We had arrived in the Lakes to find our original accommodation (Embleton Spa Hotel) had cancelled our room for the 3 nights I'd paid for. Unexplainable...Having stayed 1 night by luck!!! we decided to move on and found this farm deep in the countryside behind Portiscale. Sara was very accommodating, she gave us the family room, big bed, great views over the valley. Fabulous brekky, Ramsey blackpud was delish as was the Cumberland sausages. With walks right left and centre and great weather the break turned out to be fabulous. Its well tucked away if you want seclusion and peace and quiet. that's what suited us after the mess on the Monday. Thanks to Littletown Farm. xx

Fab views of spectacular fells from tables in garden and farmyard. Lovely staff. Cream tea very good as are cakes and a choice of teas. Also sandwiches and a few hot dishes. Terrific way to end a day walking or just sightseeing in the quieter part of the spectacular newlands valley. Or perfect mid stop on a walk.

A great location off the beaten tourist track. Run by a delightful couple whose warmth and welcome was greatly appreciated/valued. The Guest House was well furnished retaining a traditional feel with a modern twist. The lounge area offered a place to sit in front of the fire and talk, whilst our bedroom was comfortable and recently refurbished. Breakfast was excellent with a selection of cereal and fruit accompanied a cooked breakfast option. Highly recommended and we will return again next year to appreciate the location and surrounding walks; unfortunately rain stopped play for us on this occasion.

I've been here twice and each time we have been lucky enough to be able to enjoy evening sunshine in the garden. There is a good play area for children with a large trampoline and the views across to Causey Pike are stunning. Home baked food is excellent and service from Sarah and her husband is friendly. A bonus is the ability to have a pint of local ale with one's tea. I can recommend the hot chocolate if you are the driver. Much recommended.

After walking for 6 hours or so, my wife and I were tired and needed some refreshments. We came upon Littletown Farm purely by chance, but we were so lucky. The girl who served us was polite, efficient and friendly. The scones, tiffin and tea were all first rate and the smell of baking scones wafting out from the kitchen confirmed that these were homemade and fresh. The view was lovely too which added to the atmosphere. We will definitely be back and I would not hesitate to recommend the place to others.

We walked here after a walk around Cat Bells with our dog. We asked politely if the dog was allowed in, the young girl barely glanced at us and said "in the slate area only I'm afraid ". The slate floor area had one table only that was filled already. The rest of the room was completely empty of customers. Therefore nowhere for us to sit and have lunch. This is very strange in this day and age, we moved on, there are loads of places that welcome us and our little dog so we won't bother trying there again.

I'm not sure what they are trying to be? Had a very quick cuppa with a great apple and almond cake. But other than for drinks, there didn't seam to be any obvious menu. The cake and tea were very good. Other trip advisor comments about service seamed to be unfounded as it was extremely busy and I was served at my table outside within minutes. Keswick half marathon was on. Would really like to know what else they serve up after having the cake. Pop some menus on your website and I for one may be back.

Went on a lovely walk from Keswick into the Newlands valley via Littletown with our mild mannered dog Gizmo. We'd decided to call at the Littletown farm tea room as we'd read some good reviews. On arrival we walked to the tearoom, which is situated in the farmyard, much to our dissapointment it was closed but as we turned to leave 2 dogs ran across the yard and attacked our dog. I'd read about these two 'cute' dogs in other reviews but they were anything other than cute on this occasion. The terrier grabbed his throat and the Jack Russell grab his hind leg, neither would let go and it took a lot of hard work on my behalf to get them to do so. They eventually stopped their attack when the owner whistled them. The owner offered no appology or asked if our dog was OK and when I suggested he should keep them locked up he verbally abused us remonstrating that it is private land. Yes it is private land but it is also advertised as a public tea room you muppet ! Luckily for him Gizmo suffered nothing more than a few teeth marks and bruises. So, my advice to anyone walking in Newlands valley with their dog...STAY WELL CLEAR OF LITTLETOWN FARM ! Unless your willing to put up with a potentially large vet's bill.

I would have said Swallows and Amazons, the only thing the Swinside valley lacks is a lake but its natural breathtaking beauty makes op for the lack of one. Located on a walk at the foot of Catbells, we discovered that Littletown Farm tearoom is far more than that as we noticed their board said licensed. We parked in the farmyard and sat in the walled garden and admired the breathtaking view. The swallows and house martins flitted overhead and we watched a pair of pied wagtails bringing food to their chicks. There was no sign of Mrs Tiggywinkle on that day, who according to Beatrix Potter brought her washing across the fields but there is a subtle homage to her in the form of a stone hedgehog in the garden. There is a proper restaurant inside but they need notice for a restaurant type meal as it is a working farm and they also provide B&B. The farmer was busy lambing in the barn and there were chickens running about but not where we ate. They do serve light meals though. We had sandwiches and I liked the offer of various chutneys. I chose a Snecklifter (beer) based one which was delicious to compliment the ham. The man serving, Rob, is very genial hailing from Scotland, and welcoming and the aromas from the kitchen gave us an appetite.Although we sat outside, I did like was the layout of the restaurant inside which would come in to its own in the evening and the views from it, the little corner bar with 4 beers on tap. The local one I had was very good and my partner had the Czech lager served in proper glasses. Their tempting cakes were laid out under glass domes and they managed to tempt us with the. With a cafétiére coffee to follow, the price was also very reasonable. We enjoyed it so much we went again.

Thought we would give this place a try as we saw it when coming back from Lodore Falls a few weeks ago and thought location was good. Booked Sunday lunch for 2 adults and 2 teenagers as a pre-Christmas family lunch out. On arrival no one greeted us and we waited in line at the bar to be told, not shown to, which one our table was and to come back to the bar to order. This is fine but at hotel restaurant I would expect staff to come and take our order - main course Sunday lunch £24.95, burgers the kids had £21.95 so not cheap. Inn on the Lake Glenridding for example is less expensive and far superior in location, class, service and food quality. I ordered roast beef and when it arrived I actually got lamb - no problem mistakes happen - but it did mean i had to wait for it to be replaced whilst the rest of my family ate their meals. When beef arrived it was dried out, as if heated under a grill. No one checked on us during the meal but asked if everything was ok when they came to clear. I told them my beef wasn't great - half of it uneaten - and they said i should have told them and they would have replaced. Fine, but bearing in mind i had already waited for it to be replaced once and eaten after others had finished i didn't really want to go for round 3. My meal was removed from the bill but the experience for a family lunch out was spoilt. We were in the restaurant area that doesn't allow dogs but close to the open doors to the dog friendly area - I love dogs but the smell coming through wasn't pleasant from time to time, especially when eating. Generally i think it is expensive and disappointing for what it is, pub type service and food at restaurant prices. £9.50 for puddings for example is excessive for the environment. A shame as location is great to stop for lunch if walking around Derwentwater but I wouldn't recommend based on pour experience today. As a final comment the staff did seem genuinely apologetic.

I visited Oilys with family and just after the meals were served my brother had taken ill. One member of staff in particular was so helpful and attentive. Part way through the meal we had to leave to take my brother home and the same lady offered to box up all our meals for us as we had only started. Excellent service. The meals were delicious and it is just a shame we had to leave early. Luckily my brother is okay and we will have to go back sometime for a better experience.
