Went for Sunday lunch, prawn cocktail, roast beef dinner and a pavlova pudding. My wife had similar and cannot find a fault. The service was excellent and arrived in time. The Craggs was very busy but this did not affect the warm friendly atmosphere

Came to Craggs for Sunday lunch. If you are planning on coming for Sunday Lunch make sure you book as it is always very busy so you may get turned away. Sunday lunch consists of 3 courses with plenty of choices for each course. Some of the choices are a bit old fashioned, e.g egg mayonnaise or prawn cocktail but this is obviously what the customers want as the menu has stayed the same for years. The food is amazing and such good value. Even the children can choose a 3 course meal and they only charged £10! Traditional home cooked food. Huge Portions.

Lovely little place, with gorgeous views of the fells. Breakfast was very nice, made with good quality, local produce. There’s an assortment of cakes and treats to take home, most of which reminded me of things my Grandma used to make. Craggs does not accept card payment which caught me off guard, luckily my friend had cash on her or we’d be scuppered.

Stopped off during a wet Tuesday in August. So 50% off. Waitress found us a table straight away. We ordered 3 panninis and 1 toasties all came with salad garnish and home made coleslaw they were cooked fresh and tasted great with plenty of filling. The ham was proper gammon and plenty of cheese. We then all ordered from the massive selection of home made desserts. Two cream scones, fresh fruit tart and an ice cream. All fresh and filling.Would definitely visit again if in the area and sit outside to appreciate the fantastic view. Menu qss reasonable price without the discount.

Visited for lunch during Eat out to help out so was great value. Never seen the car park that full and the restaurant was very busy with older customers. The service was ok except for one young waitress who clearly didn’t want to be there, very dismissive and rude. She needs some customer service training or customers won’t return. There were loads of flies in the restaurant but the insectocutor was switched off; strange? The food was average, frozen, not fresh, but the fries are good! Would probably try it again when much quieter

We felt unsafe on our visit as the tables very close together, it did not appear that any tables had been removed to comply with Social Distancing and the Restaurant was full to capacity. The food was good as usual, but staff need more training on Covid precautions, but to be fair to them they were very few of them to deal with the full restaurant.

My husband and I rarely go to a cafe or restaurant. (We are difficult people to satisfy let alone impress, we cook ourselves and always use top quality ingredients, which is rare in restaurants) however on this particular day we called in.There were a few tables already occupied but still plenty of choice and space to sit privately. The room was lovely, spacious and light, lots of windows to appreciate the amazing view. We were made welcome and considering we only ‘popped in for a cuppa’ we had a really wholesome meal, perfectly cooked, presented, top quality.Very good food. I had a real struggle to eat the fresh cream slice afterwards, because I was so full, but it is years since I can remember eating anything so perfect, flaky, melt in your mouth, pastry. Freshly made that day. Nothing any trouble to them.

5 of us popped in after paragliding nearby. Easy to get spoiled here in the lakes, your expectations quickly rise.High prices, gluten free, vegan, locally sources, homemade, peace cakes with a pound going to mountain rescue are all par for the course in keswick, Ambleside and Grasmere. And i love all that, but a good honest cafe, great value, friendly staff, beautiful homemade cakes and generous portions will win out for me every time. Its not in a town or attached to an attraction and it was still full. Im taking my partner back today for lunch

I had lunch there today (Sunday 7/10/18) and was impressed by the large number of locals who were there. I take that as a very good sign and the meal presented did not disappoint. Cheerful, efficient and attentive staff with good plain food nicely served. It was busy but no one appeared to have to wait. The roast beef served with two light and fluffy Yorkshires and with side veg and sauces......excellent. The meringue of the pavlova looked magnificent and if I was to be picky would say it tasted a little “floury”.

We've been to Craggs several times over the years but hadn't been for a while until hubby decided he would like his Father's Day lunch there. Simply cannot fault this place, it's in a beautiful location - surrounded by the most impressive scenery. The staff are great and the food ... wow ... delicious home made grub that takes some beating. As it was Sunday, we had the Sunday Lunch menu and the value (£18.00) for three courses was simply fantastic. I can't believe we've left it so long before returning - especially when it's almost on our doorstep! The normal menu has loads of choice and is all reasonably priced. It's an absolute 'must' when you're out this way. Only downside, the chairs aren't terribly comfortable and we kept sliding down them. Only a minor point though because everything else outweighs this slight criticism.

