Full marks. Great food and at good prices. Attentive and polite staff. Nice classic country pub atmosphere. It was full but didn't feel busy. I can only knock the parking. Limited, but space down the lane, so only really an issue in darker winter evenings.

Gorgeous food and impeccable service with great views. Cons: It's tricky to park. There is zero phone signal up there, and there wasn't any working WiFi whilst we were there. Not that I needed it, but some people may do.

Tomato and roast pepper soup 10/10 Pea and ham soup 10/10 Gammon eggs chips 10/10 Steak and cheese pie 10/10 Massive let down was the mashed potato 🥔 really bland mash not buttery or creamy. We are looking forward to visiting again for the cheese and onion pie I just really hope the mashed potato is improved. The homemade soups were absolutely gorgeous the food was served piping hot, staff were lovely the service was fast even when super busy. It only works out £20-30 per person which is fantastic!

The pub was very busy with lots of families enjoying eating and spending time together so it was quite noisy ( in a nice way) and our table wasn't ready so we had a drink at the bar.. When we were seated we had quite a wait for food but when it did come it was delicious Between us we had ordered steaks, fish, sausages and roast beef all of it well cooked and well presented. The waiting was a little irritating but it is good to see a business so popular and serving really good food.

Decided at the last minute to go out to eat on a Sunday evening. Haven't been to the Old Original for a while so booked a table on line and half an hour later we were there. Seated immediately we walked in and ordered drinks whilst we looked at the menu. I plumped for fish and chips and my partner ordered the steak and cheese pie. Fish and chips were excellent and my partner said it was one of the best pies she'd ever eaten (and she's eaten a few). Mushy peas were really good too. Only slight negative is that I'm not really a fan of chips with skins on but these were pretty good to be honest (we ate them all) and far better than the 'triple cooked chips' frozen in a bag that lots of places serve these days. Food was piping hot and served on hot plates. As I said it's been a while since we last visited but it won't be long before we go back. Proper old fashioned (in the best way) pub with a really nice atmosphere and good food cooked with fresh ingredients. Real value for money and spectacular views from the outside too :)

We were a BIG group, it was a central point to have a family meal to see our Daughter off on her travels . Food fab, staff lovely. Managed to pretty much get all our starters out together and mains hot and on time, even though we all kept moving seats! Will definitely be back when she returns from her travels. 👍

Service was awful, 1 starter missing waited that long just told them to leave it. Mains served missing the side items and a cocktail full of flies. Been numerous times and it's been good. This time however was very poor.

I came to The Old Original on Thursday for a meal with my new fella James. Although James is a chef at The Old Original, I was really impressed with all the staff, that we was still treated with the same service as customers. The food was lovely I had the battered mushrooms with alioli and Lasagne which was probably one if the best Lasagne's I have tasted I could taste the different layers rather than it being mixed together. All the staff was very welcoming and friendly.

We went as a family of 9 last night food was spot on and staff were friendly and efficient really enjoyed it and will be back x

Sunday lunch for the price is good. Large servings but food not well cooked, roast potatoes were anaemic, veg al dente to raw. Service was good. If you want a basic Sunday lunch its fine

Steaks cooked to order with large portions of vegetables. Sticky toffee pudding delicious. Needs a bit more custard. Fruit crumble average.

Fantastic evening, food and service was excellent. Really nice atmosphere. We all had steak, and they were all cooked to perfection- no room for dessert although they looked really tempting.

Absolutely fantastic food and it was definitely value for money and the portion sizesWOW! We ordered the soup starter and the beef roast diner and we struggled to consume it all but we did as it was way too nice to leave. All staff are all lovely. So here’s a big shout out to fantastic service from Alex and Beth who gave us excellent service and NOTHING was too much. I’ve not forgotten (smiler) Lynne who was working the bar smiling like she had just won a million pounds. Oh and Manager Richard who was so funny and warm and welcoming. We will definitely be coming back. Hope you will be ready for us😂

Proper English country pub which is just what we were after. The food was delicious.

