We came here for afternoon tea, and it was a very impressive afternoon tea. There was an excellent selection of finger sandwiches, sausages (unusual, but welcome), two good-sized scones each, and five different cakes/sweet treats each. The scones came with pots of butter, jam, and cream to share. Everything was exceptionally fresh, and this is up there as one of the nicest afternoon teas I’ve ever had, although it was also one of the most expensive. It was quite a sunny afternoon, so the place was hot, and we were told that we were welcome to open a balcony door if we wanted to. The massive windows give an excellent view over the race course and the Grosvenor Bridge area, but there didn’t seem to be any blinds to reduce the glare of the sun, and that was tricky at times. The staff were very polite and friendly, and there was generally a good atmosphere. Happy to recommend.

Excellent friendly service. Had the Steak deal for two. We went early on a Saturday tea time so it was quiet. Lovely views and steak was cooked to perfection! Sticky toffee pudding was as we both said one of the best we’ve had in a long while. We will certainly visit again. Thanks.

Heard great things about this place but unfortunately it just didn’t hit the mark. Meals all came out at different times. Halfway through some of the plates coming out we were informed that the fish cakes weren’t available and we were offered alternatives. Fish cakes were still left on the bill and had to ask for these to be removed. We were compensated with having a bottle discounted off the finial bill.

First time visit for us and a bit more upmarket to where we would normally eat ,lovely views ,would be even nicer if the weather ever picked up ,food of a decent quality, service was excellent and for 7 small plates and two cocktails for seventy quid I thought it wasn't overpriced, baked haddock souffle was probably my favourite but each dish tasted fine would have liked some sweet chillie sauce with our halloumi fries but that's just my preference and I,m sure if I,d have asked I,d have got some but for a treat or special occasion you could do worse than pay the Abode a visit.

We used to dine here many years ago for special occasions. We thought we would book a table and come and have a lovely experience for our 20th anniversary. We arrived excited and exited the lift. Not a single member of staff was there ! We waited 10 mins and then a lovely member of staff came through. She had only worked there 2 weeks, so this wasn't her fault, but we asked to be seated. She said to sit anywhere , so we did. There were 1 party of guests there having drinks, but otherwise the whole restaurant was dead. This was a friday evening at 7pm !!! We ordered a drink each. The lady told us that the draft beer wasn't working, so I settled for a bottled beer. The lady brought it over opened and said that she was sorry but the beers were still warm. I reluctantly took the beer as she had opened it and began to drink it. No other staff arrived and this poor lady was looking like she didn't know what to do. If it wasn't for her, we wouldn't have even had a drink. We decided that the place was horrendous and that we would not be eating there. We were worried what service we would get, if any. We had managed to walk into a hotel, up to a restaurant, up to the counter and wait 10 mins before seeing 1 person, and even then we had to ask for what we required. This is truly awful. This restaurant used to be one of the best in chester. I would say that it is now one of the worst. No wonder it was dead. We ended up eating in the miller and Carter restaurant next door. Not quite what we wanted for our special meal, but the food and service in there was incredible 🙌. The hotel could learn a lot from the way that the miller and Carter was being run. Big changes needed I'm afraid

There is literally nothing bad about this amazing restaurant. The staff, the food, the atmosphere... it was all great! Visiting from the US and I can honestly say, this place was definitely a great place to visit and dine at. Our server, Lottie was absolutely amazing! She took care of every need with a gorgeous smile. The Chicken with Diane sauce was magnificent and well prepared! And dessert, the Creme Brûlée and Baked Alaska were both phenomenal. My only regret is that I didn’t book at this hotel! No matter where you visit from, this place is a must eat in Chester! Definitely gonna visit again and come here. Thank you for the great service!

What a fab setting this place is stylish and great views over Chester. Lotty our waitress for the night was friendly and great with our daughter and she looked after us well. The food however was disappointing we ordered the nibbles to start with smoked almonds and the breads no complaints. Then my starter arrived smoked haddock fish cakes with a tomato salad and lemon olive oil. What I received was one dry fish cake and an undressed tomato salad for £9. Our mains arrived my wife’s fish pie was severely lacking moisture and I had the braised beef which was luke warm and had to be returned for re heating. Lotty dealt with this well and knocked the meal off the bill. We ordered some drinks a Roku gin but was given a Beefeater. The braised beef is very delicious though and the mash was sublime. Overall slightly disappointing with errors made in a fairly empty setting.

