The Sun Inn in Eden

Stopped by for a bit of lunch after a long walk, food was nice, only ordered sandwiches which came with a side salad, not loads of flavour but nice enough.

Long drive and decided to stop overnight at Penrith. Used Tripadvisor and decided to go with The Sun Inn. Despite generally positive you still have that nagging doubt. What can I say, our stay was just so special. It’s small vibrant pub with great atmosphere and a free house. We had to wait till later for our meal, due to being so busy. Always a good sign. The drink selection was excellent and I went with an IPA and the wife a Malbec. We were just going to have one before the meal, but we ended up having a couple. Sat down for the meal and advised everything home cooked and locally sourced. First thing we noticed was the huge portions being served at other tables so we just went with a main. I took a photo of the menu and shared with my friends. A 12oz Porterhouse Steak for £22! No way. The last Porterhouse I had was at Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Kitchen Restaurant in Edinburgh and that was circa £100. I can’t deny I was sceptical. My wife and I decided we are hungry what’s to lose… Firstly the plate were stacked and the homemade chips and onion rings were awesome. As for the steak, just wow. Perfectly cooked and accompanied by a Malbec. I may not be a foodie, but been around the world on business and know my steak. This was specially good. The room was clean c/w coffee, tea, bottles of water and biscuits. En-suite bathroom with a dual head shower. Toiletries provided. The breakfast was superb. If I was to have one comment possibly too much. I eat like a horse and struggled. Maybe to much wine from the night before. The service is attentive and engaging. Keen to make sure everything is alright and welcome feedback. Overall, this place is incredible value for money and best of all you feel valued. As for the food, sensational. We will be back. Thoroughly and unequivocally recommended. It’s a gem.

Easter Sunday lunch, wow what excellent service despite being very busy. Food was top notch, served beautifully and in a timely manner even though they were very busy. Thank you one and all for a lovely experience.

We preordered a party of six. very busy in the bar when we went in (Carlisle Race day) got our drinks and were seated in the dining room. Dining room full. Was told our meal would be 5 minutes was maybe 10 but it didnt matter, Bit confusing when we received as seemed to have different names to what we remembered ordering. Mine was rump steak and the waitress called it sizzling beef. Another member ended up with two meals. Anyway the chef came out and sorted thanks to him. we all had a laugh. meal was lovely only thing was no-one came and asked if we would like a sweet. It wasnt a big deal as we were too full. would have been nice to have been asked though. I am sure we will be back.

What a fantastic find, lovely country pub with a terrific young ,next generation hospitality/ caterer , I wish the team all the luck in the world, old school great service Deserve to succeed!

Went for a meal .. we were put in the corner and left . The girl gave us the menu and left us ,not even offered a drink ..we sat and sat no one came we got up and left we passed the bar and no one asked were we ok .. will not be back

I enjoyed a quiet drink in here. Only one cask ale on offer but it was very nice. Rather busy with diners but seating available at the bar.

great service and freindly staff " food was excellent "food came out very fast as well as one member off staff who run round when very busy to keep people happy" all staff do a fantastic job.

We visited for a family birthday. The menu was very limited, with only fish or sausage seemingly available and everything came only with chips. The fish was fresh although the batter a little on the greasy side which dripped through and saturated the chips that were underneath and a little under cooked. If the menu was due to it being a special night it would be good to have been warned at the time of booking. Also despite being fairly quiet the food took around 40 minutes to arrive. Staff were great, friendly and helpful.

Dropped in for lunch. Helpful friendly staff. Good choice on the menu. Food was great. Service was good. Plenty of space inside and out.

Did not expect much, looks like a country pub, but the staff were lovely, the food was terrific. Who would have thought that a fish finger butty would be a taste experience. If it was local I would be here every week.

Lovely rural pub. Comfy warm accommodation. Rooms clean . Excellent evening meal and breakfast. Good selection of beers at the bar. Staff friendly and helpful. Big car park. Grotty looking marquee in the grounds puts you off a bit when you first arrive.

Lovely pub. Great food and great accommodation. Staff couldn't do enough for us!!! We stayed in the Bunks Room with shared bathroom/shower facilities. The room was great and the beds were clean, well prepared and very comfortable, with quality mattresses. Bikes were stored securely and they even washed our kit overnight!!! Top staff. Top place.

We were recommended this pub/restaurant for dinner by our BnB host. The food was well presented, and tasted okay, but not outstanding (I had the salmon fillet with crab pasta bundles which was a special of the day). Our waitress was extremely casual which I think was appreciated by the regulars, but a little disconcerting for us as out-of-towners.

Este fue el almuerzo de Año Nuevo de nuestros apicultores, aproximadamente 40 de nosotros.La comida estaba caliente y muy bien presentada. El servicio fue amigable y eficiente. El restaurante era cálido y cómodo.Yo recomendaría a cualquiera.Elegí la seta Wellington, que estaba llena de sabor con una pasta crujiente bien cocinada, una buena selección de verduras. Tampoco hubo una larga espera entre cursos. Una experiencia muy agradable durante todo el año.

Very welcoming and friendly pub / restaurant in a beautiful little village. Accomodating staff and excellent Steak. I've been there a few times in the past and the excellent quality remains the same .. See you again soon. Well done guys.

