Me and my friend were booked in for one night at the Diggle Hotel, the hospitality we received was outstanding. We were meant with kindness and generosity. We had dinner during our stay that was homemade and delicious. We also had sandwiches made for us for our hike the next day with some added sausage rolls, it was exactly what we needed. Could not recommend this hotel/pub enough!!

We were made to feel very welcome here after a hard day of walking in boiling hot sunshine. Had contacted to say we were en route and would they still be serving food. They said they would keep the kitchen open for us. Even when we arrived much mater than anticipated, we were still offered a reduced choice of food which was very well received. As was the excellent Tiger Ruts beer which we followed our meal with! Friendly landlord/landlady and locals. And only 150 yards to our b&b too. All in all was a great end to a great day. Thanks.

Lovely pub with a really hospitable landlord and landlady. We regularly enjoy the hearty home cooked food - the pies are especially good - proper plate pie too. Good beer selection as well. Went in yesterday after a long journey home from a holiday - the kitchen had just closed and they took pity on us and opened up again to make us dinner. Not many would do that after all the cleaning had been done. Had delicious hot roast beef sarnies, koftas and fries. It was much appreciated and saved our evening. Thank you so much Billy and Sue!

We decided to go after reading the recent article in the Saddleworth Independent about the new ownership, restaurant quality food, value for money etc. All l can say it was very disappointing. When we walked in there was a man facing us putting up the menus on a board, he never even looked at us, no hello, no warm welcome, nothing. In fact it was the cleaner who first said can l help you. This was at 1.00pm on a Saturday lunch, there were only 4 other people in. The main issue was to come, the quality of the sandwiches - Hard crusted white sliced bread with warmed up beef slices out of a packet, at £5.95 for a supposedly hot beef sandwich. When we complained they knock £1.00 off each one because then had been mainly eaten (more because we were hungry than enjoyment). Sorry we won’t be going back.

My parents, their friends and I have visited the diggle every wkend for past 5 years, my mum and our friend have dementia so familiarity is a must! Sadly after todays experience we will not be going again. We arrive around 1.30 when it's very quiet, we generally sit in the small area near kitchen unless its being used as it was today and on our last visit. past few visits all remaining tables have been reserved, bar staff have however happily allowed us to sit at a reserved table knowing we will be gone before customers arrive for booked meals. Today we went to sit near the fire at a reserved table we had used before as the weather was bitterly cold, immediately the new landlord came from kitchen and told us we could not sit there as table reserved, I tried to explain our weekly ritual visit the landlord wudnt listen and told us we had to sit at table in bar area where there were 4 tables of which 3 were also reserved, we moved quite shocked at how we had been spoken to! As we had almost finished our drinks bar staff came over to ask us to move to the original table we had wanted to sit at so they could set up our table ready for meals, I told the young girl what had happened how rudely we were spoken to and how disgusted we were esp at now being asked to move to the original place we had wanted to sit at. we decided not to stay for a 2nd drink. On leaving all the tables were still empty Inc the one by the fire!!! People like us just calling in for a drink do not have much choice of where to sit, some high barrel shape tables and high stool/chairs have been added but the elderly or disabled cannot access these leaving no where for them to sit down!! I am v unhappy and disgusted as we have been regular customers for so long and had built up good relationships with previous landlords now we have to upset mum by changing her regular routine all because of a rather rude man!

This was not the first visit to the Diggle Hotel and it won't be the last. We were greeted with a warm welcome and a fireside seat.

Having checked the opening hours on the website on the previous evening, twelve of us turned up for lunch about 1230 today after completing a walk in the area only to find the doors locked and the place in darkness. On checking a different website (not the pub's own) we established that it was not in fact going to open until 1600.

Landlord happily served 2 hungry hikers even though the kitchen was meant to be closed. Great service, filling steaks, and tasty ale. Very much appreciated

Went with family for our Tuesday night out, the food was excellent I got enough for two meals on one plate. It was great value for money, the staff were very friendly and the service was as good as the food. A must try

It's been some years since I was here, but it still has all the charm and warmth I remember. The fish and chips were tasty - my friend enjoyed the burger and fries too. Friendly and attentive staff and reasonable prices. It's a no frills, take as you find, relaxing pub atmosphere. Great.

We visited one Friday after work. It's a lovely, friendly pub which has a good range of real ales. The view from the beer garden is beautiful & the food is homely. Thoroughly recommend.

I’m not one for leaving a poor review but after today’s visit for Sunday tea at the Diggle, I felt I needed to express my disappointment. After almost being gassed from the furniture polish being used to clean the table next to us, I received my fish , chips and peas for £11:95 as pictured . It was the smallest piece of fish I have ever had so didn’t feel good value. Sunday roast was ok for my husband but had a large portion of beetroot on it which was a bit too much . Scampi ok and got a decent size portion of chips . Burger was average with a small portion of fries . Not once were we asked if everything was ok and the bill was just slipped onto the corner of the table without a word. The Diggle once had a very good reputation for home cooked food so feel they need to up their game again. For £46 for the food not necessarily good value

Our planned hotel for the night had closed down but these guys took us in at very late notice, fed us and went out of their way to accommodate us. Great food, lovely rooms, and a wonderful welcome await you.

