I was treating a friend to an overnight stay near Chester with the first day being spent on a shopping spree in the city, something that was long overdue thanks to the covid lockdown. I tried to find somewhere a little different for us to eat that lunchtime as the restaurant we would normally use had sadly closed permanently. We found this a rather unusual place and opted for the tapas style small plates. With hindsight, we should have ordered less than we did as the portions were larger than expected. The decor was a little odd and not particularly to my taste. The service was fairly attentive without being over the top and as far as we could tell, all covid guidelines were followed.

I came here with a friend for lunch as part of my birthday weekend. The building is lovely, I loved the interior of the reception area and the loos but the restaurant was more modern and did not seem in keeping with the rest of the building. We both opted for the small platters and, in hindsight, we did not need to order as many as we did. The food was nice but nothing out of the ordinary.

Llegamos para un té de la tarde reservado con antelación. ¡No volveremos! ! !

No volverá.

¿No volveré?

Ve a tomar algo y come en otro lugar.

Very disappointing, expensive and amazed by the lack of food served to us for my daughters birthday afternoon tea. There were 5 of us in our party and we had one cake stand between us all. £75 for a few fingers sandwiches, four mini dry scones and I don’t know what else to say really. I complained and was served extra savouries on the house but the disappointment on my daughters’ face said it all. We definitely won’t recommend going here.

AFTERNOON TEA!! visited this place 'for a change' and was not impressed, I was first greeted and taken our table (perfectly fine), then I was given some water and asked for some tea; I was later given a tiny tea pot ,which didn't last 5 minutes.... Then the food came out, it was okay, nothing special but sweets were a tad better. The one thing that let it down the most was, the fact we waited half an hour to try and pay the bill because there was no staff in sight; we resorted to walking around the area to try and find someone so that we could pay and eventually leave.wont be coming again!!

We planned to visit odd fellows for afternoon tea having booked a night away in Chester for our belated anniversary and my husbands birthday. I’d booked via email with Oddfellows on 22 November to visit on 2 January at 2pm. We were told we could decide on the day if we wanted ‘sweet’ or ‘savoury’ afternoon tea. The website also stated prices at £18.50 or afternoon tea for 2 plus a drink each at £39.50....and promises a little bit of ‘odd’. Great! We arrived just before 2pm, I spoke to someone on the welcome desk to say we’d arrived (our name given) who told us to go through to the bar and someone would come to get us, order a drink if we wanted. So we did. Fizz and a Guinness, thank-you.At 2.25pm I approached the bar and asked when we could go through - and he said ‘whenever you’re ready’. Ok, miscommunication - it happens. We went through but we weren’t actually on the list - this is where I suppose the miscommunication happened... our names weren’t down. Anyway, we’re were seated immediately - fine. The menus were on the table as Festive Afternoon Tea - which was £20.something and no sign of the deal with a drink. We ordered a sweet and a savoury platter but I had to specifically request the deal. Drinks arrived but empties weren’t taken away. So on the table (for 2), we have two platters, two teapots, 2 glasses for water (not used) , 4 other glasses. Everything was just stacked on the table rather than just take 4 glasses and teapots away. Let’s say it was a bit cramped. The waitresses although were accommodating when we asked for something, it was all very disorganised and messy. The bill came....£90.something (remember we’ve had bar drinks) - we were expecting £50ish.... The waitress had added the deal on twice - again genuine mistake, but the response was “oh, I’ll have to get a manager to void it off”. The manager did, but no apology and to be honest he looked annoyed he’d had to do it.So overall, the food was lovely, drinks were drinks but the service let the experience down....I’m still trying to work out what was ‘odd’ about the afternoon tea and I just hope it’s not supposed to be the service. We won’t return I’m afraid.

Myself and three friends got together for a Christmas catch up, we booked a table for 5pm. The restaurant was emptying when we arrived but we were put on the table nearest the kitchen with the door opening constantly, we were told that we arrived to late for the afternoon tea menu and to early for the evening menu, our food choice was VERY limited. We asked for a jug of tap water that never arrived. I would not recommend this place to anyone!!!!!!

I visited here for Afternoon tea with my mum. We ordered one standard afternoon tea and one connoisseurs afternoon tea and shared both. The savoury plate served with the connoisseurs afternoon tea was just an odd combination of food. Hot mini samosas, cold sausage rolls, salami, Parma ham, olives, veg crisps then a random dollop of sour cream and another of piccalilli with 2 hunks of Brie - but nothing to go with them...We then had the sandwiches which were stale on the edges implying they had been standing out for some time. The fillings were bland and the pickle with the cheese was odd.The scones were very dense in texture but tasted nice.We next had a chocolate moose that was unremarkable. The remaining cakes were so so but the sponge was a tray bake Victoria sponge so missing the elegance of other traditional teas. Overall it wasn’t worth the £44 it cost in total. Our waitress was lovely so the stars are for her and not the food!

