Great food fantastic service beer reasonably priced very enjoyable time beer garden absolutely fantastic.

Came here on Monday afternoon for lunch with my partner walked in treated my a lovely lady got asked to do track and trace both of us what’s fine quick and easy on the nhs app then we got seated at the table ordered drinks what came quickly and asked for a copy of the food menu about 5 minutes later a waiter asked if we are ready to order and i ordered the butter milk chicken as a started and the fish and chips as a main my partner ordered nachos as a starter and chicken and leek pie There wasn’t much of a wait for the food the starters were fantastic and what can I say the chips with the main course was the best I have ever had I will definitely recommend this pub to everyone and definitely come back soon

Great customer service. The staff could not have been more helpful, accommodating all our needs- nothing was too much trouble. The food was great; the chips were spot on, proper home made, soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, just how they should be. Halloumi burger really tasty as was the vegan bolognaise. El pub era agradable y el personal era amable y atento. Tuve el penne past boloñesa, que estaba bien y mi esposa comió pescado y patatas fritas, no le gustaba el pescado, pero le encantaron las patatas fritas. Mi hija tenía el pollo de los cazadores que le gustaba, mi única queja es que los refrescos eran muy caros. En general, es un buen lugar para comer en Chester.

Acabo de llegar a Chester por unos días. Este lugar estaba casi al lado de donde nos estábamos quedando. El personal era amable y estaba muy bien informado sobre lo que estaba sucediendo en Chester. Todos comimos filetes que no eran tan buenos pero comestibles, el lugar era muy tranquilo con poco o ningún ambiente. Realmente decepcionado

Primera vez desde el encierro haciendo un viaje a Chester, me alegro de ver que el lugar todavía tiene el mismo personal cálido y amable que, mientras realizaban todas las comprobaciones de seguridad de Covid, también se aseguraron de que se sintiera como ir a un pub real nuevamente, una gran pinta de personal de bienvenida hablador de Peroni casa de cerveza impecablemente limpia bien hecha!

Aprecio que las empresas estén tratando de encontrar su camino en tiempos sin precedentes, sin embargo, pensé que la configuración y la comida habrían sido mucho mejores. Mi hermano gemelo Stephen y yo decidimos hacer un viaje de dos días a Chester para conocer los grandes lugares que esta histórica ciudad amurallada tiene para ofrecer y disfrutar de los magníficos pubs, bares y restaurantes por los que Chester es justificadamente famoso.Me encanta el aspecto de este pub, con múltiples habitaciones, excelente decoración y muebles que incluyen un bar de estilo isleño de aspecto atractivo, una cervecería al aire libre, televisores para disfrutar del deporte y muchas opciones de asientos repartidas por todo este pub, todo ubicado en un pub fantástico.Estuvimos aquí un jueves por la tarde, recibidos calurosamente por un miembro del personal muy agradable, después de un rápido estudio de sus cervezas, los dos optamos por tomar la "cerveza dorada wainwrights" de Marston's Brewery. We stumbled across this pub on a weekend away in Chester, we walked past bar lounge which was rammed (like many places in Chester) we hadn’t booked anywhere to eat and on the day most places were fully booked. We were met by a very friendly irish lady and decided to have food here as well as a drink. We ordered burgers & a couple of sides and were surprised at the value for money compared to other places. The food was great, especially the chips (proper homemade). Id recommend this pub if you don’t like somewhere overcrowded.

Just love this pub whether wanting a quiet lunch with friends or a fun weekend night out.The staff are so friendly and helpful and seem to enjoy being there as much as the customers. The food is excellent, lots of choice and very reasonably priced as are the drinks. Saturday nights are great fun with live music and a brilliant atmosphere. Always a thoroughly enjoyable visit.

I had sizzling chicken which was lovely, so did my husband the portion sizes were good and we didn’t have long to wait for food. Well worth a visit if you want a quick bite to eat

We booked a table for a gathering to celebrate a birthday I have to say that Luke and his team did a fantastic job for us the menu has plenty of choice and both the food and the drinks are very well priced we will definetly be back

My boyfriend and I visited here for dinner on Saturday around 1pm, and it was a lovely experience. It was rather busy given the time yet it wasn’t overly noisy. The staff were polite and helpful and the food was lovely. I had an all day breakfast, my boyfriend had a ranch burger (may have got the name wrong) and the food was amazing quality, good portion size and rather affordable, with the meals costing £7-£8 each. There is plenty of choice for food on the menu and all meals are reasonably priced. We didn’t have dessert as we were full from the meals, so cannot comment on those, but plenty of choice. We really enjoyed the meal and will be visiting again the next time we are in Chester. Thankyou. :)

La entrada a Old Custom House es a través de un pasillo estrecho de Watergate Street y se puede pasar por alto fácilmente, como lo hemos hecho en ocasiones anteriores. El pub es sorprendentemente grande por dentro y es acogedor y bien equipado con un jardín de cerveza externo en la parte trasera. La variedad y la calidad de la comida y las cervezas fueron excelentes y el personal muy amable. ¡Definitivamente será agregado a nuestra lista de lugares para ir en Chester!

