Came with lots of ladies from our zumba class for our christmas do. The food was excellent. The serving staff were excellent in all departments. Serving food, bringing glasses and water jugs. clearing tables after each course. tremendous.

Food lovely as usual. Fantastic to be able to have this family run enterprise locally. Sue and Mark (the owners) are always welcoming and hospitable. The menu caters for all tastes (in my opinion) from a Sunday Roast to Salt and Pepper chicken burger with sriracha mayo. Yummy. Freshly prepared food. Not out of the deep fat fryer like some establishments. Try their pie of the day (on the board or ask what it is). Deep filled and lovely pastry. This has never failed to please. You can take your pooch with you, mine used to love it. Sat under the table watching the world go round.

I was there earlier in November on a Sundsy afternoon when the weather was extremely gloomy, misty and murky - the pub was essentially in the low lying clouds, and we wouldn't have been surprised to find ourselves at The Slaughtered Lamb (a la American Werewolf in London), but the laughter and chatter didn't stop when we walked in, and we were immersed in a nicely busy, warm and friendly atmosphere. My son and I just had a couple of guiness, but the food we saw being served up looked very appetising, with big servings, and plenty were eating. We've been before and I've heard the food is very good, and we'll be sampling it soon. I got the impression most people knew everybody else, but the staff and locals were all very friendly, made a fuss of our 2 dogs, and coupled with the traditional decor made for a cosy retreat from the grim weather outside. My previous visits had been confined to the beer garden at the back,(on sunny days) which has plenty of tables, a play area, and offers great views of the City centre and its skyscrapers - comfortably in the hazy distance, with plenty of green fields and scenery in between. A really nice pub, I'd recommend it.

Food was homemade style, stunning views, nice down to earth atmosphere, the only downside was some of the staff, not knowing the soup of the day or pie of the day, and sticky tables and on the toilet door, also the young lad behind the bar ignored you at the bar.

Was searching for options in the area for some pub grub. Everywhere seemed to be offering the usual uninspiring menu and we were thinking of just going home. Until we saw the Roebuck menu. Superb! We chose the Fillet of Beef Stroganoff and Braised Beef. Both cooked to perfection and full of flavour. Can't recommend these two dishes enough. For desert we had the apple and berry crumble with custard. Amazing. Really good value for money too. The two mains, 1 dessert, two pints of ale and two large glasses of red wine all for a little over £60 which, I think, is excellent. Staff were brilliant too. Very helpful and attentive waiting staff. Friendly and approachable owners. Absolutely can't fault this place and will definitely be back soon.

Generally this pub/restaurant is good. But when customers arrive with pets/dogs and let them sit on the seats, the staff should take polite action as per the notice by the doorway that a blanket or something must be placed on the seats for the dog if required. Its just not fair on customer without a pet to get dog hairs on their clothes. If they refuse then politely ask them to put dog back in the car or leave. The notice is clear. Also perhaps stop the young children running and screaming around the bar area, customer come here for perhaps a quiet drink and or meal without all this screaming.

After quite a few years revisit was well overdue. Place was packed could only get a table in bar area and that’s at 530pm ! Soup was a delight piping hot Potatoe and leek with a gf roll . Mains I had the lamb shoulder with mash parsnips veg and red currant jus. Lady had salmon creamed leaks with veg . Excellent Kaiken Merlot with a port and brandy followed by cheese board . An excellent few hours , great food excellent service and a roaring open fire 🔥 perfect evening . Will be back Update 11/09/24 Food still very good cannot fault it but service gone down a bit … owner as always a perfect gentleman but young waitresses not very attentive and hopefully this point gets to the owner second time now meal disturbed by young children running about obviously linked to staff with one female with a loud voice shouting after them . People don’t want to see that when paying to eat a meal in peace . On the positive food still great but noise in bar with small kids and poor service spoilt the experience.

We came up for a nice and friendly late afternoon meal and drinks. The food was good and staff great and gave us a warm welcome for a change and also to regulars and newcomers. Then the "Creche" arrived. Young children charging and screaming around the bar area and into the meal side and back to the bar, one of them had a tablet, sitting at the bar with the volume up and what seemed full blast and the staff seemed to be looking after the children instead of looking after customers who were waiting to be served. A responsible adult is urgently needed to look after these out of control children and to keep the noise/volume down.