Having eaten afternoon tea here previously, we booked sunday lunch. Nice relaxed atmosphere and not too rushed this time. I had the soup which was delicious, we all had roasts which came perfectly cooked, crispy roasties and cauliflower cheese! At £12 each this was a steal. My sister ordered a caramel tart dessert with yoghurt which apparently was divine (but I was too full!) will revisit on return to Chester

After waiting about 10 minutes to catch the waitresses attention we informed her that we would like a full bottle of water, to which she replied that she hadn't realised it wasn't full...- I only wish we'd got up and left then..

Tasting menu was extremely good value for money, we were full before desserts came and had to cancel the cheese course! Venison, Scallop and Lamb were particular highlights, but the best dish was the artichoke truffle dish before main course, was incredible! Must go!

We were looking for somewhere just a little bit special for an afternoon tea catch up of friends from opposite sides of the world; we were so pleased we chose Cultivated. On a summer’s day, the bright and breezy garden theme of the eating area at the rear of the hotel was perfect, with lots of glass providing both natural light and views outdoors, including blue sky through the high windows. It’s a very pleasant space, clean and modern but with real personality. We had made a booking for the five of us and the table was all ready for us. We all chose the cultivated afternoon tea - yes, the largest option! Two of us went for the vegetarian option. Everything came out on both the usual tiered plates and with some of the sweet options on separate platters. The plates, cups and saucers were mismatched with lots of variety. There were several different sandwiches - tasty and fresh. Extras like olives, cheeses and meats made for a good starter - we enjoyed them with the glasses of Prosecco we began with. With so many treats, we lingered over our afternoon tea; this was no problem and even after all the other tables had long been vacated, the staff never hurried us along. It’s a quiet area of the hotel and great for conversation. Highly recommended.

After visiting with family for afternoon tea, we decided to give the restaurant a try. We LOVED the style of the menu, it allowed us all to try something and catered so well for all of us. In particular the two stand out dishes was the pork with lots of bits (including pigs head which I’ve never tried, and was reluctant but delicious!) and the lemon dessert (highly recommend to finish!) Service was professional yet personal, we will be revisiting to stay in the hotel.

The food is excellent as is the service, we dined on NYE as well for their 4 course dinner and this was served fresh and hot despite the restaurant being full to capacity. They even catered for a fish allergy & a veggie right at the last minute with no fuss or hesitatation, the waiter even remebered this the following day without prompting which was a great touch.

It’s been a while since I’ve visited this place and during that time there’s been a revamp with a new chef & menu so I was keen to see what it offered. The décor & laid out are attractive but unfortunately the place lacked any atmosphere as just 2 tables were occupied on the Thursday evening we visited. Service by Ramy was excellent – very helpful and got the timings just right. The menu is called “odd plates” and is based on ingredient source rather than traditional courses. Some of the options can be taken as a small or large portion which is a nice feature that you don’t often see. Menu options for me were fine but my picky wife struggled with the choice. The food presentation is stunning – up there with some of the best restaurants. We particularly liked our mains (venison & sea bream) which were really good. Other plates were a bit so so eg my mackerel starter lacked flavour & the frangipane tart was a little boring. Nevertheless the mains were good enough & different enough to warrant another go in the future. I just hope it has more atmosphere next time.

Came to Oddfellows with friends celebrating a hen doo. We were seated outside in a booth ready for a private BBQ. For £25 I do not believe this was really value for money. But it was different. We had some beers and wine on the table on ice. Which would be served to us when requested. However I think the "private BBQ" let this down. We were not served from an outside BBQ as told. The food was brought out in metal serving dishes which had been brought from the kitchens. We then helped ourselves to this food (1 burger, 1 chicken kebab, fries and a bowl of salad) I can see that this can be seen as a good idea, and something different. But I do not believe it is worth the money for a burger, fries and salad with a beer. The overall atmosphere and surroundings were very nice though, so I would recommend Oddfellows as a place to visit if planning a night out around Chester.