The Lamb Henry is excellent as is the Pea and ham soup. Would recommend to anyone wh loves a good hearty meal in a traditional pub restaurant

The staff couldn't have been more helpful and very friendly. We were a party of 6 and had 5 different meals, everyone excellent in their own right. No food was wasted everyone ate all their meal. I would highly recommend a visit here. EXCELLENT 😊😊😊

Went for a family meal (9 of us) Sunday 11th Feb, it was recommended as being really good. All had starters which were ok but nothing special. Had varying main meals incl chicken stroganoff which was disgusting, came with yellow rice in fact the whole thing looked like curry and tasted like slow cooker curry. Beef dinner which had beef from the deli rather than home roasted, veg and mash were hard, roast reheated. Meatballs were really spicy and hard to cut. A few meals Included chips but no, they plonked a dish of skin on wedges on the table to share Inc the kids who wanted chips, they passed this off as "they are our chips" but this wasn't mentioned when ordering, we had then got to reorder fries for the kids and they were even hard, who serves skin on wedges with chicken stroganoff????? Nobody came to ask if everything was OK and when we complained, all the manager could say was "sorry."We spent over £250 on this family meal and it all went back.Totally shocking experience and disgusting food, we will never go there again.

Been a few years but what sets this place out from the rest is the quality of the steaks , locally reared sources beef absolutely spot on and cooked very well . To start the pea and ham soup actually full of ham not like other local places I have reviewed ! Steaks amazing sides spot on as nd the Argentinian Malbec amazing . We will be back roaring log fires 🔥 on a rainy cold Christmas Eve afternoon simply perfection

We went on a busy Friday evening for a Birthday dinner. Everything was perfect, the atmosphere, food & service. Would not hesitate to reccomend.

We regularly visit The Old Original as we like the simple not overpriced menu. It is a simple menu but all the steaks and meats we have had have been delicious. Its not posh and doesnt claim to be. Its clean and comfortable, love the real fire in the winter and great views in the summer. The waiting staff are super efficient and professional whilst friendly.

Had my 40th meal there ...firstly got told not to sprinkle anymore confetti on the table because it stains (but yet there was no coasters for the glasses) ok!!!! The food was vile!!! Had the burger ...the meat was so hard and tough...it was like a full bottle of sauce had been poured on it was drenched!!! And as for the staff...nothing special!!! First & last visit!! And the seating was a joke!!! And the cheap pies was full of grissle what my friend had!! If I could score zero stars I would!!!

This was our first time going to The Old Original and it won’t be our last. We arrived early and despite having a later booking the staff accommodated us with no issues. Service was quick, friendly and professional, but you didn’t feel rushed. The establishment is well known for their steaks so we were keen to try, and they did not disappoint. They were cooked to perfection and incredibly tasty. The sauce and sides that accompanied it where excellent. It was a lovely meal and the place had a great atmosphere. We will definitely be going back for seconds!

Been here a few times recently and whatever you choose of the menu you won’t be disappointed. Got to recommend the 16oz rib loin. If you like your steak then this is a must. Staff really lovely and helpful. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed.

Here at the old original we had the famous Lamb Henry my god I was flabbergasted the size of it could feed a family .it was fit for a king Excellent service A beautiful day up in the sticks if ever we feel a need...

I hate complaining and I would love to say that the food was good, but it wasn't. I ordered chicken stroganoff with rice and chips. The sauce was flavourless. I found six small pieces of chicken which were ĥard, dry and chewy. It was bulked out mushrooms and peppers. I ordered off the kids menu for my 3yr old grandson. He had burger, chips and peas. He ate the burger bun, the peas and a few chips. I cut the burger up for him which was extremely tough. He said it was yak so I tried a piece, he was right. It was very tough, extremely salty and very peppery, not at all suitable for a child. We had a diet Pepsi, small and regular. The price was £26 which I thought was a bit steep. After trying the food I definitely thought it was poor value. Sorry for the bad review but if we don't complain it won't get better.

Popped in on our way back to Manchester. Probably my first ever visit but we used to regularly visit this area 40+ years ago. Very much focussed on food on this Sunday lunch but no problem getting drinks. Jorvic going for J.W.Lees bitter, very good. Oddly no cider on tap, only bottled. We all liked the look of the pub and food menu so hope to book and return for a meal. Parking is tight so you may need to walk 50 to 100 yards. We were there from about 2.30 pm for 40 mins. Possibly a lull between early and later eaters; seemed to be filling as we left. Small front patio for the odd sunny day. Good views. Historic list of previous Landlords. No Flat Erics though.

Every time I've been to the old original I've had a great meal. Tonight was no different. Lamb Henry was delicious. My daughter had fish and chips which she recommends. Had desert for the first time tonight and it was delicious, lucky we had a little space left after the main. Parking can be an issue at busy times.

5 out 5, hidden gem. Food was amazing Best I’ve had in a long time. All home cooked, full of flavour and the service was amazing. Highly recommend, will definitely be returning.
