Visited again on a very busy Thursday but could not fault the staff and homemade food. One table seemed to think it was the local MacDonalds and were kicking off after waiting about 2 mins to be served!! This place really is a hidden gem and is bright, relaxing and calm. We all had different things from the menu and everything was perfect. Will be back soon. Thank you

Lunch with friend wow amazing, doesn’t really look much from the outside (old school house/dreary winter weather) but OMG how wrong once you step inside it’s amazing, bright and airy but cozy warm even with the high ceilings, the specials on offer…. 2 soups (2 of my favs,so will have to go back) ! Panini, chilli (roast on a Sunday) veg/vegan options, along with usual menu, I also came with hubby 2wks ago for coffee and cake, delish 😍, anyway while with friend today we both had a panini tea and cake, the cake was homemade yet again and delish, again 2 cakes I couldn’t decide on, so might have to get hubby to take my for morning coffee and cake tomorrow, not sure who Mae is but the staff are lovely and friendly, honestly couldn’t recommend enough & totally embarrassed I’ve drove past the sign for last 5yrs!!

We have been visiting Mae's for around 8 years now on our way to and from the lakes. We always receive great service and enjoy the food. So when we were looking for a small venue for our wedding reception we were delighted that Mae's could host it. It was absolutely perfect for us and our guests (around 50 people) Mae's provided a buffet style reception however they offered us a range of food styles and choices. The food was delicious and the service by Mark and his team was excellent. The traditional school house building and quintessential lakeland backdrop was perfect for our wedding photographs. All our guests enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the lake district surroundings. Would definitely recommend Mae's for an intimate Lake District wedding.

I would recommend their food and I would not hesitate returning with future events.

We were on our way down from Carlisle to Cockermouth and decided we wanted a little tea and coffee shop somewhere to stop off at. My daughter did a quick internet search and found Mae's Tea Room and Gallery. However, it has to be said that it is a little off the beaten track to find....BUT it's definitely well worth finding as it's a real gem! Located in an old school building Mae's not only sells excellent tea, coffee and scrumptious homemade cakes but also has a gallery. There is a huge selection of handmade greeting cards, an assortment of homemade preserves, plus art work and jewelry (which was so nice that i had to purchase a pair of earrings!). The tea and coffee was quality and the cream tea and lemon drizzle cake was absolutely delicious. 10/10!!

We visited Mae's Tea Roomfor afternoon tea as a party of five. We had two vegetarians and a nut allergy sufferer in our party, so we called ahead and they reserved a table or us. They were very busy when we arrived...15 minutes early, but they were so welcoming and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. The afternoon tea was delicious and very generous portions! Believe me when I say my family can pack away their food, despite all their problems, but we left with enough food to feed my student daughter and her boyfriend for days! We went on a Sunday afternoon and they were also doing Sunday lunch that looked very good too! We will definitely return with empty tummies! We also all enjoyed the artwork around the place that is all for sale!

My husband and I visited the tearoom during a gorgeous holiday in the North Lakes, a place known for outstanding friendliness and welcome. It was a surprise then to receive a rather more cold reception here. The waitress was very rude to my husband and we were asked to clear the dirty table we were sitting at ourselves because they were busy. (It was dirty from previous customers). There were only three tables in the whole tearoom being used! The whole experience was quite uncomfortable and not at all in keeping with what we are accustomed to in this beautiful part of the country. Very disappointing.

