Second visit. Had the 3 course dinner this time it was nice they offered paired wines even with the 3 course menu. Really beautiful food. Beautifully presented with great service

We've eaten at quite a few restaurants with rooms in the lakes and can honestly say that this is up there if not ahead of the best. The rooms are fantastically clean and super cosy. We had the 3 course menu and opted for an additional cheese course. The food was super clean, very tasty and very well executed. Breakfast also brilliant. This place is a credit to the owners and everyone who works there.

Another fabulous dinner at this special restaurant that never fails to deliver superb food with great service. We believe it compares very favourably with fine dining establishments in major cities and is a little gem for Pooley Bridge in The Lake District. We visit around every 3 months and continue to be impressed with all the variations that chef Phil Corrie comes up with. We would also give our thanks to restaurant manager Nuno who always looks after us really well.

This was my 6th or 7th visit to 1863 over the years but the first for lunch. We had the lunchtime tasting menu with wine pairing which, at £115, was good value. All courses were excellent from the beetroot, to the turbot and venison. Wines were well paired and good quality. The staff very friendly which provided a lovely atmosphere. Next visit will not be far away.

It's very rare that we will make an effort to return to a restaurant as we're not really foodies. However, the quality of the food and service at 1863 ensured that this rule was broken, with my wife and I returning for a second visit after our first experience in the Summer of 2019. Nothing much has changed in the meantime. Friendly service in an informal, but inviting atmosphere, with a delicious fine dining experience. Dinner is expensive, even without any accompanying wine, but it still remains value for money. We look forward to coming back again next time we're back in the UK.

Each course was absolutely divine, our favourites being the lamb tartare, lamb loin with sticky lamb breast and the rhubarb and egg custard dessert. The server was extremely knowledgeable about each course, explaining them in detail, emphasising the restaurant’s use of locally sourced produce. We opted for the three course dinner, but next time would have no hesitation opting for the seven course taster menu with matched wines. A most enjoyable and memorable evening.
