Monday afternoon quick meet point. Nice and quiet (hoped for). Friendly staff, comfy. nice pint, been a few years since last visit, would happily call in again.

Lovely pub, excellent food and friendly staff. I have dietary needs which are always met. Prices very reasonable and beautifully kept surroundings, spotlessly clean.

Meet up here with friends and it is a pleasure to walk into this pub;always greeted with a smile and hello.Nothing is too much trouble from asking for directions to sorting out what we want off the menu. Prices are very reasonable for food amd drinks and you are given the impression that nothing is too much trouble.

Ye Old Custom House – A Hidden Gem in Chester! During a recent family visit to Chester, we were on the lookout for a great dining spot when someone recommended Ye Old Custom House—and it exceeded all expectations! The atmosphere is everything you’d want from a classic British pub—warm, welcoming, and full of character.The pub was impeccably clean, and the staff were exceptionally friendly. One particularly lovely staff member took the time to share some history about Chester, adding a special touch to our visit. The food was the highlight of our experience. We ordered the curry, and it was out of this world—rich, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. It was easily one of the best pub curries we’ve ever had, with generous portions and great presentation. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Chester, Ye Olde Custom House is an absolute must. We’ll definitely be back!

Ye Old Custom House on Watergate street is a very historic pub that offers a fantastic food and drinks range and when we where here it was as busy as it get's.This pub is an excellent pub and is one of the reasons me and my twin brother visit Chester as there's many historic pubs in Chester. Ye Old Custom House is housed in 2 former house's one dating from 1637 and the other house dating from the early 18th century.Its got a brilliant interior with many interesting fixtures and features and excellent seating options throughout the whole pubs interior and is a real joy to visit. On and off we have visited this historic pub many times over the years and its a superb pub to relax and unwind with a beer or one of there meal's.It's really changed since we first went to here and its just nice to have a few beer's in this excellent pub.On our visit we had Wainwright brewery cask ale's that were perfectly served and were well priced considering the pub we were in and where this excellent pub is located. It's an excellent pub'a very historic pub in a superb area of the city centre and is a pub well worth visiting.(This is my second review of Ye Old Custom House). Opening Hours. What a lovely pub this is. A warm relaxed atmosphere with superb accommodating staff that could not do anymore to make our experience special. Delicious food (5 star actually) we have been back twice since and it’s definitely becoming a local hot spot for us! Situated in a lovely spot An absolute treasure of a place.

Never disappointed when lunching at this lovely little pub, in the heart of Chester.Great choice of reasonably priced food. I meet up with old nursing colleagues monthly and we are-always made to feel welcome.The food is always delicious and well presented .Staff very friendly . This is now are go to place .

Visited Chester for day with my nan. Popped in the pub for a lunch time meal . Nicest fish and chips I have had for a long time. No complaints very clean .Great customer service with very friendly staff felt very comfortable to be there . Will be back when I visit Chester . 100%recomend

Local pub to my work go here once a fortnight. Coulple of the lads go here weekly. Pint of San Miguel and hunters chicken are my recommendations.

Great food, good value but drinks expensive

The pub looked lovely and a lot less overcrowded than other places which gives me anxiety so we thought we would give it a try, we ordered two drinks then I decided to buy 2 shots with it being my partners birthday, I could not believe it when two shots cost over £9 and it was over £23 in total, there were no drinks menus or prices anywhere but the food menus has reasonable prices so we thought the drinks would be similar, we were very wrong, maybe we should of asked first but we felt embarrassed and didn’t want to be judged if we asked the price first, after paying we went on the website to find out why it cost so much only to see that it cost £9.50 for 3 shots so basically we paid the same price for 2, my partner went to question this and they said it was our fault for only ordering the 2 and not the 3, however this is the first place we have been that does not have prices anywhere, we just felt like we were completely ripped off and the service wasn’t a nice experience especially on his birthday. We were also disappointed that for such a clean looking pub there was wee all over the men’s toilets floor, the staff seemed more busy talking than caring about anyone that was not a regular customer, did not feel welcomed at all and would not return, leaving feeling very disappointed, ripped off and put a downer on our evening,

The experience was amazing from beggining to end, allergens and intolerances were taken seriously with the upmost care.

Food was medium good, but well overpriced .. Have had much better food for quite less... A good atmosphere though and of course the Italian waiter flourish....

Lovely traditional town centre pub

We had a carol concert at the cathedral and naively took our 3 month old baby without thinking how busy it would be. We booked a meal beforehand at the Old Custom House and as we left home the baby needed feeding. The Old Custom House were extremely accommodating in moving our booking. Upon arrival, the manager greeted us and chaperoned us through the bar with the pram ensuring no Christmas revellers were in the way. The atmosphere when she did was lovely, everyone moving out of the way of the pram and extremely polite. The gentleman who took our order the bar was the same person who rearranged our booking over the phone. He took the time to double check the change in table was appropriate for us and asked whether we wanted to open up a tab. All in all this was a very quaint pub with a lovely atmosphere. The staff are amazing and this is reflected in the people who drink there. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place to anyone as, for me, that’s what a good pub is about…it’s people! Next year we’ll get a baby sitter and return, this time having a few drinks too. Thanks Ye Olde Custom House for making one of our first ventures out with the baby a brilliant one and Merry Christmas!

Another visit lunch time ,the pulled pork baguette and home made chips were tasty as ever , service was quick and friendly.Great pub ,few steps to gain access,you walk into the bar where their are tables and chairs for dining and just a drink, their are other rooms in the back,food was excellent and good portion size , steak pie was really nice , reasonable price too

Me and my family visited Chester yesterday and saw this pub so thought we would pop in, so glad we did as the food was amazing, the atmosphere great and relaxed. I would like to say a big thank you to the chef for the fantastic quality of food, best pub food I have had in a long time and I regularly eat out at pubs. If I could give more than 5 stars I would.

