The Architect in Cheshire West and Chester

I cannot thank the Architect enough! We had one of my friend’s hen party dinners with you and we were so impressed. I dropped off a few decorations the day before and when we arrived, we were shown to our private room and everything was perfect! The staff went above and beyond. As always, the food and drinks were amazing and such great quality. Thank you for a perfect evening!

The atmosphere and service were exceptional. Although the food was great, there is room to improve the presentation.

We have been here many times over the years and we always loved it. However, recently we were disappointed. There is a good atmosphere, especially outside on a sunny day. Although we felt like the quality of the food was average, so not as good as we remembered

Great food, superb atmosphere and location!

Eating with a group of colleagues, pre-booked. On arrival we were allocated a table way too small for the party size, then when we asked if we could relocate to a larger table or put two together it was clearly too much trouble for the staff and we ended up rearranging furniture ourselves, despite the restaurant being relatively quiet at that time of day. The majority of staff seemed like they would rather be anywhere else, and the level of customer service continued to be poor and lacklustre throughout our visit. We ate and drank less than we would likely have done, and left feeling throughly unimpressed. Do better.

Fabulous food, gorgeous setting, great and super quick service, fair prices. What more can you ask for?! We had Sunday roasts and they were cooked perfectly-still dreaming on the beef! Children had burgers and declared them delicious! The mini desserts and hot drinks were the perfect, indulgent end to a fabulous meal. The chocolate brownie was amongst the best I’ve had and I’m quite a connoisseur 🙊🤣

We have passed this pub before when visiting Chester. We decided to book a table for dinner . Our experience was excellent. We loved the interior of this lovely house. The staff were very professional and pleasant . Our food was good . It was quite busy but we didn’t have to wait very long in between courses. The weather was so nice that we decided to return for drinks the next night. It was really busy and people were queuing right outside for the bar . A massive shout out to the staff behind the bar. The queues disappeared really quickly . We sat outside enjoying the views in the sunshine. Will definitely return again .

Lovely venue with perfect atmosphere - great selection of wines and fab staff. A must visit!

Just spent 2 wonderful days in Chester and came across this beautiful pub by accident what a wonderful place this is service and food excellent plenty of space to sit and eat outside if you want or plenty of tables inside the outside also has heaters which we used as it became very cold quite quickly once the sun went down lovely meal last night to celebrate our 48 th wedding anniversary definitely going again when back in Chester x

Went for drinks on a Thursday evening. Was exceptionally busy due to nice weather but served quickly and prices reasonable. Lovely location and lots of outside seating

My best friend, a vegetarian, and I met at The Architect for lunch on Saturday afternoon. The place was hopping busy - definitely make a reservation if you plan to go here! - but otherwise than that, it was great! The food was very good, and there was a good selection for vegetarians. Both of us had to stop ourselves from licking our plates! I especially loved the tea set! The only downside is the very limited on-site parking. Otherwise, I highly recommend this restaurant/bar!

Visited when on a day trip from Birmingham, a fantastic spot opposite Chester race course. There is plenty of seating both inside and outside with a good range of beer's. Will be back in the summer ☀️

We celebrated a 60th birthday in one of the private dining rooms. The staff were so so helpful and went above and beyond to make sure the night was a great one from start to finish. Nothing was too much to ask, the celebration and food was great.

Bit disappointed the architect is usually a nice place to go but as soon as we walked in staff behind the bar weren’t really welcoming just cold glares, the food was ok until I found a hard object in my food idk if it was plastic or a bone but once brought to the waiters attention (discretely) he had a bad attitude about it and made us feel worse and asked us if we wanted a free drink rather than offering so we declined and left after our mains. My boyfriend and I work in a hotel and we felt the service wasn’t very good and we left feeling awkward.

