Visited twice during our long weekend in Cumbria. Once just us ladies popped in for a look around during Storm Babet, decided to have a coffee then were easily persuaded to change that to a bottle of Prosecco 😆 We visited again for Sunday breakfast (followed by delicious cake) with both families and two dogs. I’m so sorry we didn’t catch the name of the wonderful lady who served us on Friday and Sunday. So friendly and helpful. The place caters so well for dog owners too. They are more than welcomed. Our teenage daughter also bought some of the local craft gifts. If you are in the area, do go in. It’s so worth it. Thank you. X

Popped in for Sunday lunch and was very impressed. Service was quick and friendly, and the roast beef was perfect. Good size portions and was enjoyed by all.

Great to have an excuse to visit The Hive for lunch again. Delicious food as ever, recommend the ham, egg and chips or steak pie, chips and very tasty peas. Enjoyed browsing the craft shop and unusual cards. Pleased to hear they’re going to do 3 course Sunday lunches from this week. Thank you. Keep up the good work in your history beautiful renovation.

As we walked through the doors I couldn't help but say 'Wow!' Amazing converted chapel that is a multi-use community building. And the cafe lived up to its reputation! Great breakfast! Lovely way to start the morning after a peaceful nights stay in the carpark opposite in the camper. Dogs welcome too!

We went for breakfast in the Hive. We had the vegetarian friend breakfast which was lovely. The service was friendly. There seemed to be a good choice of breakfast and lunches. The former chapel itself is beautiful with stained glass and the original organ (which someone played when we were there). The scones looked delicious.

We used to visit The Hive at Nenthead, a few times a year, so we're both REALLY looking forward to going there this afternoon. However on entering, the place was fit to burst with Cyclists spread all over the place, making it very difficult to find a table. The craft section now resides upstairs, as the Café has taken over that little space too. Before, maybe a year and half ago ALL the food was absolutely DELICIOUS and Homemade by an absolutely LOVELY lady, whom we became very friendly with, and run with two AWESOME members of staff! However today was an absolute disaster!!!! We ordered a cheese and pickle sandwich, a fruit scone with jam & cream, one Americano with hot milk and a milky coffee. The sandwich arrived without salad - it was one in the afternoon, they had run out of salad, but sent frozen chips instead. The bread looked soooo sorry for itself, pale and white, with processed cheese slices and some sort of cheap pickle that looked brown and very uninspiring! The scone finally arrived - luke warm, but as hard as concrete with 4 sort of brown things in, I guess raisins, and tasted like it had only been shown the sugar bowl! NO BUTTER AT ALL!!!! Jam looked like it had NEVER seen any fruit in it, and clotted cream which looked lumpy! Coffee arrived - one Americano with hot milk, and another coffee which looked exactly like the Americano! I said no and what we had already ordered, but the waiter guy said "What's a milky coffee"!?!! "Oh you mean a Latte"? Ok then, yes I will have that! £15.35 for absolute rubbish!

What a fabulous community café, gift shop and gallery. Friendly service, a nice range of simple menu choices for lunches and breakfasts all served in a relaxed atmosphere. The building is beautiful and a credit to the community group who run The Hive. We'll 🐝 back.

A great place for C2C riders, but equally as good for others just wishing to take a break with good, honest, and affordable food. Wonderful interior and great staff who are more than happy to help, the Hive is highly recommended. And e-bike recharging is permitted... in exchange for a donation to the organ repair fund... which is perfectly reasonable. All in all, I wish the Hive was located closer to home; I'd visit regularly.

We arrived as a group of 4 cyclists doing the Coast to Coast bike ride. We had already done Hartside Summit so were in need of some food, drink and charge for our e-bikes. We were greeted with smiles and told we could plug our bikes in for as long as we needed. The food was delicous and the staff were so friendly. Possibly the best little cafe I have ever eaten in. Actually going to drive back there and try some more bits on the menu.

Stayed here for one night as a last minute break, this was one of only a few places left available in the lakes area at the time,at 1st i thought it was gonna be too far out of the way for anything but im so pleased we stayed there. The place is in a lovely little village and the pub itslef is very cozy with a log burner and a real retro bar full of character, the staff work very hard and nothing was any trouble esp the scotch guy,he never stopped. I wouldnt hesitate to book again,we had a great night and returned home feeling recharged and refreshed.

We recently stayed on a two night Travelzoo deal. The hotel is finished to a lovely stylish clean standard. The pub food was lovely, fresh and tasty. We did find it a little steeper price wise to what we are familiar with. The room was nicely finished and comfortable. The light did pour through the window when cars drove past at night and also under the door from the hallway which kept me awake. The radiator in the room was technical and it wouldn’t come on so we were happy to have an electric heater too. Breakfast was continental, it was nice but we felt it was missing some meat and maybe more exciting cheeses. The coffee was lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful but out of the three we dealt with we felt one of them wasn’t so professional and sincere. Shouting things to the kitchen before the door was closed and generally a bit rude. The check in /out times were a touch late/early. Otherwise well done Dukes head and travelzoo too.
