The Turks Head in Oldham

We go regularly, and find this place good value for money. The staff are lovely especially the waiting on staff who seem to put up with some extremely rude customers who you would think were paying Michelin star prices. The atmosphere and layout is lovely and we never have to wait before being asked if we need a drink, if foods okay etc.

We booked for 6pm for 6 people. 7. 30 we got our meal that had been microwave several times and was un eatable. Rubbish service. Would not reccomand or eat something from them again. It. All of it was ruined and rubbish. Discussing food and service. Complaining doesn't work either but you do get a mint each. 44 pound per couple for poor service and rubbish food..

As a party of 4 adults we went for lunch, having booked for 1pm. We all had different experiences with the food, hence the 3-point overall score. One meal, the steak pie, was rated very good; two meals, lasagne, had obviously been heated up in the microwave, making them extremely hot (burning tongue hot) & very dry & hard around the edges. The final meal was braised steak. The meat looked lovely, but in fact was extremely dry & stringy & a good portion had to be left. To give credit to the chef, we were told he was not happy with it & that meal was refunded. Where we were very unhappy was the service. Our waitress was very friendly, but we were sat with the menus for a long time before our first course order was taken. Once finished, we then had a long wait before anyone came back to the table so we could ask for the dessert menu. These appeared & we were again left to wait for our order to be taken. During this time most of the diners were leaving & eventually we appeared to be the only ones left. We were sat in a corner in the window. It wasn't until a different waitress came to start cleaning the table behind that we were able to order. As she took our order, at the same time she told us the restaurant closed at 3:00 pm. It was now 2:45 pm. We were all taken aback by this rude comment & the unnecessary way in which it was delivered, especially as the time situation was entirely brought about by themselves & their poor service. The two desserts, sticky toffee pudding & custard (which were very nice), one cappuccino & one decaf tea, we're delivered by this second waitress. As we started to eat & drink the lights started to go out!! The men were able to finish their puddings, as they were only warm, not hot, but the ladies were unable to finish their drinks as they were very hot, especially the cappuccino. We felt extremely rushed & it was an awful end to having a meal & catching up with friends. On leaving there were only the two young waitresses visible by the bar, & as we were saying our farewells outside, they followed us out. All the above totally spoilt the whole experience.

Four of us had lunch here. Unfortunately the food for one of us was not satisfactory. When we were asked if we enjoyed our meals my friend mentioned this. They took this meal off the bill which was good of them, and not what my friend was looking for. We were asked if we wanted desserts and we were given the dessert menu. When the waitress didn't come back for our order after about 15 minutes we caught the eye of another waitress on her way to clean a table. We gave her our order and she informed us that the place closed at 3.00pm, just less than 20 minutes off. Five minutes later we got our desserts and hot drinks. We felt rushed. We had booked a table for 1.00 and the whole process was dictated by the speed in which our orders were taken and the food served. At about 2.55 they turned the lights out and so we took the hint and got up and left, leaving one of the drinks which was too hot to drink. I consider this to be very rude.

Brilliant place to eat or just go for a pint . The service is great and the food is excellent and pretty good value for money 💰 Book early to avoid disappointment 😀 Booked a table under the new owners and I didn't think it could improve but wow absolutely fantastic food and service will be using again a truly honest gentleman and staff table booked 14/10/ 24

Food excellent and staff friendly and efficient. One small suggestion - cheese and onion pie is tasty but it would be nice to have an imaginative alternative - our veggie friends don't want the same meal on every visit! Overall an enjoyable visit and pleasant atmosphere.

Buffet meal following a funeral. Food was refreshed regularly. Bar was opened specifically for the funeral party.

Fab for home made hearty food, pies are a winner for me, service is great they have a number of outside seats where u can dine if the weather is ok

Brilliant evening. The decor is lovely. Staff are friendly and helpful. Best of all the food was amazing. There was a varied menu and everything was delicious. Good quality food and well presented.

First time going since the new owners took over. The food is still gorgeous and the atmosphere is relaxed. Our goats cheese salads, lamb hotpot and rag pudding were beautiful.

Lovely friendly staff, excellent service. I would definitely recomend for traditional pub grub with a relaxed atmosphere.

Ordered drinks and food but had to wait 1hr 20mins for our food to get to the table, won't be going to The Turks Head again..

