Had Sunday lunch,it was excellent. Thick slices of beef,well cooked veg and a very tasty cauliflower cheese. Return visit 1st of Feb,I had teriyaki chicken with noodles,a very good meal and good service. Called in today, 5th of Apr, we both had the beef in red wine sauce, mash and fresh vegetables, meat was lovely and tender,mash and veg cooked just right.

Nice food, cheesey chips a must ! Friendly staff and lovely beer garden with nice views.

The food was absolutely delicious I had a prawn cocktail starter and salmon main if I wasn't on canal holiday I would definitely come back

Found this pub today. We have a boat going back to anderton marina tomorrow. Moored up here. Food absolutely amazing. Small menu with everything made from scratch cannot recommend it enough

We visited the Anderton Boat Lift on a sunny Saturday morning (22 Feb) and discovered this gem of a pub just a short stroll across the bridge. We hadn't booked which is always a risk and we hadn't looked at reviews before arriving. We were greeted with a warm smile and asked to choose a seat and they would bring the menus and drinks we just ordered over. We had a table with a view of the large beer garden. Plenty of outdoor seating including some huts with bench seating. Extensive menu choices, light bites, specials and kids menu. We were advised of the soup of the day when handed our menus and any availability issues (one dish). Easy access with a pram & high chairs available. Staff were really friendly, helpful and special shout out to Molly who our five year old took a shine to because she had a name badge and he was practicing his reading. As somewhere we never planned to go, it's taught us to be more adventurous - thoroughly enjoyed our meal which was all cooked fresh and with love. Also, great pricing! Highly recommend the salt & pepper chips!!! Lovely canal side pub and we'll definitely be back! Thanks

Just of the main road, but a perfect 'village style pub with great staff, food and atmosphere. Recommend coming here to try and chill.

We turned up here on Tuesday for lunch, along with everyone else it seems haha. There were only 2 staff on and they were brilliant. They explained that there maybe a little wait for food, but it was worth it. Great spot with a big beer garden, this will be great in the warmer months. Thanks for the great service and great food.

Great little village pub, handy for refreshments after local walks around Marbury and Anderton. Friendly staff , great food choices. Dog friendly.

From the moment we arrived, the place just "felt right" if you know what I mean! The service couldnt have been better and the food amazing! I had the Chilly Beef with noodles - it came with udon noodles, which I normally dont like, but I couldnt have been more wrong - it was absolutely delicious! My wife had the Braised Lambs Liver which was also gorgeous! For desserts we had Panna Cotta and Strawberry Cheesecake - both really good too! We will definately be back! Cheers Stanley Arms!

Lovely and pleasant staff and top quality food.

Decided to try this pub for lunch and not disappointed, my wife had braised steak and onions & I had steak and ale pie, both meals came piping hot and full of flavour. Our waitress, Molly. gave us great service. Nice to find a cosy, warming atmosphere pub at a reasonably priced. We will be back.

Dog friendly pub with really good food and welcoming atmosphere. Popular with canal boaters but we locals haven't been for a while and the food and service is really good.

This is the third weekend we have come to the Stanley Arms to eat. Great freshly cooked pub grub. Staff and service is excellent, attentive and friendly. Can recommend the fish and chips and the steak and ale pie is the best I’ve had. Big slice stuffed full of steak. You won’t be disappointed if you eat here.

Had a family birthday meal. The food was REALLY excellent, as always. It was also served so quickly.The staff were really efficient and very friendly. Beautiful meal , great service and lovely location. Pub garden looks very inviting ! Many thanks. We enjoyed our lunch very much! Went back a few weeks later and had the ciabatta with steak and onions- very nice. Oct 24- returned after the refurbishment. The interior and exterior look marvellous! Had baked potato with chicken curry, friend had baked potato with prawns and cocktail sauce- both with salad and coleslaw. Very good, delicious and good value for money. Staff are always cheery- obviously a very well run establishment. Look forward to trying something else next time. What a great pub/eaterie for Northwich! TU

Friendly pub with warm cosy atmosphere. Called in for a pint and dinner after a long day in the canal. They were busy and many tables reserved but the staff were so friendly and made sure they could accommodate us. Steak pie was delish and so was the mushroom stroganoff.

Amazing steak and ale pie which my wife and I enjoyed immensely. Staff were lovely enjoyed some banter with them nothing seemed to be to much trouble. Highly recommend

I used it on a narrow boat trip. This is a pub with a stylish atmosphere. The local beer was also delicious.

wow, how do i start, we booked the pub for our sons wedding. Mo the landlady and her staff where fantastic through out the whole process. we where allowed to set up the majority on the day before. nothing was too much for them. the venue was outstanding, the staff once again amazing. thank you Mo and all your staff.

