I was extremely shocked when I asked for a pot of hot water with my tea to be told I would have to pay £1 for extra hot water (I don’t have milk as drink my tea black). I have been to lots of cafes and never been charged for extra hot water .. in fact in the majority of cafes you are given a pot without asking. The waitress was so apologetic and admitted she was embarrassed having to tell customers. I feel it is totally unnecessary and next time I visit Pooley Bridge I’ll take my custom elsewhere.

Fellbites is situated right in the centre of Glenridding so is easy to get to. The menu is good and on our visit they had a number of specials too. My wife ordered Spicy lentil soup and I ordered beef burger with jalapeños and chips, both meals came out quickly, were piping hot and tasted delicious. We would recommend this place.

Don’t drive too fast! Be sure to give this a try, food was delicious; proper Cumbrian comfort food reasonably priced and a toasty log burner on the go. Well worth the visit and most definitely will be back. Cakes look huge too Why did I never stop before?..

Stopped for lunch and ordered what seemed to be the signature fish. The Whitby Whale aka fish n chips As the bane suggests it was large and looked impressive when served but inside the fish was pretty tasteless and very greasy A Whale sized dissapointed !! At over twice the price and half the quality of my local fish n chip shop Maybe a place to avoid The staff seemed pretty indifferent to my disappoint too

We discovered this place by chance when shopping in Penrith a fortnight ago - we live around 22 miles away. We drove past and thought it looked cosy and welcoming so once we had finished shopping we made our way there. The waiting staff were lovely and fitted us in even when they were really busy as it was Valentine's Day. The food was absolutely delicious, we had tapas and seven items was more than enough for the two of us. The bill came to around £55, which we thought was excellent value for money. We were so impressed that we made a special trip back two weeks' later and, once again, the service was fantastic and the food was amazing. The bar/restaurant is cosy and comfortable and the atmosphere was friendly and lively. We will definitely be going back again. Highly recommended!

Visited this amazing little pub twice, whilst on holiday at Flusco Wood Lodges. What a fantastic place to eat and drink. The first time we went was with my niece and her hubby. The men had the steak and ale pie, which was to die for. My niece had the "small" fish and chips and I had the seafood basket consisting of scampi, calamari, whitebait and king prawns. All portions were large (even the small fish and chips) and tasted amazing. The second time we went it was just the two of us. We had off of the OAP menu. Hubby had the fish and chips and I had the lamb and redcurrant shepherd's pie. I expected it to be minced but was pleasantly surprised that it was like a lamb stew under lovely mashed potatoes. I felt I'd been to my Grandmas house. It was so lovely. The staff and service were also fantastic. We are planning to make a trip to try the Sunday lunch and cannot wait. What an amazing little hidden gem. Looking forward to visiting you again. Thank you. X

We spent the night on the way from Suffolk to Cairnryan. Looked good on Booking.com. Found staff very friendly and helpful and dinner and breakfast were good but room was small and dark and M6 provided constant background noise. Also fairlybm chilly as heating wasn’t on and hot towel rail in bathroom was cold.

The black Swan..you couldn't ask for more , clean, quiet and tasty , I really want to thank Jack and Steve for a really pleasant getaway for me and my wife , felt relaxed after 2 minutes in this pub , beers good, but the food served at dinner was fantastic, way better than any pub grub, fresh ingredients and perfectly cooked , a joy to eat it and there is plenty of it , jacky worked tirelessly to keep every one happy and Steve in the kitchen does wonders ,thanks to the other staff too, will be coming back ..oh and sorry I forgot to hand in the keys .. post them back tomorrow
