Lovely staff who are very helpful. My room was nice but wrongly positioned, as I had noise from the street and I was near a swinging door which people would slam open then slam shut. No hot water in the shower.

There were 6 of us for Christmas lunch, we paid £60 a head which isn’t cheap, all of the other tables had white linen napkins, our table for some reason had cheap red paper napkins! The starter I had was just awful, a dry pastry tart shell with no moisture! The main was adequate, the desert nothing to write home about! We’ve been here so many times but I won’t be rushing back!

I & my partner stayed at The Old Hall Frodsham overnight on Tuesday 10th December 2019 as part of a large party and the evening was most enjoyable with attentive and friendly staff which made for a most enjoyable evening, however the room despite being a modern addition was poorly lit made worse by several light bulbs being out of order and none too clean. We have NEVER encountered a breakfast with no cereals available and consider this to be a failing of the very basic type. Upon checkout we gave our feedback and were told that the hotel was badly understaffed and the employees simply did not have time to do the necessary work. It was also mentioned that a £1m renovation was due early next year (2020) We commented that it wouldn’t have taken much for this review to be a couple of stars higher - I.e a few extra light bulbs in our bedroom and breakfast cereal to be available. I note that none of the reviews are responded to and this obviously means that there is an indifferent ethos within your organisation. If reviews are actually read, they are ignored. If I was involved in an organisation such as yours, I would want to receive and respond to critical reviews. Won’t be returning.

My wife and I rarely get the opportunity to go out alone, on one of the rare occasions that we were able to have a "Date Night" we booked in to The Old Hall. We arrived at 20:00, are table wasn't booked till 20:30 so we sat in the bar area and had a glass of wine, we then were shown to our table and drinks and food orders were taken relavitely quickly. We waited a bit for starters which when they arrived were a bit uninspiring. I ordered Devilled Whitebait, my thinking would be that they would be in some spicy batter, but when arrived they were just normal fried Whitebait. My wife ordered Smoked Salmon, Poached Egg and Avocado. The poached egg the yolk was solid and not runny and the avocado was just half an avocado, placed on the plate. However the portions were of generous size. This is when things started taking a nose dive. We had finished our starter at about 21:00 and then started to notice that we had not seen any staff for a while, other tables started noticing this also and some groups went to find out what the issues were as people had received starters and nothing else. The consensus was that the kitchen was very busy, the seating area we were in was holding around 15 people which I would not see as a lot of covers for a professional chef, we accepted this explanation at first but then at around 21:45 people were getting up and leaving without having their main. We decided to hang on a bit longer and got chatting to a group of 6 ladies who had just finished their desserts, they informed us that they came in at 18:50 and ordered a main and pudding each and they had only just finished 3 hours later! At 22:00, an hour and a half after we sat down for our meal we still had no mains so decided to call it a day and pay for the starter and wine we had. At the desk was a young girl who was visibly upset and was very apologetic about the evening, we explained that obviously issues were within the kitchen and not her fault but it appeared she was left to face the front line on her own. So we left, hungry and very disappointed.

Arrived here for a one night stay with family. Good first impressions and friendly staff but rooms were very outdated and incredibly hot if you don't open windows! One of our parties room didn't lock so they moved him to another which was great however they still put another party into the room with a door that didn't lock. Slept relatively well aside from the heat and outdated decor would have probably given an extra star if breakfast made up for it - it didn't. Took 45 minutes for 4 of us to get breakfast and took 55 minutes for one of our party to receive theirs, only for it to be wrong and have to be sent back and returned still not correct. The staff werent very apologetic and speaking loudly to other guests about how bad it is to work there and the taste of the breakfast was not enough to make up for the extensive wait. I wouldn't come back here again, and unfortunately I wouldn't recommend it.

This review is based purely on my visit to the restaurant. I have dined at the old hall off and on for numerous years, and have never been disappointed until my latest visit last night. What a fall from grace. I had what was described as cheese and onion pie but turned out to be a pie with lots of diced potatoes in what I think was a cheese sauce. It came with garden peas and gravy ( as described ) priced at £9.95. For that price I naturally assumed this came with chips. How wrong was I. My sister in law ordered pea and ham soup as a starter - this came cold so she sent it back. When it finally came again it was at best warm. Out of sheer embarrassment she couldn't send it back again. Drinks and meals are very overpriced for what you now get. It has recently changed hands and now describes itself as a pub with rooms. They should in my opinion visit a few pubs and look at what those pubs provide with their meals in comparison to what they charge.

Always been good, but really let themselves down for our Christmas meal. We were rushed in, didn't get the table we wanted- too busy serving a large and extremely noisy celebration party elsewhere. No bread with meal, orders slow and then tried to overcharge us for drinks we hadn't ordered. Always been for pre Xmas festivities, but not anymore. Really annoying as we have been regulars for over 26 years..