Only stayed for one drink as the beer was average and the woman pulling the pints was not very friendly. One of the worst experiences in Chester came as a bit of a surprise as usually most places in Chester are really friendly

Went in this pub for our evening meal. It was much more than we expected. Food was fabulous. Husband had steak, cheese and ale pie. Homemade with loads of filling. I had the hunters chicken, superb. Homemade chips lovely. Landlord couldn't do enough for us and was very pleasant

Couldnt resist but come here again after. First chance of few hours out without kids. Having a few bottles of processco with friends. Great deal on Fridays. Such a friendly down to earth pub.

We had booked into another restaurant but was let down on arrival, we found this place and was so glad we did. The staff were very good to us ,the meals were really tasty and well received. If you are looking for a good place to go give it a try it will be worth it,

Elegimos el viernes especial, 2 comidas y una botella de vino por 20. Las comidas que elegimos fueron los filetes de cadera y una botella de rojo de Hardy, ¡qué ganga! ! Nos preguntamos si las comidas serían más pequeñas o cuál sería el problema, pero fue maravilloso. Muy bien cocinados, y un gran servicio, un gran personal, muy amable. Definitivamente regresaría.

Tuvimos un buen paseo por la ciudad y nos decidimos por esto. Estaba abarrotada y ruidosa en la ciudad, pero este pub ofrecía espacio para sentarse dentro y fuera. Fuimos por el bar más tranquilo y quedamos impresionados por los extensos menús y los especiales en el tablero. Todos los platos estaban disponibles, así que elegimos un scampi y un curry. Never again. ignorant bar staff - seem to be incapable of communication, ie. no please, thank you or a smile! Suggest the staff have a career move as very impolite. Only had a couple of drinks - thank goodness we didn't order food and give more money to this worthless place. I pity the tourists visiting Chester.

Came here with my neice on a saturday, place was getting busy for the rugby.

Booked online, which is done through the brewery’s website & then forwarded onto the pub. Received confirmation &, several days later, received email direct from pub advising that they couldn’t reserve the area requested as it was for Saturday teatime & they would be busy (which was the reason for booking in the first place). Email suggested I could book a smaller area for us, which I agreed & asked for confirmation, no response, several days later I rang & was advised that there were no bookings for that evening. Obviously cancelled mine altogether. Ok, so can I book now? No need it’s not busy. Yes, I would like to book, reluctant response, but eventually found a pen & took details. As I wasn’t completely sure, I phoned a few hours before arriving to check, yes the booking was there but the details were incorrect, including the phone number, which I had repeated several times. When we arrived, the reserved table was the one I requested in the first place. It was 5 o’clock Saturday evening, pub not very busy. Plenty of staff. Food was fresh & ok, however 2 of the orders were for curry which was a little greasy, we didn’t have the mango & naan listed on the menu with either curry. No one asked if meals were ok, although there were plenty of staff & a reasonably quiet pub. All in all a bit hit & miss! Disappointing.

I hadn’t eaten at the Custom House in a good few years when a few of us decided to go there for their 3 course Christmas menu. We wanted something relatively cheap, as this was one of many meals out for us all over the run up to Christmas, and at £75 for 5 of us, this certainly ticks that box.

Whilst staying in Chester popped into this pub for dinner one night. Good selection of home cooked food at a reasonable price. Lots of different seating from tables and chairs to comfy sofas. The chips were definitely homemade and delicious. Would eat here again.

Needed hot food inside of us as it was a freezing cold night,called in here,ordered beef rib stew with mash and sausage and Yorkshire stack with cheesy mash,after around 15 minutes the food was served to us,my husband's was two sausages cut in half and put in two small Yorkshire puddings,the cheesy mash was the same as what I had,no cheese in it at all,in fact we both thought it was instant mash,and a few carrots and peas,my beef rib stew came in an oval shaped dish with around a half of an inch of stew in it also carrots and peas,we ate the lot in under 10 minutes as was cold and hungry,but not one of the best meals we have had,the pub was rather modern inside,would of preferred oldy worldy.

Nice food not too expensive slightly dark room for eating a meal but that’s the old style building in Chester.

My friend and I visited this place tonight for dinner. We both ordered the fish, chips and mushy peas. Over cooked unrecognisable fish, possibly pollock, chips although they appeared to be deep fried were also over cooked. All in all rather disappointing.

