The Rams Head used to be somewhere we’d go for a special occasion when I was a kid and later for anniversaries as an adult. For whatever reason we’ve not been in years but booked this evening with friends and we were not disappointed. The food was, as I always remembered 5*. The service was spot on too. I wish I’d had taken the name of the lady who waited on tonight because we had a good laugh with her too. Let’s just say she doesn’t want to come hiking with me (you know who you are)! Highly recommend and we won’t leave it so long before we visit again. Thanks you.

As a couple we have visited the Rams Head numerous times and can only say positive things about our experience. Both the food, and the service have been second to none; Alex and all of the other staff go above and beyond to provide excellent service for their guests…dogs included. We have taken our cockapoo on several occasions and he has been welcomed into the restaurant with no issues. We have eaten in the restaurant, taken sharing boards away and bought local produce from the shop which we have not been disappointed with. We cannot recommend this place enough, and will continue to visit - the food, the atmosphere and the staff here are 5 star! Thank you to all at the Rams Head Inn.

Pub lovely, staff friendly, helpful & courteous. Food excellent. Only gripe was that we travel 35 minutes to come to this pub for a meal & drinks and they’ve stopped selling Timothy Taylor ale which is/was the reason we visited in the first instance. It’s unlikely we’ll visit again despite no issues with the food, pub or staff.

After a great visit earlier this year I’m beyond disappointed with the cleanliness and poor value of my visit today Dirty chairs that are falling to bits and tables that need a quick sand and gloss as they are all chipped. Empty disposable salt & pepper grinders??? Some reason they don’t give you a sandwich menu but they do sandwiches. Sandwiches come along with no sides which is fair enough but I had a hot meat sandwich and wanted some gravy as the meat was dry. They wanted nearly £3 for a pot of gravy!!! Positives - staff were friendly and the duck risotto was very nice although expensive. Really disappointed after a great visit earlier this year. Feels like profits over quality

Fairly empty restaurant with no atmosphere. The food was below average. No issues with the starters but the mains were terrible. The seabass was flavourless and the ribeye was a mass of inedible fatty meat & tasteless. When the waitress came to clear the plates, the issue with the steak was pointed out, only to be told you should have said we could have got you another. They came to check about the food around 3 minutes after it being put down and then nothing again until the plates being cleared. Needless to say there won’t be a return visit!

5 of us and we all enjoyed our meals, the salmon starter, pheasant starter, asparagus side and the fish pie were the stand out dishes. The Sunday roasts were very tasty and generous as was the stuffing side portions. Great gravy. Everything tasted so fresh which it doesn't always in restaurants nowadays. We didn't have dessert as we had brought a cake which they brought out from the kitchen with plates and cutlery without any fuss unlike some places. The service was top notch and really added to the enjoyment of the visit. Thanks a million.

Went for a Sunday lunch with my son, I, opted for the roast ham, and my son had the beef. Additionally, we ordered a side dish of cauliflower cheese, we were told, once ordered, that we had an approximate wait of about 20 minutes as all orders are cooked to order. No problem, waiting. It was well worth the wait. My ham was delicious, and it came with the usual veg, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, and a pot of gravy, all delicious, including the cauliflower cheese. Slight negative wad the Yorkshire pudding could have been a bit more crispier, but that's my personal preference. Staff were lovely, professional, and attentive with fantastic views. Well worth the visit, and j will be coming back.

Great position, views from the car park over the reservoir and moors, spacious car park. Small on site shop selling meats, pies, deserts, and local produce. Pub with small bar but also various pub type/ small plate and snack menu but also full restaurant menus . Seasonal and special items also. Sunday carvery menu also. The menu is varied with items like pheasant and game , I like that there are specific regional items (like whitby scampi) . We had Sunday turkey roast and a Terry's chocolate orange cheese cake and every thing we had was delicious, if slightly peppery for my personal taste. Service was polite and attentive. Surprisingly busy, consider booking. Prices reasonable. My only negative is how sticky the tables are, I've no idea why seems staff clean them as soon as clearing a table but so sticky I lost 2 napkins to them .

Lovely afternoon but both my grandchildren choose sausage and mash for their main meal. Both meals were in a dish and drowned in gravy. Went for a birthday meal on a Friday evening around 6pm, it was fairly quiet, which is just how we like it. The service and food was outstanding, and the manager was very accommodating too. Lovely views from the table. The food was so filling that we had no room for dessert, much to my distress as they all sounded gorgeous, especially the Terry's chocolate orange cheesecake! (I did spy it on another diner's table!) We have visited a few times before and have always been very impressed, so will continue to return again and again. Very highly recommended.

We were making a longish journey across country to Liverpool and wanted somewhere for lunch. Found The Ramshead suggested on an.app for places to eat just off the motorway. (It is about 2 miles from J22 M62.) We had booked. Given it's remoteness it was surprisingly busy. Clearly popular with walkers. We were told when we placed our order food would.take about 20 minutes or so. When it came it was possibly longer but worth the wait. I had pie of the day. Home made mince and onion. Delicious. Crisp pastry and properly cooked chips. Obviously all home made. My wife had the fish pie which she said was one of the best she'd ever had. Full of fish and jumbo prawns. A great find. Only minor criticism is that for disabled people it's not great. The car park is on a slope and has uneven surfaces.

