Fantastic food and very prompt service considering it was so busy. We hired a private upstairs space for a baby shower and the room was beautiful. A super big round table and very friendly and efficient staff! Compliments to the chef- wonderful food!! And we are vegetarian and vegan and had great options. Thank you for a lovely afternoon. Definitely recommend a visit. ☺️

Fantastic venue to celebrate our wedding

This is simply my favourite bar to visit whenever im in Chester. It's such a great place to spend some time and just relax. It was cold on the afternoon we visited so it was great to just plonk ourselves under the heaters and complimentary blankets and just enjoy some down time.

What a hidden gem. After walking round Chester we stumbled across this superb pub. Friendly staff. Amazing food. Great for sitting outside they have heaters and supply blankets if you’re chilly.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. A bit on the pricey side but you get what you pay for and we always have a lovely meal here. Clearly labelled gluten-free options too.

We dropped-in without a reservation, early evening midweek and we were able to get a table for dinner. The staff were friendly, the decor nice and the atmosphere pleasant. The also appears to a good range of beers available and the food was fine.

Truly excellent. Highly recommend. We were a walk in and managed to get us a table. Food is another level and reasonably priced considering the quality. Will come again

Just returned from early dinner at The Architect in chester, a really poor experience and without question the worse food we have had in many years. The one redeeming feature was the service which can't be faulted. The food included chips not cooked and desert still part frozen. Staff were very apologetic but this does not compensate for the poor quality, we will not be returning and would not recommend to anyone.

This is our favourite pub in Chester by far. We booked for two consecutive nights (we were staying in Chester) and our experience on the first night was a little disappointing. Their cellar is being refurbished, so no real ales. Fair enough, but, as far as I recall, no mention of this in their frequent emails (am on their mailing list) or on their website. Keg session IPA was OK but about 5°C too cold More importantly, the mushroom tagliatelle (which I had) was bland and was a very small portion. My wife had 'Sunday lunch' which was good apart from the cold, dry Yorkshire pudding (probably cooked at lunchtime, and certainly cooked in advance as it arrived only 7-8 mins after she ordered it). They asked us 'how is the meal'? So we told them. They then gave us free puddings (which were very good) and a free round of drinks ... and thus somewhat redeemed themselves. The second night was much better. Sausage and mash, and cheese and onion pie were both excellent

Always a delight. The staff are always excellent, as is the food. They are very consistent. I take my kids every Christmas, and they never let me dow. Superb.

Lovely place, we only had drinks but will defo be returing for food as it looked and smelt delish. Staff were lovely and friendly. Outside area looks like it will be beautiful during the nicer weather

Great location, friendly staff and easy to communicate with, great variety of drinks, great outdoor area, dog friendly. The food I wasn't impressed, the burger was average even with the extra topping, the Sunday roast was ok .

I gave this place 5* about a year ago. Tonight it was rubbish. The food had that uniform look of food prepared elsewhere and reheated. The chips looked like oven chips. And it all looked like it had been dumped on a plate by McDonald's. Our little group has resolved not to return. Last year the place was packed, this year it was deserted.

This is the fourth Brunning and Price establishment we have visited and they never fail to deliver a good experience. This was a visit on a city break so unfortunately will not be a regular place we visit, which is a shame.

Fantastic freehouse, we went just for drinks. Sat outside under the dome with ample heaters, excellent service from bar and security staff who open the door as you go in. Highly recommended

We had a very enjoyable Christmas lunch on Sunday at the architects ,We booked a private room with 14 family members dining ,we had various starters from fish cakes to beetroot followed by a traditional turkey lunch with all the trimmings all delicious then pudding and cheese to follow friendly and helpful staff and good value so if your looking for a Christmas lunch I’d recommend the Architect.

Never worried about visiting the architect a go to place with friends and family . Love the atmosphere, the staff and the food . We did overstay our time but the staff said we could keep the table until the next group came. Thanks

2 members of my party have ended up with food poisoning, couldn't enter until bang on the booking time. The waitress rolled her eyes at us when we asked for the Xmas set menu. The general Xmas feel of the restaurant was lovely.

Fabulous food and service was very good. Had roast beef dinner and it was cooked to perfection.