The tip is an old haunt from my best why can I just called in for old time sake have a quick drink always like this pub is that a bit of character of course is right next to the anderton boat lift it does good food at a reasonable price has excellent service with friendly staff must pop in again sometime soon

Cannot fault the service and food we received when bringing family for Sunday lunch. We were on our narrowboat on the canal and were going on the boat lift and our 2 sisters came to meet us. The beef Sunday dinner was fabulous, one sister and I couldn't believe how tender the beef was and the veg was fresh and so well cooked. The other sister and my husband had the braised steak, mash and veg. .again couldn't speak highly enough. The staff were so helpful and attentive and the drinks were certainly not overpriced. Highly recommend and certainly coming from 2 sisters who are familiar with eating out it was praise indeed.

After reading all the great reviews we thought it would be a lovely place to stop into for dinner with our two daughters (8 and 10) on the way home. The pub itself is nicely situated right next to the canal and has a huge outdoor garden with seating and tables. There is a good range of beer and wine etc and inside it has a very cosy, old school, kind of appeal. The menu looked good, although the kids menu is small and lacking any kind of thought. It's basically burgers and chips, chicken nuggets and chips etc. If you look at the pictures I say again, the food looks fantastic, in reality it was nothing like that. The burger was tasteless with a bun bordering on stale, the scampi was not fresh (as you would expect from the prices) but was watery, tasteless and obviously made from frozen. The chicken strips were again bland, soft and obviously pre-frozen. The steak pie, although packed full of meat, was not fresh but was fortunately full of flavour. This might sound ridiculous but there was no lemon with the scampi and no tartar sauce provided. At this price point you don't need to look much further to find better food not too far away. Such a shame because it is a lovely pub.

Just passing through on a boat. Had myself a dinner and a beer. The meal was excellent, piping hot and cooked to perfection. The waiting staff were very friendly. Professional and helpful. When the meal arrived although there was condiments on the table. I was also asked if I needed anything else. Bar staff were very helpful and welcoming. Service with a smile. There is an ample sized beer garden with a large grassed area to cater for all members of a family including the dogs. Plus a fenced section of the beer garden overlooks the canal so you can have drink and watch the boats float on by. Overall a great visit which made me feel welcome and comfortable. Thank you all at the Stanley Arms. 👍

Nice dog friendly pub with a garden by canal. Does lunch food,service times are on website cant be relied upon , Ive turned up several times after 2 but before 3 and had a nice lunch...today no food at 1440 :(

We celebrated our Golden Wedding Anniversary here with family and friends on 25th May. We had the whole pub to our selves. 50 plus people. Landlady and staff were really obliging, let us put decorations up etc. Food and service really good.

Food very good, friendly staff and dog friendly as well as being reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend. Guinness very good. Cooked to order, waited a little while for food but worth it.

I absolutely love this pub. The food is always exceptional, the beer is always great and the staff are fabulous. If you're in the area, or are planning to be in the area, you must visit. Be aware though that you might have to book a table as it is always busy. Enjoy.

Excellent pub for lunch if you are visiting the Anderton Boat Lift. Weather was really warm so we sat out in the garden, really pleasant way to spend an hour or so . Food very good and value for money. Excellent service, the waitress was polite and efficient with the food arriving very quickly after we ordered. Good range of beers and ciders too.

Didn't have food but what I saw looked and smelled lovely. They keep a good pint, lovely pub with massive gardens right next to the canal. Atmosphere was great, very relaxed. Facilities clean, staff friendly, we will be back when we are in the area again

Following my experience of this establishment I am surprised to see largely positive reviews. We went for lunch after a walk and made 2 transactions - one for drinks when we entered and another before we left for food. I was therefore surprised to see 3 transactions on my credit card bill. Two of these were for virtually the same amount (£5.45 and £5.65). After we paid for the drinks and sat down a young female employee came over and asked us to pay. When we said we had already paid she then said the transaction hadn't gone through but offered no evidence to support that. Like a mug I duly paid again not realising at the time that the amounts differed slightly which makes me wonder if she had even come to the right person. No matter as it was only approx. a fiver and mistakes happen but I rang the pub to let them know - maybe some additional training is required. I spoke to somebody who said that he would get the landlady to ring me and took my details. It has now been 4 days and needless to say I have not received a phone call. I would probably have just told them to put the fiver in a charity box anyway as it is a 40 mile round trip for us but a response was required. On top of that the chips served to our group were awful - burnt and soggy and the mash was lumpy. Will definitely not be going back

Visited as part of a large group. Good range of drinks and food, the food was decent but the fries over cooked and brittle. A couple with a dog had planned to join for lunch, the pub states dog friendly but on arrival they couldn’t bring the dog into the room where the main group were.

