Visited Easter Sunday and found it to have a Pleasant, clean quiet atmosphere . Staff friendly food good: only thing that let the visit down. We had fish and chips and when asked if there was any Tarta sauce the young lady delivering the meal looked puzzled and said “no we only have what’s on their pointing at a shelf by the bar. This is the only Weathetspoon I’ve visited that has no Tarta sauce. Oh well not the end of the world. Other than that we hadd a great time.

It's a Spoons so it won't win any prizes for atmosphere or it's mega sophisticated clientele (including me) but it does the job

Great place to eat if staying in Chester. Good value for money.

Good drinks however staff seem disinterested and you have to collect drinks yourself. My father went up to the bar as our drinks were not being delivered and asked a member of staff if the drinks were ours. Response: "I don't know". My father then asked if he should take these drinks and the staff replied "If you want". Another thing to add, it's quite hard to find a clean table. I don't even know what people have been doing on these tables but they have left some unknown things on them.

Absolute joke wouldn’t accept Scottish bank notes said it’s company policy 😡obviously don’t know Wetherspoons are in Scotland also!!!

We visited this Wetherspoon pub on our way back to the hotel nearby after having our meal at a lovely Italian restaurant Sergio’s. We walked up to the bar and were told by the bar tender he’d be with us in a moment ( as he rolled his eyes as if he was fed up) he was waiting for a guy to come back. We said there was no rush as we hadn’t decided on our drinks. One of our group started saying what she’d like and he advised us he would not be able to serve her as she was ‘slurring her words’. We informed him that this was just the way she spoke! He said he’d heard that line before and on that occasion ‘it had kicked off’ he also said he wasn’t being rude but would not be serving her! This person in our group has a speech impediment and I in matter of words informed him of this but he still refused to serve her. She was very upset about this and so we left. One of our group could hear him and another female member of staff sniggering about the situation. On a better note,We found a great little pub called the Union vaults where we enjoyed the rest of our evening. One of our group did go and speak to the bar tender who said his name was Tyler. Maybe Tyler will now have a little more empathy in future for people who have disabilities as not every disability is visible!

We had a good time here as in every Wetherspoon. The service was good and prompt. We were surprised that the place is full even on a weekday, but that’s the way Chester is, so no complaints. We sat at one of the cozy nooks, with a table like as in a groove. Had a good time here, and the loo is fab as always.

Overall it was okay. The app wasn’t working, the food came and was only warm. The curry was definitely reheated and was rather tough. Same for the rice it was crunchy?

Visited this beautiful City with family.Great value and food and the beauty of no music blaring and no Yappy Dogs. Good service and courteous staff.Only down side was that both the coffee machines were in need of being re-filled but really enjoyed it otherwise.

Went for breakfast . Ordered a full English and a Mexican style breakfast . The cup for the coffee took so long to come and when the breakfast arrived no eggs were on it . Asked the guy behind the bar and he said no eggs and they were giving extra hash browns . The Mexican breakfast came then with a poached egg so was very random . Few meals seemed to be getting sent back . Not the best experience .

Had a quick drink on a Saturday tea time and got a table no bother which was a surprise. Good service ordered on the app, always cheap but great selection of drinks

As someone who suffers with a disability I was treated badly. I suffer with serious narcolepsy my whole party were ejected without reason and even when explained after only having 2 drinks we were asked to leave. Never ever again.

Wetherspoons are all great for having a drink and food for a reasonable price.

Tables not been cleared up, dirty, have visited this place numerous times and from my point of view it is getting worse! very bad management!! Will not be returning again!!

I was there on 29-3-25. I noticed that someone had given the wrong food to the customer on the table. They went back to the table and asked the customer if they had touched the food and then took it away from her and then continued to take that plate to the right customer. That plate of food should have been put in the bin. Very bad service that.

You can't really go wrong with a spoons, cheap and cheerful, good food. Fast service.