We went there on a Saturday night. There was a band playing which created a fantastic atmosphere

Surprised at how big it was inside, compared to the frontage on the street. A familiar but very reasonable food menu. You wont find anything here you wouldn't find in a Wetherspoons or Greene King, was impressed by the quality of the food. Friendly staff. Overall really enjoyed the stay, will definitely be returning.

We only stopped for a quick drink, but it was worth it. Places like this with craft beers and such like are well worth a visit. Some unique drinks served by friendly staff. The food looked amazing, too. Wish we could have stayed longer 👏

After a week of mainly very rich (but very nice) dining, we had a much needed Scampi and Chips, and it was absolutely bang on!

Didn”t eat there only had drinks. However the food did look and smell lovely.

Nice place, nice drinks, good service, brilliant food. I had The Ultimate Spicy Beef Burger and it was the best burger I've ever had. Beef patties, BBQ pulled pork, bacon, cheese, lettuce, jalapeños, it was the dream. Also still amazing without jalapeños if you're not into your spice, but it tasted so good. And not only that, but it came with phenomenal fries and it stayed together really well, where some burgers may have started dropping into pieces into the late stages of eating. My perfect burger. I recommend very highly.

Always friendly and great service here. The quality of food and drink is excellent - food is reasonably priced and always quickly served and HOT as it should be! Top marks to the staff and manager here for keeping up high standards, where so many fall these days!

This was a pub that came up as an option on my Google search. Then walking down the road we found it. Rude not to pop in, we had a drink then a meal. The bar staff put us on a tab. We had a couple more drinks and a thoroughly pleasant afternoon. The bill wasn't big bucks. Loved it. Going through customs has never been so enjoyable. More yee ha than ye old. Had a cowboy burger to fit in with my theme.

If you like good English / British food, this is the place. Made our decision to go there based on Tripadvisor’s reviews and wasn’t disappointed. Hunters Chicken and Scampi was our choice - excellent. Will certainly return when in Chester again.

Popped in for lunch during the week as it seemed quiet. The bar man was very friendly (sorry didn’t catch his name). We waited about half an hour for 3 main meals but it was well worth the wait. The chicken & bacon salad was amazing (not often you can ever say a salad tastes amazing!), and the other main meals were piping hot when they arrived. Great value for money & so glad we found this little gem. We’ll definitely be eating here again when next in Chester.

Absolutely loved our visit from start to finish! The building is beautiful and very convenient for the rest of Chester’s amazing sights. Lovely ambience, very clean, and lots of gorgeous decorative touches. The staff were so lovely, welcoming, friendly and so thoughtful. Our meal had just arrived and my husband had already got up to get a drink from the bar. The lovely barman said no worries I’ll get whatever you want, took his order, brought it over and said just pay at the bar when you’re ready but no rush, enjoy your meal. I love thoughtful customer service like that! We live on a canal boat so visit many pubs in different areas and this is our favourite in 2 years of living aboard. The drinks were lovely, refreshing and icy cold. The food (Ultimate Chicken Burgers) was delicious! Very hot, so fresh, very well presented. A perfect pub lunch. And as we left, the lady behind the bar gave us a very cheery goodbye. Cannot fault the place at all- will definitely be back when we are next in Chester.

Popped in for a meal on Saturday, it had a varied menu which was reasonably priced , food tasted good and the staff were very pleasant, it was quite busy but the food was delivered quickly and they were very obliging in changing the order slightly to accommodate us when we ordered. Later we popped back in for a drink and again it was very nice and the atmosphere was great. We will call again.

Staying overnight in Chester for work and was told to come here for good pub food. A quaint pub with a great atmosphere. Not over packed so peaceful enough to enjoy a meal. Service was excellent, Food was tasty and hot (had cowboy burger)😋 Staff very polite, friendly and welcoming. Will definately eat here again if and when in the area.

Called in on Christmas Eve as staying in Chester over Christmas in the Crowne Plaza opposite, lovely warm welcoming and friendly place , we are going back to Chester in the Spring 🌼, so will return

Lovely place good pint of beer and beautiful food

seemed like a nice pub and ordered some starters and drinks - it took a while and when it came was the worst macaroni cheese I've ever seen/had - so watery, and pasta mushy - like out of a tin - not oven baked for sure. It wasn't edible.

Can’t rate this venue highly enough. Fantastic friendly atmosphere , food delicious.Spotlessly clean staff could not do emough for us,excellent value for money .To top it all off right in the heart of beautiful Chester.Will definitely be back

Spent 3 night break in Chester and having visited the Old Customs House last year we returned…we ate here every night and between myself and my wife we had 6 different meals. All were 5 star pub meals, you simply can’t go wrong. Thanks to all the staff..see you next year

Been here a few times previously. The food was good & freshly cooked, reasonably priced, friendly atmosphere, everywhere was clean. Worth a visit even though it's just off the main shopping area

Great pub, lovely staff, came here while camping on Chester racecourse during the yearly food festival, ate here a couple of times and not disappointed. Beer great, I recommend Marston’s if you’re a real ale drinker. Well recommended 👍

Spent 2 nights here , was very surprised, beautiful reception area and lovely helpful girl on reception, our room 111 couldn't of been any better , the bed was soo comfy , everything you need for a hot drink was provided, and excellent maid service ,would highly recommended and will definitely return ,couldnt fault anything
