My wife and I have visited Woody’s twice recently. The first trip was in passing to grab a takeaway that we expected to have to eat in the car because the weather was awful. However, we were offered complimentary use of the small cabin to the rear which happened to be empty. I have to say that the food was excellent, the service wonderful and the cabin delightful, doubly so as an unexpected bonus. We were so impressed we booked in and went back for the afternoon tea. Again, the food was excellent and the service was genuine, warm and attentive. Whether you’re looking for a takeaway or sit-in cafe experience, whether savoury or sweet and either hot or cold food, then this really as a little gem of a place that I can’t recommend too highly. It is now on our list of regular go to places in West Cumbria.

We popped to Flimby today from Penrith to visit the seaside and were really happy to see Woody’s serving food, drinks and ice cream. Benches were set on the green in the sunshine and the food came promptly! The food was excellent. Generous portions and extremely good value. The ice cream was home made and the owners were lovely and really welcoming. We will be back! Thanks again all.

Have used these lot for cheesecakes (galaxy caramel to be exact) and they were lovely. We also recently had two afternoon tea boxes delivered due to us being unable to leave the house and they were brilliant quality for the money. Don’t need to look much further for desserts and sarnies in Flimby , lucky to have this so close to us.

A must for anyone who would love some delicious quality home cooked food in homely and comforting surroundings. We booked for my daughter to have afternoon tea for her birthday. It was simply delicious. The amount of sandwiches, savoury dishes and beautiful cakes and sweet treats was divine. We try to go as often as we can to this hidden gem. The service is second to none and the food is simply not to be missed. Lots for little ones to do and even dog friendly. A must for anyone who loves bears. We cant wait to go back again soon

We visited Woodys for a lateish breakfast on Saturday 16 Nov. None of the rubbish like ‘Oh we’ve stopped serving at 9am’ but a smile and a warm welcome “What can I get you ? “ My heart pulled me towards a Grafters Breakfast, but I had seen the photos of enough food on one plate to feed a coach load, so my wife and I settled for Tinas standard breakfast, with extra haggis, black pudding and a few mushrooms. Oh and hot buttered toast. A deceptively normal sized plate held a wealth of the freshest, tastiest breakfast ingredients. All cooked individually and to perfection; the flavours popped and it was local produce at its best. It was clear that Tina had taken pains to ‘plate up’ carefully, as the TV experts say. Everything carefully placed to make an absolutely delicious whole. My wife also had the most creamy hot chocolate, topped with fresh whipped cream and marshmallows. Anyway, breakfast was an absolute treat. I was sated and couldn’t even bring myself to finish what my wife had to leave and that had never happened before. Planning ahead though, I ordered a still hot roast chicken, stuffing and apple sauce baguette, a piece of freshly made sausage and bean pie and a slice of really moreish Flapjack - for my tea of course. Too late did I notice the individual trifles, a fascinating Malteser confection and the most attractive cheesecake I have ever seen. I couldn’t reasonably take away any more food - not even the Cumbrians favourite - XL Cheese Crisps. These would have to wait for our next visit, because we will certainly be back ! Woodys is Unmissable if you are anywhere within the boundary of Cumbria, or even further afield if you are hungry for the freshest food, cooked to perfection . Make sure you check FB for daily specials and then you can eat to a plan and take home what you can’t manage in store !

Staff were very good in this dog friendly cafe. Loads of toys for kids to play with. Lovely little cheesecakes, just enough to satisfy a sweet tooth without feeling sickly with large portions. Great pot of tea with extra water to weaken mine.

Woody’s is a great place to fill up hungry kids. It is very family friendly with a small indoor play area. The food is simple, eg bacon rolls and burgers, but made with good quality ingredients. The coffee is very good - real coffee that complements the real food! Friendly staff, good service and excellent value for money.

Dropped in to see a friend and had the full breakfast. It was amazing, you could tell the meat was locally sourced, it was beautiful. I was really surprised at how good the prices were, I have paid much more for much less quality, and I was given a veterans discount, as they support ex-forces. Thank you to Tina and young Abbie, who looked after us and gave us great food. Definitely one of the best breakfasts I have had.

After visiting maryport for some shopping my partner suggested visiting Woody's after reading reviews on Facebook. The restaurant itself is part of the old pub and if you have kids there is any amount of toys scattered around to occupy them while you have a much needed break. We were warmly greeted by an old English sheepdog who if you are not a dog lover will be put aside out the way so as not to disturb. We weren't bothered in the slightest and soon made friends with him.Orders were taken my partner asked for cheesy beans baked potato with salad and I ordered the grafters breakfast. After a small wait the food arrived my plate was literally groaning under the weight of its contents.I must admit looking at the food I was thinking there is no way I'll finish this.Ten minutes later my partner has finished hers whilst I am barely a third of the way through mine.Another twenty minutes and I am mopping up the juices with numerous slices of toast. The food was tasty and well cooked but perhaps next time I'll stick to a standard breakfast. All in all a pleasant experience word to the wise if you eat the grafters make sure you jump into your slobbies when you collapse at home.

Good homemade food, big portions, situated just off the main road so easy to find, plenty of off street parking. Right next to a bus stop and the main coastal railway line so it's easy to pop in. The people are friendly and helpful and have good local knowledge. I'd highly recommend the cheesecake its amazing. We will definitely be back.

Such a lovely warm welcome from Ian, the server. He was so attentive throughout our time there. It is a limited menu but everything we had and we went twice in three days in Keswick, tasted great. There was three types of soup to choose from which came with different accompaniments, ie, sourdough toast, spicy chickpea bun ect. There was also a choice of about five different types of cake and I can highly recommend the ginger and raspberry with extra fruit compote. Note it's cash only and closed Sunday and Monday. Soon as we go back to Keswick we are going back to Chintys.

Precis: Wow! Excellent! Any other superlative you choose! Full review: What a wonderful gem of a find! From the start the welcome was warm and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for Gary, Donna and their team; what a diamond they have found in Jack! The quality of the furnishings is very high, the fittings top class and the home made biscuits in the bedroom were delicious! Even a welcome decanter of sherry to start off your stay! The hallway walls are adorned with award plaques from numerous organisations! The grounds were extensive and very well kept. We had read about the wild red squirrels and hoped we may get to spot one - no fears there; we watched them running around the garden and feeder each day! Now for the food! Absolutely excellent! Each evening started at 7pm with canapés and good conversation with fellow guests, most of whom seem to be repeat visitors, with good reason! Gary is very personable and quite the bon viveur, his knowledge of wine is excellent, after all by his own admission he has been in the game for a good number of years! The four course dinner menu is set, no choices, but the menu is on display each morning and I'm sure that alternatives could be organised if enough notice were given. Each course was exquisite, served piping hot (where appropriate!) and presented beautifully, as was the table in general. Service was efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. Breakfast was just as good! Hazel Bank has seven rooms and the restaurant is open only to residents. All this means that each guest gets very personal, and personable, service from start to finish! If you think that this review is a little enthusiastic then I doubt you've visited! Don't get me wrong, it isn't for everybody and nowhere is totally perfect, but Hazel Bank gets VERY close!