Third time lucky I thought, but then my car broke down on the way there! Luckily we did manage to get there in the end on the third attempt after my car had been taken to a local garage. I thought I was never going to get to come to Craggs! The café is very spacious and there is parking available. There is loads of choice on the menu and most of it seems to be home made. Called in here for lunch on a recent Sunday, first observation was that car park was packed and some less than thoughtful customers had parked very dangerously on either side of road and grass verge, very concerned that this is an accident waiting to happen. On entering cafe area we were asked if we wanted lunch, well at 1pm yes! We were asked if we had booked we replied no, we were then told by a second lady employee in a rather negative tone that they weren't doing general lunches only Sunday lunches I.e. Roast dinners and none of there normal menu was available, turned and left she made us feel like we had interrupted and asked for something completely alien! Sad to be greeted this way when we had heard otherwise good reports.

Most of my favourites are there and delicious - key lime pie, trifle, lemon meringue pie, exquisite cream cakes. The cream teas are excellent and feature a selection of the above-enthused-about cream cakes. The vegetable soup is just how I like it - lots of flavour but not pureed into unrecognisability - there are actually pieces of veg in it.There are also home-made cakes and biscuits for sale at a reasonable price - the cakes can be bought as half-cakes - a good thing in my case as I'll eat the whole thing in one go once opened. The staff are efficient and friendly too - what more could you want?Oh yes, and the view out of the window is lovely too...

This is a little gem, that is just off the beaten track for the main tourist areas in the Lakes. If you're in the area it is well worth a visit. It's on the main road from Keswick to Bothel and is about 4 miles beyond Castle Inn. From the outside it looks like a small roadside café; but take the adventure and step inside. It is very clean and has a large seating area in the rear overlooking the fells beyond. The food is all freshly home cooked, and whilst the menu isn't large it offers great value for money. Fish goujoins, Cumberland sausage, roast meat meals all at £7.95 and a good portion size. Great choice of sandwiches, jacket potatoes and a massive range of cakes. They are licensed so sell a good house wine at £11.50 a bottle. It seems to be well used by locals which is always a good sign. We'll be back again, when we're next up there.Tip to owner - please put out a board on the road front saying you do hot meals, it's not clear from your current sign!

There were six (6) starters, three (3) mains consisting of Beef, Turkey and Gammon, and twelve (12) sweets. The place was full and a gentleman I assumed to be one of the owners served us, he delightful and made us feel very welcome. There was the minimum of delay between courses and more than enough for two good eaters, my turkey was melt in the mouth and my wife said the same about her beef, and she got two Yorkshire puddings, we only had melon for starters but it was a quarter of a melon, and for sweet we had a Toblerone Pavlova and a peach and raspberry pavlova they were to die for. I went to pay the bill and was told it was £32.00 I said there must be tea and coffee to add on and was told that tea and coffee were inclusive. I was so impressed I have decided to take my whole family there for Fathers day on 16th June.My understanding is that on normal days they have a more open menu, if that is as good as the fixed menu it will be very difficult to beat.Service was excellent, all the waiters were polite and welcoming especially the gentleman I assumed to be an owner, It was a priveledge to visit and we will return many times. The environment where the restaurant is located overlooks the Skiddaw mountains and many other local fells, the cafe appears to be a converted type barn and is very clean, open and extremely pleasant, cleanliness being its No 1 consideratiion. A fantastic luncg time, thanks Craggs.

Lovely big, clean room and facilities, with unusual outdoor seating and views over upland farmland. Coffee and cakes are excellent. It's on the route from Carlisle to Keswick (or a 400yrd detour if you're going to Cockermouth from Carlisle) and it's a shame it isn't better known. Children are welcomed and catered for.

As other reviews have stated, if you're not local don't expect any kind of welcome, let alone a warm one! Today was our third & final visit to The Craggs. Never have I been served with such a lack of enthusiasm & courtesy; we really felt like we were inconveniencing the waitress with our custom. (Actually, that's not strictly true as this waitress had the same lack of enthusiasm & courtesy last time we visited, but we put it down to her 'just having a bad day') It was very noticable how her manner completely changed when two other groups of people, that she clearly knew walked in, & she suddenly became all smiles & chatty. The food was average; watery, tasteless soup; greasy bacon/eggs - but nice chips. After finishing our meal we waited for approximately 20 mins for the waitress to return to clear our plates & to see if there was anything else we wanted. She made no effort to do so when she had some spare time & so we decided to forego the sweets, pay & leave. This place has so much potential but if more people vote like me & my family, i.e.. with their feet, they could soon start to feel the effect.**On our first visit we were served by a very young lady, who I suspect is the owners daughter. She was everything you could possibly want in a waitress; pleasant, polite & attentive..........maybe todays waitress should take a few lessons from her!