Comfortable seating, plenty of room and an airy big room. But the staff were wonderful. and helpful. I bought some of the jam they have for sale, as the products are their own. I had a delicious large scone with raspberry jam and clotted cream. It was put in a take away container as I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. What a gem of a place! Never heard of uldale but was most amazing drive, so if you're up for a ride out I'd recommend the caldbeck common route (but to be fair all the roads have stunning views!) Cafe is also a sort of gallery selling art and other handmade homewares and gifts. Quirky and cool to wander around and have a look. Menu was OK and very good range of Gluten free options and desserts, freshly made. Light and airey with a log fire for colder months.Dogs are welcome, which is wonderful, and there are ground floor toilets which are in cubicles outside. Very clean but not sure a wheelchair user would find them suitable. Access to cafe has a slight step with ramp available on request. Car parking available on site but i can imagine tight at busy times.I will definitely plan to come back here, particularly if anyone comes to visit as its very special. As we were staying locally in Ireby we got a recommendation to go to Mae's. The location and building are beautiful - an old converted school that has lost none of the charm. There are plenty of parking spots on site or nearby and toilets are outside as well. The staff there were lovely and welcoming. They have a good sized menu considering its a small cafe, including lots of cakes, sandwiches etc. They can do a special high tea if ordered in advance. They also have events on periodically like a special Greek night and Curry night so worth checking on their website if interested. We had tea for 2, soup of the day (was potato and leek) and my partner the fruit scone which she said was delicious and a very generous serving with great cream and jam. The tea for 2 made 3 and a bit cups which was good for me. They have a few beers / ciders you can have on site or take away that are locally made which is a nice touch and there are some art work displays and crafts from what I assume are local artists and photographers which if we could take with us we would have done! Well worth a visit / detour if nearby.

Red bush tea and fruit scones! Oh my word! Warm scones with butter that melts and cream that also melts and raspberry jam with pips all make for a disgustingly naughty treat. So much so, we had to clean the mess off the table before we left the plates. What a lovely little find in the middle on almost no where.

These tea rooms are hidden away in an old school building in the village of Uldale. We had lunch there and considered the food to be of a high standard. The building also serves as an art gallery for local artists and is worth visiting just for that.

Food outstanding plus excellent service. Good range of snacks or lunchtime meals. Formerly a school and you can almost see the little ones at their desks. Well worth a visit if you are in this part of Cumberland

I visited Mae's a fortnight ago with a friend and everything was superb: the service, the food and the general ambience of the place. When entering the tea room I didn't expect Sunday lunches at all, so I got the garlic mushrooms with salad and a salmon steak. Not a complaint, the portion size was just enough and the value for the meal was excellent at around £12 for a two course meal, with plenty of coffee refills! The service was excellent and really helpful.Definitely worth the visit... :)

We called in mid Sunday afternoon. Missed Sunday lunch, which was OK as we were not hungry enough for a full meal. We had pulled pork and Chicken sandwiches in doorstep bread slices. Ice cream to follow. Excellent value.NOTE - not easy to find, but worth the effort!

We live in Carlisle and Mae's is perfect for refreshments either on our way into the Lakes or on our way home. The service is always friendly and welcoming. The scones and cakes are delicious. Very reasonably priced. We love to visit and try to as often as we can.

We only called in whilst passing for a look at the gallery and to have an ice cream. The tea roo is located in the old village school. The tea room does a decent range of light meals, and cakes etc, but as we had lunch earlier, we just had an ice cream, and sat in the play ground to eat it... Lovely gallery with paintings, jewelry, and other nik naks... some lovely things on sale.. Friendly service as well...

The best dog friendly cafe in the lakes. Gorgeous food and the warmest welcome. This is our go to place when walking in the north lakes. All of the food always hits the spot but the cakes are just gorgeous!

Perfect stop for a coffee break - the view over the lake with bird feeders in front was great. The chairs in the lounge were very comfortable - best decaf coffee I have had. Looked at the menu and it was a shame that only a coffee stop. Did have a taste of the local beers!!

Walked from Keswick centre to Nichol End Marina. A lovely walk but was glad when I arrived at the marina cafe. Roger (jolly Roger) welcomed me in and was so helpful and friendly. It was quiet as the season is coming to an end. I had an oat milk coffee and a raisin sticky toffee scone. It was so big! Put half in a bag to take home. Plenty of choice of scones all fresh and looking delicious. Prices were so reasonable. Roger then gave me a ride in his boat across Derwent Water. He’s such a nice man. It made my day to find a gem of a place. Would def recommend if in the area. Will return and try out the boating/canoeing etc next year.

We visit this pub all the time and I thought it was due a review! What an amazing place. Food is good honest pub grub with Specials. The staff are really friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is always good with locals and walkers - good craic. Almost forgot the real ale which is always being changed. Proper village pub at the heart of the community with an amazing landlady !
