Had lunch here yesterday and really enjoyed it. The food was delicious and piping hot and the young lad who looked after us was excellent. We’ll be back again soon to try something else from the menu!

Fabulous place with excellent food and owners who are so friendly and welcoming. All this adds up to one of the friendliest, welcoming and food providers I have ever come across. A definite place to visit. We were on the area for three days and went there three times because it was so good. A must to visit and enjoy the food!

Had a lovely evening meal there last night. There was a wide choice of food, including the gluten-free and vegetarian options that we needed. Everything was well-cooked and tasty. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. And all at very reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend and plan to return. Thank you!

We visited for Sunday lunch as a family group of 4. We are creatures of habit as we usually order the beef Sunday lunch or the steak and ale pie. As always the food was delicious, generous portions of lovely vegetables, which are served to the table in serving dishes to enable diners to help themselves. The waiting staff tend to be quite young, I would say 6th form students, they are efficient, friendly and an asset to the business. The Manager/Owner was also serving in the dining room. We have eaten at The Brantwood Hotel many times and we have never been disappointed and would highly recommend.

This was a stop made to slove an eating break after a busy day. Not been before, but it was convenient. Yes, would go again anytime. Food was lovely, something on the menu to suit all tastes, lots of GF options (not an issue for me, but would be for others), and well looked after by lovely staff. So. ... What more do you want me to say? I know. .... Do go!

We had a lovely meal here this evening, my son had the ribs which he declared were ‘banging’. My husband had the half roast chicken with the plate to start, both courses were lovely, I had the homemade steak pie on the recommendation of the host which was a great decision. We ordered the sherry trifle and the chocolate pot for dessert, unfortunately the trifle was not very good and seemed to be a half portion. When we mentioned this to the gentleman on settling our bill, he immediately amended the price charged and then went to the kitchen and brought us a portion of trifle to try at home. The portion we took home was perfect, tasted of sherry and was a good size. On reflection we think that possible the waiter brought my husband a small portion of summer pudding as there was no custard on it at all. The prompt correction of the dessert to take home was brilliant, overall customer service was just lovely, very welcoming and hospitable. Thank you for a lovely evening (the wine was really good too 😉)

We were a family group of 6 who had Sunday lunch recently. We have eaten here on many occasions and have found the food to be delicious and generous portions. The serving staff appear to be students; they were efficient, friendly and attentive which was great. Just a couple of observations, the hotel is quite traditional in its style which I love, but I do feel the conservatory needs an update. The cushions on some of the chairs have totally lost their padding so you could feel the base of the chair while sitting on it. One of the little tables wobbled so much that you put your drink on the table it was likely to tip over, we managed to find something to prop the table to prevent our drinks from tipping over. The flooring looks dated and this area could be updated inexpensively. The majority of our group had roast beef which was delicious, with lots of fresh vegetables, the portion sides were generous. A couple of the group ordered sticky toffee pudding but when it came it didn’t look like any sticky pudding we had ever tasted before, it was more like 2 slices of fruit cake, (it was served with ice cream). However I did eat it and it was nice but it tasted like fruit cake not sticky toffee pudding. This was a minor blip, all the other desserts my family had looked great and tasted great too. I would recommend the restaurant and I am sure we will return for lunch when we are next visiting the area.

I came here with a friend and a dog. We ate in the bar as that's dog friendly. It was cozy with open fires blazing. The welcome was ...well .... welcoming..what more could you ask for?! The staff were very attentive. We had already chosen what we were having from viewing the online menu. That all changed when we got there and saw the specials. I had the liver and onions because it's something i don't cook. It was deeelish. My friend said the small fish and chips was lovely and more than enough. The dog thought her water was exceptionally good. I asked for a glass of Malbec and it was so delicious, I asked what it was. It's called La Bonita...if you like a superb red then this is the one (in my humble opinion). I cannot fault this place. Reckon I will try the Sunday dinner next time I'm working in the North Lakes 😋😋