Made a reservation for Saturday evening. We were a little concerned walking into the Old Hall as we couldn’t find anyone to let them know we had arrived and there was a huge queue at the bar (looks as though there was a wedding). We sat ourselves down and a neighbouring table told us where we could find the Menus. Sometime later a waiter arrived to serve the other table and we spoke to him. From this point on, the service was impeccable, our order taken, drinks arrived quickly, waiting on staff very attentive and the food absolutely beautiful. We really enjoyed it and will certainly be back!

I advise not to go here or any of the company’s restaurants as your money goes straight to the big bosses and can’t pay their hard working staff, still not been paid and it’s not fair! Guests need to know this as nothing will ever be done once you complain about where your pay is they simply just replace you and your past history chasing your hard working money and can’t afford to pay bills

Booked a family meal for 9 on a Saturday evening. Excellent lounge area to sit in with fire ... separate (small) bar area. Arrived and sitting in lounge whilst ordering drinks at the bar when all called through to table ... to sit and look at menus! Table was set up for 9 but only had 8 places with cutlery, and with no wine glasses etc. Menu and wine list written in a quirky style but no-one, even the waiting staff, knew what one starter actually was, although they did go and find out. ( It was a baked cheese) Starters were fine, main meals good, although one arrived late, desserts OK, tea and coffee good. Young waiting staff enthusiastic and try to be helpful but really need much better training and guidance from above; menu given and order taken in lounge; asked to table when starters ready to be served; table fully set etc. It was these little details that let the experience down and they are an easy fix.

It is rather difficult for me to review a hotel where I have been a returning guest for twenty years especially as it has new owners. My parents live locally so it is in the best location for my holiday visits. We arrived on boxing day. We were due to meet my parents for lunch at 2pm in the bar for lunch. My partner and I had not eaten as we were looking forward to the late lunch after travelling from mid Wales that morning We ate at 4pmThis upset my dad which upset my mum. Not the best start to a two night break Room prices have been lowered but the extras I always enjoyed have been stripped back. Breakfast buffet and bathroom complimentary bits gone Even bin liners in the rooms. One waitress walked past us crying at breakfast. The staff in general seemed to have no direction nor leadership I understand that the festive season is a difficult time for anyone to purchase a going concern and I'm certain that the new owners will address the issues being raised as the old hall is a little bit of history with amazing potential These issues will not deter me visiting again as I will look forward to seeing the results

Staff uninterested, room ok, pillows uncomfortable, water red hot when it eventually came through. We were not told about the front door being locked in the eve, nor about the front door key being on the same keyring as the room key. We found ourselves locked out at 10.30pm and tried to use both keys, however neither unlocked the door, we tried buzzing and knocking on the door to no avail. We then phoned the hotel whilst looking through the window and to our surprise saw a male running downstairs in his underpants! He answered the phone and we were told to wait 5 mins. He went upstairs and returned to unlock the door from the inside. We received a 'sorry but no explanation, very strange! Faulty Towers sprang to mind. On the day of departure no one asked if we enjoyed our stay, uttered seasonal greetings or said have a good journey, when we mentioned about the front door key not working the receptionist said she would look later. Would I spend £200+ to stay there again? I think not!

We chose The Old Hall as the venue for a family lunch with grandparents travelling a fair distance to attend. We chose it as we'd had previous wonderful experiences as both restaurant and hotel guests. We were so let down on this occasion. We sat with menus in the bar area for over an hour without being offered a drink or any food order taken. There was no fire lit in what could have been a really lovely festive room- it was Christmas Eve and you'd think some effort into atmosphere would have been planned. On 3 separate occasions we went to find staff to remind them that we were there and each time we were offered more menus and that staff would be with us in a minute. Our table was booked for 1.30 and at 2.35 we sat down. Finally offered drinks and guessed at what was available as in all the time we'd been there, we weren't given a drinks menu. The main courses were ok but the music went off and as we were the only guests in the restaurant it felt slightly uncomfortable. I asked to speak to the manager and explained my disappointment at the delays and lack of atmosphere of music. She tried to say we hadn't let them know we'd arrived despite her being the person that gave us our second lot of menus! Desserts were poor, an Irish cream cheese and without any flavour of Irish cream and a bit of cheap peppermint ice cream on the side. We ran out of time for tea or coffee. Without asking we were given 25% off the bill which was a fair offer. Such a shame that it was so disappointing on a festive family get together.

Having dined at the Old Hall on many occasions over the past 30 years including wedding reception, my husband and I decided to treat ourselves to a pre-christmas meal. Fortunately on our own. We were so disappointed and very relieved that we had not booked for Boxing Day as we have so often done in the past. My husband and I both selected from the Christmas menu - salmon starter was acceptable, twice baked soufflé a disappointment, tasteless although light. My husband selected the christmas dinner a huge mistake everything including gravy came piled on a plate, although I have no evidence except a very hot plate I would guess it had been microwave reminded me of school dinners. I had beef which was tasty if rather dry, but the huge wedge of mashed potato on top and the red cabbage underneath rather spoilt the appeal. Neither of us could face a dessert so had a coffee with a mini mince pie personally the best part of the meal. If you have been before please beware that the Old Hall has recently been sold I just wish I'd read trip advisor before we went we will not be returning. Such a loss to the village.