A very rude manager with bad service don’t recommend here go to the Bull and Stirrup Wetherspoons a lot better service

Lovely wetherspoons, very attentive staff and great food and drink

This must be one of the worst Wetherspoons I’ve ever visited - all the empty tables were full of crockery cutlery and glasses and we had to move things to create a space on a table. The coffee was awful too - not very hot and quite bitter. I tried a different version for my refill but that was as bad. Just glad we changed our mind about wresting there.

We called in as we always do when in Chester. This was Sunday last weekend. We sat at a table where you can see the food under hot lamps. We watched a burger in bun, chips waiting to be delivered to a table. Numerous staff ignored it being there even the manager, ignored it too. It remained there for at least twenty minutes eventually the manager checked the food screen had discussions with some staff and what we saw next horrified us especially when two trained chefs were with us. The manager who had been collecting bottles, glasses from tables took off the top of the burger bun put his hands on top of the burger and chips with no gloves and dirty contaminated hands to check the warmth of the burger and chips. He then went on to scrape the chips off into a bin, got new chips on the plate and took the food out to a customer. It took all our strength to not interfere, we felt sorry for the customer. We will never eat here again, and just to say he knew we were watching and he still continued with this poor practice. He does not portray good practice so why should his team members.

Totally bewildered by the red haired bar lady demanding myself and a friend to leave after a single drink. Myself and my friend were sat chatting pleasantly for around an hour before deciding to order a second drink - before being told I was too drunk to order. I don't usually leave reviews like this, however I've never experienced this level of disrespect! What poor service, shocking pub

Reasonable priced food and drinks

Wetherspoons is like marmite you either like it or hate it ………we love it . Good drinks at affordable prices . A great bar to people watch and have a laugh . Hard working staff .

Always visit when in Chester, can't go wrong with Wetherspoons

This was a superb pub for drinking, with a bright and well styled interior! The pillars and boxed seating in some areas are really nice, counter is well-presented too. Christmas decorations are pretty and toilets were fine, cleanliness as a whole is consistent. I had a tasty Chicken Tikka Masala with rice and seating is comfortable, table was well kept too!

The Square Bottle is located in the heart of Chester and is one of two Wetherspoons in Chester and its located on Foregate street were there are some interesting pubs/bars and restaurants to visit. This Wetherspoon's has a spacious interior with many interesting fixtures and features relating to the history of Chester.They offer as all Wetherspoon pubs offers a fantastic range of well priced food and drinks and is a pub we've visited many times on our visits to Chester. We went here a couple of times on our stay in Chester and had a few meal's and a few cask ales.The meal's where superb and the cask ales spot in.Its a superb Wetherspoon pub in a superb area of Chester and is well worth visiting if your around this area.(This is my second review of the Square Bottle). The Square Bottle Pub in Chester is one of the busiest pubs in the city,a big Wetherspoon pub that I always look forward to visiting on any trip to this historic Roman walled city I take. The pub itself is superb, an island style serving bar dominates the main room, typical Wetherspoon decor and furnishings, photo's of old Chester adorning the walls and there's plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its just a really good pub to unwind in . On our two day stay in Chester we visited this pub and had a bit of a beer session here ,started off with some great real ale's which were served in pristine condition, as we are members of C.A.M.R.A we have C.A.M.R.A tokens which entitle you to 50p off the price of a real ale pint so making a great value for money pint an even better value for money pint, we also had a meal here ,a pizza which was so tasty, we enjoyed some continental beers,the bottles of Birra Moretti, a great Italian lager style beer were amazing, couldn't fault anything about our visit here, can't wait to go again next time we're in Chester. The Square Bottle is easy to locate along Foregate Street. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday, 8am till midnight. Well worth checking out if you're in the area or planning a trip to Chester.

Another great Spoony pub. Very busy being a tourist city and you may have to wait to find a seat. Service efficient, pleasant and fast and food good. Needed a little clean up but staff were run off their feet.

Slow service , dirty tables not cleared , good beers as with any wetherspoon but always wonder about the state I the kitchen whe. The bar is scruffy

Service was very good but wasn't impressed with food. Two different vegan dishes I requested for family not available.