Booked on the recommendation of a friend. After being seated at a table by the window with lovely views, we waited 15mins before being asked if we'd like a drink or to view a menu. I think we'd been forgotten about which only came to notice when another couple were brought to the adjacent table. We were then all dealt with as if we'd arrived together. They didn't have the 15min wait. We ordered bread as a starter but the neighbouring table were offered theirs for free. Starter was fine as was my main, the braised beef. Partners ribeye was not hot and so was returned. Replacement was hot but full of fat and gristle, had it been £8 on steak night in the local pub then maybe you'd not complain but £28 in a top rate hotel restaurant is not acceptable. The dissatisfaction of the replacement was mentioned and so was removed from the bill. We completed the comments card brought with our bill. We wanted to hand it in person to a member of staff and not just leave it on the table, however there was nobody in the restaurant or bar. We waited a couple of mins when we spotted a waitress so handed it to her, making a note of her name. We were bitterly disappointed with the overall experience as we'd really been looking forward to it since booking it a few days earlier. We will not return here nor recommend to various friends who often visit Chester as we do.

Because of how nice and relaxed it was we opted to add on an extra night which we didn't regret. Room was lovely and clean and the bed was super comfy. We received the breakfast hamper on both mornings which we couldn't fault, there was plenty in there for us both to enjoy. It is in a perfect location to access all that Chester has to offer. All in all we absolutly loved staying at the Abode in Chester.

The food was out of this world and the staff can't do enough for you. Drinks in the bar are a little overpriced but it's what to expect in a lovely hotel like this. Took my eighty two year old mum for afternoon tea as a belated Xmas present. What a big mistake!! We were served the most cheap poor quality food I’ve ever seen in my life . It consisted of two greasy cocktail sausages in a small frying pan , two black pudding balls , Scones served with watery cheap tasting jam and a measly teaspoon of cream . Two ugly slices of fried bread dripping in oil covered in fried onions and Italian ham . Four tiny fingers of white stale bread which we couldn’t distinguish what the filling was because it was invisible!! , as for the cakes well words fail me ! Four tiny inch square stale sponge with a blob of cream on top . We took a small bite from one or two things but found the whole thing just disgusting!!! So decided to just leave and go elsewhere!! We did complain to the assistant manager he said he was sorry that it wasn’t to our liking and offered for us to go back . But that’s not what we wanted ... the experience was ruined and it should be right the first time . My mum and I have been on numerous afternoon teas and have always enjoyed the experience. They’ve always been what they are supposed to be a little bit of luxuary . Not like this one which was just leftovers from the breakfast buffet !!!

Service was great and that's where it stopped!!! Food was awful. Had scallops for starter. So bland. No sauce apart from the water from the unstrained yellow Savoy cabbage that had been boiled for 2 hours. Steak for main. Ordered medium rare. It was blue and full of sinew. Inedible. The red wine jus was bisto granules with water with the texture of treacle. Never going back there again. Shame. Used to be very good!!

Went for afternoon tea recently, and it was the worst I have ever attended. The sandwiches were just dumped on the plate and hardly had any filling in them. There was only a few made with brown bread which had very little plastic tasting cheese on with some kind of cheap pickle. We asked if we there was any egg sandwiches, good enough they made some for us but sadly it was mixed with salad cream and the runny tasteless mixture was pouring on to the plate. The tea was very weak and you had to ask for it as they didn’t come round very often with it. Alcoholic drinks VERY expensive. Staff on the whole where ok. Definitely would not recommend.

We were seated on the top floor overlooking Chester, the view was stunning and the venue very impressive. The staff were friendly and attentive. We had afternoon tea between two of us and were pleasantly surprised by the hot elements of sausages and fish cakes, these were delicious. The finger sandwiches were very pleasant and the selection of desserts were wonderful. There were 2 types of scones, plain and fruited which were ok but not as fresh as we had hoped, slightly dry and perhaps not made fresh that day which was a little disappointing though the accompanying jam, butter and cream was lovely. We would have hoped for loose tea rather than a tea bag, I think for the price a tea bag is a bit of a let down and most places, even small cheaper tea rooms will offer loose tea. There must have been some live music planned for later on as the band were setting up as we ate, this was ok at first but they soon started to test sound and we knew it was time for us to go, such a shame our tranquil afternoon tea in such a pleasant setting had to end too soon, we had hoped for another round of coffee to end with. I think it would have been best to let us know the band was going to be setting up/making noise so that we could have perhaps planned to come at a different time. Overall very pleasant and the staff tried their best but this place has so much more potential to be outstanding with a few tweaks

I booked this meal for five people, several months before the 5.11.19 as a celebration meal after our son graduated. Whilst I have no criticism of the food and service in the main I was disappointed to find that having been taken immediately to a table in the back of the restaurant behind a seemingly full central area..the restaurant was suddenly shushed and a man began speaking. It dawned on us that we were in the middle of a wine tasting evening which continued for the duration. I am sorry but no one mentioned this at any point and I would have gone elsewhere if I had known. We had no desire to be shushed as we were chatting and drinking etc so I guess we caused irritation to the group although noone complained & I was in no mood to actually care! It was such a shame ..no background music playing etc no ambience.. so as a restaurant it was a lacklustre experience i'm sorry to say.The food and presentation was good so I feel the running of the restaurant is letting the chef & FOH staff down by this lack of thought when booking and handling customers. We didn't feel special at all on what was a very special day.

