Excellent venue with superb food, usually. I had the Grostel for breakfast, having had it before, but this time it was like a dogs dinner and and slimey. Should have stuck to the full English, which looked brilliant.

Love this relaxed value for money roadside eatery. There is a buzz to the location and despite limited parking I always seem to find some. The smashed avocado and poached eggs on toast was excellent and the tea plentiful. Portinscale has 2 excellent lunch time eateries with Lingholm equally good too.

Visited here Sunday 26th May with my husband and dog. Initially, I was impressed with the cleanliness of the place. Unfortunately we did not have a good experience following this. I had poached eggs on toast and both eggs were undercooked. I took it back to the front till and explained to a member of staff and I did not get acknowledged they simply took the plate and did not say a word, no apology and left me standing there. Another member of staff said they would bring a fresh one over to me. The fresh plate was brought over and no apology was made. They simply said “there you go” and walked away. No one came to check if our food was ok and nobody cleared the plates. When paying on exit they also didn’t ask how our food was. Poor customer service for an expensive breakfast. Will not be going back.

Dropped in here for breakfast after checking out from our apartment across the road in Portinscale and had a fantastic breakfast. The staff are really friendly. The kitchen is open to full view and you can see everything cooked from scratch as you wait. Some really interesting options that aren't just the standard full English - although the Cumbrian breakfast did look very good. Very informal atmosphere with customers of all ages in muddy boots. Well behaved dogs made we're made very welcome, although none in our party. Ingenious sunflower system to indicate when you're ready to order. The waitress appeared immediately, almost by magic, drinks were delivered just a couple of minutes later and meals in a few minutes more. We shared a Tiroler Grostl (which was very substantial, tasty and full of delicious ham) and pancakes with syrup and a very generous served bacon. It really set us up for a day walking in the beautiful Newlands valley just down the road. The design of the place really is reminiscent of alpine restaurants in ski resorts - a great find

Walked here from Keswick, about 3/4 mile so an easy walk. Ordered a fruit scone with jam and cream as well as a latte. Gorgeous scone, nice and thick, the clotted cream was a tub of Rodda's classic cornish clotted cream which I always think is the best and a mini jar of strawberry jam. Latte also lovely. Couldn't have asked for a better scone or latte.

We stopped off for breakfast whilst doing the walk around Derwentwater. The breakfasts were ok and the cafe clean, what let the visit down was the lack of customer service and social skills of the staff. On the morning we visited they cannot have been the same friendly crew mentioned in some reviews, there was no welcome, no smile no banter just a miserable attitude. It’s a shame as the cafe is in an excellent spot for walkers, next time we will be walking on to the Lingholme Cafe, where a warm welcome is given by staff with social skills.

The staff were so efficient and well organised. The food was delicious, good portion size. The tuna melt was delicious and packed with filling. We did have our eyes on the amazing cakes. We were very disappointed with the food and waitress. 1. Wanted to order a vodka martini and was told I could only order their “special” which was a concoction of spices. When asked if I could just have vodka with a splash, I was told “no”. 2. The pizza oven wasn’t working which also included the garlic bread. 3. The food was served at volcanic heat. Literally bubbling, with steam rising a foot in the air. After waiting about 15 minutes to be eatable, we poured the lasagna on another plate and stirred for a few minutes. Unbelievably, the waitress told us it was correctly served. Way too many restaurants in Keswick to eat here.

Every time we visit, The Lanes Cafe is our go-to spot, without question. The ambiance is warm and inviting, making it the ideal setting for a casual meal or a relaxing coffee break. The menu offers a fantastic variety of dishes, all crafted with fresh ingredients and beautifully presented—especially the cakes and bakes A bonus is they offer a pay it forward scheme, which restored my faith in humanity. I particularly loved their afternoon tea, which is both flavorful and satisfying. The staff are friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re in the mood for a quick bite or a leisurely brunch, The Lanes Cafe is definitely a must-visit. Highly recommended!