We booked the hotel on recommendation initially and were quite pleased with the price in comparison to other places we have stayed in chester. The hotel is very nice and the little extras are a nice touch. The room was very clean and the staff were welcoming and happy to help. The room (14) was unlike anywhere we have stayed before almost open plan including bathroom and shower area separated only by a glass partition. This feature was fine as it was only my wife and myself. The room was well set out, spacious and clean. The room included a fridge, a safe, Nespresso machine and free light breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this ideally located boutique hotel. We booked through mr and Mrs Smith and received two free cocktails so yet another added perk. We were left for 20 minutes before drinks order taken and had to go back to the restaurant otherwise I think we would be still waiting. As far as the Restaurant goes it was poor.. I can't blame the individual waitress she was on her own and tried her best to be polite etc but the food fell far short of the previous reviews. All the food was warm instead of hot. The menu was good with interesting choices and the food was well cooked and fresh. The staff were very friendly and helpful. One of our party ordered lamb and it was explained that it is normally cooked fairly rare. She was happy with this but when it turned up she felt that it was rather rarer than she had anticipated. The fact that she hadn't eaten her lamb was spotted by the waiter who was very concerned and immediately offered a free desert. We felt that this was a very nice and unexpected gesture as they had explained that the lamb would be rare and she had chosen it despite this.

Considering how fabulous the website looks for Oddfellows, we were obviously really looking forward to our afternoon tea here. I had a voucher for Christmas and was visiting with 2 friends, anticipating an afternoon tea experience. On arrival at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, the whole place was packed out, with everyone it seems having afternoon tea, so it’s a popular event here. It was VERY loud with 3 x large groups of hen doo’s. We were put in the far corner of the garden room, where we all had to then lean over the table to hear each other speak. The table and chairs were basic but nothing otherwise wrong with the them, no tablecloth so a bare table with 3 plain white cups and saucers with plain white napkins. The sugar bowl was sugar lumps in individual plastic packets. The service was good and we were served a cocktail, albeit dull (A splash of Odd), and our tea quite quickly and the afternoon tea followed soon after. We asked to move tables as we just couldn’t Have a normal level of conversation but there were no other tables available. The afternoon tea of sandwich’s, scones and tiny cakes was more than disappointing. Poor, dried sandwiches, egg, fatty ham and lettuce, cheese and chutney and a chicken number. One scone each (they turned out delicious though -it’s the only saving grace!) a tiny lemon meringue, a small chocolate orange square and a small Victoria sponge square......for £18.95 per person. All served up on plain white plates, our tea was in plain canteen style silver teapots. The other tables we saw, did have the expected mismatched cups, saucers and plates and teapots that had failed to reach our table that apparently makes Oddfellows ‘odd’. We mentioned to the waitress that we were disappointed and then the Manager did come over. We expressed our disappointment to him in way of the whole way the afternoon tea was presented and the lack of abundance food wise. He was most helpful and offered us extra sandwiches, which we refused, extra scones, again refused and finally a bottle of Prosecco, also refused. We refused these offers because we were already very let down by now and just wanted to eat up, leave and put it down to a bad experience and would never go again or recommend the place. He said he took on board our feedback, but since reading Tripadvisor I don’t think they are heeding any of the feedback given to them before our experience yesterday! The manager did waive the bill, which we neither asked for or expected him to do, but he at least acknowledged our complaint seriously, which we commended with a tip for service. Overpriced and under exceeded expectation, based on the overly marketed website.

Just had the most amazing lunch with a girlfriend. The food was tremendous and the service wonderful (helped by the fact we were the only ones in as it was after the normal lunchtime period). We ordered a bottle of Proseco which turned out to be £25. It was the cheapest Proseco on the wine list so just be warned. The decor was amazing too. Lots of stair climbing - to get into the hotel and once in. Such an old building, apparently a lift cannot be installed. Recently had a party at Oddfellows we had booked months in advance as we were a large party. We had a few dietary requirements for vegetarians, nut allergy and religious dietary requirements. We ordered the afternoon tea and sent several emails stating the dietary requirements. Only to find when the food came out no one had said anything to us about what was on the afternoon teas, we actually had a vegetarian eat a chicken sandwich! As you served this as what only can be described as ‘mush’ and it looked like an egg sandwich. We were served tea with no milk, I had to find someone to ask for this basic need. We also had one person not arrive (we had already paid in full for them) but you only brought out 17 afternoon teas instead of the 18 bought. Staff were lazy, I’m sorry they were. Will not be coming back if this is how you treat people with dietary needs (the nut allergy could have caused a horrible reaction they couldn’t eat half of the cakes) and religious requirements. Just awful behaviour from Oddfellows.

