Went for late lunch first timers, Loved it great value will definitely be going back .

We had sunday dinner here , my partner had roast beef, and I had probably the best steak and ale pie I have ever had. Great food, good atmosphere and excellent staff 1o out of 10

By far the best establishment for miles around. We were lucky enough to get married here and Christina & Barry made it a wonderful occasion and they were such phenomenal hosts going out of their way to make the day so special! The food was fabulous and great drinks all in chocolate box surroundings. Just lovely ❤️

Ok so where to start. I had been to the pub earlier to drop a cake off before we came for the meal so it would be a surprise for my dad’s birthday , I gave his name and the time of the booking which was only an hour away to the waitress. When we arrived we were shown to our table, drinks ordered, meals ordered no problem. We had ordered 3 Sunday roasts and a gammon meal and the food was delicious however the roasts were not very warm when one of our group mentioned this to the landlady she said we should have mentioned this to the waitress earlier. But what would they have done taken them and nuked them in microwave leaving one person eating their meal alone? Her tone was also very patronising not particularly friendly. 2 of our group ordered sweets. I asked for the cake to be brought out and the landlady said I didn’t say when I brought it who it was for I pointed out that I had told their waitress. No apology received. Then we waited and we waited I eventually told a waitress that if the cake did not arrive soon we wouldn’t be paying for the meal. By this time dad had worked out what was going on spoiling the surprise. Eventually the cake was brought plonked on the table shoved in front of my dad no candles no effort not even a happy birthday said. We then had to wait ages for the 2 sweets to be brought out. When we had finished our meal we asked did they have the box the cake came in and they brought it back boxed up but they had even managed to rip the box. The food was delicious but the lunch was ruined by the atrocious attitude of the landlady. Such a shame as we have been here many times and had a lovely time.

Had chicken grill..beautiful...hot tasty... Friend had fish n chips..really huge fish,too much but really enjoyed...thanks all. f.o.h girls really lovely and very welcoming.

Came upon this place as we went for a walk that we've never done before and I'm so glad we found it! We were welcomed, seated and served fantastic food. Service was outstanding, food was amazing - super tasty, huge portion size too alongside a brilliant gluten free menu. They also have a dog menu!!!! It's not "around the corner" for us but it's definitely worth the trip!

I'd read about their pies but I still wasn't ready for this! Not for the faint-hearted! But, plenty of other stuff on the menu which looked good - from peeking at other tables.

What a great pub,the food is excellent and tge staff are very welcoming, on the Sunday we didn't have a booking but they squeezed us in.The menu is extensive,covering every aspect of the cuisine,being g Sunday I had the roast of the day and my wife had the sea bass,could not fault tge food and service.

Only stopped in for a drink. Lovely staff excellent beer. Also the toilets are exceptionally clean.

Love this place, always book when we are up visiting family and never fails. Always greeted by friendly help staff. It's not and extensive menu but has something for everyone. Service and food are always outstanding and great value too. Pub it's self is beautiful and old charm and this is carried through inside with the decor.

Been here a few times now with friends and family. Food is always excellent, good selection of drinks, some outside seating, and also dog friendly. More than happy to recommend this place.

Really nice atmosphere. Lovely friendly staff and the food was out of this world. We popped in without booking and they were booked up but said we could have a table but they needed it for a booking in an hour. We took it and I'm so glad we did... I've found my new favourite place to eat! All the staff look very professional and efficient. We were served quickly and the food was piping hot. We got the beef Sunday roast which was absolutely delicious. Then we had the ginger and apple dessert and my only regret there was that we shared it!! We will be back. Very highly recommended.

Called in on the drive back to Manchester for something to eat. The service was spot on and the food was fist class. Friendly helpful staff and reasonable prices for food and drink.

Just had a lovely meal. The staff are lovely and caring, one of our party was unwell and had to leave. The staff were fantastic will definitely be back. Make sure you are hungry when you visit as the portions are large. We will definitely be back

We stopped off here for a drink after a walk in the surrounding area, initially having our drink in the sunny beer garden out at the front before finishing off inside once it got a bit cooler. The beer garden at the front is on the roadside but is well maintained and has some nice views of the hills just behind - also seems like it's quite a sun trap 🌞 Once inside, we were so impressed with the decor of the pub, a perfect mix of old world charm, inviting and cosy with very clear attention to detail paid throughout. We will definitely be back for a meal in the future and couldn't recommend visiting here enough. Friendly staff who were also lovely to our dog who was welcomed into certain areas of the pub too. (Dog friendly. Beer garden. Family friendly. Pub meals.)

Manchester craft beers and a pie the size of a house brick! Rarely am I out done by pastry, and this was excellent pastry but the amount of meat and pastry finished me off! Everyone's food was very good, dogs were fussed, and the atmosphere is cosy and friendly.