The food is excellent. We have been several times. Sunday lunch is delicious and all home cooked. Great value. Homemade cakes to take away are too tempting! Great to see waitresses almost running around to make sure service is tops - unusual in the UK unfortunately!!

Have driven past this place so many times without stopping, so for once we decided we should try it out. Walked in and although the waitress looked at us, didn't try and guide us to what to do, so we asked - do we just grab a table? Yes, she said. So we did.On the table was a wine menu and a hot/cold drinks menu. No food menu, although there was vinegar and sauce sachets, so we presumed they did hot food.We went up to the counter to order and it just seemed to be a variety of (very nice looking) home-made cakes. There didn't seem to be a food menu anywhere, so we just ordered a scone (best option as hubby is diabetic) and a hot drink each. The teapot was almost dropped on the table, with no smile or acknowledgement, and when the scone arrived it was just left on the end of the table at a seat no one was sitting at.Scone was fine, coffee was good, tea was good.We went to pay and noticed beside the till, on the floor was a chalkboard with the hot meals on (seemed to be just roast dinners, 3 courses for £16, but it was a Sunday) This couldn't be seen from entering the Cafe, just later when paying. We wouldn't have wanted a full 3 course dinner anyway, but a toasty or soup might have been nice.Fabulous views though, but don't think we will bother going back.

Good basic, honest food, the majority of which is homemade. My beef was tender and flavourful, the turkey was moist and tasty, delicious homemade yorkshires, basic vegetables and everything was hot.The staff are efficient,no room for dessert, but they are homemade and look delicious.

At time of writing there is one excellent review of this venue and one poor one- i am very much in the former camp after a wonderful visit last week. The menu is fairly limited but they do wonderful all day breakfasts and cream teas and seem to specialise in homemade cakes-The vanilla slice was probably the best ever! The place is spotlessly clean and the views are beautiful. Take a window seat and you will overlook fields full of sheep- A real country feel. Another reviewer is fairly negative about the staff and i have to admit that i would have given a 5/5 but for the rather unenthusiastic welcome. When some locals popped in the staff were all over them whereas we got the minimum , but polite all the same, attention. Do not let me put you off. Pop in for some wonderful views, some good food and the best vanilla slice ever!

Hadn't stopped here for a while but I quickly remembered why not. The menu is uninspiring. Almost everything is with peas, chips and gravy. It's only one step up from a greasy spoon which is disappointing as not only is it on a busy road (A591) but there is lots of holiday accommodation close by. It's a missed opportunity. You'll get a friendly welcome if you're a local. Otherwise, even if you're a regular, expect to be served with complete disinterest. I won't be back. We only came here because there was a queue at Moota. The Craggs was practically empty. No prizes for guessing why.

The Craggs Coffee House is situated on the A591 which runs between Keswick and the A595 to Carlisle. It is about a 20 min scenic drive from Keswick past Bassenthwaite Lake. It serves food until about 5pm. All of the food is home-cooked by the proprietor who also bakes all her own cakes and pastries. These are available to take away at a very reasonable price. We called in for lunch. My husband had Cumberland sausage, chips and vegetables and I had a lovely home-made cheese and broccoli quiche with salad. We followed with lemon meringue pie and coffee and walnut cake. Add to that two coffees and a bill under twenty pounds. There were some lovely photographs for sale on the walls which were also extremely reasonable. Will definitely return near Christmas to buy some presents.I understand that it gets very busy on a Sunday lunch time and booking is essential.

Perfect stop for a coffee break - the view over the lake with bird feeders in front was great. The chairs in the lounge were very comfortable - best decaf coffee I have had. Looked at the menu and it was a shame that only a coffee stop. Did have a taste of the local beers!!

Walked from Keswick centre to Nichol End Marina. A lovely walk but was glad when I arrived at the marina cafe. Roger (jolly Roger) welcomed me in and was so helpful and friendly. It was quiet as the season is coming to an end. I had an oat milk coffee and a raisin sticky toffee scone. It was so big! Put half in a bag to take home. Plenty of choice of scones all fresh and looking delicious. Prices were so reasonable. Roger then gave me a ride in his boat across Derwent Water. He’s such a nice man. It made my day to find a gem of a place. Would def recommend if in the area. Will return and try out the boating/canoeing etc next year.

The best dog friendly cafe in the lakes. Gorgeous food and the warmest welcome. This is our go to place when walking in the north lakes. All of the food always hits the spot but the cakes are just gorgeous!