Came here this evening. Probably about 10 ish tables in so not mega busy, told on arrival they were out of approximately 40% of the main menu as the chef who ordered the food in had left and not put an order in( for a pub that’s just reopened its doors after previous mismanagement this is not what you want to hear). Was seated quickly , waited about 5 minutes before food and drink orders taken. We only had main meals , ordered a burger with an extra patty. Waited about 15 minutes for drinks to arrive to find the coke was flat. Asked waitress and she changed. Still flat. Didn’t say anything as it clearly wasn’t changing anything. After another 20 minutes I could see other tables who ordered their mains after us got theirs before us. Then a waitress came out and said that there was only 1 patty left and did I want halloumi instead. I begrudgingly agreed. Waited a further 20 minutes for our food to be presumably cooked from then and the burgers came out with patties that looked like they were frozen. The meat was almost rubbery like you’d get from a dodgy takeaway. Usually I wouldn’t mind this after a few pints but with the extras the burger cost 16 quid. Chips, were Luke warm at best and there was about 6. No coleslaw as pictured on Facebook. 2 other party members ordered the steak and ale pie and their meat was tough and chewy. Asked for sauces as not to make a scene and make the best out of a bad situation. 10 minutes later they arrived. All in all poor. Will not be returning even if the ownership changes. After the previous management I didn’t think it could get worse. Boy was I wrong. Also. The pictures I have provided 1 is taken from their Facebook and the other I took of my poor effort of a meal . Poles apart

Sorry to say the food quality isn't brilliant. The service is patchy, but the atmosphere is lively. We hadn't been there for some years but it's not somewhere we could recommend.

We visit the Church Inn regularly with family, on our last visit we had taken two of our grandchildren for lunch. We were disappointed in one of the children’s meals, the fishfingers that he had asked for were of poor quality resulting in them being left, I tried them myself and agreed that they weren’t nice. We ordered ice cream for the children, it was more like frozen water the children left it telling us it wasn’t nice. I tried the ice cream and agreed again it was awful. It’s not cheap eating out, but when some of the food is of poor quality it makes even more expensive. I hope this review is read as constructive rather than negative.

Visited Monday lunchtime (and have done many previous Monday lunchtimes) with my wife, mother in law and dog. The welcome is always warm and friendly, the service is always excellent, it's a gorgeous place to sit, and the food is always absolutely delightful ! The "Moo Monday " steak offer is incredible value and delicious... I would recommend visiting the website for all the menus and offers! A really interesting range of starters, perfectly cooked Steaks, a cracking pint and a fantastic wine list! There is absolutely nothing to dislike about this pub.... Don't be put off by negative stuff written below, go visit, eat, drink and be merry! You'll thank me for it!!👌😊 Keep doing what you do Waggon.... we love it ❤️

As a party of 4 adults we went for lunch, having booked for 1pm. We all had different experiences with the food, hence the 3-point overall score. One meal, the steak pie, was rated very good; two meals, lasagne, had obviously been heated up in the microwave, making them extremely hot (burning tongue hot) & very dry & hard around the edges. The final meal was braised steak. The meat looked lovely, but in fact was extremely dry & stringy & a good portion had to be left. To give credit to the chef, we were told he was not happy with it & that meal was refunded. Where we were very unhappy was the service. Our waitress was very friendly, but we were sat with the menus for a long time before our first course order was taken. Once finished, we then had a long wait before anyone came back to the table so we could ask for the dessert menu. These appeared & we were again left to wait for our order to be taken. During this time most of the diners were leaving & eventually we appeared to be the only ones left. We were sat in a corner in the window. It wasn't until a different waitress came to start cleaning the table behind that we were able to order. As she took our order, at the same time she told us the restaurant closed at 3:00 pm. It was now 2:45 pm. We were all taken aback by this rude comment & the unnecessary way in which it was delivered, especially as the time situation was entirely brought about by themselves & their poor service. The two desserts, sticky toffee pudding & custard (which were very nice), one cappuccino & one decaf tea, we're delivered by this second waitress. As we started to eat & drink the lights started to go out!! The men were able to finish their puddings, as they were only warm, not hot, but the ladies were unable to finish their drinks as they were very hot, especially the cappuccino. We felt extremely rushed & it was an awful end to having a meal & catching up with friends. On leaving there were only the two young waitresses visible by the bar, & as we were saying our farewells outside, they followed us out. All the above totally spoilt the whole experience.
