Staff were so friendly, welcoming, bubbly and warm, they really made our experience when they were having a laugh and bantering with customers. The food was delicious, really good portion sizes and reasonably priced. Didn't have to wait long at all for service, drinks or food. We are so glad we decided to try this place before we left Cockermouth to return home. We even asked to take some scones with us for when we got home.

Squirrels Pantry is a nice little cafe about 200 yards from the A66 with free parking and adjacent to a garden centre. Having an atrium roof and being situated in a wood adds to the appeal. I enjoyed my visit to Squirrels Pantry, the waitress was very friendly and the price of the meals were highly competitive, with many under £10. I had an omelette, chips and salad, which came to £ 8.95, and a generous sized capuccino to wash it down. My meal was good value and enjoyable and it seems the staff know many of the customers by name, which suggests a loyal clientele. I would recommend Squirrels Pantry to anyone visiting Cockermouth as it is cheaper than many of the town centre eateries. Note- the cafe only takes cash payments.

Located adjacent to Oakhurst Garden Centre, this small cafe snugly nestled amongst the greenery / forest. Good parking spaces & the cafe is a large glazed atrium giving max natural daylight. Service was good, very friendly. We arrived at 11.20 & had the benefit of the breakfast menu (finishes 11.30) & brunch. I had a bacon sandwich & my wife had chicken tikka sandwich, both were better than your average snack / sandwiches. There is also a large selection of cake which we took away. A lovely little cafe.

My first visit, unfortunately I was served by a lady who was grumpy, unwelcoming, and simply not friendly, first impressions etc. No idea how to make a flat white, had the appearance of a latte, tasted average. The cake was nice, generous portion. As I was about to leave I went to pay, cash only, I was told, luckily I did have some cash with me which is unusual for me, not their fault the machine wasn't working, but why not mention to customers as they walk in that it's cash only to avoid potential problems.

We called in, in the hope of seeing red squirrels, which, unfortunately, are no longer around, but were very happy to discover this hidden gem. A warm welcome, attentive and speedy service and lovely food compensated for our initial disappointment. We visited after seeing the sign outside advertising their scones. However once we went inside, we realised the whole place looked run down. I couldn't use the gents toilet outside as the stench from within was unbearable. We only ordered a cup of tea, but to be honest that was very average. At over £2 a person it should be quality tea. The teapot had an old stain running down the front of it, one of the cups was grubby and there were crumbs over two of the chairs. We will not be returning.

Esperamos volver a visitar pronto.

. . a que esperas, no te demores

We are lucky to be able to visit this unique little country café on a regular basis. The food is excellent - all home made. A real bonus is that all year round, whilst you eat, you can watch birds attracted to the feeders outside and in winter the real treat is watching the red squirrels also visiting the feeders. Just before Christmas we watched several squirrels come and go for the whole time we were there. The owners keep a 'squirrel board' updated with the times that they've visited during the day. A delightful break away from the hectic pace of today's life. For plantaholics the nursery next door is also well worth a visit.

We called in for lunch whilst on holiday. Food was freshly cooked and delicious. Home made cake for pudding was yummy. Staff friendly. Added bonus of a red squirrel sitting outside the window eating nuts! We would definitely eat here again if we visit the area again.

Have been visiting Squirrels now for quite a few years under different owners. The current owner is doing a fab job, all fresh food, brilliantly done. I am quite particular where I go but Squirrels is a great place to go for breakfast, lunch, or an afternoon tea. I can't speak highly enough of it so get yourself along and try it.

Popped in on the way past with my grandparents for a drink. We also had a cream scone, Grasmere Gingerbread and Caramel Shortbread, all were delicious. Staff were friendly and lovely setting.

Looking for somewhere for lunch and saw the Pantry situated in the grounds of a garden center. Very tucked away but nice little place with friendly efficient service and a nice range of lunch time food, all freshly prepared.

I went for lunch with a friend yesterday. I hadn't been there for several years and was not impressed on my last visit. However, the new owners have made a massive improvement. It is in a conservatory with a very pleasant atmosphere and the outlook is very private, trees all around. I had home made quiche which was absolutely delicious and the salad which accompanied it was very fresh and interesting and unlike the standard salad which is served in other places. The coffee was also good and the staff friendly and helpful. Altogether a lovely experience.

This cafe has changed ownership and been refurbished since our visit last year. Very clean and comfortable, quite busy as it was lunchtime. My partner had a plough mans lunch and I had a cheese and ham toastie, the ham was home cooked and sliced thick delicious. Will go back next time in the area.

Rustic and clean, adjacent to garden centre. My wife is a connoisseur of tea and scones and these were perfect here. Dog enjoyed them too.

We had visited here two years ago and this time the minor issues we had last time were absent. We had one afternoon tea (sandwich, scone/jam/butter/cream, cake, tea) and a cheese omelette with salad garnish and tea.The afternoon tea was excellent - beautifully soft bread and tasty cheese, a nice scone with fresh cream, and a rather unusual lemon slice which was delicious - and good value at £9. The omelette was also good.We were slightly overcharged but it was quickly rectified. We'll be back.

The best dog friendly cafe in the lakes. Gorgeous food and the warmest welcome. This is our go to place when walking in the north lakes. All of the food always hits the spot but the cakes are just gorgeous!

Thought we would give this place a try as we saw it when coming back from Lodore Falls a few weeks ago and thought location was good. Booked Sunday lunch for 2 adults and 2 teenagers as a pre-Christmas family lunch out. On arrival no one greeted us and we waited in line at the bar to be told, not shown to, which one our table was and to come back to the bar to order. This is fine but at hotel restaurant I would expect staff to come and take our order - main course Sunday lunch £24.95, burgers the kids had £21.95 so not cheap. Inn on the Lake Glenridding for example is less expensive and far superior in location, class, service and food quality. I ordered roast beef and when it arrived I actually got lamb - no problem mistakes happen - but it did mean i had to wait for it to be replaced whilst the rest of my family ate their meals. When beef arrived it was dried out, as if heated under a grill. No one checked on us during the meal but asked if everything was ok when they came to clear. I told them my beef wasn't great - half of it uneaten - and they said i should have told them and they would have replaced. Fine, but bearing in mind i had already waited for it to be replaced once and eaten after others had finished i didn't really want to go for round 3. My meal was removed from the bill but the experience for a family lunch out was spoilt. We were in the restaurant area that doesn't allow dogs but close to the open doors to the dog friendly area - I love dogs but the smell coming through wasn't pleasant from time to time, especially when eating. Generally i think it is expensive and disappointing for what it is, pub type service and food at restaurant prices. £9.50 for puddings for example is excessive for the environment. A shame as location is great to stop for lunch if walking around Derwentwater but I wouldn't recommend based on pour experience today. As a final comment the staff did seem genuinely apologetic.

I visited Oilys with family and just after the meals were served my brother had taken ill. One member of staff in particular was so helpful and attentive. Part way through the meal we had to leave to take my brother home and the same lady offered to box up all our meals for us as we had only started. Excellent service. The meals were delicious and it is just a shame we had to leave early. Luckily my brother is okay and we will have to go back sometime for a better experience.
