Thyme Bistro in Allerdale

Food was just fine, but not great. Nicer, more upscale place. Made a reservation (we were there in July, on a week day), but didn't need it. Even though the place wasn't full, they sat us next to the door.

This was our second visit having had a great experience last time we ate here. Once again we had great food and great service. The chef and his wife provide delicious home made food & great service.

There are many options when it comes to eating out in Keswick, but I would strongly recommend Thyme Bistro. We hadn’t booked but were found a table quickly. Everything was very tasty. The food is clearly freshly cooked to order. Service was first rate from a lovely smiley waitress and Wendy couldn’t have been more helpful catering to my wife’s dietary requirements. There is no doubt we will return the next time we are in Keswick.

Shared a calamari for starters -light, beautifully cooked. Best we’ve had in ages. Mains were beef bourginon and lamb shank. Wonderful rich gravy, slow cooked meat and firm veg. Perfect

Stumbled upon this place on our way to find somewhere to eat in Keswick and luckily they managed to fit us in. The menu had plenty of choice, the food was excellent and there was a lovely bustling but relaxed atmosphere. What really impressed us was the staff who were attentive and had personalities which is often lacking at other establishments. We will definitely return on our next visit to Keswick.

It was very quiet when we were there. Only three other tables were taken. Looking at the menu there was a lot of choice but was overpriced for the place. One of the drinks was wrong but this was quickly swapped for the correct one. Our main came and it was extremely hot. Felt like it had been zapped in the microwave for a long time . Tasted ok though. No atmosphere. Felt under the spotlight with it being so quiet and everyone sat in the same corner you could hear everyone's conversations.

Absolutely brilliant place. The owners are adorable. The staff had let them down, but they carried on regardless! Hats off to you, I admire you. The service was great and food delicious. I want to say thank you again. Everything was perfect. Thank you for accommodating us! We will definitely recommend it. 👌

We were very disappointed with the food and waitress. 1. Wanted to order a vodka martini and was told I could only order their “special” which was a concoction of spices. When asked if I could just have vodka with a splash, I was told “no”. 2. The pizza oven wasn’t working which also included the garlic bread. 3. The food was served at volcanic heat. Literally bubbling, with steam rising a foot in the air. After waiting about 15 minutes to be eatable, we poured the lasagna on another plate and stirred for a few minutes. Unbelievably, the waitress told us it was correctly served. Way too many restaurants in Keswick to eat here.

Without a weekend reservation, we were very lucky and appreciative to be offered a table here. Despite the restaurant suffering from lack of staff due to waitresses returning to college, we enjoyed a beautifully prepared lamb shank and confit duck. It felt like the restaurant could do with turning the background music up a touch and dimming the lighting to help warm up the ambience a little. We left well fed for a perfectly reasonable price and would eat here again without question. Thank you for taking is in!

We had stuffed mushrooms and homemade paté to start the pork belly and lamb shank. The food is of high quality and cooked very well with plenty of flavour. We had liquor coffees to finish which were a great end to the meal. Service is unfussy and friendly. As for atmosphere it has air. This is always a silly category. I don't go to restaurants to look at the wallpaper or eavesdrop on the conversation. The chef is exactly like a chef should be. Obviously working hard in the kitchen but has time to meet his guests. Locals and visitors are very fortunate to have it and it's open on a Monday.

We had dinner last night for a group of six friends. The waitress was very friendly and efficient and we even had the chef/owner come out to have a chat with us. I had the prawn cocktail to start and then the lamb shank both were excellent. My friends had different dishes which were all received well. Would highly recommend a visit to the Thyme Bistro for good quality food.

Really lovely spot! It pays to book. The food was really nice. A pleasant enough atmosphere is a little quiet early in the evening. The service was very attentive, friendly.

What a delight and tranquil oasis Thyme Bistro is! The lamb rump is genuinely to die for, and their cocktails are delicious accompaniments. Steph is a fantastic waitress and she shared some fabulous foodie recommendations for Preston my next stop. Loved Thyme, highly recommended!

Nice food and very efficient staff

Lovely meal here. 3 of us, 1 had pork belly, 1 pasta and I had the chicken in cream sauce. Desserts also nice. Service was quick and friendly. Really nice little place, recommend you book.

Had a delicious meal tonight, belly pork and cod loin for mains, tiramisu and creme brulee for puds- excellent, couldn't fault it, long time since had 100% for each course: beautiful flavours, well balanced, tasty food! Thank you 😊

It was excellent, with tasty food!