Sadly echoing some of the more recent reviews. A family pre-Christmas get together for lunch in a very boring setting. The tables are no longer laid out with tablecloths and crackers and little effort has been put into creating a festive atmosphere. The food is served plated up at the table. Wine is poured without being offered to taste. The food was okay(ish), but nowhere near as good as in previous years. If you like Weatherspoon’s you will like the Old Hall restaurant. It is no longer for me though.

Came here for a Christmas Meal with Friends on a saturday evening, we had booked well in advance and as there were only 5 of us you would expect things to be ok. It all started off on a bad footing as we were informed that there was no till behind the bar so a tab was required (no big deal) a lady took my order of a largwe white wine and a pint.... we waited and waited, drinks did not arrive so another friend went to the bar and ordered them this time waiting for the drinks. we where shown to our table which was too small as trying to fit 5 people on a table for 4, this was sorted after our objection by pushing another table over. We placed our orders and then we were told that we could not have our starters until another party was served their mains (thought this was odd but we said ok) An HOUR passed when we eventually got our starters, dont forget we had booked well in advance! we had to point out that two drinks were not given to us on arrival and to ensure they were not on our tab, the rest of the meal was ok but the service was soooo slow| when we eventually finished and got our bill we had been charged for two white wines that we had never even ordered a total of £15.50 extra, again pointed this out and it was eventually taken off the bill, but yes again took ages to sort out.

Generally we like the hotel and the fact it is a bit old fashioned is to our taste. A couple of tweaks would improve things, a hook on the bathroom door to hang clothes on and a full length mirror somewhere in the room. Air let out the top of radiator in our room, but for me the most important would be a mattress topper to soften the feel of the very very hard/firm mattress. Very clean, bathroom a good size.

We went there for dinner twice since it was a good choice in the vicinity. you'll wait for your table at the bar while you can look at the menu and order, so once your table is ready, food is on its way. For S.Valentine, a red rose was on the table, very nice thought! In two dinners, we took steak (requested as pink, but a little too overcooked), soup, pudding (very big portion), cheesecake and a dish of cheese, everything very good. If you order the bread, it will come so nicely warm. lovely personnel. medium average without wine is 25-30£ each

Soup was nice, and I chose Roast Pork as a main. The pork was ok - nothing special - and a bit tough in places. The main was rather unbalanced really - enough meat (just) but 4 roast potatoes, 3 new potatoes, 3 (RAW!) green beans, 3 slices of courgette and 3 tiny whole carrots with some apple sauce and gravy. When a roast says accompanied by seasonal veg, I expect more than that (and green beans that are cooked). If someone had bothered to ask me if everything was alright with my meal I would have fed back there and then. But the plate was taken away with "have you finished?" - nothing more. I chose cheese and biscuits for dessert. The cheese was obviously straight out the fridge so lacked flavour. The board was wet (from washed grapes I assume) which meant the bottom biscuit was very soggy. Not sure it was worth £26, and if I'd been staying another night, I certainly would have gone out to eat elsewhere. Breakfast wasn't anything special either to be fair.

Lovely old hotel, friendly staff, comfortable, clean room and a great breakfast. Only gripe, tv had no reception and it wasn't that cheap.

Ideally situated with some lovely old features on the high street. The place is tired and in need of a revamp. It has lots of potential. The food and setting was acceptable and comfortable. The staff were mixed. Would love to see it revitalised.

Very very disappointed with this place ..was looking forward to staying here as reputation is very good but it fell well short....Night bar staff was a great guy ....very funny and excellent host ....breakfast staff was more interested in what they were doing later than about the service....breakfast was very average....won't be staying again in a hurry ....sorry !!!

Treated my mum to afternoon tea here. It was a little confusing as to where to go on arrival and the parking was poor. However we really enjoyed our afternoon tea:)

Christmas meal with girls from work. There were 12 of us all together and we had ordered our meals before going. I had soup which was vegetable and was very flavoursome. Followed by roast turkey dinner. When it can the portions were very generous and the meal looked lovely. Veg came in a separate dish( parsnip, sprouts and carrots) as I only like carrots I asked could I just have carrots and that's what I got. The whole meal was excellent and nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

Can't wait for food to be on offer as I'm sure it'll be just as brilliant as what the Pub Sisters have done so far. Clean and warm, great atmosphere, brilliant music and a fantastic pint 👍

Visited this wetherspoons yesterday morning whilst visiting Chester, we ordered our food which took a little while to come, I started eating my eggs benidict and it wasn't very hot.. I told a staff member and he took the food away and after about 10 mins with me asking again where my food was, he then got someone to bring the food back.. They had put it into a microwave and blisted the food...not giving me a fresh portion... I'm afraid this place is awful, and won't be visiting again...