I was treated to a farewell bite to eat by my son on an early Friday afternoon. Being of a certain age, I've been to the Roebuck many times over the years, probably with big gaps in between so I'm not a regular. What I can state, without exception, is that the steak pudding served here is the best in Oldham, and probably further beyond. I didn't have a starter as they are substantial and came served with chips and mushy peas. The steak filling was full to the top of the pudding and had obviously been cooked for hours, melting in the mouth. The suet pastry was just perfect. You have to wait thirty minutes when ordering one as they have to be steamed but definitely worth the wait and the opportunity to try the blonde bitter which went down very well. It's been a successful pub/ restaurant for many years and will continue to be so. The staff were welcoming, the location is lovely and I wouldn't hesitate to go back if I was in the country.

I'm not usually a Karen and would normally just move on with things but I think the upper management of this pub require a bit of constructive feedback on their own demeanor. Been in here for food a couple of times and all I have to say is I agree with the lady's earlier review - you're only as good as your staff. Only reason we went back was for the food but we will not be back because of the service. From the minute you walk in the door there is just an unfriendly atmosphere and worst of it all the main culprits are upper management - Landlord and landlady. Both incredibly obnoxious and unfriendly. It says dogs allowed online but the minute we sat down with our pup the landlady proceeded to scowl at us from across the bar - baring in mind we were tucked away in the corner and the dog wasn't bothering anyone. Another family walked in (seemingly local as they were letting on to people in the pub) and put their dog on the seat next to them, so we followed suit and did the same. The landlady proceeded scowling and rolling her eyes as she walked past and eventually came over to give us a blanket to put the dog on and said "people" were complaining - you mean yourself? The blanket is absolutely fair enough however the landlord and manager both seen us walk in with the dog and didn't say a word so how were we to know. My mum had accidentally knocked a glass over as the table was sticky and she tried to slide it out of the way so the waitress could lean over and put her plate down, which in fairness, wouldn't have happened if the waitress had just walked round the table to my mums side anyway. Well, the reaction was something to behold. It was like accidents never happen in there! The landlord started helping out and he turned to the waitress and said "was that you or her?", landlord landlady and waitress all looked totally fed up that they had to help and it felt totally unaccommodating. Granted the landlord came over and replaced the drink begrudgingly. We actually felt that unwelcome we cancelled our desserts got the bill and left. As we were walking out we walked past the landlord who totally ignored us, and the manager said bye only because we did. In all honesty the vibe I get from this pub is that they are only friendly if you're local but if you're a passer by they have no need to be nice. Hats off to the lady with the red hair, I didn't catch her name but she was the nicest member of staff in the building and I think everyone in there should take a leaf out of her book. The only thing keeping you guys going is the fantastic chefs in the kitchen, as your service is sub-par at best.

First time at the Roebuck for a while and glad we decided to go. We were there for Sunday lunch and I was lucky enough to order a suet pudding even though it's not on the Sunday menu. My partner had the lamb shoulder and both meals were absolutely delicious. She had a potato skin starter which was OK but nothing special. Neither of us could manage a pudding but I did manage to eat all the suet pudding :) Read a few comments here lately about poor service, I disagree.

A group of about 12 had dinner, we had a choice of two courses for £18 which was excellent value and the food was all very well received. I would've been pleased with any of the starters but my choice of duck spring rolls with a sweet chilli sauce was very good indeed. For main I had halibut, which was delicious. The meat and potato pie was also well received, and was an excellent portion. The salted caramel profiteroles were also recommended. Service was friendly and efficient. A nice cask ale too.

Don't usually leave reviews but you only have to read the recent ones to confirm that the Customer Service has completely disappeared from this place (which back in the day was fabulous). The waitress was rude and abrupt from the minute we arrived and after a series of catastrophes the owner confirmed that it really is time to 'hang up his boots'. After complaining on a number of things he basically said 'what do you want me to do..get on my hands and knees? What a rude man he has turned into. My husband's 60th birthday turned into a shambles because of this place...we walked out and will never return! Thankfully a nearby establishment accommodated us at 8.15pm and we had a lovely meal there and a nice pint of Cask Ale (unavailable at the Roebuck)....Maybe the Roebuck could learn a few things from neighbouring establishments? Wetherspoons Strinesdale should be the new name..although that's a little unfair on Wetherspoons

We celebrated my husbands 60th birthday party at this establishment. There were twenty six of us in the upstairs room the food everyone said was good but some people didn't get vegetables with their meals the service was so slow and what can only be described as absolute chaos. There didn't appear to be anyone in charge of service . We spent £1000 on Saturday night and not one person asked me or o my husband if everything was alright and when we were loading the car up at the end of the night the landlord and landlady were sat in the bar with their friends and didn't utter a single word to us ! They couldn't have cared less whether we had had a good evening or not ! No wonder some public houses are struggling when you have people like this running then . Mein hosts they most definitely not ,!!!