I have had lamb chops tonight from the specials board at £17.95 I did complain and the Manager did come over and speak to me about I advised they were very hard to chew as though they hadnt been cooked properly they were tough Tha Manager did takes these off the bill so I felt I was listened too

First time eating at The Turks since the new owners, and must say, quite disappointing. Food is not the same standard as before, very average, cheaper suppliers maybe or different chefs (stated the same chefs). Waiting staff leaning across members of my party, rather than from behind. Long wait for order to be taken. Had to prompt the young lady to take our order. Longer wait for the food to arrive and plates to be removed. Won't be going back any time soon, which is a shame as this was a family favourite and visited several times a year

I’ve eaten at the Turks head quite a few times and have always loved the food until today. Myself and my family all had the beef Sunday dinner - it was a struggle to cut the beef and everything else was frozen food (the veg, roasts, mash was all poor quality), the gravy was bland too. My dad who I was with didn’t want me to complain there and then but it really was very disappointing.

Wow what an amazing establishment, I came in for a chicken burger and chips and my word it did not disappoint!!!!! Extremely quick service and very polite waiting staff The food was absolutely delicious. Very good prices aswell Would come again

Ordered Gammon only to be told 5 minutes later they had run out. So I had Thai fish cakes,they were delicious.

What a shame it wasn’t at all like it used to be ….my steak on the peppered steak was very tough , hard to cut it let alone chew it . My hubby had mixed grill and his steak was tough too. Our deserts we were told were still frozen so we had to choose something else …service was very poor ….we had to wait long periods from wanting to order, to waiting for someone to clear when we had finished our first course. We then had to wait till they come back to ask for a dessert menu …. Then we ended up having to get up. And go get the waitress to ask if we could order . Altogether we was in there for two and half hours . When we went to pay she asked was everything ok , I did mention the steak and the service, all she said was I’m sorry but we are just in the process of changing our meat supplier as they wasn’t happy with who they were using . Still charged us £126 …very disappointed

We went for a meal, inside was decent enough and clean. Food was just average but a bit tasteless, I had to keep putting some salt on my meal which is very unusual for me. Don't think we'll be going back anytime soon.

The service was friendly and prompt and we were always asked if we needed anything else which is perfect for the chaos of our big party including two small children. Can’t wait for our next trip there.

Went to the Turk Head for fathers day the service was very slow plates were cold some of the food was okay.Ordered tia fishcakes off the starter menu as a main meal unfortunately the fishcake was burnt and very hard so was sent back and refused a replacement and was surprised to be charged £8-45 on the bill for the fishcake.Sorry will not be returning.

Food is not as good as before We have been having family meals here for years but dont think the ambience is the same The food is lacking in taste and to charge a £1 fir a pot of mayo is ridiculous I asked for a jacket potato with my salmon but I was told they dont do then It was never any trouble before Wont be bothering spending my money here anymore shane because it used to be so nice

Went today with our Friends. My wife and i both had the salad. Few wines and a sweet. The food and the service was excellent. The waitress looked after us really well. Friendly and chatty. Will definetly be going again Thank You.

Decided to call in today , bank holiday Monday wasn’t packed out as previous visit , food was nice and tasty, but most of all for me hot. Service was speedy, polite staff. Plenty of choice on menu and specials menu. Thanks.

Went for tea after seeing good reviews. 2 of us had sea bass from the specials menu which was bland and like everything was boiled.. skin on fish was slimy and prawns over cooked and rubbery. Veg seemed like it was frozen and potatoes boiled to within an inch of their life! Had to ask for butter as it was so bland and dry. The other member of our party had steak with peppercorn sauce, the sauce was so gloopy you could have laid bricks with it. Told the waitress it was bland and dry and not worth £85 she just said really!! Definitely never going back there again was so disappointed.

Such a lovely place for any occasion. The staff are lovely, the food is mostly traditional and delicious. I had the lamb hotpot, probably the best I've had. I would recommend the pale lager.

Just had a lovely meal there. 3 courses for us all. Lovely Easter weekend treat. Never been here before but saw a post on Facebook and thought we'd give it a try. Lovely inside and very clean. Service was attentive and the food was delicious! New landlady Chloe who's doing a great job. Thanks again, we'll be back soon.

The pub serves honest pub grub ,granted there was a small hiccup with our order but in fairness the manager comped the atmosphere is a little too pub and not enough restaurant perhaps it's different on a Sunday we tried a Saturday

Can't believe I've never heard about this pub..went with 4 friends ..we all had different food from the menu and we are all blown away ...fantastic food, attentive staff , beautiful decor ...