Having been a loyal and regular customer at The Architect since it first opened, I have to report that the current female manager is probably the worst I have ever encountered. Avoid the place at all costs until she is hopefully replaced.. No Christmas spirit whatsoever.

My friends and I were visiting Chester for the weekend. We booked the Architect purely based on online recommendations. We were delighted! The food was delicious. The venue was beautiful and stunningly decorated for Christmas. The service was friendly, helpful and efficient. (A young lady training to be a paediatric nurse) . I am lactose intolerant and she was helpful and reassuring about my food choices, speaking to the chef). There was a lovely ambiance but we were still able to hear one another’s conversation. We loved it!

A second visit for us, coming from Liverpool it's been awhile, but very pleased to confirm it was as just as good as previous. The place was very busy with a nice atmosphere . We hadn't made a reservation, but were swiftly welcomed nonetheless by a gentleman behind the bar and after a quick check, given a table straight away ( albeit on the proviso we had 2 hours before the table had been booked, which was more than enough time for us). Generally a younger staff , all were very friendly, smiling and interacting with us (although I guess it could have been because of our dog! ) even if they were only passing our table. Service was swift, the drinks quickly brought to our table and being a freezing day out, we both opted for "good pub grub " and had steak pie with chips ( rather than the mash ) both were excellent , meals came with some veg and were well presented and very filling. All the meals being served looked amazing with lots of roast dinners being brought out. An added bonus was my Guinness which was perfect !! Overall a thoroughly enjoyable lunch and we would happily recommend

Great place, quality of food and service is very good, will make a point of going again The decor & atmosphere is great, seems to have two / three sections, aimed at different market, I.e. lively side with bar for younger customers, we went in the restaurant area for quieter eating it was really nicely presented decor wise, quite elegant 😊 they also have an outside area

Fantastic pub, great location by the racecourse, beer garden is perfect in the summer, inside is cosy in the winter. Good drinks selection, food was excellent. One of my favourite pubs, always a good experience here!

What a great upmarket gastropub! Perfect for next to the racecourse and well worth the visit! The barman gave a great service with a couple of tasters of the craft beers in quite unique tester glasses!! That was appreciated as I did choose a beer at £7 a pint! Lol A great place to drink and looks like a wonderful place to eat - especially for an upmarket business lunch etc. Fabulous!

As always, superb food, served by well presented wait-staff in a convivial atmosphere. Would recommend this fine eatery.

The only slight downside was that the toilets are up a lot of stairs. There is a disabled toilet on the ground floor, but we need to ask the (very helpful) staff. For the quality of the food, the atmosphere and the staff I thought it was really good value.

Great restaurant with super staff

Went for lunch with a party of 4 today and everything was fine except for the food. Very poor for a Brunning & Price pub and nowhere near the standard of the Grosvenor Arms, Aldford.

Visited for a drink on the 18/10/24, surprised to see so many dogs in the place, especially when people are eating! As a couple were leaving, their dog cocked it's leg right by a post by the bar and urinated! No problem with places allowing pets, but maybe keep them outside, not for me, I'm afraid!

I love the decor of this pub, the old residence of the architect that designed the courts. I had a lovely soup to start (although had a few vegetable fibres in the soup), followed by the pork belly which was mostly ok, but the crackling was a real let down - how can you serve pork belly without proper crackling?? which suggests foods all delivered in bulk and simply heated up in kitchen which, for a relatively prestigious feel, was a disappointment. But overall enjoyed my visit.

Perfect spot for drinks after work. Excellent terrace with views over the race course. Very popular and place was buzzing when we were there. Bit of a queue at the bar.

This is a lovely location, probably one of the best in their chain. Food is excellent and the smaller dining area makes it seem more than a pub.

Went for Sunday lunch recently. It was OK but nothing special. My vegetable side included half a carrot and one sugar snap pea pod :) TBF, very busy, child friendly so lots of families. Probably leave it a while before I go back as there are so many restaurants in Chester.

Had a bad experience in a Brunning and Price pub in Shropshire earlier this year and had given the chain a wide berth in consequence. Risked the Architect and faith has been restored. Food, beer and service all excellent.