We've eaten here several times and will do so again I'm sure (my elderly mum lives within a few miles of here and it's a good place to eat out - one of the best pubs in the area and deservedly popular). Good size portions too, and good value. One gripe from me though, as a lifelong vegetarian and one who loves my food (and this is the reason for giving the place only 3 stars when I've given it more previously): the vegetarian options are pretty limited and from memory (and previous reviews I've written) they've hardly changed over the years. Soup or deep-fried camembert are the starter options - OK, but surely it would be better to offer a wider choice? And then for a main course it's spinach and mushroom lasagne or a risotto. I've had the lasagne almost every time I've been here and it's tasty, admittedly, but it's hardly exciting and given the popularity of the Brantwood and everyone's increasing interest in eating less meat and having a more flexible approach to the diet it'd be worth branching out a bit? it's all very well to stick to the obvious popular options but most of us like to be adventurous at times as well. It puts me off coming back here again in the near future and we do visit the Lakes every month or two so that's a potentially regular customer you'll see less than you might deserve... just a thought!

We decided to try here for food one evening during our stay as it was just around the corner from where we were staying. I had the chicken balti curry with half rice and half chips this was really nice, my husband had the gammon which he asked for no egg but extra pineapple which we were told no problem. His food was average to say the least and no extra pineapple, the visit here was made better though by the chocolate fudge cake and icecream which was lovely.

My wife and I have been visiting this hotel for lunch on a day out to 'the Lakes' for three or four years. The premises are pleasing and have a well kept ornamental garden surrounding the car park at the rear. The restaurant is tastefully furnished, the local staff are lovely and the food is always very good. The 'light lunch' (two courses for £8) is excellent value for money, but there is an extensive menu for those who wish to be more adventurous. We haven't stayed there yet, but the bedrooms have been upgraded and are well appointed. The proprietor is 'hands on' and very welcoming and the hotel is a great credit to him and his staff.

The Brantwood emailed me through menus that evening and a week later I confirmed our choices. We arrived to a warm welcom and were shown to our table in the restuturant, the meal shortly followed. All 11 meals were great, myself and eldest son had ordered the spare ribs and they were amazing, the best I have ever had. Waiters were polite and nothing was any bother, we ordered sweets and again these arrived in a timely manner and were very large portions. The restaurant was full and this shows quality of the food. We had a great evening and will defiantly be returning for more ribs.

The choice of dishes suited all ages and were spoilt for choice.Richard allowed us to decorate the tables of the small dining room prior to the party which was kind.We had a brilliant evening. The food was great, everyone enjoyed their food. Considering there were 22 of us, the food came out quickly and was piping hot. This was another fine meal in a pub/hotel we've grown to like a lot. We held back this time and didn't order starters (you've got to save space for the mains and possibly puddings after all...). The only problem with that is that you have to wait for a while with just a drink - terrible problem isn't it! The mains were delicious - a generous helping of roast duck with a Grand Marnier and orange sauce, a tasty roast chicken breast, and a really tasty home-made spinach and mushroom lasagne that was way better than the traditional pub lasagne of old. The two meat mains came with chips, dauphinoise potatoes and a shared plate of vegetables cooked al dente; the lasagne came with a home-made coleslaw and salad and chips. Lots of delicious food to go at and we all three enjoyed every mouthful, helped by large glasses of Merlot and a pint of Helvellyn Gold on draught. Amazingly two of the party still had space for more, so had the Bailey's creme brulee (lovely and tasting very strongly of Bailey's - divine) and the pub's own homemade tiramisu which was exceptional. The only thing missing was some decaff coffee for the espresso machine so I had to finish off with a decaff filter coffee, but that was a very minor disappointment during an excellent meal. Pretty reasonably-priced too, and the popularity of the dining room on a wet and windy Thursday in mid-March says it all really. Definitely somewhere which we'll come back to, and more than once.

We've been here before and the food and the welcome here didn't disappoint. The welcome is warm but not over the top, the place is attractively-decorated in the run-up towards Christmas, and the food is still top-notch. My wife had what she declared to be the best duck (actually half a large duckling) in orange and Grand Marnier sauce she's ever had, the other two in the party had a delicious steak and ale pie and a pork dish, and I tucked into a very tasty spinach and mushroom lasagne with salad and chips. Surprisingly the accompanying vegetables almost stole the show - dauphinois potatoes (a signature dish here, it's true), creamed green leafy veg, and a huge bowl of mashed carrots and swede which had everyone coming back for more. We also managed several puddings between us (notably a couple of brulees and a truly scrumptious chocolate and hazelnut tart which mercifully wasn't quite as rich as it sounded but was definitely delicious. An excellent meal, a couple of nice wines to accompany it, and a fine evening. We'll keep coming back.