My partner and I called in for a drink on a Wednesday evening - 6.00 ish. Hardly anyone in the pub but although several members of staff were on duty it took a while to get served. no-one seemed to be in attendance in the main bar so walked through to the back bar. One girl talking to a customer who seemed to be a regular and playing about with an i-pad and another girl on the phone. Eventually i-pad girl served us and was quite pleasant but the other 2 members of staff looked really miserable. The atmosphere was not pleasant. Would not go in again for an early doors drink. Dont know what the food is like as we decided against staying for a meal.

Once again met up with nurse colleagues for lunch and catch up lovely outdoor seating area .Food delicious.Service excellent.staff very attentive nothing to much trouble we will definitely be returning

Love this cosy little pub. The blonde girl who was on was so nice. The food was gorgeous, the chunky chips were the best. We got the fish & chips bites and black pudding start, and the steak, and steak and ale pie. All of it was gorgeous. Would recommend.

Went here on a Saturday lunch time and was fairly disappointed. It was pretty quiet yet there was a very long wait for the food. When it did come out it was very average. I had fish and chips which tasted as if it was cooked elsewhere, frozen, bought in and then heated up.

We were staying locally as a family and went into this lovely pub on 2 occasions.

Always come to this pub when in Chester. Lovely atmosphere to just sit, have a chat and enjoy a good beer/ale/drink. Food is worth a look too, chips especially.

Visited this lovely old pub last night with friends. Had a delicious curry and very reasonably priced prosecco. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is great with live music thrown into the mix. Brilliant night with a lot of happy people.

We were a party of three visiting Chester and came across this pub/restaurant while walking through the town centre. We decided to call in for a bite to eat and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meals. All three of us said the meal was fantastic. I would definitely recommend it to anyone passing

We are regular visitors of the Custom House. We have always found the food to be lovely with that home cooked feeling. They also have offers on certain nights, including two for one on main courses. We always enjoy going there and can't fault it. The staff are friendly too. Would recommend as it is good value for money and not overpriced.

This might be the cheapest pub lunch in town. The staff are friendly, and a decent choice of grub. Change from a tenner even with a drink.

Ate a late lunch here after arriving in Chester for a few days away. Very attentive gent behind the bar who took the time to ask questions and offer advice about Pokemon hunting. Fish finger baguette and cheese and chutney sandwich both served with chips, tasty!

Called in originally last March and sat outside in the unusual beer garden (like sitting in your front room) went again in December when the pub was really nicely done out for Christmas. Each time we have just had drinks but would try the food when next in Chester.

After walking around for a while trying to find somewhere that was actually serving food we chanced upon this pub and very glad we did, decent food, not bad value and decent beer too.

We went last night for a meal, I’ve never eaten here before, but will certainly be returning very soon. On walking in the pub felt nice and Christmassy. We ordered our food at the bar, as there was 9 of us we tried a number of dishes, everyone enjoyed their food. I had the steak, medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. All the food was hot and came out together. Which not all places manage to achieve. The homemade chips were to die for. I would defo recommend this pub if your in Chester shopping in the day or just a meal in the evening.and want a traditional pub, with great hot and cold food and a lovely atmosphere. The prices of the food and bottles of wine were very reasonable for such a central pub in town. Looking forward to our next visit.

Visited Custom House today with old friends, we chose various starters and puds but all had Christmas lunch. It was excellent, all fresh and beautifully cooked. Service really good even though the place was packed. This place just gets better with Danielle and her team!

Had a meal here on a Friday evening. The pub was very busy but we had booked a table in advance. We both enjoyed the Chicken Sizzler meal which came with chips and salad and was great value. My husband then had the chocolate brownie and I had the apple crumble. The food is excellent quality and a great price. Service by Danielle and Vicky was excellent too.

By its name and location expected a little more character and atmosphere. Visited for a drink so cannot comment on the food.

Called in for lunch, first impression was of an old world comfortable pub. Staff very friendly and helpful. Had a wonderful couple of Wainwrights and lovely food. Really impressed with the quality of the food and the service. This pub is worth walking to the end of the street for.

Highly recommend this place! Fantastic food and the bar staff were very friendly. I had a jacket potato and it was delicious, cooked to perfection! We always come here for lunch when we are staying in chester. Been here so many times. Love the pub, we have always enjoyed the food and sets us up for a few pints in the afternoon.

Tried this place on our first night in Chester. The ales were great but the meal was half disappointing. They had a two-for-one steak special, so ordered 2 sirloin steaks. My wife's was fine and cooked to rare perfection. Mine wasn't sirloin at all, but some mysterious meat thet my late mother-in-law wouldn't have fed to her cat.Next time I will read the fine print more carefully. If something sounds too good to be true, then chances are it will be just that.

Just been to this pub in Chester and I must say it was fantastic. Food was great value £9:00 for two main meals buy one get one free on Monday to Friday the food was excellent. Customer service was excellent very well run pub and very friendly and clean we will definitely be back when were in Chester.

