the experience really wasn’t worth what it cost and a lot of the time staff members where grouped together chatting when tables clearly needed attention definitely room for improvement

WOW! If you’re visiting the greater Manchester area or the city centre and want a place to rest before trekking through the big city…. THIS IS YOUR PLACE ! Met by friendly staff that genuinely looked happy to be there, the lovely waitress Milly had her work cut out for her between my brother in law “the food snob” and my mother in law the “Mrs everything on the side”. I was stunned by her self awareness, poise, appropriate humour and excellent customer service skills. She kept the whole experience moving at an organic pace the entire table felt comfortable with. On the whole, we all ended up eating far more good food than we had planned and taking her up on a lot of her excellent recommendations!! Even to the point that after our few days in Manchester City centre, on the way back home we wanted to head back to the waggon inn and try some of the sandwiches Milly had recommended us. This place boasts great atmosphere, nice decor, crowd pleasing food and delicious dishes, all tied together with fantastic service. Thanks again !! Be back soon !!

Although we live in the area this was the first time we had visited The Waggon for many years. As soon as we arrived we were made welcome by all staff and shown to a lovely table. Ordered drinks and my husband chose beer and treacle glazed ham with a perfectly cooked poached egg and I had the 3 cheeses cheese and onion pie. Both dishes came with triple fried chips and vegetables which were absolutely delicious and presented beautifully. The manager and our very helpful waitress checked a couple of times whether everything ok. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal, great service and a lovely atmosphere. It was my husband’s birthday and a nice surprise was the special platter wishing him Happy Birthday. We’ll definitely be going again and would recommend to everyone.

Couldn't believe how good the service was! We'd booked a work Christmas meal, and whilst such meals are often disappointing, this one was excellent - the food was beautifully prepared and presented, with all special requests followed up, and the restaurant was well-managed despite being busy. The staff were even more impressive than the food - attentive, friendly, super-efficient, bringing the dishes out by customer name rather than needing us to remember what we'd ordered, and even remembering who was who for the next course. We felt like old friends by the time we left! Definitely going back again.

Was looking forward to lunch here last week but the beer battered fish was TBH disgusting. The batter was thick, spongy, soft and rubbery. As far away from beer batter as you can imagine. As a local and having enjoyed nice meals and good service in the Waggon before today, tonight’s visit was a real disappointment. My wife and I both ordered Cajun Chicken which came with a salad and fries, Cajun chicken is something we enjoy as we BBQ a lot, tonight’s offering was so lightly spiced that you could hardly taste it and at £21 a pop it was well overpriced. Also the service was awful, the 2 younger girls serving didn’t look over once to see if we needed anything despite serving the table next to us. They did offer to change the meals when they eventually came to our table but it was too late by then, I thought after we complained that they would adjust the bill but to no avail. We will give the place a miss for a while now until it gets better reviews.

At first glance this seemed a nice place to grab dinner. The actual layout is nice enough with tables reasonably spaced and a bar area. That’s about all I can say that’s positive. We were shown to a table by a young girl who was polite enough, she then took our order. Luckily my partner checked the order with her to find she had confused a club sandwich with a rump steak, on top of that the drinks order was wrong. After a considerable wait the food arrived. My partners sandwich was nice enough but there was no sign of her chips or onion rings. After another considerable wait and after asking she over heard the waitress saying she’d forgotten to order them. Yet when my partner asked she was told they were on the way! By this time I’d discovered that cheese and onion pie was a sloppy undercooked mess, it came with triple cooked chips, some of which were not even cooked once and beans. Congratulations the beans were nice! In short they are serving sub par pub grub at decent restaurant prices with service that is well below par. DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND AVOID.

The main made up for the poor starter. The chicken wings were shocking. If I hadn't already ordered a main I would have left. Came in a think batter that was soggy with the sauce and chicken was brown and way overcooked. I wouldn't have served it.My filet was beautiful though and cooked to perfection. My wife had the Sunday roast and was very impressed. Cauliflower cheese was poor. No bechamel just a bit of cream poured over boiled cauliflower and cheese melted on top. Cocktails were ok not good. Old fashioned had a glacé cherry instead of a maraschino. Passionfruit Marguerita had a salt rim. Didn't work. Change for a sugar rim

We visited the Waggon for breakfast as it was my birthday. We’d prebooked the table. On arrival we were told we would be seated at high stools. I explained that my elderly mother who has a disability would not be able to sit on a stool. Although they did change the table we were told that we should have explained this at the booking stage as this question is asked. This is not true. There is no such question at the booking stage. We then waited over 15 mins to receive menus and only received drinks after 30 mins. It’s was 1 hour and 15 mins before our breakfast arrived. They were cold and my mum who is vegetarian had bacon on her plate which she hadn’t ordered. Staff were stood around whilst others were run off their feet. It seems they have designated roles. So if the bar is not busy, the bar staff can just stand around chatting. Very poor service and cold food. Disappointing!

Amazing food and service. Could not fault anything. The staff there are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Reasonable price’s excellent quality with a good atmosphere. Plenty of choices on the menu with a large range of beverages.

Came here on a Saturday evening with my parents to celebrate their anniversary. We all loved it. The atmosphere was great , staff were attentive and helpful and the food was lovely. Would definitely come again for a special occasion.

Travelled from Lincolnshire for a family reunion owing to recommendation. Food was poor after waiting one hour from ordering. Manager assisted in our complaint and gernerously reduced the bill. I like to think it was a one off, but the manager was kind and helpful. Thank you.

Very disappointed there was no ham hock pasta on the menu, was unimpressed with what was on menu. Don’t know what was inside ravioli but it didn’t taste anything like lobster.

Been this afternoon and had a bite to eat. Have to say very disappointed. Had the soup which was Pea and mint was very bland and watery. Then had garlic bead with cheese and have to say couldnt taste any garlic. Have eaten here in the past and its been lovely but today left very disappointed. Won't be in a rush to have food here again.
