An old village inn that has sadly seen better days. I’m giving it 2 stars purely because the owner was so friendly but the place itself felt dirty, stank of something that was akin to stale urine and was generally uncared for. A shame because it could be a nice place if some attention to detail was made. Not a chance I would go back until then.

This is a great pub that deserves to be better known. We went for Wednesday Steak night. You need to book in advance as it is popular. No wonder when a great 10oz sirloin steak is £13. We hope to back next time we visit the Lakes.

Visited while camping. Went in as a couple without pre booking and luckily got seated on a busy Father’s Day. All the staff were so polite and welcoming. This pub is cosy and beautiful. We felt comfortable here and was just the meal needed after a long day hiking. The price in my opinion matches the food quality and quantities well and the wine was very tasty. Would recommend. Gluten-Free was available on lots of options.

Absolutely top notch. Having recently moved up to Wigton I wasn't sure of places to go for an evening meal. A couple of people recommended here for steak night and we're glad we visited. I booked a table and I'm glad I did as it soon got busy. From the outside and inside it appears as a traditional family run pub, the owner was super friendly. We ordered steak as Wednesdays are steak night, I wanted mine as well done as possible and my partner ordered medium rare, both meals were cooked to perfection. We both had the surf and turf - make sure you visit hungry. The portion sizes will not disappoint! Looking forward to visiting again! :)

I have only ever visited on a Wednesday which is steak night but every time I go I ask myself why I’ve left it so long in between visits. The value for money is outstanding, I always opt for the surf & turf, med/rare and for such a large piece of meat it is always cooked to perfection. Staff are friendly and as it’s such a small village pub there’s a great atmosphere. I almost don’t want to tell you how good it is incase I can’t get booked in on a Wednesday night again 😂

A couple of pals and I arrived here late evening as a setting out point for a multi-day home we were doing through the Lakes. We were warmly greeted by a very friendly barman who made us feel very welcome with fun chitchat. Being late on, we only had some beers, but these tasted excellent. The only constructive feedback I could give is that the decor and furnishings of the place are knocking on somewhat and cohoe do with refreshing, but I am very happy to recommend this pub to others looking for a friendly, rural pub

My partner and I were travelling home from Carlisle and decided to eat out. The Oddfellows arms had been recommended by a few people I know so we decided to give it a go.My first observation is that there is a severe lack of parking, but it is in a quiet village so didn’t really cause an issue. The pub it’s self is “ quirky” inside of a little dated, but as an ex landlord I understand the pressure and constraints pub owners face these days. The greeting was very warm and the service was great. We both ordered Chicken, my partner went for the peppercorn sauce & I went for the Chorizo. Couldn’t fault the food in any way, portion size was good, tasted great and real chips !! A big plus! My only and main criticism is that the menu was a bit samey, I had hopped to find two or three dishes that were a bit out of the ordinary.. that said it wouldn’t stop me going back.

The menu for the rest of the week is larger but the food will just be as good I am sure. Where to start. Well we ordered 4 Sunday lunch one of which was requested as gluten free. The tiny plates housed wafer thin pieces of meal, consome gravy, one piece of broccoli two pieces of carrot and generally the worst Sunday roast I've had to experience in many years all microwave nuked. Needless to say we will not be back but will however have to locate another pub / restaurant for an early evening meal elsewhere. Dreadful, poor quality and no one came during the meal to ask if everything was ok.

We decided to visit on our last night in Wigton. The staff were very friendly and happy, they gave us the choice to eat in the pub area or the restaurant, we chose the restaurant. It was probably not to everybody’s taste because the decor is quite old fashioned but we loved it. It was warm, cozy and welcoming. Our food was gorgeous. We had the Pie which was homemade and huge, the steak which was perfectly cooked and tender, the burger which was again very fresh and big. I had the Gammon which was a delicious pub classic. The deserts were also generous and heavenly. Again, the staff were very friendly and interested, it was like talking to old friends. There is a real sense of family and togetherness in the town itself, everybody knows everybody and was a humble place to be for our last night. Thank you all!

