The options don't cover my experience. A few months ago I booked a two nite stay with breakfast and one evening meal included. This was via a BUYAGUIFTvoucher including all stated which I received for my retirement. First disappointment was yo be informed by the King's Arms that it was not for an evening meal but for £18.00 pp towards it. We agreed yo this, however, I received a call from them today to state the had made an error as the break was over a Bank Holiday (which I did not consider) and I would have to pay a further £25.00 to retain my booking (Retirement Present). Whilst I appreciate I should have checked the small print on my voucher. They should not have accepted my booking and should have honered my reservation in 10 DAYS TIME!. Feel really dissapointed at this treatment from not only the Kings Arms but also Buyaguift. After all, a verbal agreement is a contract

This is a comfy, former coaching inn which offers accommodation. It was just a pit stop lunch for us during a long road journey. Although we only had relatively simple meals, through choice, everyone was happy with them and whilst I couldn’t partake, I did note some decent cask ales on offer. Was starting to fill up when we left so seems popular enough.

My friend and I visited on 21st/22nd June using a voucher given to her for xmas gift. We had tried to book the week previously but due to a horse fair some miles away it was fully booked then. We had looked at the photos online and discovered that it was a local hostelry with rooms to let. Unfortunately our research didn't go far enough and found out on arriving that the village although had lots of walks nearby that there were no shops/cafes, just one other hotel. We had the family room above the front door (1 double/1 single bed) en suite which was very clean and comfortable. There was tea/coffee and kettle/hairdryer, TV in the room and although this is a historic building it had plenty of electrical sockets if desired. Lorraine the manageress and her staff were very friendly and made one feel very welcome. Have to say that the locals in the bar also made us feel included and we did have an invitation to try a taster of fly fishing the next day, which we declined. The voucher we had included one dinner and 2 breakfasts. Have to say that the local produce and generous portions in the restaurant were very well received. The service and ambience really were just right. Be aware that you really do need a car to visit other places locally as the village has no other shops etc to visit but the village green and local church are beautiful

We had a two night stay booked and paid for but had to cut our visit short after only twenty four hours due an illness in our family. That said, our room (No.2) was clean comfortable and well equipped. We had a great nights sleep. Our evening meals were very good and well presented. The full Cumbrian breakfast was delicious and all freshly cooked to order. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wish we could have had our second night, but our family came first. The location is also excellent, you are on the edge of the Lake District National Park and the Noel Lakes, with Ullswater a short drive away and in the opposite direction the Yorkshire Dales.

I booked this B&B with a wowcher offer so I paid £89 for 2 nights B&B for 2. On the hotel side I was very happy, the room was spacious and clean, the bathroom was lovely and clean with a large bath big enough to lie down in, the breakfast was lovely, freshly cooked and the staff asked exactly what you wanted so that side was fab. However I was not so impressed with the restaurant side of the establishment. We went down for dinner on our first night and I was not impressed. Firstly you needed to make a reservation to eat in the bar!! Which I found bizarre, but I was more annoyed that we were not told however the other hotel guests were so we had to take the one table that was left. Also the bar was full of regulars drinking, and I can't say I felt particularly comfortable eating in there. The food itself was fine, although I felt the drinks were expensive, however given the price I paid I was not too bothered. I would have been much happier if we could have eaten in the restaurant rather than the bar area. I would come back to this hotel however I would only use it as a Base and would eat elsewhere.

We went for dinner on Christmas eve, when we arrived (on time) our table was still being set with 8 places even though there were only 5 of us. We ordered our food and drinks, my husband wanted a burger and asked for some bbq sauce with it, the waitress said she would check with the chef. The drinks came and there was something floating in mine so it was sent back. The food arrived fairly quickly, there was no bbq sauce with the burger so my husband asked again and the waitress said she would check, she came back and said he couldn't have any as the chef makes it fresh and he had run out (the hunters chicken is made with bbq sauce so not sure what would happen if we'd ordered that!) My husbands burger was cold so he sent it back, he was then told that it couldn't be heated up so did he want something else off the menu? He ordered a steak, medium rare which didn't arrive until we had all finished eating. When I had paid the bill we realised they had charged us for the steak, which was double the price of the burger so my husband challenged this as we were under the impression that he had been offered an alternative as a goodwill gesture. The manager tried to tell him that they always charge for the highest priced item but did eventually refund the difference. On a plus the rest of the food was nice and my husband said the steak was delicious.