Service was quick and happy and the price wasn't bad. My partner was very happy with the cooked dinner. But some advice go there early as they do run out of certain things especially the meat as there was no beef. But the chicken was very nice.

We visited the pub on Saturday. We sat at table 24. My partners expensive top was torn on the NAILS STICKING UP FROM THE TABLE. I have contacted Wetherspoons only to to receive a reply “thanks for letting us know” I have requested a form of compensation And a copy of their public liability insurance document. It seems the manager, Jordan I think doesn’t care about customers and has brushed this incident under the carpet. Please see pics of the danger we encountered

Nice pint and food before the match

Cold breakfast, missing bacon, toast was not toasted, one coffee machine for whole restaurant (other was broken) queue for fifteen minutes for the coffee , dirty tables.

I would recommend this to everyone.

The food is okay and the atmosphere is good I would suggest having the appetizers as they are great. The drinks price is reasonable as it's a wetherspoon.

2 people behind the bar when it was quite b7sy obviously had no interest in serving people in any kind of order of how long they had been standing at the bar. My friend politely asked he could be served next after 3 people were served before him after they had arrived at the bar after him the reply was if you say anything else you will not be served at all. Appalling attitude from staff I will never visit any weatherspoons ever again

Typical weather spoons pub . We got here and it was rammed full. Took ages to get a table.then took a while to get food even when we ordered through the app.

Had a breakfast, But it was not the usual standard beans were cold and poached eggs were hard and not runny, We didn't complain at the time as we were in a rush as car parking was ending.

We are regular users of Wether spoons pubs,as we travel monthly on day coach trips all over the country. I was surprised that this particular pub allows people to bring their dogs in. It is Wetherspoons policy only to allow guide dogs into their premises. I did ask to speak with a manager but the person who appeared to be on duty was not from that particular pub and said that a more senior member had allowed the two couples and their dogs into the premises.

Just popped in for a quick breakfast. The food was good and pleasant friendly staff.

Fish and chips were good, decent portions

What can I say I wait by the bar for the best part of 15 minutes I was sick of waiting so went back to my seat and bought on my app.Another 12 minutes no drinks it's not even that busy and many staff,so nearly 30 minutes for one solitary pint.

Typical spoons, but as tourists, we were warned against going to this side of Chester. Not Wetherspoons fault. Be careful if you go here late on a Saturday night.

Topical Weatherspoons,we went there for a breakfast in the morning, while visiting the Christmas market not far from the train station and in the evening for a chilled drink to relax from all the walking, great atmosphere.

The normal at Witherspoon's staff do a great job of serving you as quickly as possible, with great prices, did not have food, but noticed that people were being served quickly and the food I saw was very nice

Awful. Understaffed- they are running around like headless chickens. Waited over 30 mins for drinks ordered from the app. Toilets are filthy, at 4.15 on a Saturday afternoon, there is no loo paper, flush not working and the whole area looks like ut hasn't been cleaned for days. Only a trickle of water from the tap. Disappointed, can usually relay on the basics at a weatherspoons

Oh dear. Got there at 635, ordered at 650. Got to 750pm no food. Spoke to a member of staff and he said there's a rush on, nothing for 20 minutes. Spoke to him again and he said he would chase it up. Got to 1 hour and 20 minutes waiting 810pm found the manager Spoke to him and asked why it's taking so long. Apparently they put my food on hold by accident. Got the food in roughly 1 hour and 30 minutes waiting. All I ordered was 2 burgers and a wrap. The food came and the egg was underdone and snotty. I think they rushed it out when they realised they messed up. The manager gave me a free pint for waiting a horrendous amount of time but even for a Friday this is unacceptable. We were in a hurry to go to a gig and was now late to it. My friends sitting on the same table did a separate order and got it in 20 minutes, also everyone around us got their food even though they got there after us. Never eating here again. Ridiculous awful service. Never again, shambles

I travel alot around the country and stop for food in Wetherspoon but I must say this was one of the best I have ever had