Lovely place with extensive indoor and outdoor seating. Good selection of beers and well kept ales. Really good pub style food, with friendly and efficient service. We would definitely visit again.

Just had the sea food linguine, which was devine, but there was not enough linguine in the dish, so I was not satisfied. This is a shame as pasta is not expensive and another cup full would have made the dish perfect. Not good value for money. Also it was a boiling hot day and every candle inside was lit which seemed like a waste?😮

Ordered fish and chips. Very few chips and the main problem was the very small size of the fish. I’ve experienced the same problem at other venues in this group. At £17 It should have been a lot better. I do not have a big appetite and was left still hungry . Two staff members asked the usual “was everything ok for you “. This is totally meaningless unless some redress is given.

Honestly one of the most bizarre experiences I’ve ever had in a restaurant. The service was exceptionally rude - taking the mickey out of our ability to work out the bill and how much each person owed as well as ripping Everton for being useless. Weird if you want a tip!!!

A great pub overlooking the famous racecourse, with friendly attentive staff, offering a wide selection of fine wines and beers, along with a delicious and varied food menu. We try and visit whenever we're in Chester. Happily recommend the Architect to all. Top tip : Book a table to avoid disappointment, especially on a weekend.

Great place to sit out in the sun, huge patio and garden. Unfortunately we did not eat but it looked really good. Large selection of drinks, Beers, wines and spirits.

Nice place and reasonable food for the price. Unfortunately the staff need some training were young and inexperienced. We waited quite a while to be served and on one occasion I was asked what drink I ordered and I had to show the waitress and I still got the wrong drink.

A very ornate, comfortable, and well planned establishment. It retains the classy features of a 'well to' do country house. It has a large, welll maintained garden with extensive outdoor seating with views across the racecourse.

Stopped here for an impromptu Sunday Lunch absolutely delicious. Great wine too.

I was sober so so caught the barman pouring slops in my pint so quickly asked for another beer which was much better. Good atmosphere as it was races day and with music on, was a good afternoon in the large garden

Excellent as usual. A really well run pub. We had two vegetarian and one roast on Sunday and there were 3 empty plates. Love the atmosphere inside and the gardens are simple and beautiful. Busy all the time we were there which is always a good sign. B and P are amazing and do wonderful things with their pubs.

Visiting the area and asked our host to recommend a location where we could buy her dinner. This was her choice. Service was friendly and swift. A celebration bottle of fizz was delivered but no offer to pour the contents, which would have been nice. All of us attending were 'guys' which was not offensive but as we offer a forest of grey hair probably over familiar. Food was very good and the bill inoffensive. We would go again, so all less than positive statements above did not put us off.

Organised lunch here for a special aniversary. Lovely, Victorian house on the edge of the city. A nice, busy. but not too noisy ambiance. Good, sensible length, menu, supported by a very much better then usual wine list ( Seem to use Tanners of Shrewsbury, so expect class) Excellent service with just the right amount of attention. Some while since my wife and I have had a "long lunch" and this just the place to have one. Very Enjoyable!

Came here for dinner and unfortunately found the food to be average. We'd heard really good things about the architect, so it may be that we just had a one-off bad experience, but the food we felt wasn't up to the hype. I went for the piri piri chicken burger. The chicken was cooked nicely but had zero piri piri flavour. At least I couldn't taste it at all. It also had the smallest amount of garlic mayo, which I just couldn't taste. The coleslaw was nice and very creamy. I put it on the burger, and unfortunately, due to no piri piri flavour coming though, it turned the burger into a creamy burger, which wasn't too pleasant. The fries were OK, but nothing special. My wife went for the ragu pasta. I tasted it too, and both of us felt there was too much sauce. More pasta was needed. The sauce was so acidic that it wasn't pleasant at all. We had a side of onion rings and have to say these were delicious. Definitely recommend them. Overall, with tip, we paid £60, which we felt was overpriced for what we got. The staff were very friendly and quite attentive, although we did need to wait quite a while at the start to get drinks, which was a little frustrating. I actually went looking for the staff to get the drinks ordered. The venue is lovely, really enjoyed being there. We may try again on the basis that we just made poor decisions, but given the number of places to eat in Chester, we aren't sure we'd go back.