Wow! This was a great find, especially if you like real ale, good pub food in a quintessential English Freehouse pub! My partner and I had a couple of excellent pints of London Pride, very well kept and served up at right temperature, not too cold as you find in so many chain pubs. We had a sharing board for two of 5 portions, they were all great, all served piping hot with a nice side salad on the side. We followed it up with some fantastic apple & rhubarb crumble, we decided to share and the lady serving us gave us both custard and ice cream on the side at no extra cost. The staff were all lovely friendly and enthusiastic, we can thoroughly recommend this place for a nice pint and bar food.

We booked the 6 bed bunk room - it was excellent for the four of us. The bunks were very comfortable and we got a good nights sleep. There was a good sized TV in the room and we had access to 2 good showers across the hall way. All the facilities were clean and modern.We did not have an evening meal so we can't comment on food. Did manage a pint from one of 2 local real ales. That was fine. Breakfast in the morning was good and the staff were accommodating - they allowed us to make our sandwiches and fill a hot water flask.All in all I would recommend The Sun Inn for a stop on the Coast to Coast Bike Ride.

We had three nights at The Sun Inn Pooley Bridge 18th to 21st feb .We had stayed a few years ago and is as good now as it was then .The staff are amazing nothing was too much trouble, the food was excellent they have a light bite menu which is good if you have a small appetite. Our bedroom was a good size,well maintained and the shower room was stunning. We had a bit trouble with the heating but the manager came up and sorted it out .He was very helpful and always cheerful even when we messed up the breakfast menu form. We will stay at this hotel again and would recommend it to our friends and family. Thank you for an enjoyable stay

We set off to eat at another pub but found it had a function on and so we could not eat there. Our daughter suggested The Sun Inn at Newton Reigny. We were are pleasantly surprised with the welcome we received, the decor was lovely, a real village pub atmosphere. We were offered a table in a room to the back of the pub which was very comfortable and well decorated. The menu offered something for all of us. I had the curry (which was delicious) three of our party had differing burgers, one had the steak and ale pie and one the lamb hotpot. All were hot, generous quantities and very tasty. Everyone commented on how much they had enjoyed the food. The two childrens meals also went down very well. All in all we had a very relaxed night. All the staff were extremely friendly, happy to have a chat and a bit of fun. We enjoyed it so much we are planning to go again this week. Excellent value for money. Thanks to everyone there for making us so welcome. Oh and the beer was good too.

Nuestro ser y ser nosotros reservamos una mesa aquí y no nos decepcionó. Buena comida de pub en un rom agradable comedor. Tarta de mi esposa era grande pero caliente y sabroso, y las patatas fritas eran buenas. Mi filete de trucha era excelente. Los postres también encantados, cesta de fresas, uno de los mejores que he tenido. Volveremos sin duda.

Great atmosphere warm and welcoming. . The menu is exciting and our Sunday lunch was hot and plenty of it .

Llamé al restaurante pub el sábado último con un amigo muy antiguo de la mina, es un lugar extraño.

El viernes por la noche fuimos a una comida con nuestra familia, hemos estado muchas veces antes, ya que vivimos en la zona y la comida era excelente, como siempre. Mi pareja y yo tuvimos la hamburguesa de wagu, con queso derretido y cebollas fritas, fue increíble, la mejor hamburguesa que hemos tenido, y las patatas fritas eran algo pesada crujientes y nos encantó. Las leyes tenían el cordero y puré de patatas y que sólo fracaso, se funde en la boca carne y cremoso puré. Estamos fuera allí para el almuerzo de domingo para San Valentín, como las carnes asadas son la mejor de la zona. El equipo es genial y no puedo hacer más por ti, siempre muy acogedores. Es un gran negocio familiar. Nos dieron la oportunidad de ver las habitaciones que están abriendo pronto, han hecho un gran trabajo con un acabado de primera categoría.

Went here for an evening meal because we live locally and had heard great things about this place. We weren't disappointed and the food was great.

Es un pub encantador con buenas instalaciones de comedor en la zona de bar y restaurante adicional. Se sirven cervezas locales y extremadamente comida sana bien preparada de un menú y platos. Comimos allí tres veces en una semana.

Visitamos el Sol Inn a principios de año y el servicio era muy lento, ya que la posada acababa de abrir, dijo que nos gustaría volver cuando totalmente en marcha.

Had a meal in this pub a couple of weeks ago. The service was great as was the food. It's real village pub but the restaurant has been upgraded and is quite bistro style. There's a good choice of food on the menu and the meal came really quickly. Would certainly recommend this pub as a good place to eat.

We had a very good and reasonably priced lunch at the Sun Inn in Newton Reigny. The portions were huge and the food was piping hot and good quality. Although there was a little wait for our lunch to arrive it was well worth waiting for and there seemed to be a large party in the dining room off of the bar area for a celebration which I am sure was the reason for the delay. The staff are very friendly and if you go there for a drink in the evening it seems to be busy with folk from the local agricultural college but it wasn't at all rowdy and all the young fry were extremely pleasant and well behaved. This is" the only pub in the village" and well worth a visit if you are in the area.