We walked in at opening time on Easter Sunday (we were on a walk) and just nipped in on the off chance a table was free for a drink. Despite the amount of staff (must have been about 7 staff) we were just left to kind of look about and a bit lost. I approached the bar and asked if we could sit anywhere that didn't have a reserved sign. The woman behind the bar did not smile once it was as though she was doing me a favour just answering me. Not friendly at all! Another woman managed to find us a spot but the woman behind the bar honestly was the most unfriendly person you could tell she just did not want to be there at all. Not eye contact no smile and quite obnoxious in the way she spoke. Won't be returning. Youre only as good as your staff and yours are stuck up and obnoxious

One had thinly sliced pork in pepper sauce but turned up just lumps of meat and was absolutely tasteless. Would not recommend at all. We didn’t dare try a desert in fear of it being just as bad as the mains. Nobody even came to ask if everything was ok with our food and nobody said please and thankyou when paying. Not even have a good Evening or a goodnight as we were leaving. Not deserving of a tip at all. In the future drive on by straight to the old original down the road!

Really looked forward to visiting this restaurant after having read many favourable reviews. Unfortunately the meal was a great disappointment as we had to wait just shy of 1 hour for our orders to reach the table. The dishes themselves were just about palatable. When it came to dessert, what a disappointment, 3 guests had ordered crème brûlée, which were inedible as they tasted heavily of smoke, the same was true for 2 portions of apple crumble. From this experience I cannot recommend this restaurant. The waitress agreed to remove all the desserts from the bill.

It was very busy as Christmas.... Overall food was quite good although my 'plant based' steaks were a little overcooked. Considering the amount of people that were in our party, most people were very happy with their food.

I'm a picky eater but when I saw steak on that menu I knew I was in for a treat it comes at a price of 18 pound for just the main course but is 100 percent worth it. I asked for it cooked medium it was cooked perfectly and it tasted so good and my family enjoyed the roast dinner and said it was very nice I really recommend coming here.

Absolutely fab food!!!! Haven't been here for years and suddenly decided to give it a go for our anniversary meal. We were not disappointed! We were warmly greeted at the bar and shown to a lovely table with amazing views. The staff were all really pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. I ordered the pork fillet in a sherry sauce which should have come with chips but I asked for new potatoes no trouble at all and they even brought me butter and herbs to go with them. We were with friends who were equally impressed and we will definitely be back The bill was very reasonable too. What a lovely couple who own it, thanks again guys brilliant.

Unfortunately wasn’t for us on this occasion. Service a little slow and the steak wasn’t very good quality. Desserts took over and hour. The cheesecake is too sweet and is more like a meringue than a cheesecake. Will try again on our next visit as the staff are lovely and friendly and it is a nice atmosphere.

We’ve been coming to the Roebuck for about 30 years. It was the place to go where you were always guaranteed to enjoy a quality meal. More recently, perhaps due to how hard times are in this industry, standards have dropped. You used to get a complimentary bread and butter basket when you were seated, but this doesn’t happen now. They always had the best homemade chips around, but the wedges they’ve been replaced with taste frozen. My mum’s fish dish had been dinged. Vegetables to share for 4, where sparse. The pub is always cosy because of the fire but restaurant has a drab, cold atmosphere, which is very outdated, despite being redecorated. Another bug bear is that the owners are miserable. Not that I expect a fanfare, but there’s never any acknowledgment, despite going for 30 years. All in all we won’t be returning again sadly.

Lovely bar/ restaurant with pleasant and helpful staff. Really good food and well priced. Had ordered the sirloin steak which came with chips, vegetables, tomatoes and mushrooms and struggled to finish the plate. The staff were attentive without fussing over the top of you. It was clean and well maintained, with amazing views from where we were sitting.

I frequently visit the Kings Arms for their light launch. Lady night I went for dinner with my brother and his wife. Service was good, as always. The food was excellent - decent portions served hot and very tasty. The staff were happy to turn down the "music"; my brother and I are both deaf and loud music makes conversation difficult. (Why is it necessary to have music anyway?)

Really lovely staff who can't do enough to help. I have only bought cake and drinks, but i haven't heard anything negative about this cafe.

Great fish and chips, 2 decent sized battered fish and a standard portion of chips for under £15, bargain 😀