Our group (10) had afternoon tea and whilst the service was first rate, the food was average at best. Around half of us had the savoury tea, which swapped the cakes and fruit scone for mini burgers, sausages, scotch eggs and cheese scones. All of those were eaten (bar the cheese scones), most of the cakes were left. The cakes were a triumph of form over function; they looked fantastic – a work of art even. Pity about the taste.

Booked and paid a deposit for a party of 8 for a special occasion. Specifically asked for the "Padded Cell" as it was to accommodate a small gathering, also including a friend with disabilities. Paid an £80 deposit to secure the booking.

My wife and I had a day out in Chester and had heard about Oddfellows. We called in around 12:30pm without a booking and were offered a very nice table looking into their secret garden. We had tempura prawns and chicken liver parfait to start. Really tasty. We then both had cod with a side salad and it was excellent. A nice bottle of Sauvignon and some sparkling water too. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and we had a superb meal. Highly recommended. A lovely place to have a delicious lunch.

Went to Oddfellows for a meal and this was our first visit. Very dissapointed, the service was just ok, the food was just ok. Our food was not very hot at all and had it not been for the people on the next table complaining about the cold food, then I would have but didn't want it to look like I was jumping in on their complaint. We always look, forward to desert but that was very basic. We spent approximately £100 on the meal and wine and came out feeling it was not money well spent.

Lovely large room, I've stayed in this hotel before and this room is definitely bigger giving the room a lot more air which is great. There's three different cupboards.. 'use me' which includes coffee, tea, a kettle, prosecco and wine glasses.. this is all complimentary. Then there's an 'eat me' and 'drink me' this is all an extra charge for example a vodka and Coke is £9.50 so very expensive. Very helpful staff, I wish I knew the girls name to give a thank you to who was on reception. (09.10.17) This hotel is completely wow.. the photos do not do it justice and I will definitely be returning for the 3rd time. The garden/bar area is beautiful and can only imagine how it would look in the summer. Thank you Oddfellows for the second time :)

I booked Oddfellows for a hen party, pre races, Champagne Brunch. I thought that this would be a really special way to start the day for the bride to be but this was definitely not the case! We were sat in a very strange through way area of the restaurant where customers had to pass to get to various areas and where the waiting staff frequently hung about when they were at a loose end. It was next to the back door so was also cold! Three breakfasts arrived and were placed on the table, the next three that arrived were wrong and taken away again, no-one came back so the first three began to eat, quickly realising that the food was cold, parts of their breakfast never arrived (toast, beans etc.) When the other breakfasts eventually arrived it became apparent that the first three were never intended for our table at all! Where finished our food, no one cleared the table for some time so there was quite some mess! One waiter apologised and brought us free drinks however whilst we were finishing these it became apparent that they wanted us to leave as the table was needed for another party. There was nowhere to go in the bar so we stayed until we had finished our drinks but we're made to feel uncomfortable for it as waiters began to hang around us! I was looking for a luxury brunch and this was definitely not it!

I booked this for an 11 years old birthday. Whilst it wasn't a party per se, there were 10 children. Oddfellows staff were fab and really made it special for them. Nothing was too much trouble. They gave us a private room for 2 hours and my daughter loved it. I have told everyone how fab it was. Highly recommend.

We've eaten at Oddfellows several times over the years and loved it every time. It was my first choice to book for a meal for my 40th birthday with friends. We'd left 1 hour and 1/2 to eat, which we thought would be ample, as I'd booked a table in a cocktail bar for afterwards. It took a while for our order to be taken, no big deal I thought. However the food took 30 mins to arrive, my husband had to ask where it was. The portion sizes were absolutely minuscule. My belly pork was tiny as was the sea bass a friend ordered. We had two sides to share, while the food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented there just wasn't enough (I'm a tiny 5ft with a small appetite!) I would have loved to have ordered a dessert, however we simply didn't have time. The bill took 15 minutes before we could get anyone's attention. I was offered a glass of prosecco to make up for the delay as my husband had politely complained by now because we were now so rushed. I had to decline because we were due at the cocktail bar. 3 cocktails later, I was absolutely famished! Not what you'd expect for a £14 main and sides on top! Huge shame, always enjoyed eating here previously.

Visited the reastraunt at Oddfellows for the early bird menu and straight away was met with outstanding professional service, we enjoyed a glass of champagne in the bar and then went through to the reastraunt and enjoyed more of the fantastic service and some of the best food I've tried for a long time certainly in Chester! Hats off to the chief! Wow really knockout food, fresh, well presented and cooked perfectly! So good it's brought me out of TripAdvisor retirement to share this review. 5 stars Oddfellows.