Went in here two nights running for our evening meal. Staff were very friendly and food was delicious. On the Friday night there was a band on who were great and just added to the friendly, happy atmosphere.

Met few girls from work for lunch. Had lovely food but one get one free between 12 and 5pm real home cooked food amazing chips. Really friendly staff nothing was to much. Would say to anyone who's out in Chester to go and eat there they also have many drink offers on.

Popped in for dinner and a drink. Tucked away at the end of Watergate St. Nice friendly welcome, good beers, fairly quiet but it was a Tuesday night. Had the fish and chips. Not the best I have had, chips were a little soggy but good enough.

wanted a meal late afternoon and liked the look of this pub from outside. chose home made lasagne from 2 for 1 menu. good size portion and taste. enjoyed so much we decided to eat again on Tuesday grill night. again food very tasty washed down with wine offer buy 2large glasses get rest of bottle free, not bad a bottle of hardys for £8 and 1 steak and 1 gammon for £11.50

We went on a Tuesday which is 2 steaks for 1...the food is amazing. I highly recommend the steak. Also the staff are lovely and welcoming. The pub itself is very cosy and had a good outdoor area. Great place for any occasion.

Met up with family for lunch today and decided to go to The Custom House. We arrived just after opening time thirsty and hot. We ordered drinks and went to sit under an umberella in the beer garden. It was cool and comfy so stayed out there for lunch. We had great service, great food and great value for money. We were able to sit and chat in a relaxed and peaceful area and enjoyed a truly lovely couple of hours. Thank you Custom House.

Went there for a meal and a drink on a Friday.Special offer of Prosecco for £10.had a really good meal and enjoyed fizz.Excellent staff.

This Pub is a regular place for us just a quick drink before going home but we decided to stay for Lunch. As is quite usual now in many similar Pubs, there is one member of staff manning the Bar, serving drinks, taking the orders, spinning plates with the proverbial brush tied to their rear as they go. However, in this case the poor barman-plate spinner he did his very best and my concern is certainly not directed at him. We were served on our sticky table very quickly, and although it was very early lunchtime we were both served homemade chips that had clearly been re heated, well past their best, and served 'warmish'as if left under a sun lamp. The two really greasy fried eggs were plonked straight on the top of the Ham and the warmish Chips, not in an artistic manner, just plonked. So, the meal was just a soggy, oily mess. Considering this is a major historic City with visitors from all over the world I feel that the standards could and should be so much better and had I taken a visitor, I would have been totally embarrassed at the experience. Would I recommend this premises? Well, for a quick drink, yes, a meal, no, there is better. To be honest, we both agreed we would have had a hotter fresher meal in the nearby Burger King. So that says it all really? It could be so much better.

Randomly chose to have some lunch in here, fancied some pub grub and thought the menu looked decent. As it was nice we sat outside, and thanks to the 2 for 1 burger deal had a very tasty and good value lunch, the chips were very tasty. Would reccomend if you want a comforting, filling lunch.

We came to chester to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary. It was a Saturday night but hadn't realised how lively it would be - quite a few hen and stag parties causing mayhem. Most of the pubs were very noisy,.This pub was a haven of tranquility where we could actually talk to each other. We ate elsewhere but we wish we came here to eat as the menu had some interesting dishes. We will come back here next time

Do not order the steak burger as the grease dripped out of it and the chips had the same problem. The cutlery was dirty , I ordered the steak, cheese and ale pie chips and veg , this consisted of hunt for the steak in the pie followed by one spoonful of peas and two slices carrot was your veg finished off with super greasy chips . Categorically would not recommend this place for eating.

Another glorious day so myself and my lady wife decided to walk the walls as we had never done them before,nothing to rave about but did give us a bit of an appetite.Having called in a few days earlier for a swift half we called in again as we do like the place seeing there was a two meals for nine quid offer i thought why not push the boat out and spoil her again (joke) with add ons cost us under fifteen quid for a soup starter cheeseburger and chips,ham egg and sweet potato fries and a toffee apple crumble,ok it wasn,t fine dining but it was such good value the Wiltshire ham was a proper thickness not see through and having never had sweet potatoe fries before was pleasantly surprised how nice they tasted,slight mishap with the pudding which we had to ask for but got to say for what we paid it was just the job

The Old Custom House is a reasonably large and bright old pub with a modern yet simplistic decor that I liked. Good service and good beer, this is certainly one of the classier city centre pubs.

Very old world looking from the outside and fits in nicely with the Chester landscape of old buildings.Has a lounge and public bar but as the public was noisy we chose the lounge bar for a pint.Nice cosy little bar with a few tables and nice window seats. But once you venture around the bar to the toilets you soon find the bar area is huge, with tables going back quite some way. Bulmers cider and a red wine was just over £8 so not expensive and bar staff were very nice.People come and go quite a lot so we came to the conclusion it was very much a pub used by locals.