Stopped of for lunch and found the staff to be really good and the surroundings quaint. However the food was merely average and when a bus party arrived the lack of facilities became rather obvious. For a bar / restaurant / hotel to only only have one ladies toilet made for a tetchy atmosphere, to say the least. I know it's an old coaching inn but this is the 21st century! Having made a detour to get here we hoped for something good but the average pub grub did it no favours.

I stayed here just for one night, but I was very well looked after. The owners are in the process of upgrading the hotel: my bedroom decor was very modern indeed. The hall etc are on the list and will be done!Dinner is served between 6.30 and 8.30. I was going to a film at Rheged from 7 - 8.30. So they gave me a starter at 6 pm to keep me going, and saved my main course until I came back: can't ask for better than that. If you want gluten-free or have allergies, make sure you let them know in advance. Breakfast was typical English, no croissants unfortunately! the dinner menu was more interesting.Free wifi downstairs and in some rooms. Rooms 1, 3, and 7 are at the top of the stairs by the fire door [which bangs shut] so you might want to take earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

This isn't the first time we've eaten here which probably says everything you need to know. The entrance and bar area are a little dated and unfortunately when we visited the beer choice was down to one type and the barrel needed changing (20min job apparently) so had to settle for larger, at least it reminded me of my youth!! However, negatives aside, the food was top notch. The restaurant is clean and very busy, always a bonus. The food isn't fancy it's good honest "home" cooking and I can't fault it. Family of ours were staying in the area and were recommended this place for Sunday lunch. This country pub is located about 3 miles outside the centre of Penrith just off the A66 heading toward Keswick. It has plenty of parking at the rear. They are set up to cater for larger parties in the dining room although there is a more traditional bar area and conservatory. Most of the party had beef although I had lamb and one of the children had a child portion of chicken breast and another had beef lasagne. The meat was delicious and a good portion with huge yorkshire puddings and an excellent choice of well cooked veg such as red cabbage and leeks in cheese sauce in addition to carrots / swede and the usual types of potatoes. Most of the main courses were under £10 and the excellent quality sweets were about £5 so a 2 course meal for 11 including a round of drinks and coffees for some came to £180 which I thought was very good value. Service was friendly and efficient.

Had a fine meal here earlier this evening with my parents: lovely to arrive here on a cold and icy evening and be greeted with a warm and welcoming pub. We sat in one of the smaller dining areas behind the bar (there's also a huge main dining room, with a large group in it, and another smaller separate dining room too - a good atmosphere and feel to all of them). Nice decor, including some quirky wall art, in good taste. Staff greeted us quickly and sat us down, offered cushions for the bench seat, and took drinks orders promptly. The wine list is a pretty decent one, with a choice of 3 reds and 3 whites by the glass, though one minor disappointment was that there's only one ale on a hand pump - a very drinkable golden ale admittedly. The menu's pretty extensive and there are some additional specials every day. All our choices were excellent and well-presented: we missed out on starters and moved straight to main courses, including duck with orange, Brantwood chicken with a cream sauce - these two accompanied by dauphinoise potatoes and delicious mixed veg, a mix of carrots cooked just al dente and green beans - and a tasty mushroom and spinach lasagne with coleslaw and a big and colourful side salad and a helping of chips. Portions are a good size but not excessive. Again a minor criticism that there were only two vegetarian mains on the menu, the lasagne and a mediterranean vegetable risotto, which was a bit restrictive given the dozen or more meat and seafood mains. We did have just about enough room left for desserts and were pleased we had some: the dessert menu is a long and toothsome one. We settled for chocolate mousse, Baileys Brulee, and a lemon cheesecake, which were uniformly delicious (you can see we were being really restrained.....). Together with two glasses of wine and a large beer the bill only came to £67 for an excellent meal for 3, which we think was really good value. We'll definitely be back.

