What a lovely meal! Lovely staff who know what a quality pub lunch is. I’d rather visit places like this than so called ‘posh’ restaurants. Great burgers and amazing fish pie. We’ve been here before and will be here again.

Went for a Sunday lunch with my son, I, opted for the roast ham, and my son had the beef. Additionally, we ordered a side dish of cauliflower cheese, we were told, once ordered, that we had an approximate wait of about 20 minutes as all orders are cooked to order. No problem, waiting. It was well worth the wait. My ham was delicious, and it came with the usual veg, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, and a pot of gravy, all delicious, including the cauliflower cheese. Slight negative wad the Yorkshire pudding could have been a bit more crispier, but that's my personal preference. Staff were lovely, professional, and attentive with fantastic views. Well worth the visit, and j will be coming back.

Great position, views from the car park over the reservoir and moors, spacious car park. Small on site shop selling meats, pies, deserts, and local produce. Pub with small bar but also various pub type/ small plate and snack menu but also full restaurant menus . Seasonal and special items also. Sunday carvery menu also. The menu is varied with items like pheasant and game , I like that there are specific regional items (like whitby scampi) . We had Sunday turkey roast and a Terry's chocolate orange cheese cake and every thing we had was delicious, if slightly peppery for my personal taste. Service was polite and attentive. Surprisingly busy, consider booking. Prices reasonable. My only negative is how sticky the tables are, I've no idea why seems staff clean them as soon as clearing a table but so sticky I lost 2 napkins to them .

Went for a birthday meal on a Friday evening around 6pm, it was fairly quiet, which is just how we like it. The service and food was outstanding, and the manager was very accommodating too. Lovely views from the table. The food was so filling that we had no room for dessert, much to my distress as they all sounded gorgeous, especially the Terry's chocolate orange cheesecake! (I did spy it on another diner's table!) We have visited a few times before and have always been very impressed, so will continue to return again and again. Very highly recommended.

We were making a longish journey across country to Liverpool and wanted somewhere for lunch. Found The Ramshead suggested on an.app for places to eat just off the motorway. (It is about 2 miles from J22 M62.) We had booked. Given it's remoteness it was surprisingly busy. Clearly popular with walkers. We were told when we placed our order food would.take about 20 minutes or so. When it came it was possibly longer but worth the wait. I had pie of the day. Home made mince and onion. Delicious. Crisp pastry and properly cooked chips. Obviously all home made. My wife had the fish pie which she said was one of the best she'd ever had. Full of fish and jumbo prawns. A great find. Only minor criticism is that for disabled people it's not great. The car park is on a slope and has uneven surfaces.

Was recommended this pub in the Kevin Sinfield book and how right he was! Lovely cosy pub Great location.. the most delicious food! We had the steak and onion pie with beef dripping chips and a jug of gravy. Such friendly staff and was served by the lovely Olivia! A stop off to catch up with family over lunch as we all live separate ends of the M62 and this is mid-way. Very easy to get to as you run off the motorway and it’s a straight road to the pub. Huge beer garden with fabulous view, but too windy to sit outside today. Great selection of drinks and a couple of ales/lagers on taps. Really friendly staff and a great welcome on a chilly day. The menu is excellent with each dish looking like the perfect option and after much deliberation 2 fish pies and 2 steak pies were ordered coupled with vegan dish for daughter. Yes - you’ll wait about 20 mins but that’s what good home cooked food takes to get cooked. When it arrived we wished we could have bed and breakfast!! Great big huge fish pies served in individual oven trays (bring your appetite!) coupled with a tower of steak pie, chips and veg. A good 20 minutes of silence ensued whilst we munched through these - all stacked with meat/fish and absolute delicious. Vegan option - quite tasty and helped by the vegan gravy (as vegan pie can be quite dry). Again - rated delicious by the daughter. Would we stop off again now we know the pub is there? Absolutely - this is a top Pub spot? Walking the Pennine Way or the West-East route from Liverpool to Hull. Make sure you stop here. In fact, just make sure you stop here. A proper pub, warm, friendly, great food, lovely staff and also a fabulous farm shop to the side. A true 10/10

We had Sunday lunch. Roast beef (a little fatty) and trimmings, the gravy was a bit thin but the roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings were lovely. Desert was cheesecake of the day (which whilst being very creamy) seemed only vanilla with a chocolate on top, pricing at £7.95 was on the steep side. The staff however were a real asset. If we visit again we would order from the main menu.

First visit and won’t be the last. Service was fantastic and welcoming. You walk through a grotto of farmhouse sweet n savoury items to purchase in the adjoining farm shop. Further round the shop opens up to a quaint but well stocked produce and beverages. The fridge section boasts a moderate selection of meets & sausages. I would suggest if you fancy taking something back home to get it before you go in the restaurant as you won’t feel like eating anything else after. We just took a couple of pork and pickle pies. You can also grab a bacon or sausage sandwich from here if you’re not booked in the restaurant. Walking through to the restaurant we were shown to our table by friendly staff and informed of the soup and pie of the day. The room was warm and cosy but plenty of room between tables to relax around a wood burner. After taking in the amazing views we turned to the menu, which had some great choices and food was delicious. Our party enjoyed the steak & onion pie but I have to recommend the steak burger and go for the double up although you probably won’t have room for lemon sponge and custard. We skipped on the staters but if you fancy making it 3 course there is some usual items, soup etc and a variety of special nibbles and appetisers. I might try the tempura prawns next time. Some good beers and non alcoholic on offer. Coke Zero by pint or Diet Coke by bottle. The bill was very reasonable and we opted to pay by card. No doubt we will be back very soon. If you decide to visit the restaurant please make sure to book.

