The best restaurants serving British food in Chester City Cheshire West and Chester North West

Stopped in Wednesday night and found it a delightful traditional pub (ie no swearing or use of electronic devices). The bartender was delightfully well-learned in local history and took the time to write out a laundry list of local stops for us. The atmosphere was great, and the conversation (mostly) enjoyable, save for a lone drunken tosspot homophobe who wandered in and was swiftly and handily dealt with. Lovely little boozer!

Jason and John always know how to throw a party. They get the perfect vibe going every time, The bar and door staff are always friendly. The food portions are huge and delicious and at a very reasonable price. And when the weather is warmer, they hold a party in the courtyard every weekend. Absolutely fantastic location.

I was treating a friend to an overnight stay near Chester with the first day being spent on a shopping spree in the city, something that was long overdue thanks to the covid lockdown. I tried to find somewhere a little different for us to eat that lunchtime as the restaurant we would normally use had sadly closed permanently. We found this a rather unusual place and opted for the tapas style small plates. With hindsight, we should have ordered less than we did as the portions were larger than expected. The decor was a little odd and not particularly to my taste. The service was fairly attentive without being over the top and as far as we could tell, all covid guidelines were followed.

Oh how a place can change was a regular visitor here but been away for a while on work commitments visited today and sat for 20mins at a table full of dirty glasses as did other people had to ask in the end for table to be cleared staff were very reluctant in fact boading on rude bar service was equally poor with staff preferring to chat to each other rather than serve sadly won't be going again

Popular bar, I enjoyed my whiskey and holy water , the DJ was banging out the tunes why only issue is people were vaping inside and the bouncers did nothing

Lovely cosy little pub.Happy welcoming staff.We ate off the small menu and was just enough.We didn’t feel rushed lovely afternoon had by all .

Would definitely recommend afternoon tea. Lovely surroundings. Staff very helpful especially Joe - nothing was too much trouble. Very relaxed afternoon. No-one felt rushed. Will definitely visit again

We called in as we always do when in Chester. This was Sunday last weekend. We sat at a table where you can see the food under hot lamps. We watched a burger in bun, chips waiting to be delivered to a table. Numerous staff ignored it being there even the manager, ignored it too. It remained there for at least twenty minutes eventually the manager checked the food screen had discussions with some staff and what we saw next horrified us especially when two trained chefs were with us. The manager who had been collecting bottles, glasses from tables took off the top of the burger bun put his hands on top of the burger and chips with no gloves and dirty contaminated hands to check the warmth of the burger and chips. He then went on to scrape the chips off into a bin, got new chips on the plate and took the food out to a customer. It took all our strength to not interfere, we felt sorry for the customer. We will never eat here again, and just to say he knew we were watching and he still continued with this poor practice. He does not portray good practice so why should his team members.

Everytime I go in here I become very aware of a stagnant smell. So as nice this place may be I find the stench too much. I certainly couldn't eat here. Which is all a shame as the menu looked interesting. Cocktail menu looked great too. And there seems to be things going on here. But I couldn't get past the smell.