I had the "butcher's board" (£20) for lunch. Chicken wings were awful; like rubber and I think they'd just been thrown into a deep gfat fryer. Crispy duck was anything but; mushy, moist and tasteless. Sausages tasted of....... erm nothing. Garlic bread - the most bland I've ever had. Kofta was ok. Polite feedback was given to the waitress but don't think the slightest bit of notice was taken. Went to wash hands; no liquid soap in dispenser and no alternative. Asked a waitress for some; she mentioned it to the landlord who didn't move from his seat in another room. The waitress kindly brought me some in a glass from the kitchen. Won't be going back here.

Great place, really dog friendly, I've had a number of good meals here, only small point is sometimes a bit slow with the bill.

We went for my Mum’s birthday last week. The booking was for 18 people. When we arrived we were seated in 2 booths and a table. We had to sit 2 people on the end or there would have been 2 people excluded from sitting near us. The waitress came over and took the first tables order, the second order was children’s and before the third table ordered the first tables food arrived. The food was very staggered as by the time the third tables food had arrived the first table had finished. The children’s chicken nuggets came out different (some nuggets, some chunks and some a mix). The staff were friendly and helpful just not great for a large booking. The meal had been booked in advance so it was slightly disappointing the experience we received.

Disappointed. Booked a table, 5 mins after we arrived we were pushed to order because 'there was another party after us'. Drinks service was quick, so was starters. Huge delay until mains, however the food was very hit and miss. Chicken Wings were disgusting and hardly had any chicken on, lamb koftas were dry and tough, sausages seemed freezer bought rubbish, pie was stacked but the pastry inedible, chicken katsu had one good bit of chicken and one terrible bit. Puddings were a bit bland. Worst of all the maitre'd was just strange. She had no positivity, didn't ask how we were or how it was, couldn't seem to get rid of us quick enough, she was just a very strange presence and by the end, we all thought we had pissed her off without having done anything wrong - even the kids were well behaved. The rest of the waitresses were lovely and willing to help. Very disappointed as we were really looking forward to this.

Meet up with friends. Tuesday night visit. Lovely spacious dog friendly pub. Service great, 1st day for a new member of staff & she did really well. Crispy duck wrap starter, very good & not a morsel left. I had the fish platter, massive & all really well presented & cooked. Hard to fault. £30 per person including couple of drinks & coffee, all in all that’s good value for quality food & service.

Been a couple of times now for a meal , it was a toss up between the rag pudding or chicken dinner for me .....husband had the rag , I had the chicken dinner and I have to say its probably the BEST Sunday roast I've ever had AND it was only £15 😋

Late lunch following a dog walk and it was lovely. They happily accommodated 3 people and 4 dogs. Good sized portions for dog treats of chicken and sausages. Steak and ale pie was suet pastry and loads of melt in the mouth steak and the rag pudding was well received as well. We followed up with a couple of sticky toffee puddings with custard, very tasty and enough to share after a very filling main course. We haven’t been for a bit but it was good and we will definitely be back again.

Not been for a while and used to be a lot better. Cider tasted flat . For some reason they like to save the proper glasses for beer on the top shelf and serve half pints in those awful long plain glasses made for soft drinks . Please don’t do that it’s very off putting . Half a craft should be in a proper beer glass you have lots of them so use them. Food just ok used to be a lot better not sure what’s changed

Some biker friends and me stuck here during a snowstorm, they welcomed us dirty bunch openly and the service was fantastic.

A lovely cosy and very friendly place. we was welcomed by very friendly staff there was 10 of us and nothing was too much, the food was lovely the best Sunday lunch and plentiful. Thank you for a lovely day we all enjoyed it very much.

Lovely little pub, very cosy interior and looks like the outside seating area would be nice in the summer months. The service was friendly and attentive, food was very good - other half had the comfort haddock and I had the cheese and onion pie. There’s a lot of pubs in this area with great pies but pleased to say this was up there with the better ones. It was also nice to see a couple of dishes that I’ve not seen elsewhere like rabbit and a game hot pot which I’d like to try next time. Only slight grumble was the chicken nuggets on the kids menu seemed just like frozen ones where some other pubs we visit have been using “home made” ones….not that our daughter complained, she still enjoyed them. All in all, worth a visit and would go back.

Called in on the chance there was a free table for a hot sandwich and drink as we have been several times before and it’s usually good Was shown to table ordered food which wasabi two sandwiches on beef baguette and fish sandwich sandwiches arrived short time later looked impressive however the beef baguette was more fat than beef what could be salvaged and as staff came to ciear the plates we mentioned the large amount of fat found in the dry baguette to the member of staff , she didn’t apologise and only said she’d mention it to the chief as we paid for the food the same staff member said the chief wood look at it but I’m sure he’d have looked at it as he put it on the baguette, it was disappointing that they still didn’t apologise or offer a reduction in in price of the food It’s put is off going there again and feel that others should be mindful if they go there

Fantastic food fair prices and good service good atmosphere and logs fire just perfect it is a beautiful pub in a very good location also you can come for some nice drinks .