It says dog friendly,its not really thats only if you want to sit in the tap room.I had recommended this as a convienient place to eat for a friend organsing a trip on the boat lift as part of her special birthday celebration weekend for her 16 guests from all over the UK and beyond so we couldn't join them because we had a little jack russell so we left and went elsewhere in Comberbach.Cannot comment on the food.

Popped in for a meal whilst we were on the canal. Stumbled across steak night - £30 for 2 plus a bottle of house wine. Extremely tasty food. Warm and friendly team. Highly recommend.

Pint of craft ale in the sunshine in the huge beer garden followed by one of the best Sunday roasts I have ever had. Lovely pub, lovely location, and the Easter Bunny Landlady an added bonus! A lovely team and will keep coming back.

We moored on the pub mooring, room for two narrow boats. Dogs are welcome in the smaller bar area. Great welcome from the staff very attentive to our needs, on our numerous visits. Food is amazing. We ate on a Wednesday evening prior to quiz night, we were warmly invited to stop and join in. We had Sunday lunch which was very good, personal preference not keen on it being presented in layers like to be able to see the food and to be able to cut into it. Certainly do visit if you have not, we would return if in the area. Landlady Moira and her staff run an exceptionally good pub.

I have eaten many times at the Stanley Arms at Anderton the food is always excellent so today I went with 2 friends for afternoon tea it was superb beautifully presented a brilliant selection of sandwiches and savouries cakes desserts and wonderful scones definitely will be going again lovely friendly staff and a very welcoming atmosphere Thanks for a lovely afternoon

When we visit the stanley Arms, your greeted with a smile, hello as a friend Ÿour never rushed, and everyone is polite,friendly, welcoming, the food is superb, nice and hot and well Presented, and the staff are so helpful, nothing is to much of a problem, e g diet, drinks ect It is lovely that you can go into the s ug, have a drink or food with your furry friend of course their owners are well behaved I always tell friends and people who walk about the pub,as its so friendly It was a lovely way to celebrate my birthday very Good value Parking at the front can be a bit hazardous, would like more then one disabled space, but you can always park on the waste ground at the back of the garden which is nice to sit in the spring/ summer Thankyou Jaynemckeegan

Nice pub, staff are lovely, we popped in after a dog walk around the canal. Food was very average, we had the Stanley burgers, will not be back for food again but would go back for a drink.

Another wonderful meal today at the Stanley. We are so fortunate to have this gem of a place practically on our door step!. The food is fantastic and the Sunday lunches are amazing...as is the optional cauliflower cheese side dish. Mo is a lovely friendly owner that always makes you feel welcome as are Andy, Julie and all the other staff...nothing is too much trouble. Cosy fire in colder months and dogs welcome in the snug (even a free doggy biscuit for your fury friend😊) large garden and covered areas outside for warmer days, it's truly a great traditional pub and definitely worth a visit👍.

Hugely disappointing. We ordered a prawn jacket potato and a bacon & brie panini. The 'panini' was quite nice and fresh - but it was not panini bread. The 'marie rose prawn' jacket was awful. My wife wouldn't eat it, and after tasting it neither would I. We have eaten hundreds of 'prawn cocktails' in our lives and this was, quite simply, the worst we've ever had. To make matter worse, the staff were too busy chatting to each other to come over and ask if eveything was OK? As I was paying a waitress asked my wife if the food was OK - as she had noticed that the food was hardly touched. My wife replied that no, it was not OK, and was frankly inedible. The waitress shrugged and walked off. Sage to say that we will not be visiting again.

Met with other boaters here and was made to feel so very welcome, ordered food which came quickly (gorgeous lamb). Only downside was a lack of cask ales but after the heatwave who can blame people for rushing to have some!

Absolutely loved our visit! Food was delicious and plentiful. Very reasonably priced and served in quick shape time. The landlady welcomed us like we were old friends and made my whole family feel at home. Would definitely come back when we are next in the area and 110% recommend for everyone to visit this gem of a pub!

Good value, basic pub fayre in pleasant surroundings. There is a large garden running down to the canal, with moorings. This is a good pub to combine with a visit to the nearby Anderton Boat Lift

The review below was left five years ago and reflected my opinion at that time. I have visited since and witnessed major improvement. Well done to those involved. Rubbish. Money has been spent but there is no oversight by management. No food. No atmosphere but what there is are complaints by the few people in the pub. The beers that they have are either too warm, flat or foul tasting. Even the locals complain and walk out. How can someone own a pub and not be bothered by how it treats it's customers. It seems the owner has not been near for over a week. The only upside is, the embarrassed lad behind the bar did his best to make the best of a bad situation. Next time I travel this way, I expect this place will be closed.