Terrible! Wouldn’t recommend to family and friends (in fact just the opposite) and we will certainly not be going there again. My friend and I went around 4.30/5pm on a Saturday evening recently. We hadn’t booked. There were some people sitting at the bar chatting to staff and maybe 3/4 diners. We waited for a member of staff and explained that we would like a table for two and that we hadn’t booked. Independently of each other we both felt as if we were putting this person to a lot of trouble because of how he was with us. It certainly wasn’t welcoming and I felt then like saying we wouldn’t bother. We ordered one of the ‘specials’ - sea bass with garlic king prawns at £15 plus. The guy took our order and we each had a drink from the bar. Our meals arrived with chips and veg. The chips and veg (broccoli) looked and tasted like they had been cooked from frozen in a microwave. The fish and prawns were just ok. Nothing was ‘special’ about this meal. We both ate the fish and the prawns but left a lot of the chips and broccoli. The member of staff who took our plates away didn’t ask us about our meal. Maybe she realised from our plates that we hadn’t enjoyed it. We paid and left. It was such an unpleasant experience. It was my friend’s birthday and I was visiting to look after my elderly mother who had recently been discharged from hospital. We didn’t want to enter into any kind of dialogue with staff who didn’t seem to care we just wanted to leave and put the experience behind us. However on reflection other people should be made aware and therefore this review is made for them. If the staff can be bothered then maybe they will reflect on how they deal with their customers and improve their reception and food.

Called into this pub for lunch following a recommendation and had a very good lunch on Tuesday. The food was very good and well priced and the young barman and waitress were excellent. Would definitely recommend. to others

It was ok bit expensive for a pub !

Enjoyed a good pub lunch here. I had a local dish of "Rag Pudding" with a couple of pints of Wainwright. Looking forward to coming back!

We usually visit the Turks head 2/3 times a year and it’s always good. Nice friendly atmosphere and good service. The food is always excellent and well presented. Prices are reasonable, we had starters, mains and a bottle of wine for £63. Definitely worth a visit.

Wow, what a meal, perfect atmosphere and food was amazing the landlady was extra kind and kept giving me come to bed eyes over the bar. I had something off the specials board and it was cooked to perfection had a right laugh with the locals and it was brill!! Definitely be visiting again soon

We make a point of visiting local pubs weekly this week was the Turks head food was beige and bland.. pumpkin soup was nice.. cheese & onion pie was bland couldn’t taste cheese beans left under heat lamp with a film on top.. Oven chips not proper home made chips.. young girl who shown us to our seats was the only one who actually smiled the other woman serving food was clearly not happy to be there… no one asked if our food was ok. No atmosphere older clientele…

We have the pleasure of visiting different pubs every Friday, we had to wait to book as the week before it was fully booked so we had pretty high expectations especially reading the previous reviews, the service is quick but very formal not much in the way of smiles and politeness , the food was bland, wet warm lettuce not fresh and crisp as it should, chips are oven chips not fresh potatoes, beans had a film were they had been sat under a heat lamp or something, never asked if the food was ok during or after our meal,the starters I had was pea and ham soup which was very poor although my wife had the pumpkin and carrot soup which was slightly better to be fair, the atmosphere is full of locals hardly anyone under the age of 65 it did feel like a posh co-op waiting room or residential home, cleanliness is average although wiping my finger on the blinds did leave dirty black mark on my finger, unfortunately we won’t be going again as the price is very much similar to other venues which unfortunately are a lot better

Underwhelming food and service and apparently not fond of children, we left feeling we had really put them out. Prices seemed fair but the food portions were on the small side.

Lovely little place.. we came in as a group of 12. Had a lovely lad serving us, always pleasant and smiling. Took a while for food, but there were a lot of us. I had a Sunday dinner and, for some reason, found it extremely salty and couldn't finish it. But then again, everyone else seemed to enjoy theirs.

Took my mum for dinner on Sunday. I told the lady that served us that it was one of the best Sunday dinners I'd ever had. It was absolutely beautiful. Spotlessly clean place. Nice decor. Has a cosy air about it. Lunch with friends & what a great choice of venue we made. I had Prawn with Marie Rise sauce Sandwich. So fresh & tasty. Salad on the side & some lovely fries. Couldn’t resist a dessert. Whinberry Pie with Custard went down a treat. Reasonably priced too. Pleasant staff & special shout out to Caroline for her welcoming words & friendly manner.

Theakstons Best & Wainwright's are the main "beers" & Heineken & Moretti. Food excellent home cooked, braising steak & the cheese & onion pie were spot on ! Most impressive was the service , the staff were very attentive & really keen to serve ASAP & not keep you waiting, & remembered your last drinks. Keen & polite is rare these days ! Top marks, see you again soon.

Came here on the bank holiday of the Kings coronation. Managed to book a table for the Saturday evening. We were shown to our table which was out of the way of other diners which was fine with us as it was really busy. Didn't have to wait long for food and drinks which was good. Food was nice,not overly big portions but just enough for us. Price about average for pub grub. Decent menu with plenty of choice.

The place you take your grandma and the kids. We had Sunday dinner x 3.. Lovely as i said. Sack the chef.. hes holding back on the roasties! Tight as a ducks buttocks

Food not that good. Waitress was nice but miserable bar staff and closed the bar at 10pm so we had to leave. We was a party of 8 too so big round to turn away.