We were very surprised to find we were the only diners when we arrived just after midday and my initial thought was, this does not bode well. How wrong I was! Lovely, friendly girls behind the bar and serving food and, very importantly, delicious food. The menu options are very good and there should be something to suit most tastes. For me it was a starter of Salmon and asparagus fish cakes, followed by a main of Pan seared breast of Gressingham duck with celeriac and smoked bacon mash served with kumquat sauce, seasonal veg and beautifully cooked chips. I rarely eat chips and when I do I like them well cooked and crispy, so I asked that they be cooked like that and they were happy to oblige. I think maybe we arrived earlier than most people would have Sunday lunch, as I am sure this must be a popular restaurant.

After a refreshing and much needed stroll around the pretty village I asked of two of the locals what the pub (Kings Arms) was like. "Really good" was the answer. They were not wrong. Pleasant, welcoming atmosphere, excellent Ales. Wife had a Greek Salad which she proclaimed was one of the best ever had, Burger and chips for me and they were excellent. We stayed here for a couple of nights in July. The staff were friendly, the rooms were clean and well deocrated, the bathroom big and fabulously clean. The location was serene and quiet and relaxing - near enough to the honey pot areas of the Lakes for exploring through the day and very near Penrith. We ate both nights in the restaurant and couldn't believe how really good the food was - in fact we had planned to explore and eat somewhere else the second night, but after our first meal there we soon abandoned that idea! My husband and I are not really 3 course meal people but we made an exception here. There were so many nice things to choose from on the menu (look it up online) that we couldn't resist and overindulged. The prices are good considering how well the food is prepared and how great it tastes and the dining room is quiet and comfortable although you can eat in the bar if you prefer. Can't recommend this place highly enough for both B&B and especially meals.

The portions were too big for me to have a desert. The bar was more lively than the restaurant and has a good vibe. i enjoyed my evening here more than the Temple Sowerby Hotel.

We stayed here following a purchase from groupon. The staff were extremely friendly and I have to say the breakfast was the best I have ever tasted anywhere! The room was lovely and clean also. I don't feel that I would have paid full price as I have stayed at luxurious places for £100 per night. That said the groupon deal was very good and thought it was worth every penny. The most I would probably pay to stay here would be £70.

Good choice of food and well cooked! Would have preferred more choice for vegetarians both on an evening and at breakfast.

We visited this pub whilst visiting family who have recently moved into the village. So glad I dont live as close as they do - we would never be away. The food was delicious and the ambiance of the place is lovely. I just had a starter which was home made Haggis Ravioli in a light pepper sauce - it was delightful. The home made Steak & Ale Pie looked wonderful and the Burger looked as good as any burger ive seen. Everyone enjoyed the lunch and we will certainly visit again when we are in the area. It is a B&B as well but we didnt see the bedrooms, however, we had a look in a lovely lounge and the restaurant looked very nice. I can imagine it would be a nice place to stay.

Having read the reviews of this restaurant, I decided to try this village inn instead of going to nearby Penrith. Many fellow travellers were eating in the very welcoming bar (compleat with roaring fire) but decided on the restaurant which was comfortable, well decorated and had a mass of local photos and articles on display. The food lived up to expectations - my vension was delcious - and the portions very generous. A nice touch was that some of the dishes were topped with a small sprig of Lambs Tongur Lettuce which really set off the appearance of the dish, the delicate leaves of vivid green contrasting with the food. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Finally, it was good to see a small placard saying that they supported the Brewing Industry "Wheel Watch" campaign to promote the sale of Low and Non-Atcohol drinks "in the interests of road safety". As I'm frequently the "designated driver", my dining out is so often spoilt by not being able to get a non-alcoholic drink and having to settle for water - but no problem in this case.

