Simply fabulous. We recently had afternoon tea while on a girlie weekend. The views are stunning. The hosts are so friendly and couldn’t do enough for you, and as for the food …. It was absolutely amazing Highly recommend a visit.

A lovely characterful food van and cafe - delicious! Space outside to sit and undercover tables too.

Fantastic little club, with a great course and even better food. A warm welcome at the little gem. Green keepers clearly know what they are doing as the course is in great condition. And to top it off the food quality is a real treat thanks to the fabulous chef 👍

I stumbled across Scran after recently moving to Wigton, and I'm honestly so glad I did! Not only did the cater brilliantly for my vegetarian girlfriend, but the food and service we got was brilliant from start to finish. Furthermore, the fact that they emphasise all the ingredients come from the local area makes it an even better experience. Ultimately, it means you get lovely food, while at the same time supporting local businesses!

What a little gem. Debbie the owner was so helpful- nothing was too much trouble. We had really tasty paninis with an imaginative salad garnish which included a balsamic dressing and pomegranite seeds- very fancy! We had tea served in proper vintage china cups and saucer and it was a large tea pot so plenty of it. There's lovely reupholstered vintage furniture and artwork for sale on the walls. Finishing off with a quirky library loo- utterly charming. As Arnie would say- we'll be back!

Precis: Wow! Excellent! Any other superlative you choose! Full review: What a wonderful gem of a find! From the start the welcome was warm and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for Gary, Donna and their team; what a diamond they have found in Jack! The quality of the furnishings is very high, the fittings top class and the home made biscuits in the bedroom were delicious! Even a welcome decanter of sherry to start off your stay! The hallway walls are adorned with award plaques from numerous organisations! The grounds were extensive and very well kept. We had read about the wild red squirrels and hoped we may get to spot one - no fears there; we watched them running around the garden and feeder each day! Now for the food! Absolutely excellent! Each evening started at 7pm with canapés and good conversation with fellow guests, most of whom seem to be repeat visitors, with good reason! Gary is very personable and quite the bon viveur, his knowledge of wine is excellent, after all by his own admission he has been in the game for a good number of years! The four course dinner menu is set, no choices, but the menu is on display each morning and I'm sure that alternatives could be organised if enough notice were given. Each course was exquisite, served piping hot (where appropriate!) and presented beautifully, as was the table in general. Service was efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. Breakfast was just as good! Hazel Bank has seven rooms and the restaurant is open only to residents. All this means that each guest gets very personal, and personable, service from start to finish! If you think that this review is a little enthusiastic then I doubt you've visited! Don't get me wrong, it isn't for everybody and nowhere is totally perfect, but Hazel Bank gets VERY close!

Thank you so much for making our meal for our 40th wedding anniversary with our friends so memorable. The standard of food was superb and presentation exceptional, this was down to the dedication of the team in the kitchen and their mentors . The service we received from the young man (clover) was outstanding and he should be rightly proud as the rest of the serving team and mentors should be. £21 yes £21 for a three course restaurant meal and expirience. When we are next up this way on holiday we shall most definately be booking a lunch and will recommend to our family and friends. Finally a big thankyou for the marvellous cake which you presented to us. It was delicious and again a reflection of the superb team you have at the college including the your booking collegue. So once again thank you ALL Dave and Lin

Wonderful. Breakfast was excellent, hot and perfectly cooked. Staff were attentive, friendly and welcoming; they asked why we had visited and when they heard it was for my wife’s birthday they sang Happy Birthday to her right there and then. Beautiful surroundings, interesting history in the back of the menu. All in all a very special place.

The tea room was shut last time we were in Allonby so we were pleased to see it was open. We were stopped from entering at the door in a slightly uncomfortable manner. We asked if there was a table for 2 which there wasn’t. We asked if there might be one later and were able to put our name down and to come back in half an hour. Our waiter was really polite and friendly but in general, the service wasn’t great and we had to ask for our drinks when we saw 2 tables who arrived and ordered after us and was clear ours had been forgotten about. Our table didn’t get cleared for a while despite several staff walking past and it was only when we grabbed the attention of someone and said we’d like to order cakes that it was finally cleared. The whole atmosphere wasn’t particularly friendly or nice. Unfortunately a disappointing experience and we wouldn’t go back in a hurry.