We only chose this place as it was pretty much in the middle of where the two couples were arriving from - turned out to be a great choice! We got a very friendly welcome, and friendly service throughout the meal. When the food came we were all taken aback (and very impressed) with the portion sizes, and glad we'd decided against having starters. Although, mine came last and I must say having seen the size of everyone else's I was a bit disappointed when mine (curry) came, but I needn't have worried - there was definitely enough, and it was delicious! The chips (I stole a few from my other half) were really good too....and I'm not a big fan of chips! We stayed for another drink after the meal and it was a nice atmosphere, where we could just sit and chat. The star attraction was definitely the gorgeous bulldog who kept everyone entertained. I fully expect that we'll be back.

We found this place by looking at what pubs/restaurants were in the local area while we were on holiday nearby at Limestone Lodges. What a find! We called in on a Wednesday night which we were told was steak night but disappointed to be told they were fully booked. We arrived at 6pm and after a talk to the very friendly landlord he said if we can be done by 8 pm he would accommodate us and are we glad he did. We ordered 2 sirloin steaks and I have to say these were cooked to perfection. I love a steak and I know when a steak is good these were one of the best tasting steaks I have ever had. The price for what we had just eaten was unbelievable at around £9. each. This place is a definite must return to place.

Plenty of atmosphere, lots of good ales and a very reasonably priced menu at this village pub. The service was excellent with out being intrusive and joy of joys On a cold and wet winter weekend - a fire. The menu isn't extensive but there's a good range of starters, mains and puds. I had the lamb cobbler, with seasonal veg and mash. It was delicious with a herby scone topping and plenty of meat which melted in the mouth. The second night I had the steak burger and chips. The chips were a delight, hand cut and brown. The burger was a whopper and was made of minced steak. Not seasoned quite enough for my taste and as I like my burgers pink in the middle I thought it was just slightly over cooked but that is probably just my tastes. The salad was great, well dressed and crunchy. I didn't have room for a pudding on either visit. My friends had the scampi and chicken stuffed with Cumberland sausage which the said were very good. Meals on average were about £10 a head. The Guinness was well kept as was the local pale ale which I sampled. Well worth a visit.

The tiny hamlet of Bolton low houses is the secret location of one of Cumbrias finest culinary gems. The Oddfellows arms will provide you with the finest pub grub for a price that seems a few years behind the times. This is not a place for the faint of appetite, go there prepared to eat until you can eat no more. I could wax lyrical about the gravy, extol the virtues of the Yorkshire puddings but the true praise has to be reserved for the meat, cooked to perfection with a melt in the mouth texture and a flavour that cannot be easily rivaled. I would suggest calling ahead and making a booking before you go as the local population are aware of this hidden oasis of perfect food and jealously book tables for themselves

Thought we would give this place a try as we saw it when coming back from Lodore Falls a few weeks ago and thought location was good. Booked Sunday lunch for 2 adults and 2 teenagers as a pre-Christmas family lunch out. On arrival no one greeted us and we waited in line at the bar to be told, not shown to, which one our table was and to come back to the bar to order. This is fine but at hotel restaurant I would expect staff to come and take our order - main course Sunday lunch £24.95, burgers the kids had £21.95 so not cheap. Inn on the Lake Glenridding for example is less expensive and far superior in location, class, service and food quality. I ordered roast beef and when it arrived I actually got lamb - no problem mistakes happen - but it did mean i had to wait for it to be replaced whilst the rest of my family ate their meals. When beef arrived it was dried out, as if heated under a grill. No one checked on us during the meal but asked if everything was ok when they came to clear. I told them my beef wasn't great - half of it uneaten - and they said i should have told them and they would have replaced. Fine, but bearing in mind i had already waited for it to be replaced once and eaten after others had finished i didn't really want to go for round 3. My meal was removed from the bill but the experience for a family lunch out was spoilt. We were in the restaurant area that doesn't allow dogs but close to the open doors to the dog friendly area - I love dogs but the smell coming through wasn't pleasant from time to time, especially when eating. Generally i think it is expensive and disappointing for what it is, pub type service and food at restaurant prices. £9.50 for puddings for example is excessive for the environment. A shame as location is great to stop for lunch if walking around Derwentwater but I wouldn't recommend based on pour experience today. As a final comment the staff did seem genuinely apologetic.

I visited Oilys with family and just after the meals were served my brother had taken ill. One member of staff in particular was so helpful and attentive. Part way through the meal we had to leave to take my brother home and the same lady offered to box up all our meals for us as we had only started. Excellent service. The meals were delicious and it is just a shame we had to leave early. Luckily my brother is okay and we will have to go back sometime for a better experience.