I broke down on the junction and these guys were great. They let me use their facilities and gave me a warm drink. Later when I was waiting for the RAC I came in for lunch and had what I can only describe as the best (and biggest!) steak pie I’ve ever had!

Love this pub, been many of times and always have such a great experience. On our last visit there was a little change to the menus and the food quality was the same as ever. The staff are always lovely and always I recommend the pub to everyone!

Excellent food from start to finish. Great service and a good selection. The butchers board was a nice change from the usuals. My son and husband said the salt and chicken burger was a winner.

Young staff waiting on very polite and professional very helpful with the menu. Had Sunday lunch beef a little tough to cut and plates hadn't been warmed but the rest was very nice. The landlady was constantly watching us and was very abrupt the Landlord was lovely and very welcoming Dessert was lovely.

Great service, lovley food. One of the group had eaten some food but the beef was no to their liking. No issue exchanged for another meal and no charge. Will be back.

Lovely pub / restaurant. food was amazing with a varied menu, I had the rabbit stew, not had that for years and it was delicious. It was lovely and warm in the restaurant but we were hoping for the fire to be lit. But hopefully next time 😜 only moved to the area 3 months ago and still trying out new places, this is definitely up there with the best so far. We'll be back

I was with a fairly large group and we were served well by friendly, efficient staff, my meal was well presented and tasty.

Really nice place. Stumbled past in by chance after a walk around the reservoirs and very glad we did. Muddy paws and boots very much welcome, which is lucky because we had planned to stop at a pub en route but it didn’t welcome muddy walkers! We had vegan meatballs, and a delicious soup. Very reasonably priced and fantastic staff.

Were in 4th Nov 23, first time for me but not the people I was with who said it was quieter than normal. The waitress was so so rude and needs customer service training. 3 of the 5 of us don't eat meat and the menu was lacking in meat free options. And what was on offer was dry and poor and missing items that were defined on the menu. How hard is it to buy a bottle of vegan mayonnaise? I won't be coming again there are nicer places in the area.

Always generous portions, lit candles and water on the tables and dog friendly but unfortunately I didn't enjoy my meal this evening and to my surprise not one of the waitresses asked if everything was OK with our meals ☹

Great looking pub, both inside and out side. Food was excellent both the gammon and the rag pudding. The service from the waitress was excellent, she had good knowledge about the food and drink. Apparently JW Lees beer is an aquired taste which my friend lacked, my wine was fine.

Went for a meal with my husband. It was so delicious, all three courses. Pàte starters, rag pudding chips and mushy peas, followed by ginger and apple cake with ice cream. Staff were lovely and the place was beautiful! Will definitely be going back.

Had a delicious Sunday roast with a group of friends after a relaxing (if drizzly) walk in the beautiful countryside nearby. Its a lovely, traditional English country pub. Service & food are excellent & the prices are not expensive. Will definitely visit again. To all the staff, thanks for your hard work.

Booked birthday meal for 14 at lunchtime, everyone really enjoyed their meal, which was reflected in the healthy tip for the staff. Can, and will, recommend without hesitation. Excellent food, excellent service, excellent ambience.

First time visit whilst visiting family in local area. What a fab find this was! Welcoming, friendly staff, great atmosphere, my meal of pan fried sea bream on a bed of crushed new potatoes was one of the best I've had in ages. Fish & chips is huge! Super dog friendly pub with a doggy menu so our dog got her own meal of sausage & crispy bacon, which she loved. We will definitely be back!

We have visited here many times over the last 18 months and the service and food is always excellent. The pub looks so lovely from the outside especially around Christmas when its lit up. Inside is immaculate too and a lovely peaceful atmosphere.We usually go mid week at lunchtime. One of our favorite places to eat.

Great Sunday roast on a rainy day 🌧️

We passed this pub a few weeks ago when we had been diverted off the M62. It was a sunny day and looked nice so decided to go for lunch next time we were crossing the Pennines. A very worthwhile diversion! We ordered drinks - I had a pint of Lee's "Summer Ale" which tasted a bit tart to me I commented to the lady serving and she offered to exchange (F.O.C.) for the bitter which was fine. The menu was fairly comprehensive and we chose the fish sharing platter. (See 'photo - we had already transferred the hot cod goujons to our plates). It was a lot of food! The lightly-battered cod goujons were fresh out the fryer and was the best batter I have tasted in a long time. Home-made tartare sauce and warm fresh bread. If you are ever crossing the Pennines take the small diversion off the M62 and treat yourself.
