We had an excellent afternoon tea for two at Augill Castle. There was a very warm welcome and service. The tea was a very tasty selection of savoury and sweet items, including freshly made scones - and a very nice pot of tea. It was a real treat.

My husband and I are regular customers to this restaurant. We have returned numerous times due to the high quality of the food and surrounding. The dining room is beautiful as is the whole castle. The staff and owners are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. I am already looking forward to returning to enjoy the excellent cuisine. We love the Castle as a whole and always stop over too, this makes the dining experience so relaxed.

A very disappointing evening at a wonderful venue. Staff has little knowledge of service and hospitality. Food was fine. Unfortunately the dining room was the 'motorway' to the bar with a constant stream of people going backwards and forwards which is hardly conducive to a calm and personal diner as you would expect in a historic castle. Not a place we would come back to.

Went up on a very chilly December day for a bit of afternoon tea. New festive menu was on and it was a treat. Amazing selection of savoury and sweet items with the best home made chicken liver pate I’ve ever had. Cute little soups in bottles that were just delightful. And the scones were just to die for among the 9 other treats! Have to say thank you to Wendy who greeted us and whoever made the fire to keep us all toasty. Just a perfect festive experience and we will be back!

I received a voucher for afternoon tea , we travelled through the fantastic scenery in Yorkshire and Cumbria to find this hidden away castle. We received a warm welcome and sat ina large impressive room on lovely soft armchairs in front of a blazing fire. The scones were fresh from the oven and every delicacy was scrumptious. The quiet luxury of our surroundings made a wonderful relaxing experience and it was a lovely treat for my birthday.

We had a fantastic experience at Justin Woods at Augill Castle. We had a three course meal which was delicious. There was a good variety of options for all three courses and each one was perfectly executed. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very relaxing and the staff were brilliant and very attentive. There was a lovely wood paneled lounge with huge comfy sofas where you could relax and have pre-dinner drinks and the toilets were very nice too with lots of nice hand cream. I would defintiely recommend this to anyone and will go again when the days are longer to appreciate the grounds and the castle itself.

We had another fantastic meal on Friday night a Augill Castle, Justin is such an amazing chef. All of the food was delicious and it’s so nice that it’s all made with locally sourced ingredients. The lounge is lovely to have a drink in before and after the meal, very relaxed and comfortable. The staff all look very smart and were very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back soon.

Absolutley delighted to hear that this wonderful hotel has opened their restaurant to non-residents. As a result we enjoyed the most wonderful dinner there before Christmas. The dinning room is delightful; we sat at a table for 4 but there were tables catering for larger groups. Every table was full and there was a lovely atmosphere of people enjoying themselves. The staff were brilliant - friendly, efficient and very professional. Always smiling and making sure you have the best dinning experience. The food was excellent. Wonderful flavours, beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The meal was a locally sourced, perfectly balanced inspired creation - four courses amounting to a mouth-watering sensation! Seated in such a beautiful setting, with a good wine list to accompany a fantastic menu - a meal here is hard to beat. Dining at Augill Castle is not to be missed! Can seriously recommend this restaurant.

We’ve just enjoyed a wonderful meal at Augill Castle, it has been an amazing experience. The food was delicious and all locally sourced which was so lovely, Justin Woods is a fantastic chef and has produced a great menu. The staff were very attentive and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The castle is beautifully decorated and the atmosphere was lovely, warm and cosy, we felt very welcome and very relaxed. Our hosts Simon and Wendy were excellent, they are so passionate about their home and castle and rightly so, we have thoroughly enjoyed their company and we will certainly be back. Thank you for a lovely evening.

What a Gem!! We had a voucher so made quite a long journey for afternoon tea but it was worth it. It’s a quirky venue , very much a home and very attractive . We were early but that wasn’t a problem , our scones arrived after the sandwiches as they were still in the oven - so definitely fresh. Everything was delicious and the staff were efficient but friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Even the loo was lovely.

I recently went to Augill Castle for afternoon tea with two other adults and my 20 month old daughter. We had a prime seat next to the large open fire and my daughter loved wandering around the rest of the downstairs rooms in the castle. It was nice to have the option of either a classic afternoon tea or a more savoury version (I chose the latter). Both were superbly presented, were absolutely delicious and were excellent value for money. We will definitely be back!

Warm, friendly atmosphere. Like a really nice bed and breakfast, except you're in a stunning Victorian Castle, re-imagined and set in beautiful countryside. From the great food to the 12 seater cinema I don't think we've stayed in many places more memorable.

While the food is very well cooked, tasty and nicely presented. The real winner is the communal dining and the honesty bar! Put all of that together and the evenings here will never be boring. We had a wonderful weekend here and this just totally made the difference. Thank you!

There is a set menu from which you make your choice for dinner upon arrival (the offerings change each day). The meal is served at a large common table, which is also where dinner is served. Not only did we have a delicious meal, but we had delightful conversation with other guests; sharing recommendations for travel and discussing current events. The food is very good and generous servings - as much as I wanted to, I couldn't finish my portion. Also the homemade bread is quite good. After a long day of driving, it was a relief not to have to get in the car to drive for a meal. The kids had a great meal, served earlier and then were able to pick a movie to watch in the cinema with popcorn, which allowed us to have a wonderful adult only dinner (it was like a date except we were able to stay in which made it even better).

Stayed here for one night as a last minute break, this was one of only a few places left available in the lakes area at the time,at 1st i thought it was gonna be too far out of the way for anything but im so pleased we stayed there. The place is in a lovely little village and the pub itslef is very cozy with a log burner and a real retro bar full of character, the staff work very hard and nothing was any trouble esp the scotch guy,he never stopped. I wouldnt hesitate to book again,we had a great night and returned home feeling recharged and refreshed.

We recently stayed on a two night Travelzoo deal. The hotel is finished to a lovely stylish clean standard. The pub food was lovely, fresh and tasty. We did find it a little steeper price wise to what we are familiar with. The room was nicely finished and comfortable. The light did pour through the window when cars drove past at night and also under the door from the hallway which kept me awake. The radiator in the room was technical and it wouldn’t come on so we were happy to have an electric heater too. Breakfast was continental, it was nice but we felt it was missing some meat and maybe more exciting cheeses. The coffee was lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful but out of the three we dealt with we felt one of them wasn’t so professional and sincere. Shouting things to the kitchen before the door was closed and generally a bit rude. The check in /out times were a touch late/early. Otherwise well done Dukes head and travelzoo too.
