Very average we got a tea and scone for two. Came close to 15£ .....which for a cold scone and stewd tea thought was overpriced. You pay seperately for jam and cream ... tiny amount of jam!. Service didnt bother me but some might take as a bit abrupt.

Visited here quite a few times. The food is usually very tasty, well presented and the staff friendly. We must have caught them on an off day today though 🫤 We arrived at 2.50 and found a table. Noticing immediately that hot food was only available until 3.00 my husband went straight to the counter to order, rhyming off the two panini’s, a toasted sandwich and a jacket potato. He was informed there were no more jacket potatoes so I quickly changed my order to a toasted sandwich. By this time it was 2.52 and the lady at the till was not happy. She commented abruptly to my husband that hot food had to be ordered by 3.00, when my husband commented that it was not three yet she glared at him before hollering to the kitchen ‘ Don’t put owt away there’s more food orders’. The food that arrived was slapped together at best, zero point for presentation and my husbands cheese and onion toastie had barely any onion and the cheese had not melted. My parents in law panini’s were okay with proper chunky ham but were beige looking and hardly toasted,my Brie and cranberry toastie was tasty. This same disgruntled member of staff was clearly not happy in her job as she banged and crashed as she cleared tables and muttered and signed under her breath. To be fair, most of the rest of the staff were cheerful and polite but we are our food and made a hasty exit. I don’t think we will be back and if anyone else is going for hot food DO NOT leave it too late or you too stand the risk of public shame, humiliation and sloppy food. P.S The garden centre and gift shops are very good with very helpful and friendly staff.

After completing Ben Nevis, one of our fellow friends became unwell and was unable to to continue to the other mountains to complete the ’Three peaks’ under 24hrs. We see this amazing castle on route back and checked in later that evening. The grounds & facilities are stunning. They where very accommodating with their restaurant menu. We were served with outstanding food and the personal touch especially with the Chef ‘Chris’ who actually came out and presented what we were eating which I thought was a really great touch! He then personally gave us his time to even show us around some of the castle which was a great way to fishing off our night. Our first visit even thou a short stay, I would highly recommend to stay and eat here. Thank you.

This barn was pretty much abandoned the last time I walked this way some 20 years ago. Discovering a walker's cafe was a very welcome surprise. Good cakes, excellent coffee and an excellent variety of local ice cream. Yas was a friendly and polite hostess, who also told is the best vantage point to see Scalehow Force on our walk back to Patterdale. Its isolated location means you're unlikely to go out of your way to visit, but do stop if passing. There are good views over Ullstwater from the outside tables, and welcome shelter inside it it's raining.

Whilst staying locally we went for dinner at this friendly pub. We would highly recommend as food was delicious and we was made to feel welcome by staff who was very friendly. The only regret we had was not visiting there sooner as it was our last evening in the area. We do hope to visit great asby again soon and will be popping in again for more meals.

We had high expectations for the food given all the hype about the quality of the produce. The steak my partner had and the fish I had was excellent. Unfortunately the chips were undercooked, soggy and pale. Frankly inedible. We didn’t want to return the food for fear of the steak and fish being ruined. However, a better supply of chips could have been provided to us, as a gesture of goodwill. I can’t believe any self-respecting chef would serve such poor quality chips. Made even worse was the attitude presented when we raised this. The waitress fed back our disappointment to the chef and in her reply to us which was “I did raise it with the chef but….” we took this that the chef chose to completely dismiss and disregard our feedback. It was a shame because we were otherwise so happy with our overnight stay at the Westmorland Hotel and this put a dampener on it. Message to chef: listen and do better.

Pulled off the A66 into Brough en route from Keswick to York and 2 mins into the village found the Outfitters cafe bar. Received a really warm welcome from the owner and the locals created a really friendly atmosphere. There was a great menu of home cooked food and it was hard to choose. I had a jacket potato with coronation chicken and salad which was really delicious; my friend had creamy garlic mushrooms with crusty baguette which was equally good. Brilliant service and top quality food just 2 minutes from the main A66 I would highly recommend this place if you’re driving across the country between the M6 and A1 and want good food at extremely reasonable prices. Brilliant!

What a little gold mine this is. Right opposite a caravan/camp site so very captive audience. However, they didn't sit back on heir laurels. We met friends there who were staying at the site opposite and had a great meal with them. We started with whitebait and followed with chicken breast with ham and mushrooms smothered in cheese and I had gammon egg pineapple and chips. Really good portions and none of us managed to finish our meal and needless to say we didn’t have a pudding. The pub is very well patronised and I believe it is open all day. Well worth a visit.

Called in to get a dessert as we were visiting a friend for lunch and wanted something special. Bought some pieces of cake, which looked nice. Unfortunately, they tasted a bit stale and rather heavy. The buttercream icing was a solid slab. Not at all what we'd been hoping for. We also bought (and were charged for) a sourdough, which turned out to be a standard white loaf when we cut into at home. We won't be back.

We had an excellent afternoon tea for two at Augill Castle. There was a very warm welcome and service. The tea was a very tasty selection of savoury and sweet items, including freshly made scones - and a very nice pot of tea. It was a real treat.