The guys that looked after us did a really nice job and it made our special occasion for a big birthday really a nice time.Food was delicious and we especially enjoyed being able to have our own area.We would be really happy to come back, the only thing I would say is a downside is the small carpark as some had to park over at Linenhall.But on the whole, friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere

Fantastic food and very prompt service considering it was so busy. We hired a private upstairs space for a baby shower and the room was beautiful. A super big round table and very friendly and efficient staff! Compliments to the chef- wonderful food!! And we are vegetarian and vegan and had great options. Thank you for a lovely afternoon. Definitely recommend a visit. ☺️

Fantastic venue to celebrate our wedding

This is simply my favourite bar to visit whenever im in Chester. It's such a great place to spend some time and just relax. It was cold on the afternoon we visited so it was great to just plonk ourselves under the heaters and complimentary blankets and just enjoy some down time.

What a hidden gem. After walking round Chester we stumbled across this superb pub. Friendly staff. Amazing food. Great for sitting outside they have heaters and supply blankets if you’re chilly.

We dropped-in without a reservation, early evening midweek and we were able to get a table for dinner. The staff were friendly, the decor nice and the atmosphere pleasant. The also appears to a good range of beers available and the food was fine.

Truly excellent. Highly recommend. We were a walk in and managed to get us a table. Food is another level and reasonably priced considering the quality. Will come again

Just returned from early dinner at The Architect in chester, a really poor experience and without question the worse food we have had in many years. The one redeeming feature was the service which can't be faulted. The food included chips not cooked and desert still part frozen. Staff were very apologetic but this does not compensate for the poor quality, we will not be returning and would not recommend to anyone.

This is our favourite pub in Chester by far. We booked for two consecutive nights (we were staying in Chester) and our experience on the first night was a little disappointing. Their cellar is being refurbished, so no real ales. Fair enough, but, as far as I recall, no mention of this in their frequent emails (am on their mailing list) or on their website. Keg session IPA was OK but about 5°C too cold More importantly, the mushroom tagliatelle (which I had) was bland and was a very small portion. My wife had 'Sunday lunch' which was good apart from the cold, dry Yorkshire pudding (probably cooked at lunchtime, and certainly cooked in advance as it arrived only 7-8 mins after she ordered it). They asked us 'how is the meal'? So we told them. They then gave us free puddings (which were very good) and a free round of drinks ... and thus somewhat redeemed themselves. The second night was much better. Sausage and mash, and cheese and onion pie were both excellent

Always a delight. The staff are always excellent, as is the food. They are very consistent. I take my kids every Christmas, and they never let me dow. Superb.

Disappointing food for the price. Since being sold this chain has increased prices and reduced the menu options. £18 for 3 average sausages and a scoop of mash is too much.

I gave this place 5* about a year ago. Tonight it was rubbish. The food had that uniform look of food prepared elsewhere and reheated. The chips looked like oven chips. And it all looked like it had been dumped on a plate by McDonald's. Our little group has resolved not to return. Last year the place was packed, this year it was deserted.

This is the fourth Brunning and Price establishment we have visited and they never fail to deliver a good experience. This was a visit on a city break so unfortunately will not be a regular place we visit, which is a shame.

Fantastic freehouse, we went just for drinks. Sat outside under the dome with ample heaters, excellent service from bar and security staff who open the door as you go in. Highly recommended

We had a very enjoyable Christmas lunch on Sunday at the architects ,We booked a private room with 14 family members dining ,we had various starters from fish cakes to beetroot followed by a traditional turkey lunch with all the trimmings all delicious then pudding and cheese to follow friendly and helpful staff and good value so if your looking for a Christmas lunch I’d recommend the Architect.

Never worried about visiting the architect a go to place with friends and family . Love the atmosphere, the staff and the food . We did overstay our time but the staff said we could keep the table until the next group came. Thanks

2 members of my party have ended up with food poisoning, couldn't enter until bang on the booking time. The waitress rolled her eyes at us when we asked for the Xmas set menu. The general Xmas feel of the restaurant was lovely.

Having been a loyal and regular customer at The Architect since it first opened, I have to report that the current female manager is probably the worst I have ever encountered. Avoid the place at all costs until she is hopefully replaced.. No Christmas spirit whatsoever.