The service and food were both very good. I had the goats cheese starter and sea bass fillets for my main course. I didn't realise that the sea bass dish wasn't served with vegetables but fortunately my husband had veg with his main course ( steak & onion pie) so I pinched his as he's not a lover. My husband had the lemon pudding for dessert and said it's the best sweet pudding he's had in a long, long time. Sadly, there was little ambience. Two things, really ... when we arrived ( at 7.30pm), there were a couple of tables occupied, but they soon dispersed, and then it was made subtly clear, once we came to the dessert stage, they were packing up to go home. Secondly, the lighting... too stark. I know this is subjective, but the place could be made so much more welcoming with warm lighting / lamps dotted about perhaps.

We visited today first time in years looking for a new place to have a Sunday roast. It is a nice restaurant with calm atmosphere and we like the views. But I was not impressed with the food. While the beef was nicely cooked the whole meal was very bland and tasteless. The gravy looked like from a packet and whoever thought that sweetcorn is a good veg for Sunday roast? The veg which was just boiled added nothing to the whole meal.

This is the first time I have used the online booking app and I found it very non-human and unfriendly. Frankly as an IT Service Management Consultant of some 25 years standing it is a very badly designed App which detracts massively from the warm, professional and friendly booking experienced in the past. Being informed by the App that my table would only be reserved for 4.6 minutes after the appointed time was just rude and unprofessional. However, I persevered with the booking because of the excellence of my past experiences. Having said all that, our evening lived up to all our expectations - brilliant!

We booked a table for four on a quiet late Friday afternoon. The first time we have eaten in this pub. We ordered a bottle of wine and also pints of Timothy Taylors Landlord beet.. the beer was spot on. There was a relatively long wait for the food but it was explained that the food is home cooked so does take longer. Two of us ordered the Fish and chips with a side each of mushy peas. I can say that they were probably the best fish and chips I've eaten in a pub, very well cooked with delicious batter. A fish pie was also ordered and that was also very, very nice...packed with chunks of fish. My wife ordered a chicken wrap which was as expected. The service from the manageress and waitress was also excellent so thank you. The feeling at the end was that the price of the food was on the top side when compared to other similar pubs/ restaurants around the area..when adding a extra of peas or gravy to fish and chips for example the price is veering towards £20 and a side of gravy is priced at £3.50p..that's too expensive, my personal opinion. Maybe the landlord would argue that he could trim the prices but that would affect the quality of the food, it's not easy in the hospitality trade these days. Anyway, the prices are just a collective observation but the quality of our food can't be disputed,we don't mind paying a little bit extra if the food is good..and it was. I can highly recommend the Rams Head for nice food and a excellent pint, it's well worth a visit.

was only 1 other couple in the part where we were sat yet others were in other rooms. music was good though. we had been given a large oval table which wasn't very intimate. On the booking form I'd said it was our anniversary yet this wasn't acknowledged. We had an £80 gift voucher which we hoped would cover the meal, drinks and food from the farm shop. One stater was smoked salmon & cream cheese on half a bagel for £12.50! tasty but expensive. Other was caesar salad £8.50 quite nice. 1 main lamb £32 asked for new potatoes instead of beef dripping chips but this wasn't met with much joy or eagerness to be accommodating. 2nd main was sea bass with asparagus (overcooked, stringy & only 3 of them) small overcooked new potatoes & the fish, nice texture but was swimming in oil and had no taste. i had 1 diet coke and jug of tap water. My husband had 1 double vodka & coke & 2 beers. I asked the total at this point to see if we could afford a dessert with the voucher but then found out it was £101 so asked for the bill. i told the 1 friendly waitress it was our 25th wedding anniversary and she complimented me saying i didn't look old enough which was nice but then insulted my husband when he asked if he didn't look old enough either by not saying anything. we won't be returning first for the extortionate prices but mainly for the poor quality food.

The food has always been 5 star and delicious and they stock a fantastic wine list. It was very nice to meet Alex the new front of house lady who was bubbly, chatty and just as knowledgeable with her wines as the old grumpy guy that has recently retired. Well worth a visit and thank you Alex again for keeping up the standards of this lovely establishment so cheerfully. See you again very soon Martyn

I don’t normally write reviews but this time I feel this is justified We went on reccomendation from a friend , after a lovely walk we called in for a drink and decided to have lunch , we were sat outside at next to the end table , I went inside to ask for a menu and was told by a surly waitress to use the app , I told the girl that I didn’t have my phone and did they have a menu , to which she gave me a menu and told me not to forget to bring it back , we ordered food I decided to have the belly pork starter and the bagel with salmon ( £12) my partner had the liver , I was given a disc and told it would buzz when our food was ready , it buzzed nothing came then I was told that the food would be at the end table , Three people brought our food pit and left it on the end table. A red hot plate of liver , belly pork a potion of chips and yes my bagel which in fact was half a bagel with a bit of salmon on fit TWELVE QUID , i then had to carry all the good back to our table , and the three of them went back on the pub , needless to say I won’t be going back .