A stop off to catch up with family over lunch as we all live separate ends of the M62 and this is mid-way. Very easy to get to as you run off the motorway and it’s a straight road to the pub. Huge beer garden with fabulous view, but too windy to sit outside today. Great selection of drinks and a couple of ales/lagers on taps. Really friendly staff and a great welcome on a chilly day. The menu is excellent with each dish looking like the perfect option and after much deliberation 2 fish pies and 2 steak pies were ordered coupled with vegan dish for daughter. Yes - you’ll wait about 20 mins but that’s what good home cooked food takes to get cooked. When it arrived we wished we could have bed and breakfast!! Great big huge fish pies served in individual oven trays (bring your appetite!) coupled with a tower of steak pie, chips and veg. A good 20 minutes of silence ensued whilst we munched through these - all stacked with meat/fish and absolute delicious. Vegan option - quite tasty and helped by the vegan gravy (as vegan pie can be quite dry). Again - rated delicious by the daughter. Would we stop off again now we know the pub is there? Absolutely - this is a top Pub spot? Walking the Pennine Way or the West-East route from Liverpool to Hull. Make sure you stop here. In fact, just make sure you stop here. A proper pub, warm, friendly, great food, lovely staff and also a fabulous farm shop to the side. A true 10/10

First visit and won’t be the last. Service was fantastic and welcoming. You walk through a grotto of farmhouse sweet n savoury items to purchase in the adjoining farm shop. Further round the shop opens up to a quaint but well stocked produce and beverages. The fridge section boasts a moderate selection of meets & sausages. I would suggest if you fancy taking something back home to get it before you go in the restaurant as you won’t feel like eating anything else after. We just took a couple of pork and pickle pies. You can also grab a bacon or sausage sandwich from here if you’re not booked in the restaurant. Walking through to the restaurant we were shown to our table by friendly staff and informed of the soup and pie of the day. The room was warm and cosy but plenty of room between tables to relax around a wood burner. After taking in the amazing views we turned to the menu, which had some great choices and food was delicious. Our party enjoyed the steak & onion pie but I have to recommend the steak burger and go for the double up although you probably won’t have room for lemon sponge and custard. We skipped on the staters but if you fancy making it 3 course there is some usual items, soup etc and a variety of special nibbles and appetisers. I might try the tempura prawns next time. Some good beers and non alcoholic on offer. Coke Zero by pint or Diet Coke by bottle. The bill was very reasonable and we opted to pay by card. No doubt we will be back very soon. If you decide to visit the restaurant please make sure to book.

The service and food were both very good. I had the goats cheese starter and sea bass fillets for my main course. I didn't realise that the sea bass dish wasn't served with vegetables but fortunately my husband had veg with his main course ( steak & onion pie) so I pinched his as he's not a lover. My husband had the lemon pudding for dessert and said it's the best sweet pudding he's had in a long, long time. Sadly, there was little ambience. Two things, really ... when we arrived ( at 7.30pm), there were a couple of tables occupied, but they soon dispersed, and then it was made subtly clear, once we came to the dessert stage, they were packing up to go home. Secondly, the lighting... too stark. I know this is subjective, but the place could be made so much more welcoming with warm lighting / lamps dotted about perhaps.

While the beef was nicely cooked the whole meal was very bland and tasteless. The gravy looked like from a packet and whoever thought that sweetcorn is a good veg for Sunday roast? The veg which was just boiled added nothing to the whole meal.

Food excellent, service very attentive, a great location and a very enjoyable Sunday roast. We’ve never tasted soup like it - delicious tomato and root vegetable. So good, we have booked again.

Food amazing as always and friendliest staff of all the pubs/restaurants in the area. It’s why we always make this fine establishment our first choice.

Unusually not the best visit here. We usually come for Sunday roast which is excellent. Today the food was average. A Caesar salad soaked with dressing and 2 steak pies which were luke warm and not very appetising. Money was taken off the bill for the Caesar salad which was a nice gesture. As always the staff are friendly. I guess sadly, just an off day at the pub.

Love this place to eat or just a drink. The staff are always super friendly, helpful & nothing is too much trouble. The food we had & my Dad had three courses, was very tasty & plenty of it.

We have been coming to the Ram’s Head for 15 years and the quality has consistently first class. This is the first time I have used the online booking app and I found it very non-human and unfriendly. Frankly as an IT Service Management Consultant of some 25 years standing it is a very badly designed App which detracts massively from the warm, professional and friendly booking experienced in the past. Being informed by the App that my table would only be reserved for 4.6 minutes after the appointed time was just rude and unprofessional. However, I persevered with the booking because of the excellence of my past experiences. Having said all that, our evening lived up to all our expectations - brilliant!

What a wonderful place With a amazing views! Great atmosphere, lovely cosy pub with great staff, specially Tanya who was amazing putting up with 4 boisterous oldies, so friendly and professional. The food was superb, beautifully cooked to perfection and we also enjoyed a pint or two of Madonna’s favourite ale. Would strongly recommend to anyone - faultless! 🚁

I visited here with a friend recently ,all i can say is .what a incredible bar /restaurant. From the moment you walk through the door the vibe is relaxed and the interior is incredible with its rooftop level and outside orangery with retracting roof in summer is awesome. The bar has a great choice of alcholic and non -alchoholic drinks and the cocktail list is immense .The food menu is exotic and the choices of dishes always cooked to perfection, In all muse is a great venue for a family meal ,couple meal or even just a drink. Part of the muse complex is the ANNEX which is a private function venue available for private hire which really does have the wow factor .In summary the friendly staff amd managment combined with the beautifull tasty food amd interior design is a credit to saddleworth .recommended .