Attended the Braidwood for a Christmas party (approx 50 guests). Staff were all welcoming and friendly, food was delicious well presented and served efficiently (esp. Liked the "pudding grotto!"), despite having to cater for 50 odd at once. Staff even tolerated being dragged in as "judges" for party games with excellent humour. Well done all, highly recommended!

Have been eating at the brantwood hotel for years and have never had a disappointing meal. On my last visit I was thrilled to see a burger on the menu - not just any burger but a wagyu burger. Without needing any persuasion I ordered the wagyu burger and was told I would not be disappointed - they were right, it was delicious. Generous portion of burger with all the trimmings and the best bit was that you got a portion of the famous BBQ sauce that is on the brantwood spare ribs on the side. Would recommend to anyone in the area who loves burgers as this was the best I have had!

There were 8 of us called for meal whilst touring the area. We booked late in the day but they managed to fit us in with a short wait. Bar staff were very friendly and the selection of beers was good. Only downside was that one of the orders for food was missed resulting in it arriving after everyone else had more or less finished their meals. Otherwise this would have been 4 stars. Would recommend checking that the order has been accurately taken if you are in a larger group.

Booked in the previous evening, although I'm sure that they would fit you in if you waited a little while. Excellent home cooked food and a menu with a difference. Nothing fancy or over the top, just good food cooked really well. I enjoyed an old time favourite of Salmon in sauce and it was simply delicious with beautifully prepared vegetables. A must have is the very sherry trifle, simply to die for. We had a coffee and tea in the conservatory and enjoyed simply relaxing after a hectic week. Thank you to the very pleasant owners and intend to book again with you next visit to north lakes.

We visit here quite often, not unlike a lot of others who appear to be locals / The staff are always pleasant and the lunch time specials inclusive of a dessert are excellent value for money and well presented

Visited here one Monday in March for a light lunch, it was excellent, and the service was superb. A fixed price of £7.00 for two courses and there was an extensive choice. Will return soon.

Having reviewed the hotel, I think it only fair that I review the restaurant as well. As I was staying in the hotel, I didn't venture out to see other restaurants or pubs in the area. The Brantwood's menu is reasonably priced - about what you would pay in a decent pub, but when I went they were doing a 'Winter Dinner' offer of two courses and a glass of wine or prosecco for £15. I started with an excellent pate and salad. I am not sure what sort of bread was used for the toast that went with the pate, but the pate itself was clearly home made as was the red onion dressing for it - interestingly more a sauce than a chutney. For main, I ordered the spare ribs, which were served with chips. The ribs were exquisite - falling off the bone - and the sauce was excellent - I am not sure what was in it but it complemented the ribs perfectly. The chips came in a bowl the size of which some restaurants would serve an entire meal and were cooked to perfection - not over done and not white in places. If I had been there before a weekend I would have tried to stay at the hotel another night just to go back to the restaurant.

A group of four of us had a drink at the bar and we were then shown to our table. We all chose from the light lunch menu - two courses for £7. Helpful staff, great food and great value with a good choice. No complaints at all about the first courses. For the desserts, the cheesecake was exceptional. I had the marmalade bread and butter pudding which came with custard. Two of our party asked for cream instead of custard - no problem. What more could we want. We came away very happy. It is the third time we have eaten there and will definitely be doing so again.

Excellent meal at the Brantwood. Can not fault a thing about it, except maybe I shouldn't t have had the pudding. I am now so full still two hours later. There was plenty of staff to serve us and the owner was very attentive, nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was wonderful and a great atmosphere. Oh, maybe the car park was a bit too small, but only because there were so many people there, but that says it all doesn't it.

Called at the kings arms but it was full so this was my second choice a little quite but we where made welcome. The food was very good and the service fast, would go again. Staying near by on a weeks holiday would recommend if in the area not too expensive.

A group of us go out once a month and are trying different resteraunts. It was a busy night as there was a late christmas party. We all enjoyed our meal. Just had two courses I had the chicken in a sauce which was lovely and sticky toffee pudding to follow. I also enjoyed that but next time I go I will have the raspberry pavlova as when one of my friends got theirs It was one of those lovely chewy ones not the normal none cooked ones which I cant stomach. Overall a lovely meal and my husband and I are going tonight and see how he enjoys as he is a coliac so watch this space for the next review
