We had an excellent meal here with tentative service and delicious food. The pub was busy but the food and drinks came in a timely manner despite being at peak time on a Saturday night. We enjoyed the chicken and tarragon pie and the pork belly, with the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. All food came hot and tasted great. We will definitely be back.

Went a couple of weeks ago with my GF and what absolute delight it was from start to finish We arrived and ordered a bottle of wine at the bar from Chris who was a lovely knowledgable barman and knew his stuff about the wines they had We were shown to our table which had a fantastic view of the promenade and ordered our food, we had the smoked mackerel pate and the king prawns (both were divine) served within 10/15 minutes For mains we had fish and chips and an 8oz rump steak which was cooked to perfection We couldn’t justify puds as we’d had plenty with out first two courses And we sat there with a glorious view and another bottle of wine (Chris’s recommendation) The young lady waitress (sorry forgotten your name) and Chris were an absolute delight and a credit to the Ship Will we be going back? Most definitely The whole experience was brilliant and a big thanks to all the staff there The kitchen staff / chefs put on a good spread the waiter and waitress were both polite and attentive and a credit which is rare nowadays Well done the ship

I have visited the ship many times over the years with my dogs. On this particular night we planned to go for a dog walk and have dinner at the ship, I would not say the food alone was enough of a draw to visit. There were a few other dogs in there, there was some exchange of temporary barking from all dogs. When we sat down there was a table complaining about one of the dogs they were sat by, I did hear them say to the staff, they did not mind well behaved dogs, in my opinion the barking I heard was not enough to warrant a complaint & the owner had took the dog outside in the middle of his meal to appease them. We ordered our meals & had eaten our starters and a female member of staff approached us and said, “you may want to leave your dogs at home next time” it was said like our dogs were barred. I felt extremely uncomfortable by this remark & outlined that the ship claims to be “dog friendly” and dogs bark, I don’t believe our dogs were solely responsible for this remark even so, it was offensive and we choose to cancel our main meals & leave. I would not recommend this place as a dog friendly establishment, the staff need some additional customer service training. We have taken our dogs all over the country and many pubs & restaurants with no issues. With our dog friendly dinner now ruined and it’s was 8pm we then went to the fox & hounds (same company owns both) miles apart, food, service and extremely dog friendly staff.

I would not eat in the ship again I ordered a large fish and chips it took long enough to arrive and the place was empty! it arrived well over cooked!! the menu said triple cooked chips I could not believe the ship would serve up frozen chips! and over cooked! and the peas looked awful and out of a tin and a very small amount! the worst fish and chips I have ever been served in my life!! and at £19 it was shocking! the chef needs sacking serving that up!! I will never eat in the ship again! and my partners mackerel pate was what looked like mashed mackerel and mayo what a poor show unbelievable!!! NEVER AGAIN!

An expensive restaurant we have visited before but this will probably be the last time. My chicken and tarragon pie came with cool veg which included 1 over cooked carrot (not carrots as stated on the menu), some green beans, a few peas and a dry serving of “buttery chive mash”. I like my veg so I asked for an extra side of mixed veg - again one overcooked carrot a few beans and a few peas. For £20+ I expect a better meal than that. I also had the Peach Melba Eton mess dessert. It was smothered in what was honestly a slimy tasting cream. Not sure where the meringue was and only small amounts of the other contents were noticeable. It was noteworthy also that, although it was a cold and very windy night, the heating hadn’t been turned on and the restaurant was cold. The only reason for not complaining on the night was to avoid embarrassing our guests. The service in all fairness was very good and the staff were pleasant and helpful.

This time, we were seated (by request) at a table in the main bar area which we felt had far more atmosphere. The food was up to the usual high standards we've come to enjoy at the ship. The battered cod is the tastiest and freshest I've ever tasted anywhere on the Wirral. I tell myself I should be more adventurous and try something else but I keep coming back to my old favourite. Everyone in our party was happy with their food choices. We had a lovely waitress whose name I unfortunately did not get.

Drinks and bar staff lovely as usual, but the maybe “shift leader” was extremely rude to everyone when letting people know about last orders. Then about 15 minutes later she had practically took my half full drink out of my hand and proceeded to walk away with it after me saying I wasn’t finished. We understand they were waiting to close and that wasn’t the issue, the issue was how rude and unprofessional she was when speaking to customers.

As we were a group of 13 the table had been booked in advance. The menu is varied with something fo everyone's taste and appetite. I chose the large fish and chips ( next time I would choose the small one!). The food arrived promptly and was very hot and tasty. The portion size was huge and very filling. Although expensive compared to other restaurants it turned out to be good value. I couldn't manage a dessert on this occcasion although the ones other people ordered looked delicious. The staff were friendly and efficient. They have their own car park which is fortunate as Parkgate front can get very busy. A good experience and we will return in the future.

Booked in here for Mother's Day dinner. We've been before and been delighted with the drinks and ales on offer. Time to check out the food - we weren't disappointed. The Marckrel paté and the Koren chicken starters really impressed us. Everyone was happy with the mains too, which were all generously portioned. I had a Sticky Toffee Pudding afterwards which was great too. On this occasion the ales were missing a bitter, which was disappointing- too many IPA/Pale Ale types for me. Still quality stuff, just not my taste. As a booked in customer you can use the car park and they give you the code to release the exit barrier after your visit. Staff were brillaint and very attentive. Everything happened on time, like clock work. Great atmosphere. Booking in advance recommended. We didn't stay in the rooms - we live close by.

We often walk past this place when on our walk, so today decided to drop in for some lunch. Instantly you can tell this place is popular. Tables booked and filled, and this was early lunch time. Though some tables are put aside for walk ins. Greeted with a warm, welcome smile, asked if we could stay for lunch and shown to our table. The menu has a variety to suit all flavours. Though we went for the light bites. Highly recommend the ‘chip shop bap’. Chunky chips, generous fillet of well battered fish, and the curry sauce was full of flavour. No ps let stuff here. Reasonably priced all round, a lunch for 2 with drinks was just shy of £38. Will definitely be back again to see how it fits up of an evening.

I never thought that I would write a negative review of one of our favourite eating places but today's experience was beyond poor. Absolutely no festive atmosphere, staff service indifferent, apart from a youngster who was working hard and the bar staff. Buttery mashed potato? Dry and claggy more like. Tepid chicken pie, and carrots that were so bendy that they we're inedible. I left most of my food but we were not asked if the food had been alright. The start to our meal set the tone for what was due to come. We had waited and waited for our drinks to arrive. They had been poured and left sitting on the bar for some time whilst the waiting on staff stood chatting. In the end I collected them from the bar myself and took them back to our table. Not a major problem but the restaurant was pretty empty and the front of house staff were definitely not on the ball. I won't be rushing back.

Stayed overnight on a fairly miserable December day but the lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere and service here more than made up for it. Special mention for Emma behind the bar who made us feel so welcome. Also Jake. Will definitely return

Can't wait for food to be on offer as I'm sure it'll be just as brilliant as what the Pub Sisters have done so far. Clean and warm, great atmosphere, brilliant music and a fantastic pint 👍

Full of teenagers 18 years old in groups. Doing drungs and smoking in side the building door staff dont to care about what's going on to busy on there phones I felt like the oldest one there at the age of 30 myself. Will go for drinks elsewhere myself
