We had booked, on walking in it didn’t feel like it used to. Eaten here many times and had some lovely meals but tonight was the last time we will visit. Staff friendly and one of the female bar staff was quite apologetic and concerned. Ordered two black pudding stacks it was tasty but the poached egg on top was over cooked and not looking too good. Black pudding over cooked and crispy. We managed to eat it. Mains a rolled pork loin with black pudding and apple sauce. Sauce terrible and the pork that was advertised as pan fried had never seen a frying pan as a result the pork was very tough and difficult to even cut. Mine was a 4 hour slow cooked lamb the shame of it the meat was a good quality but had never seen 4 hours in the oven or maybe they forgot to turn it on. It was maybe cooked in an air fryer or cooked fast in the oven I had to ask for a steak knife to try and eat it. I was so disappointed. We told the waitress we were disappointed and she shrugged her shoulders when I said we won’t be back she said that’s up to you! I said not quite the right attitude as she walked into the kitchen. The other poor waitress was mortified she was sent to say sorry by the cook but really the cook should have come and said sorry herself. We were offered a replacement but we had waited quite a while for this and no course had shown promise so declined. They did remove the two mains from the bill. What a real shame

Driving to cockermouth, remembered some one had recommended . So we turned up not knowing what to expect. Really impressed with the location and the friendly staff and peacock. Food was excellent yes it’s on the pricey side but the quality was high and the delicious we will definitely be back

I had earmarked this tearoom for our lunch stop which would be 3/4 point of our 8.5 mile walk round the Borrowdale Valley. We sat inside as it was a rather chilly day, friendly welcome and lovely food the toasted cheese & chive scones are delicious and my hubby thoroughly enjoyed his Cumberland sausage roll, along with a couple of hot drinks. Well worth stopping, I'm sure sitting outside in warmer weather would be lovely. Highly recommend.

Fantastic pub and restaurant. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. Amazing food at amazing prices. We had two visits during a stay in the area and tried various starters, mains and puddings all of which were delicious! Highly recommended if you happen to be in or near Carlisle.

The cafe was full with only one empty table on which other customers had piled their dirty pots. Five young staff were chatting behind the counter rather than clear tables. I approached and asked if the table could be cleared. I was glared at and the table cleared with much banging and grumbling! When our order came, after a long wait, mine was almost thrown at me. I will not come again and advise the manager speaks to her staff in the cafe.

Had a birthday party here restaurant was extremely busy but the service and quality of food made us feel as if we were the only guests. Heartening to see that consistent excellence is possible when all too often it seems the reverse applies. A huge thank you to all the hard working delightful staff members.

Had a table booked for 12:30 Sunday lunchtime. Upon arrival we were alarmed that there were only approx 6 people seated for lunch. We noted how cold the room was and were hesitant to take our coats off. The lady who was waiting on took our order and the starters soon followed. My partner had the soup which was barely warm and very watery. It was served with a brioche hotdog roll which was very odd. I ordered the patè which itself was nice but was again very oddly served with branston pickle! The starters left us underwhelmed and we considered just paying and leaving. Instead we ordered the Turkey dinner and pie of the day. My partner said his pie was beautiful but the chips with it were a mixture of chips, wedges and all shapes as if a child had chopped them. My Turkey dinner was just ok. The Turkey was obviously bought in ready sliced and the pigs in blankets were tasteless. The veg however was tasty. We decided not to have a dessert and quickly paid and left. A very disappointing visit and will not recommend.

the quality has really gone down and the price has gone up. ordered white toast and received brown. when asked to change to white the cook slammed the plate saying that I had made a mistake. the poor waitress did apologise saying it was clearly white toast ordered. that’s the last we will go there.