A must to visit while in the lakes, this place was recommended by our holiday accommodation. to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We got a warm welcome and shown to our seats, even though we had an early sitting there were already a number of people eating, the food was delicious, and only wished we had enough room for the sticky toffee pudding, but there is always next time.

Booked last minute, was an issue with the booking but still managed to squeeze us in. Lovely staff, very attentive. Food was 10/10 I'd recommend the thyme burger and the pate is the best I've ever had. The restaurant was full so I thought they didn't have music playing, but as people left I heard it come through. Perfect volume. Get yourself a table!

Very impressed with the food. We were not planning in coming here today, but all of our choices were fully booked and to be fair I am glad they were. The garlic bread was good. I order a vegetarian lasagna and when I saw it I was a bit unsure as it did not look like a lasagna, but it was very very good. My partner ate the spinach torttelini and was also very good. Very good merlot. Recommend for sure!

We had a great pleasure to eat dinner tonight, despite very busy time our table was accepted. Service is very efficient, food is absolutely delicious- we had prawns and pate for starters and beef burgers for main. The best beef burgers i have ever eaten! Definitely big 5* !!!! Just been to the Thyme bistro in Keswick, me and my husband were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary i could not have asked for anything better, great atmosphere, lovely staff the young waiter and waitress were very welcoming, food was 10 out 10 and would definitely recommend.

Our go to restaurant whenever we are in or around Keswick. Friendly welcome by the owners and staff. Quality, home cooked food and good portion sizes. It was virtually full with customers, on the night we went, and had a great atmosphere, but the service was prompt without being rushed at all.....no moving you on quickly firma second sitting at this place. You need to give it a try...its well worth it.

I booked a table for 6 and at the last minute rang and asked if we could add another 2 to our booking. They were very helpful and managed to squeeze them in. Food was amazing as was the service. Will definitely be back next time we are in Keswick

Hidden away in the Museum Square and it was pure good luck that we found it. Fantastic food and friendly, efficient service. We will definitely go back here.

As regular visitors to Keswick we have surprisingly not eaten here previously. We had a delicious meal and will definitely be back. There is plenty of choice; pizza & pasta, burgers as well as classic fayre. We chose mains of slow cooked lamb shank & confit of duck respectively. Both dishes were beautifully cooked & came with a variety of tasty veg. Special mention to the accompanying sauces too. Our puds were a tiramisu & chocolate torte with an orange sorbet. The restaurant is comfortable & service was good. Total bill with a drink each-around £75. Good value & really nice.

Booked this restraunt months ahead and asked two months ago for one of there cove round tables told they would there best try but if bookings for six would take preferred arrived on night all tables were taken all 4s like us. Really disappointed food was delicious, obviously our table was given either to walk in or later bookings.dont book here not worth it

I had booked this restaurant as a surprise to my other half in August this year, owing to the excellent reviews I read here around the quality of the food and the ambience. Needless to say we were not disappointed. The food was excellent, the service was great, made even more special owing to the interaction, with other diners around the quality of the food, where a conversation broke amongst diners, sat in a section of the restaurant where we admitted to listening to others whilst they ordered (we all do!!) their choices of food, and then wishing that we were having theirs upon arrival to the tables! We shall be returning again in December, and look forward to trying the other dishes that other diners on this evening had!

Excellent food and service just as enjoyable as our last visit and we will be back before too long on our next visit to Keswick

The layout of the restaurant doesn't lend itself to a good atmosphere and I'm afraid the food didn't make up for it. Nothing terrible but just fairly mediocre. Maybe it's because it's a bit off the beaten track and doesn't have the vibe if the main streets.

I never leave reviews, but this was so incredibly disappointing - and very expensive. £16 and £17 something for our burgers. The burger was a bun with one piece of iceberg lettuce, the patties.... and that was it. No sauce, relish, greens, onion ring... Just nothing. On the side was chips and a sad looking salad-thing with some cheap shop bought dressing. The chips, clearly not homemade, but just rubbish oven chips. When asked what they did with the coleslaw for vegan burgers, the waitress seemed utterly indifferent and said they just didn't serve it. Other places have actually discovered vegan mayo or will provide an alternative. All in all, there was no love for, or knowledge of, food. But for that much money you assume the chef wants to cook something delightful for the guests. This simply wasn't it. I don't get the many good reviews - unless it's only the burgers that aren't good. I hope so.

Visited on a Saturday night without a booking and was greeted by Wendy who sorted us a table with no issues. Food was unbelievable and service was second to none. Thankyou for the great food and hospitality. Not a place to miss!