We were recommended by friends to the Sunday lunch, so as we hadn’t eaten here before decided to give it a try, unfortunately it wasn’t a good experience, the restaurant was very quiet, there was no atmosphere and the waitress kept telling us there was a problem with the music or lack of music, so that probably made it more apparent.

After visiting the hotel twice before, we have eaten and stayed and had a lovely experiences here. This time we would have say we would NEVER COME BACK!. We were embarrassed as we had brought our friends with us and wanted it to be a lovely evening out for us all. Instead it felt like a canteen, the staff were badly trained, our table wasn't cleared between courses, there was no salt in the salt shaker. The food wasn't great, the starter I was given was on burnt soda bread, the starter for our friend was sent back as the sauce was so bitter. Our main course was brought out whilst I was in the bathroom, so for me the food was cold. We did plan on dessert but to be honest, we all just wanted to leave. Oh, did I mention when we arrived there was a woman peeing in the door way, we should have realised then, the Abode has lost its finesse.

My sister in law and I had a fantastic night at one of the Abodes wine events on Tuesday. This one was wines from unusual regions and how interesting it was, the speaker was so informative and each wine was paired with a dish that matched it. Like a sauvignon blanc from India with a light curry and an amazing rose from Essex.

A second visit to the Abode Brasserie and another excellent meal complemented by attentive service. We sat on the balcony taking in the views of Chester and the racecourse whilst we drank our Mojitos. The main event was the lobster and steak special, delicious!

Never have a bad meal here. The views are special and there is always to much choice, I could have had at least 4 different starters.

Having eaten here a few times now, I have noticed that at quieter times of the week, there is a huge dip in the quality of service. On my most recent trip, on a quiet Monday evening, I have to say it was incredibly average. One of the things I found charming about the Abode was in the past upon arrival, the host would ask if you'd like to sit in the lounge area and have a drink before going through to the table. Unfortunately this time, there was no one around and instead a waitress came over, took us straight through (which isn't a problem, but it wasn't quite as nice) she gave us two food menus forgot the drinks menu, and the night carried on like that.

We had a lovely table in the window overlooking the racecourse. We all chose from the 'early fixed price menu' which came with a glass of champagne. The meal, service and ambience were all great. Would definitely recommend and will certainly make a repeat visit.

There was a wedding on that meant we had to eat downstairs (shame as view is great). The food was quite tasty and well presented however the service was very slow, inattentive and disorganised. There were at least 5 staff as it was a Saturday and only a few tables eating but the bread/butter turned up after 20 mins as the mains arrived. Shame really as I did look forward to eating there.

We stay here quite regularly in the suites on sixth floor and the rooms are beautiful with great balcony worth the extra money. Restaurant is still not up to standard for hotel rateings it's a bit hit and miss. There was a band playing on night we were there and they were very very good but have to say a bit loud when dining out.

Arrived and shown to our table. The waiter (Milo) was very attentive and helpful. Drinks were ordered and brought to table whilst we perused the menu. Starters looked lovely however we felt we only wanted 2 courses so saved ourselves for pudding. Steak and trimmings for one, butternut squash spicy dish for another and smoked haddock risotto for me. All meals were beauty presented and thoroughly enjoyed. 2 sticky toffee puddings finished us off. The venue and views over Chester were brilliant. Definitely planning a future visit. Would recommend a visit. Price for 3 including wine by the glass and coffees was £94.

I had arranged afternoon tea at the Brasserie Abode to show off the views of Chester for my aunts who had all travelled in in preparation for my wedding at the end of the month. I booked afternoon tea in March for the August and was told to call up a week before the booking to confirm. I did that but then they could not find my booking! Apparently it had been booked onto the 'lunch' system rather than 'afternoon tea' system.

Visited this wetherspoons yesterday morning whilst visiting Chester, we ordered our food which took a little while to come, I started eating my eggs benidict and it wasn't very hot.. I told a staff member and he took the food away and after about 10 mins with me asking again where my food was, he then got someone to bring the food back.. They had put it into a microwave and blisted the food...not giving me a fresh portion... I'm afraid this place is awful, and won't be visiting again...
