We had visited previously for a meal a few months ago but decided to stay for a 2 night break and we weren’t disappointed ! From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome. Our room was lovely with our own terrace. We dined there both evenings and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Sophie and the rest of the staff really looked after us and we’ll definitely be returning !

The hospality was first class, we were the only people having dinner but don’t let this put you off. Very quirky place but that is the beauty of the place. Good size portions the ravioli was tasty but pasta too thick making it tough the broth with it was very tasty but the addition of finely diced vegetables would be great. Smoked salmon roll first class. We had a chicken and a chuck steak I like my steak medium rare just as well as they don’t ask you. Sticky toffee pudding first rate as is the ice cream. Good coffee and wines.

We stayed at the hotel on Saturday night and decided to have dinner in the restaurant, after reading the reviews I wasn't expecting much, how wrong we were, we had the Scallops starter, I had Sea Bass, my wife had baked Cod for our mains and it was top quality, we have eaten in some of the best restaurants in this country and abroad and this was right up there if not better, hats off to the new Chef, brilliant work. Also a big thank you to Barry the hotel manager who works his socks off and looked after us.

Staff were so friendly, welcoming, bubbly and warm, they really made our experience when they were having a laugh and bantering with customers. The food was delicious, really good portion sizes and reasonably priced. Didn't have to wait long at all for service, drinks or food. We are so glad we decided to try this place before we left Cockermouth to return home. We even asked to take some scones with us for when we got home.

What a fabulous weekend at this hotel . Breakfast to die for and the evening meal on Saturday was some of the best food we have had absolutely fantastic. Hospitality both at breakfast and in the atmospheric cozy bar was great. Made us feel very welcome and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel. Thanks again all

An old village inn that has sadly seen better days. I’m giving it 2 stars purely because the owner was so friendly but the place itself felt dirty, stank of something that was akin to stale urine and was generally uncared for. A shame because it could be a nice place if some attention to detail was made. Not a chance I would go back until then.

The Lanes is an excellent cafe, offering reasonably priced meals and having a play area for small children, but it's even better if you have a dog. A variety of meals are available for dogs for £4.95 and there is a dog suitable ice cream for £2.95. I did see an old couple with a springer spaniel order a meal for their dog and the dog seemed to enjoiy it. As for meals for humans, The Lanes is still good, even if prices have jumped since I last visited in 2019. I enjoyed my scampi, chips and salad and the portions are very generous. Also they do a variety of breakfasts, cakes, children's meals and snacks that aren't too expensive. However, at the moment, the card reader is broken and they are only taking card payments.

The menu has deteriorated unfortunately from previous high standard . Chicken Caesar salad was just over cooked breaded chicken on a serving of salad with little dressing. The flat iron steak was not in a ciabatta as advertised and not as flavoursome as it always was on the previous menu. Skinny chips instead of chunky is I suppose a matter of taste but another step backwards in my opinion