A second visit for us, coming from Liverpool it's been awhile, but very pleased to confirm it was as just as good as previous. The place was very busy with a nice atmosphere . We hadn't made a reservation, but were swiftly welcomed nonetheless by a gentleman behind the bar and after a quick check, given a table straight away ( albeit on the proviso we had 2 hours before the table had been booked, which was more than enough time for us). Generally a younger staff , all were very friendly, smiling and interacting with us (although I guess it could have been because of our dog! ) even if they were only passing our table. Service was swift, the drinks quickly brought to our table and being a freezing day out, we both opted for "good pub grub " and had steak pie with chips ( rather than the mash ) both were excellent , meals came with some veg and were well presented and very filling. All the meals being served looked amazing with lots of roast dinners being brought out. An added bonus was my Guinness which was perfect !! Overall a thoroughly enjoyable lunch and we would happily recommend

My friends and I were visiting Chester for the weekend. We booked the Architect purely based on online recommendations. We were delighted! The food was delicious. The venue was beautiful and stunningly decorated for Christmas. The service was friendly, helpful and efficient. (A young lady training to be a paediatric nurse) . I am lactose intolerant and she was helpful and reassuring about my food choices, speaking to the chef). There was a lovely ambiance but we were still able to hear one another’s conversation. We loved it!

Great place, quality of food and service is very good, will make a point of going again The decor & atmosphere is great, seems to have two / three sections, aimed at different market, I.e. lively side with bar for younger customers, we went in the restaurant area for quieter eating it was really nicely presented decor wise, quite elegant 😊 they also have an outside area

Fantastic pub, great location by the racecourse, beer garden is perfect in the summer, inside is cosy in the winter. Good drinks selection, food was excellent. One of my favourite pubs, always a good experience here!

What a great upmarket gastropub! Perfect for next to the racecourse and well worth the visit! The barman gave a great service with a couple of tasters of the craft beers in quite unique tester glasses!! That was appreciated as I did choose a beer at £7 a pint! Lol A great place to drink and looks like a wonderful place to eat - especially for an upmarket business lunch etc. Fabulous!

As always, superb food, served by well presented wait-staff in a convivial atmosphere. Would recommend this fine eatery.

The only slight downside was that the toilets are up a lot of stairs. There is a disabled toilet on the ground floor, but we need to ask the (very helpful) staff. For the quality of the food, the atmosphere and the staff I thought it was really good value.

Great restaurant with super staff

Went for lunch with a party of 4 today and everything was fine except for the food. Very poor for a Brunning & Price pub and nowhere near the standard of the Grosvenor Arms, Aldford.

Visited for a drink on the 18/10/24, surprised to see so many dogs in the place, especially when people are eating! As a couple were leaving, their dog cocked it's leg right by a post by the bar and urinated! No problem with places allowing pets, but maybe keep them outside, not for me, I'm afraid!

I love the decor of this pub, the old residence of the architect that designed the courts. I had a lovely soup to start (although had a few vegetable fibres in the soup), followed by the pork belly which was mostly ok, but the crackling was a real let down - how can you serve pork belly without proper crackling?? which suggests foods all delivered in bulk and simply heated up in kitchen which, for a relatively prestigious feel, was a disappointment. But overall enjoyed my visit.

Perfect spot for drinks after work. Excellent terrace with views over the race course. Very popular and place was buzzing when we were there. Bit of a queue at the bar.

This is a lovely location, probably one of the best in their chain. Food is excellent and the smaller dining area makes it seem more than a pub.

Went for Sunday lunch recently. It was OK but nothing special. My vegetable side included half a carrot and one sugar snap pea pod :) TBF, very busy, child friendly so lots of families. Probably leave it a while before I go back as there are so many restaurants in Chester.

Had a bad experience in a Brunning and Price pub in Shropshire earlier this year and had given the chain a wide berth in consequence. Risked the Architect and faith has been restored. Food, beer and service all excellent.

Top notch food. But it's the experience and atmosphere made by the staff that sells it. One of the best places for a good family meal in Chester