We visited Chester for an afternoon and could not resist having afternoon tea here. It is 5 minutes from the city walls and tucked away on the first floor with beautiful tasteful décor inside. We were seated inside but they have a lovely courtyard area for dining as well. There was a special offer for 2 for afternoon tea with Prosecco being served. Cakes, scones and sandwiches were lovely. The waiter came to check on us several times but was unobtrusive. There was a good selection of teas. Perhaps these should be served as loose leaf tea rather than tea bags but this is a very minor point.

Been coming to Oddfellows for about 7 years now. Food and drink is always nice, but for me it's all about the environment. The Secret Garden is a lovely place to eat, drink and chill with friends. Four of us visited today for a dear friend's birthday and did the Sparkling Sunday deal - 3 courses and a glass of Prosecco for £25. For an upmarket place, this is a really good deal. Even better when the food is top notch. And it was today! Delicious starters, probably the best Roast Beef dinner I've ever eaten in a restaurant - loads of beautiful, tasty rare beef, plus extra gravy (sorry, 'jus') when asked for, absolutely superb. Topped off with delicious cocktails and the best Sticky Toffee Pudding I've had in years. All in the Secret Garden - such a lovely, lovely place.

I have been looking to find the best place for a Burger in Chester and have visited many places. While there are one or two burgers that are aguablly better then the burger deal at Oddfellows, i have to say you can not beat it for quality and value. A burger, chunky chips and beer/wine is a great deal for under £10. I visit a couple of times a months and is its nice to have a relaxing Lunch. Note Deal is available Monday to Friday.

We recently visited Oddfellows to celebrate a 40th birthday having spent the day at The Races. We had a lovely area out in the garden to ourselves where we enjoyed a delicious BBQ (this had to be cooked inside due to safety reason as the garden area was packed with tipsy race goers!) The food was delicious and plentiful and service very good.

We stayed in Oddfellows 2 bedded apartment, the space, design, outlay was stunning, the equipment was quality, massive entrance area with wide staircase, huge open plan living room/ kitchen, 2 huge bedrooms both with en suite, a separate toilet, and laundry room. Just around the corner from Oddfellows Hotel where you book in and get your key to your apartment. Also a very short walk into Chester centre. We will definetly be back.

We couldn't work out the logic in this place. A busy bar with few available seats meant the group moved outside into the garden as 11pm approached. We then got moved on, just as we'd got our drinks back from the bar and got seated. They may have wanted to reduce the amount of outside noise for hotel guests and neighbours but it just seemed unfriendly and rude to usher people inside with bouncers as if we were an unruly mob.

I celebrated a special birthday last week and to mark the occasion invited my girlfriends to join me around the circular table in the Mad Hatter's tearoom at Oddfellows. We were 17 in all and we were well looked after from the moment we arrived at the Secret Garden courtyard for drinks. Serge, the Operations Manager introduced himself and ensured everything was carried out to a high standard. Olive, our server was a favourite with everyone as she was helpful, friendly and professional. The attention to detail could not be faulted and the food was excellent and beautifully presented. I would also like to thank Grace and Debbie who as Events staff helped me to make the booking, made suggestions and carried out my requests. I would highly recommend this venue for a celebration.

Oddfellows was a last minute cancellation as our original venue cancelled. There were 14 of us and the team there laid us a fantastic table and catered for us well from start to finish. The lady that greeted us and took our first drinks order was very knowledgeable about cocktail menu, guiding us all through with expertise. The drinks matched in quality - well made, garnished and presented with care.

I ate here early April with a friend. It was lunch time and we ordered from the A'La Carte menu. We both had the Duck to start which was really nice and fell from the bone.I had the Roasted Butternut Squash for my main which was the nicest main I have ever had! The only downside was it was very small but if your looking for quality over quantity then I highly recommend.

The Woodland is close to Ellemere Port Hospital and serves for much of the day. Usual "Stonehouse" fayre. Very pleasant member of staff who checked for allergies and carried our drinks to our table as I am dodgy on my feet. We took advantage of the offer of two meals for £11.75 from a reduced menu. Pleasant food, but nothing special, except the price.

Birthday treat for afternoon tea. Put us in a room on our own so I asked to be moved to sit with everyone else dining...which they did. Sandwiches brought out on saucer sized plate then another plate with cakes and scones. I asked why not served on 3 tier cake stand as she gave some poor excuse as to cakes might melt so they don't use them hower other diners had them! They forgot to bring the strawberries and cream and champagne we ordered. Waitress was moody and unhelpful and we had to go into bar for a cocktail as they were now shutting!! Huge amount of money for poor food and service. Never been back!
