We were very disappointed with the food and waitress. 1. Wanted to order a vodka martini and was told I could only order their “special” which was a concoction of spices. When asked if I could just have vodka with a splash, I was told “no”. 2. The pizza oven wasn’t working which also included the garlic bread. 3. The food was served at volcanic heat. Literally bubbling, with steam rising a foot in the air. After waiting about 15 minutes to be eatable, we poured the lasagna on another plate and stirred for a few minutes. Unbelievably, the waitress told us it was correctly served. Way too many restaurants in Keswick to eat here.

Every time we visit, The Lanes Cafe is our go-to spot, without question. The ambiance is warm and inviting, making it the ideal setting for a casual meal or a relaxing coffee break. The menu offers a fantastic variety of dishes, all crafted with fresh ingredients and beautifully presented—especially the cakes and bakes A bonus is they offer a pay it forward scheme, which restored my faith in humanity. I particularly loved their afternoon tea, which is both flavorful and satisfying. The staff are friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re in the mood for a quick bite or a leisurely brunch, The Lanes Cafe is definitely a must-visit. Highly recommended!

Perfect stop for a coffee break - the view over the lake with bird feeders in front was great. The chairs in the lounge were very comfortable - best decaf coffee I have had. Looked at the menu and it was a shame that only a coffee stop. Did have a taste of the local beers!!

Having been disappointed at a Michelin Guide and a One Michelin star restaurant this week, our expectations on arrival were low. Make no mistake, the set up here is impressive, from the car park to the location on the banks of the Derwent (and a field of Alpacas thrown in), not to mention the fantastic building and facilities. The food definitely matched up to the surroundings. I had a tomato soup starter with bread and butter. The taste was great - not overly creamy, so the taste of the tomatoes was sufficiently strong. The main, a mushroom tagliatelle, was cooked to perfection with plenty of seasoning and lots of mushrooms. The perfect portion size as well- plentiful without being too much. My partner had the beef stew, which was also excellent. Finally, the vanilla cheesecake was exquisite. Sometimes, you find that they undercook or overcook the taste, but this was spot on. Fresh strawberries and strawberry ice cream accompanied, with the ice cream seemingly homemade. Unfortunately, the chef is leaving this week, having been there for 15 years, but we were reassured that he will be handing over to competent colleagues who trained under him. All in all an excellent experience, and we will be back.

Staff friendly, comfortable seating and excellent food. Three of us all ordered the mixed grill, it was a huge plate of food two of us ended up taking some home. Pork chop, lamb chop, gammon, steak, sausage etc and proper hand cut chips. The service was spot on.

We were staying here for 3 nights and had a meal in the restaurant the first night it was a special occasion my 25 years anniversary and slso my birthday . 3 of us ordered the steak but we had to wait for over 2 hours and it was so tough we couldn't cut it let stone eat it . We were refunded just the 3 steaks but the evening was ruined as it was nearly 10.00 by then and our meslwas booked for 7.15. ! As it was terrible weather the next night we thought we'd chance it again but we all had soup which was cold and the fish was just all batter with hardly sny fish inside . So disappointed as we booked here going by the reviews and thought it would be nice to not have to go out to eat .