What an excellent place for food either in the restaurant or bar, with good beer and friendly locals.I would eat in the bar just to soak up the atmosphere and the banter between locals or if you want quiet then go through to the restaurant.Starters are a good size so if you like desert then think on early.....We eat here frequently and send lots of others that visit the area very few are disappointed!! Good varying specials

Went on a Groupon deal with my little boy....... A nice little hotel value for money on the deal. Our room was comfortable and clean although it did get cold on a cold feb evening and morning. Also no DVD player to the dismay of me and the little one as we had planned movie nights on an evening... Thank The Lord for I iPods eh...;)Atmosphere....well folks... There is none. Zilch! But that did nt bother is as we like being left to ourselves. Took a trip to ullswater and a steam boat trip. Lovely day without breaking the bank. Great pot painting place in penrith which is a must visit. Crafty monkeys. Not much else to do near there however, but it came to the end of our visit anyway..... Cosey if somewhat cold evening in our room with a carpet picnic and cartoon movie on the I pod. Great intro to my little boy to the lakes.... Or the fringes of. Decent breakfast and off on our travels. If you like being left alone to do your own thing this place is ideal.

A small but elegant dining room, with excellent service, my favorite sort of restaurant. The food was presented beautifully and tasted as good as it looked. It was great to be served by pleasant and happy staff. The husband and wife team, chef and manageress, obviously run a 'happy ship'.

A great hotel run by Freddie and his Wife Mally. Both them and other staff went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our two night stay with them. Although the hotel is over three hundred years old the bedrooms are very modern in their decor and thanks to Mally she keeps them spotlessly clean. The cuisine is a mixture of all tastes including Thia, Italian and some very British favorites served in their restaurant or alternatively in the bar area. One has to wait a little while as all meals are prepared to order with fresh food and not freezer to pan meals one can get in some hotels. The bar has options for most tastes, including two guest bitters (yummy). The hotel also benefits from a beautiful lounge. Thank you Freddie and Mally for a great stay and no doubt we will see you next year. 10 out 10

We decided to stop at the Kings Arms after visiting the Acorn Bank Mill. A great selection of choices for Sunday lunch - seabass was excellent and the homemade apple crumble and custard was to die for. We ate in the pub as it was more relaxed but the restaurant looked lovely. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. Would recommend if you're in the area.

We decided we did NOT want to eat at a motorway service station on our way from Scotland to York so I had searched for places to eat near the A66 and The King's Arms was highlighted. It was well deserved! Very easy to find, no trouble parking, the best Sunday roast I've had in a long time, excellent value for money, the staff were very friendly and helpful and made our children feel welcome too. I highly recommend it. We'll be back the next time we head south and may try a bit of a walk round the village too next time now we know where it is.

Although the heading says Hotel Restaurant, this review is for the accommodation and breakfast and food rating is for breakfast. My Mum, sister and I booked a Spa Day at Centerparcs, Whinfell Forest but could not stay overnight there. However, when we tried to book an hotel locally, everything seemed to be full. Turned out it was Appleby Fair Week and accommodation was full. We found the King's Arms after a long search on the internet and they had just had a cancellation - and we are so pleased we did.It sits at the side of the road in small village about 3 miles from Centerparcs. Warm and friendly welcome. The place is spotless. We had Room number 7, which is a triple and suited us perfectly. Spotless, traditional and cosy in style. Larger room with double and single bed, Comfortable bed and bed linen. Hairdrier, free internet connection (did not use), tea/coffee making facilities. Large bathroom with bath and separate shower cubicle. Small flatscreen TV which we did not use. It looked freshly decorated, as did the hallway. Excellent choice of cooked breakfast with shiny clean coffee and tea pots and spotless cutlery. White linen table covers which are absent from many establishments at breakfast. There is a traditional pub bar which is also relaxed and friendly with a good buzz . The staff work very hard to make it good stay for the guests - and they are successful. Excellent service from check in, to check out including the time spent in the bar later at night. Thanks from us to Mally and the team who worked in the bar until after midnight and were serving breakfasts for us in the morning - still smiling. We paid £40 per person for bed and breakfast in a triple room and thought it good value. We did not have dinner on this occasion but would do that for future - yes we will definitely return if in that area. Ideal option for those visiting Centerparcs but not staying. A good quality small coaching inn style hotel and restaurant with high standards.

The Kings Arms was a welcome find on a cold April morning after a walk. We just had a coffee which was reasonably priced and served with a chocolate. We were given pots of coffee so certainly got our moneys worth. Also had a portion of homecooked chips which were great. The pub is warmly decorated and inviting and has a traditional feel. Excellent service too. Would definately return, hopefully for something more substantial.

Couldn't believe the selection of different coffees on offer for a cafetiere and so reasonably priced just like the delicious scones. All the advice about the area and where else to eat was extremely helpful. What a delightful friendly place!
